Sinister Poetry Site
October 28, 2015

There is an evil website called allpoetry.com
It promotes homosexual poets. It encourages explicit homosexual poetry. It is sickening.
It also encourages demon worship, occult practices, pornography and other perversions.

It claims to be a site for poets to exhibit their works.
But in reality it is promoted by those who hate God.
It has moderators who are against Christ.
These moderators keep a watch on the members of their site to see if anyone
Is 'rocking the boat' (or causing what they call 'civil unrest' in the 'community').

The problem is that sincere Christians who happen to join that 'community' cannot
Help but protest at the evil that is going on there.
There are, of course, other 'christians' who are so stupid and shallow as
To close their eyes to the perversions practiced on that site.
But if you happen to protest, then you are banned.

No Christian worth his or her salt should be on that site.
There are other poetry sites you can wish to join, but never All Poetry.
It is one of the most evil, devilish sites on the Internet.

Any Christian found on that site is under a curse from God.
This is my sincere warning to Christians to spread the word
That they should stop associating with websites that promote evil and
Perversions such as homosexuality, pornography and demon worship.

[Note: Mr Kevin, from his response will show you that he is totally anti-Christian. He says he supports all types of sexual orientations; I suppose that includes bestiality, scatology, child molestation and other types of 'sexual orientations'. This evil Fagin presides over a truly demonic site. I warn Christians again: Beware of AllPoetry! It is one of the most evil sites on the Internet!]

We welcome poets of all types, faiths, and sexual orientations. I think this review is a pretty clear example of hate speech, and religious intolerance is one thing we do not support. Religion should never be about hating other people.

We do have a lot of christian poets on the site that are quite happy with us :)

This is one of the finest sites for racial/homophobic/plagiaristic/sadistic/bored-gaslighting trolls to hangout and tune their poetic crafts. Or maybe that's just the people who run the site?
Genuine members (who dont pay) are very quickly disposed of by means of cruel gaslighting/catfishing techniques that run rampant throughout.
Very creepy DMs are sent to you, and then are quickly deleted never to be seen again. Only site officials have those abilities to interfere with your personal profile? And any complaint (report/ticket) made to guides, or to Kevin, will only lead you on a path of eyerolling ridiculousness.
The syrupy niceties that Kevin (the owner) disgorges are about as fake as AnnD's willingness to help. The double standards are ironic. So is Kevin's insistence that plagiarism doesn't take place on his site. Liar liar pants on fire.

This is not a poetry site - This is a slum-factory that preys on its members in a multitude of creepy undertones. It should be called Bait & Switch, or something of that nature. CREEPY site.

Beware the smiling cats.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience :( 1) We offer the same great support to both paid and free members. 2) Harassment isn't allowed, please add a ticket if you need moderators to take a look (gear icon in the top right -> contact us). If someone is harassing you it is not ok to harass them back. 3) Messages can't be deleted once sent, though are hidden if you ignore that user. 4) Plagiarism is very rare and we take it very seriously, add a ticket if you see something please.

I've been a member of the site since June 2004. Yes, there have been some issues overtime, some dealing with upgrades, but if you submit a ticket properly, the moderators and/or the site owner fixes the problem. Yes, there are some "wannabes" and "bashers" on there who enjoy causing trouble and who have nothing to offer but drama. There are also a great many VERY talented people who are there to share their poetry and interact in a positive manner. I've found that in most situations, you get what you give. I've never been "ripped off", but I did have a problem with a stalker that just wouldn't behave himself in a decent manner and ultimately, he was banned. I'd say most of the negative remarks came from people who didn't venture beyond their own circle of friends. I have told a lot of people about the site over the years. If you are serious about improving your writing and enjoying the creations of many other talented people, this is still the best website for doing so. There's been a lot more emphasis lately on being a poetic community and a social site, but no one forces you to participate. I have a lengthy list of very good writers that I constantly refer new members to, as they are the people I read the most for my own inspiration. They are all REAL people with a lot to offer, but yes, just like every other site, there are a few bad apples. The site has an "ignore" feature that keeps troublemakers off of your pages. I met my husband through this site - although he is no longer active on AP, we both post on Blogspot and have other venues in which to share our creativity with others. As the saying goes, you can't please all of the people all of the time - yet this site is not the big, bad wolf that some have insinuated with their remarks. If you are a negative person, you're guaranteed to have nothing but negative experiences no matter where you go.

I've been a member of StoryWrite/AllPoetry for going on ten years in a few months time. I started on this website in high school, while the chatterbox feature was always full and the social element of the site was easier to break into. Being easier to break into different circles, I was able to receive comments and feedback from a range of poets and writers. I would build friendships and my experience was really enjoyable.
I purchased a Lifetime Gold Membership, back when this feature was available and it wasn't a monthly subscription option. When the site updated a few years ago I lost that membership, after writing a message to Kevin it was swiftly corrected and I've never had an issue since then.

Now days the site feels quieter, the updates to the platform made socialising and connecting with other writers and poets harder. Making friends and securing an audience now feels impossible, since most of the old members I would talk to have left over the years. I still log in every day that I can, I lead a large collection of small groups that are used for collaborative world building exercises, however the members within these groups are personal friends from the good old days.

While I don't doubt that StoryWrite/AllPoetry is busy, and receives many visits from web traffic, considering I can monitor the views on my work I do know I get a lot of silent consumers and not many comments anymore. I do also feel alienated and would assume that new writers may find the site hard to navigate or connect with.

As for prices, my family purchased my membership as a gift for a birthday and I personally don't have to pay for it, however I do find that the cost is rather high for a gold membership, it's a little more than I pay for my Netflix account, and I feel the only change for the kind of account is the ability to use rich text editing and add photographs and start your own groups. However, I never got the free t-shirt that is part of the newer offer as I joined the membership program before the offer was available, it's a decent gift for the money, I just wish there were some other perks.

I'd love to see this site as big and busy as it once felt, I'm not going anywhere any time soon, but I do still like to reminisce.

Garbage
June 15, 2019

@Marty N. You actually used the word heroic to describe kevin? Dudes a $#*!ing creep. The whole thing is pay to post. The merchandise is crap. The whole thing is just twitter with poetry attempted as a twist. Way too easily accessed by predators whom use gold membership to curry favor with the "staff." Alot of bots. Also they have some "algorithm," for autoranking based on word usage that is actively destroying classic rhyming poetry in favor of kevins biasedly favored free verse poetry, as well as discouraging and destroyong creativity. The site to me is a free tool to post items i dont wish to lose, and i get around the pay to post pardigm by responding to comments i get on my posts. And yes I see plagiarism, alot of it. Have personally been harrassed by many online stalkers which the "staff" refuse to do anything about, and have been even harassed by the staff for not buying a membership. Am currently working on hamdwriting what poems I wish to keep and will be deleting my account here. $#*!s a joke. Tried to say this with 0 rating but 1 is minimal. -10 of 5

Phew, sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Twitter - We were actually around 7 years before they got started! Yes, there's a social element, and sometimes that can go awry. We appreciate people reporting any issues to our moderators. Our banning rules are shown on the help page. Plagiarism is very uncommon, please contact us if you see it as well.

Classic rhyming poetry - we do try to encourage people to write the kinds of "modern" poetry that get published in current poetry journals, but it's a pretty slight encouragement, we do welcome all types of poetry, and all types are definitely posted every day.

Again, sorry you had a bad experience & hope your poetry goes well wherever you may end up.

I have been a paying members for a few years. ("Lyptus")
Good:
- A well organized place to store and display your poetry, for others to visit. It links well to social media.
- There are a lot of very fine poets using the site. I feel I have learnt a lot from their writing. There is also beginners and lesser quality poetry; but folk have to start somewhere.
- There are a lot of volunteer leaders of help/learn/appreciate groups, often focusing on particular styles. I have benefitted from those as would any beginner poet.
- Like any site there are the occasional unpleasant person. But I have not encountered real nastiness or disrespect. On the contary many I meet are really nice people, like a lot of poets are.
- I could download all my work when I wanted to, having to wait a few days.
- It includes collections of all genres and past poets too.
Could be better:
- Reviewing is not to the fore (though there are arranged groups for more concentrated review by others) but I think the more you give the more you receive.
I am only an intermittent reviewer, as many are. I think Kevin does his best to encourage more reviewing. I'm not sure this is a fault of the site actually.

- Some find the "autorank" algorithm a bit simplistic, but it is a rough help to me, a point of departure of review of what you have done. I certainly don't think it is perfect (AI and poetry interface?) But when I use the autorank on my poems it roughly does get the quality ranking in order imo.
Summary:
I wrote this because I think some of the negativity listed about the site is over the top and not my expereince. It is a good site. It is not a professional poetry review level of place but I would recommend it for the above reasons.

Copyright breach
August 3, 2017

A couple of weeks ago I discovered that All Poetry had used without permission three of my translations (with Andrea Christofidou) from Karyotakis. I e-mailed them, and received a somewhat evasive reply from Kevin Watt. I responded by repeating my request that they be taken down, as they broke copyright law, but (rather overgenerously, as I now think) gave permission for them to use four translations that have already been published in journals. I received no reply to that, and I find that the translations are still there (one of the four for which I gave permission has a link under Karyotakis, but it points to a blank page, and claims to be "a poem by Amunet Wolfbane", "Written with peter j. King and andrea christofidou".

I've now sent another, less friendly, e-mail, giving seven days before I start the legal process; as one of my colleagues is a specialist in intellectual copyright law, this is easier (and cheaper) for me than for most people, who would probably not feel able to take things that far.

[The site did eventually take down the translations, I'm happy to report -- though the translation that I gave them permission to use still has no publication acknowledgement, as I'd asked.]

[Further up-date: The site owner has now replied, with a dishonest account of what happened (as my original review makes clear, I didn't wait only twenty-four hours between my complaint and writing the review), and without having noticed that I had indeed up-dated my review to acknowledge that the copyright violations had been taken down (albeit accompanied by further problems).

I'd strongly recommend against having anything to do with this site.]

One of the things allpoetry does is post classic poetry for modern poets to learn from. One of our volunteers added a poem that had been translated by Peter. Peter contacted us, and then less than 24 hours later added this review. We subsequently deleted and credited the posts as he had requested, though he has not responded to our requests to revise this review.

Cure Chiari was a lovely woman who, near the final time in her life, reposted many of William Blake's poetry asking for feedback and improvements as if it were her own. We tried to be very gentle in informing her that this wasn't allowed, but since she has passed away, some of her family has persistently attacked us arguing that the plagiarism was not true. It was 100% true, and there was absolutely no doubt involved - one example of a poem she reposted, word for word with a different title was "The Tyger": http://allpoetry.com/The-Tyger

I know she was just confused and didn't mean to plagiarize, but we still can't allow that to happen on our website, and so her poem had to be removed. I'm terribly sorry for the frustration this caused her and her family.

Did you perhaps reply to an automated email or message to try to cancel? You need to do it via the "edit" link on your profile page, then the billing tab there has a link to cancel. Or the "Contact us" link on the site works as well.

Sorry if there was any confusion :( I can assure you we've never billed someone after they have cancelled their membership. We also offer refunds to any renewals in the last 7 days if that applies to you, just click the cog at the top of the screen and choose the "contact us" link. Thanks.

Amazingly pernicious social media site disguised a poetry critiquing center. If taken seriously, it can be an informative tool for writing improvement, and a perfect window into the minds of some of the craziest A-holes on earth, which is valuable information to a writer so long as you don't buy into their crap. While the contests feel like they are more about popularity than quality, they can at least be a tool to gage what can work subjectively. The autorank algorithm is good for people who are incredibly bad at poetry because it convinces them they are losers, or turns them into lost rebels. It openly tells new users NOT to rhyme, which is horribly discouraging for all of the right monetary reasons: no ones gives a crap about rhyming, or anything musically vital to language because most readers are rhythmless, tone deaf simpletons anyway. If you are honest with yourself, you can commit to the chore of weeding through who understands what or who is actually professional and use them to your advantage, it's all valuable information to exploit.

It is an addictive nightmare for egotistical escapists and bipolar schizophrenics alike. Your pathetic life will collapse around you as you feebly try to keep up with comments, notifications, and contest results while obsessively improving writing styles, molding you into a resentful cynic who likes to flirt with black widows. You'll spend every other day taking mental dumps, whittling chunks of mental cow pie for hours to tediously craft amateur poems about revenge and suicide. You'll crave square's of toilet paper while drowning in this site's untreated sewage. Each of the million other user's fecal matter will burn like hydrochloric acid in your blood to the point where you are convinced mediocrity is in your DNA.

Allpoetry recklessly preys upon fools who think they have a good shot at writing good from the get-go, like Gertie the Dinosaur innocently swallowing trees with colonies of squirrels still trapped inside. It is a sadistic masterpiece of 21st Century social media, unmatched in the writing world. Would definitely recommend.

Curechiara posted several very famous old poems (such as by William Blake), claiming they were hers, and confirming in comments that she thought they were hers. She was warned twice for this, then banned permanently. We take plagiarism very seriously at allpoetry.
