Here’s what consumers have asked with answers from SaveOurBones staff and previous consumers.
This is the one I take. I use it for half of my intake. I used others over the years and kept switching because I was desperate to slow my bone density loss. I did a kitchen counter test one time of 3 different calciums. From then on I've Garden of Life product because it dissolved way faster in the vinegar/water solution than the other two products.(One of the calciums I tested was a calcium citrate and it took quite a while.) I cannot claim that slowing of my bone density loss was due to the change as I changed other things at the same time. I take a high-calcium yogurt (400 mg/8oz) for the balance of my calcium. Pretty good with 1/2 a banana and some walnunts.
I would recommend getting these things: Recommended amounts of calcium, Vitamin D3, and some magnesium if needed for the calcium. Do weight-bearing and/or resistance exercise regularly. Get regular DXA scans to track your bone density. If it takes a dramatic drop, or steadily heads down over time, or if you experience an osteoporotic fracture (low-impact fracture) seriously discuss with a doctor knowledgeable about treating you and your osteoporosis.
I tried to get a refund on the book/program which I paid $70 for but after calling a few numbers listed on the website for customer service each person that answered said they had no information about returning the book. They gave me another number to call which was the better customer service number. I called the second number given to me and the person who answered said they were not customer service and told me to call the original number. When I called back to the original number I was told there really was not any customer service; only people handling new sales. I asked to speak to Vivian Goldschmidt (the founder of the company) and they did not know who she was. Needless to say I could not get the book refunded even though they claim a full return of money spent if unhappy with the procuct. I am definitely unhappy with the product.
I bought my book used a few years ago.So glad I didn't pay full price. The book in no way way justifies the price for me. The print is incredibly large. Text is short on content. Slap dash job. Page numbering restarts after each section. Maybe they don't want you to know overall page number. Long bibliography but no footnotes making it a HUGE task to try to find the basis for the dramatic claims. Seems to me like a lotta' fluff to try to justify the price.
You essentially stayed flat, a good thing with osteoporosis. If you're really resistant to starting on meds, you could watch for your next scan (hopefully after a year.) Then you'd have a third data point that could give a much better idea of what path you're on. On the other hand, if you started treatment, you'd be one year down the road to knowing how your bones respond to the meds. Tough calls with osteoporosis.
Bisphosphonates have a good track record for reducing risk of fractures. Data shows that the side effect risk they pose is far outweighed for most osteo patients by the benefit of taking them. Side effect risk is very low for most patients. Depending on your bone density status and history, most people are far more likely to be affected by a fracture if left untreated than they are one of the side effects if treated. It's always the patient's call. It's wise to make that decision with the most reliable date and the guidance of an informed doctor who treats a significant number (important point) of osteo patients. It would help if merchants with a product to sell and news media would take the time to understand the science behind osteo treatment. Good luck to you!
