on 5/20/15Once you are in their system and they have your credit card, it is difficult to remedy the situation; their site has no address, no email, no phone, you are at the mercy of scammers. They are overwhelmed by business and have no customer service.
No and they never tell you there may be a "surge" charge.
They say they do, but they don't. In our case we agreed to around $55 for the ride- which was crazy but it was Halloween so we said what the heck. Then when we arrived, the fee was around $160- even the driver was laughing- he was like, it HAS to be a mistake- they will totally reimburse you- it's now May and we've never even gotten thru to uber or received any correspondence to them. This is the case with 99% of people who try to contact this thieving, faceless corporation. Shame on you uber. You suck!
Sometimes they do notify you, but I wasn't notified in any way. I requested an uber and I received text saying the driver was on her way. She (the driver) was surprised by our ride total and said that she was going to contact them about the issue, but they refused to believe us and anyone else who had the same issue as I did. I never typed in the rate to agree to the "surge" rate. I think it's because they have faulty servers. I wouldn't risk it, because a $20 cab ride could end up costing you anywhere from $150-300, which they will fight tooth and nail to keep. Not worth the risk if you ask me. I had to file a claim with my bank and it didn't get resolved until several months after I filed it. I ended up winning the claim, so it goes to show you that they weren't in the right to begin with.
