Chic site

Chic site. I spread all my work there. And even watch the work of other guys whose work is rarely seen.

Cyberbullying

This site is full of cyberbullies and grammar and name correcting jerks. This can lead to mental illness or suicide attempt. Do NOT go to Deviantart.

Being an almost 2 year user to this site, I have experienced good as well as bad things. If you are an artist looking for someone to crtigue your work, that parhaps you would enjoy this site.
However, if you intend on drawing fanart mostly (like I do) be careful. People are VERY opinionated on this site. There are people on this site called "trolls". They seem to have nothing better to do that make fun of fanartists who develop fancharaters. They love it apparently and can be very hurtful.
Secondly, if you want to report anything, anything at all... dont bother. The DeviantArt staff will just ignore you. I read a story that a user saw someone post un-cencored pictures of a girl's... you-know-what... and the user tried to report this. Nothing happened. The staff basically it wasn't a violation of their rules.

Aside from that, deviantart is just as full of kind folk. My advice is to think before you post and keep your head about you.

Poor Adopt Sellers
June 26, 2017

I entered a bid for two adopts under a 72 hour bid. Both were at the start of 400 points. I bid 400 points on one and 600 on the other. When the three days were up they told me I won both of the adopts. I sent in the points as promised (1000 points = $10)

About 7 to 8 hours later I drew and upload the first one I bought. Created them in my description. Along with stating my usual drawing estimated time. About 2 to 3 hours later. I get a message from the person that I had bought the adopt from stating "Please do not trace my work."

I replied that I drew it using the "Grid Drawing Method" and that the work wasn't "Traced." I even double checked my "Transactions page" to make sure that I had sent the points for both adopts. Which it said I sent 400 and 600 points to the user. Thinking that maybe they were accusing me of "Tracing" the work because I had maybe forgotten to pay for it.

They apologized but it still doesn't take away the fact that by accusing me of tracing the work. The person was basically accusing me of stealing something that I had rightfully paid for. Why would I pay ten dollars worth in points just to trace work that makes no sense to me. I would have been more understanding had the person at least explained in full detailed why they didn't want there work traced.

Results were highly informative they did not.

Stay away from this website these people think they can say whatever they want because there behind a computer screen. I even reported the person after providing my explanation and the staff did nothing about it.

Example of grid drawing method: https://www.art-is-fun.com/grid-method/

Just take my word for it avoid this site at all costs it will damage you within the first few weeks of being a member nothing but a cesspool of cyber criminals stupid people bad art bizarre and awful fetish work art thieves bullies / Trolls spam bots creeps and registered sex offenders. I'm not kidding about any of this and yet if you report any of these problems to the admins they will flat out ban you and take away your account the only way to never get banned on DA is to keep paying for the core membership gimmick which I advise you to not do as it serves no benefit to yourself.

You might get your work shown on the front page but thats about it starving artists don't get the luxury of getting there work noticed on this site unless you result in posting and spamming your art religiously every day or every night either way your art is not going to get noticed any time soon and if it does get noticed expect no feedback or criticism of the sort.

Instead you will find the common tons of random favorites and watches for no rhyme or reason and pointless llama badges and half of the people who watch you only watch you to get page views they don't give a crap about your art in fact I think only a handful of my DA watchers who watched me actually uploaded art the others just $#*! post and steal art work and memes from google images and call it day.

Joining the art groups used to be a option to get noticed but now your work either gets turned down because of other DA users posting there crappy ms paint doodles everywhere including your inbox or the art groups have just been abandoned completely or reject you for being a casual artist

Forget DA and open up your own site if you can or post your work on Instagram instead anything is better than deviant art.

HORRIBLE STAFF
July 1, 2016

Do NOT order art from this website! I ordered a canvas art piece, which would have been delivered to within 10 days but they put the wrong address. Although the address was the same as billing, which is the button I selected "Same as Billing" the payment went through just fine, but my art didn't. I was patient about it and waited like 3 weeks for it to be sent back to them and for them to contact me, or resend it but there was no activity period. They just didn't do anything after that. So I started filling out tickets which is apparently the only was to contact them, but never got a response. By this time, it had been over a month of no activity. My problem wasn't the wait time, I order stuff from China all the time and wait a month. My problem was that they just didn't do anything at all when the art wasn't delivered. Didn't email me, didn't call, didn't send me a message on their website, NOTHING. So I contacted the artist which was the only contact information I could find, but the artist isn't in charge of that. So finally I had to go through the Better Business Bureau to which I finally got a response that they had tried to get the shipping address multiple times. $#*!ing LIERS! Had they contacted me, I wouldn't have had to do all that extra! What is the point of having a "Same as Billing" button if you don't use it? They billed my card just fine, why couldn't they send me the art through the SAME ADDRESS. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! WILL NEVER ORDER AGAIN. The artist was great though... Hopefully she finds a better way to share her art.

For what exactly this site has 3 stars?! It doesn't deserve even one star and I'm going to explain you why! When justice group members steals art, are harassing and bullying, even defaming other people then it's so okay and acceptable, but when the same things does someone, who isn't justice group member, it's not okay, it's bad etc. Unfathomable hypocrisy rules there. Not to mention that people won't notice your art, you'll be invisible. Why?! Because the only thing people notice there is something like drama and gossip. Only decent community there is writers. Fanart community is the worst and the most toxic community I've seen. And you got it right! You'll be visible only if you'll participate in drama, of course if you will participate in "right" side. But seriously! I suggest you to stay away from this site! Only few nice people are left in this site. Majority are fakes, who will smile in your face and will be nice as long as you are useful to them, but once your usefulness will end they will stab you in back and throw you out of their friend's list. Be careful with who you are friends there, because most of them will stand with you in dark days only if it will be beneficial for them, other than that they will abandon you and will take bully's side. Admins doesn't do anything to stop bullying, they don't even check if report is legitimate. They simply ban people, specifically those, who didn't do anything wrong, while bullies aren't banned. Bullying on this site is gone so far that bullies are using other sites to defame other people. And shame on you Wix for acquiring this bully paradise, which should've been left to rot until it stops existing!

Wix took over in 2015. And that's when everything positive become the opposite. I wish I could give 0 stars because they don't deserve any at!

If you get bullied, the staff won't help you. If your art gets stolen, your DMCA reports gets ignored, if you get scammed, it's your own fault. If you contact the staff, you MAY be lucky if they answer you next month. Mostly they don't answer any ticket or you get a copy/paste answer that will never help.

I was harrassed and stalked and dA did absolutely nothing to help me. All my tickets were ignored. They simply said opinions are allowed to have.' Calling bullying opinions is already 1 thing but totally ignoring the facts what is truly playing on this site is another thing.

The unproffessional staff ignores the so many art theft on this site or any violating user in general. Deviantart is turning into another Photobucket or Imgur, raining screenshots, $#*!ty sonic art, so many pornography, disgusting fetish art and more. Criminals can do what they want here, they never get punished or banned. Even if users report them many times.

Some criminals are even protected by the staff. The biggest example is Art thief Nads6969. https://www.deviantart.com/nads6969 stole from 100 different artists, received over 50 reports and more then 6 DMCA reports and she's still active on dA. WHY does the staff not care? It's our money they only care for.

According to the rules, childporn and underaged nudity is against it and even against the law. DA does not care. They ban users that reported such images instead.

The only way to make them see is to bring them to court. It's truly sad to see such a good site going to hell. It deserves to be shut down forever.

Absolute $#*!hole.
May 17, 2022
Updated review

It has been 1 year since I last reviewed the site. It still is amazing me with how much worse it can get. I have opted to abandon my account long ago after dreamup came in.
I cannot trust the platform to host my content when it neglects to offer legitimate safeguards to my content as an artist. I even tested it with one of my pieces protected by their 'DeviantArt Protect' services with a buddy and it cannot even do the job of informing a user when their content is being stolen.
Logging in makes me see a cesspool of NSFW content, even though I set my account up to not show it, including blocking AI-generated content, but it does nothing.
I know it is a heavily beaten horse, but holy $#*!, why must all the NSFW content involve minors?! If you want examples, there's written accounts of these things in various other reviews for this website.

One horse I am surprised that has not received much of a beating however was the curation of the home feed. Let me sum it up for you: 20% people using DA as imgur, 20% NSFW, 25% poor-quality content, 10% ads, 15% stolen art, 5% good art, and 5% that bounces between everything else. The image host and poor-quality crowd also take up a decent chunk of the NSFW media crowd on here too btw.

In my previous review I mentioned that most content is paywalled, and yes, it still is. The AI tools want core (their subscription service), making money off your work requires core (Adopts, premium content, subscriptions, and I won't be surprised if they come for coms too.) Want stats? Too bad, the valuable stuff costs you some dough (and it also takes forever to check). Most of the profile customization requires Core, and it is far more limiting than the custom HTML of the old days.

Okay?

Previous review

Unlike a lot of the people here, I kinda have not used the site before the Eclipse beta, and have been using it since then, but here's the pros and cons with the site:
Pro - Art is quick and easy to look at.
Con - Specific kinds of art is a bit of a hassle, specifically with pixel art.
Con - Stolen art and poor memes make navigation a bit more difficult, as I have to block tons of people just to avoid it.
Pro - Art is quick and easy to upload.
Con - Features like delaying art and multi-uploads require a subscription to use, which makes no sense.
Con - Stats are difficult to look at and big ones are premium only.
Con - NSFW content is easier to find than SFW content, I am not even a legal adult yet and this stuff is just wrong, and sometimes this stuff is not even marked NSFW.
BIG Con - Mobile accessibility is worse than PC, the app can't load journals and sometimes has issues loading my pixel art, the mobile browser version also runs horribly, if I do not have a decent connection, my phone could crash from the app or browser.
