I love my experience with Bike Direct. Great Prices and a lot choices. I would highly Recommend them to my friends, family and even enemies.:-) Great company.
Couldn't be happier so far. Bought a Motobecane Fly 9357 with 3x10 SRAM XO, as a race bike since the 3-year old Scott, even though rebuilt once is getting tired and heavy. We literally saved $2,000 over a similarly-equipped name-brand bike. LBS mechanics agree you could buy the bike, throw away the frame and still be ahead. Bike is very light, I am leery of the Vuelta wheelset, but will see if it holds up. Did have a failure, the 2011 XO front shifter failed internally. E-mailed Bikes Direct, Matt said I could send it to him or back to SRAM through a LBS. I chose to go through BD to keep the warranty thing alive, got brand new (of course) front and rear shifters in return so the colors would match, SRAM didn't have grey ones and sent me red instead. Couldn't be happier. This is the real deal if you can stand the glares from local bike shops. We will buy from them again.
This is my first purchase from BD, fast friendly prompt shipping. The bike is very well built at half the price of comparable bike. My son is looking at ordering a bike to. Thanks again.
This bikes have best quality and each and every part of the bike is of best quality. Also the prices are very reasonable. Glad i came across their site.
I have bought a bike for my niece here. She enjoys riding a bike to school every day. I want to thank the manager for qualified help and I am going to come back for another purchase for me.
I got two bike from them and they sent me two defective bike. The first bike the Patel was stripped the day it came and my second bike they cut the break line and the break was to big for the bike I contacted Larry the first day and this guy going to tell me to take the bike to the shop and get it fix I spent 1000 dollars online and I will never do it again just to let people no if you live in New Haven CT you can get your BMX bike from Tony bike's in Milford CT
I recently purchased a MOTOBECANE Le Champion Ti from BikesDirect. It is a fantastic bike. Great frame and great components. The customer support from LARRY has been fabulous. It is my third bike from BikesDirect and won't be my last.
I got the Night Train Bullet 2015. I basically pulled it out of the box, (packaged great by the way), and assembled it. Perfect out of the box aside from a tighten here and there. Headset was a tiny bit loose but nothing a hex wrench couldn't fix in about 30 seconds. Took less than a half hour to put together and tighten everything. Took longer to remove the packaging than it did to put it together, that being a good thing! Checked the tire pressure, and have been riding it ever since. Great top of the line parts and even a Bluto fork! This same bike in a shop near my house was $3500. Bikes direct was awesome and good with communication. Emails are answered within a day or two, most. I have heard from other riders about several bikes they sell and they were also very satisfied. If you don't mind assembly and doing your own maintenance you can't go wrong. Assembly is a piece of cake and you can always bring it to a shop for service if your uncomfortable doing your own. I got the same bike for $2000 less than my local shop. If you want to save a chunk of change go with Bikesdirect.com!
I BOUGHT AN XTR MOUNTAIN BIKE WITH A SID FORK FOR UNDER $1600 AND THE SAME BIKE WOULD HAVE COST OVER $4000 IN A BIKE SHOP.
REALLY A GREAT BIKE
PLUS FOR AN ONLINE SHOP THE SERVICE AT BIKES DIRECT WAS FANTASTIC - ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS, SHIPPED AT NCE, NEW BIKE IN FACTORY FRESH BOX
WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT?
I ordered a Windsor Clockwork Plus from bikes direct, it was delivered today 4/9/15 everything looked ok upon inspection (no damages) until I started the assembly process to find out the forks don't fit on the wheel screws, either the screw is to wide or the forks are to narrow it appears to be a factory defect, when I contacted them with the problem they quickly told me how to fix it, I just had to use a tool to open the fork drop out and it worked perfectly. Of course with some help from youtube here is the video on how to fix a pinched fork drop out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sTVng_JrQQ
Bike directs reimburse me $40 dollar for fixing the item myself. That was great!.
Now I am enjoying my bike, it is a great bike, thou I am worry for the wheels they are too thin and my city street are in bad shape.
A tip to Bikes Direct, add a page on your site and title it how to fix common problems on your bikes and look for youtube videos and attached the links. Customers will thank you a lot.
I am thinking in getting a cyclecross bike and for sure I will get it brom BD.
I own two Motobecane bikes. I got a stress crack on my Ti Fly frame and it took 6 months to fulfill the warranty for my frame. Would u go 6 months without your frame? Very upsetting.
Just purchased a Motobecane Mirage Pro bike from bikesdirect.com. It was received timely and was relatively easy to put together. However, with only 15 miles on the 2nd ride, a pedal came loose and stripped the crank. They disclaimed all warranties, made me pay for replacement of defective parts and further claimed that the pedals were not installed properly when that is probably the easiest thing to install. In short, DO NOT EVER BUY A MOTOBECANE AND DO NOT EVER BUY FROM BIKESDIRECT.COM. I would give them zero starts if I could. Be forwarned.
I checked all the above reviews before purchasing from Bikes Direct, so I thought it only fair that I share my experience. I just received the bike today and so far all is great.
I ordered the Motobecane Le Champion Ti with Ultegra. Very good price. Several hard core cycling friends confirmed it was a great deal. A few hours after ordering, I received a UPS shipping notification and confirmation email. The UPS notice provided a shipping estimate of 2 days, so I got pretty excited. However, I didn't read the Bikes Direct email closely enough and 2 days is when it would start shipping from the factory to me. My mistake, but just a heads up in case you do the same. That said, I ordered it on Wednesday and it arrived the following Tuesday. Well packed. All components exactly as spec'ed, so no issues there. No damage en route and easily assembled. Frame size is perfect. Assembly took about 20 mins.
Woud definitely order again and may buy a bike for my wife from Bikes Direct. A very good experience.
BikesDirect is the real deal.
I got the 2011 Motobecane Super Strada road bike.
SRAM Apex groupset, fast shipping--signature required due to high amount.
I must admit, all my bikes except the grand premimo I have purchased at bike shops
And I would have bought in a local shop except I wanted a high grade steel road bike
No shop stocks those anymore
Shops have lots of aluminum and carbon road: but you just can not find chrome-moly
I searched and there were a few available on the Internet
Bikesdirect had by far the best deal
In fact, price was so low that I almost did not order
But the Motobecabe online reviews are good
And the grand premimo pictures looked great
When I got the bike in I was blown away
Workmanship is really nice
In fact flawless
I paid $899 for a Reynolds framed bike with shimano 105
Most places an equal bike would be $2000
I am glad bikesdirect stocks high grade steel bikes
But the price and service was so good that next time I want any bike
I will at least check this BD out
Very similar experience to what others have reported: ordered a bike. The bike came in damaged (dents and peeled paint) but usable. Larry didn't apologize, just sent me $20 (severe cosmetic damage to a $2000 bike). Assembly instructions and the Shimano plastic tool to connect the e-bike controller were missing. Larry didn't apologize, just sent me a link to the main Shimano website. Crankshaft had defect (confirmed by professional bike techs at my shop) and needed replacement. Larry didn't apologize, just asserted that the pedals had been mounted incorrectly in the face of evidence presented by the bike techs. Parts were missing so it was not possible to assemble the kickstand. Larry didn't apologize, he just said to go out and buy some screws at a hardware shop (which wouldn't work anyway because the part was specific to the component and required custom ordering). Literally the worst web retail experience I've ever had and Larry didn't care. Nor did he agree to accept a return of the bike despite the website policy.
I bought a full suspension gravity mountain bike. All came as espected. I recommend gravity bikes to everyone who wants a good bike for a reasonable price.
I've been shopping for a new road bike for the better part of six months. Every time I go into a bike shop, they tell me to look online, figure out what I want, and they'll order it for me.
So at a friend's recommendation, I go to bikesdirect.com Lots to choose from, but not sure about the name brands on the frames. I do a bit of research, and find the bike I want. I go to order it, and they're sold out!
They tell me to check back in a month, and I do. This time they have it in stock in my size. I ordered it, and it arrived on Thursday of this week.
The bike was well packed, and in perfect condition, practically ready to ride. You do have to assemble it, but if you have ever assembled a bike from a factory shipment you won't have any problems. The wheels were trued perfectly, the bike went together easily. It may have taken me more time to unpack it than to assemble it. I took it to my local bike shop to have them do the once over on the drive train and make some minor adjustments. The guys in the bike shop were in utter shock when they saw the quality of the bike I had just purchased and how much I paid for it.
I rode it 20 miles on it's maiden voyage today, and I was thrilled with it. It is everything advertised on their site and then some.
Don't be fooled by bike shops who hot-mouth this business; the days of overpaying for a crappy bike are over thanks to bikesdirect.com
So online bike purchasing? Well after much consideration over fit, features and price I chose Bikesdirect.com.
Make sure you read the descriptions and are clear about what you want just like any purchase and you will be pleased. I was excited to receive my bike in such a quick timeframe and assembling was a breeze. I did get a double check/ tune up at the local shop but even they said it was not really needed. Have I made a few upgrades and tweaks? Well with the money I saved it was nothing to upgrade a few components solely for personal preference. I got the Motobecame Elite Trail in black. It rides smooth and fast perfect for my loop that is pavement and sandy hard pack trail. I do 6 miles a day to the gym and back and it is so light and responsive. I compared it to Trek and Specialized and found the price point was to good to pass up. I would swap out the SRAM components as I had not used them before and rather like the single paddle Shimano but it is smooth and easy to adjust. Saddle was nice. Wheel set has proven to be awesome although I am thinking of going full tubeless ( they are ready when I am) I still ride on the WTB Nano that was stock. Sun tour shock in front is ok I keep it locked mostly but with the remote super easy to engage. Will be swapping out for clipless pedals but so far very happy with the bike and Bikes Direct Team! Highly recommend!
I bought a 2017 Night Train fat bike from BikesDirect because the price couldn't be beat by any local bike shop while comparing similarly spec'd bikes. The process was straight-forward once I figured out how to proceed through the "check-out" to verify my bike was in-stock. The bike shipped and arrived at the house within 1 week via FedEx without damage. Assembly was easy and consisted of mounting the handlebars, front brake rotor, and my own pedals. I believe assembly could be done in 15-20 minutes if I had to do it again, but I had never assembled my own bike and wanted to be sure I did it correctly so it took me about an hour. The bike shifted crisply and braked great with no rubbing, right out of the box. The wheels were dead-straight true. I have since set them up tubeless with special stems and fluid I bought separately; I highly recommend this as it now allows me to ride off-road without fear of flats from the countless goat-heads that grow here.
Customer service was great. For some reason my bike was sent with a 65mm stem instead of the stated 110mm, which made the bike fit slightly smaller than I liked. My email to BikesDirect was answered the next day by Larry, who promptly sent out a brand-new stem for me to try. The bike fits great now and I couldn't be happier; the bike is a blast to ride and I love the 4.8" tires for their grip, cushion, and stability.
I was initially skeptical about buying a bicycle online, but from this experience I will likely be buying from BikesDirect again in the future.
Answer: I would recommend that you think about a hybrid bike first, as the tires are larger & the 26 inch wheels are a bit stronger. Also, you will be more comfortable riding on an upright position. If you like it, use it to loose weight while saving for a decent road bike.
Answer: Hi - the bike depends upon the type of riding you want to do and what you want out of riding. Do you want comfort? Durability? Speed? More upright riding position? Definitely want to look at bikes with larger tires as they would be more comfortable. The CycleCross type bikes are fast but have a bit larger tires for more durability and comfort than a skinny tire road bike. Check out the OmniStrada which have knobbier and larger tires than the regular cross bikes. They also have top tech tubeless compatible rims which you can easily convert with sealant and kit to being virtually flat free :) Check them out: http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/cross_bikes.htm
Answer: No. The bike should come ready to ride.
Answer: I ordered after hours on Wednesday night, recived confirmation of payment via PayPal instantly. Email receipt received Friday morning.
