This post is directed at all appraisals of THE ARK.
Look, qualitative evaluations of tv, film, music, never mind definitions of "Right" or "Left" are, as philosopher-Linguist Richard Rorty noted, inherently idiosyncratic…One man's Catholic heretic is another's devoted Papist.

Thus, it's worth noting the same applies to mediums previously noted. In terms of THE ARK, I apply the following grading standard—at least as far as "entertainment" is concerned:
—There's harmless entertaining "crap"
—There's marginally harmful entertaining "crap"
—There's very harmful entertaining "crap"
I frequently call a lot of tv and film "very harmful crap!" Now, crap can and frequently does "feel good". But smoked or inhaled "crap" also feels good, why else would we do it?. But that don't make it good for you, no?!
That said, lame and marginal crap is the Multinational Studio $#*! foisted on us like FAST AND FURIOUS 1,2,3,4,5 ad neauseum! But there is also dangerous sociopolitical crap like Michael Bey's sickening nationalist INDEPENDENCE DAY or that gross ARMAGEDDON,…Yes, America is the world's savior! SICK CRAP, but fun.

Students tell me I hate everything…NO! I read with 2 interpretive goggles:
—One set lets me view and enjoy without judgement.
—Another set allows me to see beyond pathos/pleasure and CRITIQUE what I VIEWED!

I loved PRETTY WOMAN and LOVE ACTUALLY….Both. Films are ideologically poisonous: The 1st elides real class and socioeconomic realities, and the other does the same, while deluding the audience about happy boy meets girl ending and American Exceptionalism. Never mind TOP GUN Cold War grossness.

But in the realm of mostly harmless crap, THE ARK at least gives us a bit of multiculturalism, mixed nationalities, with less nationalism and some pretty good plot twists and character development…NO. IT LACKS the SUPERIOR PHILOSOPHICAL REFLECTIONS of BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA, but there you go.
