My first one star review! (. I'm the type that'd figure out how to give a car crash at least2 stars)
February 16, 2020

BritBox subscriber for 3 months.

Generally, things have got to be pretty damn bad for me to say anything or give a bad review and even then I tend to focus on how the product or service could be improved and include what's been done right. I once gave a seller two stars even though I never managed to get what I ordered 2 months prior. I was charged twice for the wrong product and the right one never showed up but there was a a genuine attempt over at $#*!Show Inc. to right their wrongs and I appreciated that effort enough to still give them 2 stars.
That said, I can't find a single thing that BritBox is getting even remotely right. The UI is the opposite of intuitive, it's glitchy and looks pretty bad. Searching for titles is a pain in the $#*! and their library is limited. If you're lucky enough to find the program you got BritBox for in the first place, you find out that only certain seasons/series are available, as I found to be the case with "QI" and "Death In Paradise." So you settle for whatever you find and hit play. And then the real fun begins.
Down the software rabbit hole you go. The buffering complaints you read about in almost every review are very real. Either the program plays in what appears to be 240p if you're lucky, or the image on the screen bounces and flickers with a green bar at the bottom of the frame and many times you simply get the pinwheel loading graphic. Or at least I do on my tablet. I'd give up and watch it on my iPhone with the BritBox app but then the picture doesn't fit the screen right and only takes up 2/3 of the screen with giant black bars around all 4 corners, the effect reminds me of watching shows on my tiny old iPhone 5. You need a magnifying glass to make out who the actors are. Oh and if I'm using the app, the next episodes won't auto play and if I get a call/have to leave the app, whatever I was watching looses its place and starts over. That's on a good day. On a bad one, the app crashes take center stage.
For all intents and purposes, I feel BritBox is unusable and the onslaught of issues would make it intolerable for most people. I'd cancel my subscription but from what I've read, I'd need a prescription to deal with the brain damage that their customer service would inflict upon me, so I ignore the $5 a month I'm throwing away and occasionally attempt to use BritBox again with my fingers crossed.
