A Frustrating and Ineffective Platform: A 1-Star Review of Edgenuity
February 8, 2025

As a student who has used Edgenuity for both regular schoolwork and summer school, I can confidently say that my experience has been nothing short of terrible. If I could give this platform a 1-star rating, I would do it without hesitation. The issues with Edgenuity are numerous, ranging from its outdated design to its lack of engagement, poor technical performance, and lack of support. Whether you're using it for school or to catch up in summer school, it simply doesn't live up to its promises.

Outdated Design and Unpleasant User Interface

One of the first things you'll notice when you log into Edgenuity is how outdated it looks. The design feels like something from the mid-'90s, reminiscent of using Windows Media Player in 1995. The interface is clunky, hard to navigate, and incredibly user-unfriendly. It doesn't offer a smooth experience, and it often takes much longer than necessary to locate assignments or track progress. It's evident that the platform hasn't been updated or improved in years, and that's a serious problem in today's world of sleek, modern educational tools.

Technical Glitches: A Constant Source of Frustration

If you can manage to get past the outdated design, you're quickly confronted with another issue: technical glitches. Edgenuity's system is far from stable. Videos freeze, assignments fail to load, and the entire platform crashes unexpectedly. On multiple occasions, I've had to restart lessons just to get them to work properly. To make matters worse, the audio quality of the videos is often poor—distorted and difficult to hear, making it harder to focus and learn. These constant technical issues only add to the frustration, making it feel like Edgenuity is a system built to frustrate students rather than help them.

$#*!ty Grading System and Lack of Clarity

The grading system on Edgenuity is just as flawed as the platform itself. It feels arbitrary and unclear, making it hard to understand why certain answers are marked wrong. There's little feedback to help students understand where they went wrong or how to improve. Instead, you get generic comments that don't provide any useful guidance. This lack of clarity makes it feel like Edgenuity doesn't care about helping students learn from their mistakes—it's just about getting through assignments and moving on to the next task.

Unhelpful for School and Summer School Coursework

When it comes to using Edgenuity for both regular school and summer school work, the platform really falls short. It's particularly bad for students who need extra time to grasp concepts or who are trying to catch up on credits. The rigid, fast-paced structure doesn't allow for any flexibility, and the deadlines are often unreasonable. The system pushes students to finish tasks quickly, even when they don't fully understand the material. For summer school students, who are often trying to recover lost credits, Edgenuity offers very little support or personalization. Instead of offering a chance to truly understand and master content, the platform feels like a conveyor belt, moving students along without offering the help they need.

Lack of Engagement and Motivation

Another major flaw of Edgenuity is how disengaging it is. The lessons are dry, repetitive, and feel more like lectures than interactive learning experiences. There's no chance to actively participate or engage with the material. You're simply expected to watch videos and complete quizzes with no opportunity for discussion, questions, or feedback from peers or teachers. This lack of engagement makes it incredibly hard to stay motivated. It's easy to zone out during videos when you're not being actively involved in your learning, and the lack of interactive features leaves you feeling disconnected from the process.

Too Long, Boring Pages and Video Content

One of the most frustrating things about Edgenuity is how long and drawn-out the pages and videos are. Each lesson seems to go on forever, with pages of content that are overly lengthy and packed with boring, useless information. The videos themselves feel like they drag on for ages, with the same dry content being repeated in various forms, making it hard to stay engaged. It's not only hard to stay focused on the videos themselves, but when you're stuck watching these long, tedious lectures, it feels like time is being wasted. To make matters worse, these videos often don't even teach you anything helpful—they're just more filler content, making the entire process feel like a chore.

Too Many Pages, Too Much Information

Another major problem is the sheer number of pages and excessive information included in each lesson. It's like the platform thinks more is better, but in reality, it's overwhelming. You have to scroll through long blocks of text, and it's easy to get lost in the sea of content. This overload of pages and details not only makes the lesson harder to follow but also leads to fatigue. After reading through endless paragraphs, you're left exhausted and with little actual understanding of the material. Instead of simplifying and focusing on the core concepts, Edgenuity piles on unnecessary information that just adds to the confusion.

Riddled with Repetitive Quizzes and Pointless Tasks

To make matters worse, after slogging through these long, unengaging lessons, you're hit with endless quizzes and tasks that don't seem to add much value. The quizzes are repetitive and feel like they're only there to test your ability to recall information, rather than understand it. You go through the same material over and over again, answering the same questions in different forms. This process gets incredibly tedious, especially when you're not gaining anything meaningful from it. It's as if Edgenuity's entire goal is to make students click through content rather than encourage actual learning.

Rigid Structure and No Room for Flexibility

Edgenuity's structure is incredibly rigid, and it doesn't account for the fact that every student learns at a different pace. This is especially problematic for students in subjects like math or science, where concepts often build on each other. When you're given a set curriculum and forced to follow strict deadlines, there's no time to go back and revisit concepts you might be struggling with. There's no space to slow down and master a topic before moving on. This lack of flexibility can make it incredibly difficult for students who need more time or for those who learn in a non-traditional way.

No Personalization for Diverse Learning Styles

One of the biggest disappointments with Edgenuity is its lack of personalized learning. The platform uses a "one-size-fits-all" approach that simply doesn't work for every student. Some students need more hands-on, interactive learning methods, but Edgenuity doesn't offer that. It doesn't adapt to the learning styles or needs of individual students, which makes it a poor choice for those who need extra support or who learn better through more dynamic, hands-on experiences. Instead, you're stuck with the same dry, video-based format for every lesson, regardless of your learning preferences.

Unresponsive Customer Support

When issues arise, it's next to impossible to get real help from Edgenuity's customer support. The platform offers very little in terms of meaningful assistance, and getting a timely response is rare. When you do manage to get in touch with someone, the support you receive is often vague and unhelpful. There's no direct interaction with teachers or tutors to guide you through difficult concepts, which leaves you feeling stranded when you need help the most. For a platform that's supposed to help students succeed, Edgenuity falls drastically short in terms of providing support when things go wrong.

A Platform Built for Churning Through Students, Not Helping Them Learn

At the end of the day, Edgenuity doesn't seem to be focused on helping students learn; it feels like the platform is designed to move students through lessons as quickly as possible. There's no effort to foster deep understanding or mastery of concepts. It's just about completing assignments, passing tests, and moving on to the next task. This lack of focus on genuine learning and comprehension makes the whole experience feel shallow and unfulfilling. It's hard to feel motivated when it seems like the platform just wants you to finish the work without truly understanding it.

Conclusion: An Ineffective, Frustrating Platform

In conclusion, Edgenuity has been an absolute nightmare for me. Whether for regular schoolwork or summer school, the platform fails to deliver on its promises. Its outdated design, technical issues, unhelpful grading system, lack of engagement, and lack of personalized learning make it one of the worst educational tools I've ever used. If you're looking for a platform that offers meaningful learning experiences, personalized support, and the flexibility to work at your own pace, Edgenuity is not it. I would strongly advise looking for other options—this one is a 1-star platform that only adds frustration to your educational journey.

How to Change It: A Call for Improvement:

If Edgenuity hopes to become a truly helpful platform for students, they need to completely overhaul the way they operate. The system needs to be updated with a modern design that is intuitive and user-friendly. They should focus on reducing the number of pages and creating shorter, more engaging content that is easier to follow. Quizzes should be more meaningful, offering students the chance to actually understand the material rather than just memorize facts. The platform must be more flexible, allowing students to learn at their own pace and seek help when needed. Most importantly, Edgenuity needs to invest in better customer support and create a system that actually works for students, not against them.

Disappointing and unnecessarily time consuming.
February 7, 2025

Edgenuity is woefully disappointing. First of all, most of its content is outdated. For example, in my criminology class, they taught me about a 'current' program that was actually discontinued and replaced in 2019. Moreover, the order of the curriculum is absurd. In my algebra 2 class, they had me take an exponential equation quiz in which we had to use logarithms. The thing is, they didn't teach us about logarithms yet--we were actually supposed to learn about them 2 UNITS LATER. So, in the middle of my quiz, I had to study logarithms on Khan Academy (which is much better at teaching math). Why on Earth would you ask students questions about something they haven't learned yet? They often do this in my history class as well!

To add onto that, they give students an unreasonable amount of assignments to complete in merely one day. I don't have many good screenshots, but in the one I attached below they expected me to do a rough draft of an essay and the final draft in the same day. I've never had to do that in actual high school before, even when I was in Honors classes. Moreover, I had multiple unit tests on that same day. It's difficult to make time for my hobbies and commissions when they give me such a ridiculous workload.

Mind you, with the way Edgenuity is set up, you cannot progress until you finish the assignment or lesson you're currently on. So, you cannot see what's ahead of you, and thus can't prepare for it. This makes it very easy to fall behind.

Not only is the curriculum awful, but the grading as well since AI does most of it. I've gotten answers wrong just in a few journal assignments because I was missing ONE key word the AI searches for, even though it was still technically correct. I'd much prefer to have an actual teacher read my answers and grade them.

Also, some of the 'correct' answers provided on quizzes are just plain wrong--primarily the psychology quizzes. Multiple sources on the internet will give you a different answer than the supposedly correct one. It's a little hard to believe that Edgenuity is right when every other source says otherwise.

Lastly, the lessons are unnecessarily time consuming. I usually finish my notes twenty minutes before the lesson ends just by reading the transcript. Some of the teachers talk ridiculously slow and use redundant words. Sometimes it feels like they're being patronizing because they overexplain everything. How many damn times do I have to relearn how to write a summary? We've been learning about this since 3rd grade, I think we get it already!

They read everything out loud for you as if you're an illiterate 1st grader, and even if you get the answer right they still proceed to go on a monologue about how to get the answer. If they'd just shut up, the lesson could go 2x faster.

Most degrading horrid "learning" program ever (and this is coming from a parent)
November 4, 2024

My child who is in 6th grade (she's 11) had to use this for school this year instead of k12 and honestly it would have been better for her if I just made her drop out of school and let her do whatever she wants all year, and that may seem like a unrealistic statement but I'm being dead serious. First of all everything on this website is so outdated I'm guessing this site was made around 2000-2005 with how outdated 99% of the information they are teaching her is. Second of all the program is literally 1 hour-6 minute videos of random people who probably are not teachers talking in the most dead tone about about very unrelated information. Another thing is that my daughter does not have to watch the videos to answer any of the questions which is honestly very concerning because that means those extremely long videos that take up 60% of her day are not needed at all plus it means she's not actually learning anything. Oh and of course literally everything is graded by AI in a normal homeschool program the answers to quizzes would be programmed by humans but on Edgenuity after your kid does a quiz some random AI decides if your kids answers are wrong or not and this AI is genuinely so sh!tty cause it's gotten 6 questions correct her whole school year. Oh and let's not forget she gets assigned assignments that take about 4 hours - 2+days that are assigned on the same day they are due and these assignments take up at least 60% of your grade. Along with that kids are given about a weeks worth of work assigned in a single day in each class. And the whole reason why this program is so $#*!ty is because it's a cheap for profit organization that barely makes the standard education protocol and again this school program is used by most public schools because it's cheap because it doesn't teach your child anything. Since this program has no educational value I downloaded a bot that skips through all the videos and auto answers all the questions and my daughter has been watching educational videos one YouTube and I'm being generally serious she has learned so much more from these YouTube videos then this verified "educational" company. Overall parents please listen to your child if they say this program is not valuable to them and is extremely stressful because they aren't lying, and to be honest 1 star is a stretch this company deserves -1m and that's me being completely honest.

Tip for consumers:

This site honestly doesn’t deserve to just have bad reviews it deserves to be shut down.

Recommended to: NOONE! (Seriously i'd prefer detention to this bs)
February 4, 2022

(This review it written by a student being forced against will to use this program)
At this point, teachers are feeling like irresponsible parents. "Here, take this program and go ahead" They place a chromebook in front of you and expect you to do everything perfectly as this site wishes.

As someone who has ADHD and Autism, i have a short attention span with boring things, so school can be tough for me, but this program doesn't help at all! In fact- here's a list of cons, things that clash with my learning capabilities
- Engagement (Not engaging at all; easy to skip readings, videos boring, demonstrations not well thought out, assignments/instructions easy to misunderstand)
- Teaching (Teachers give you the program and basically do nothing all class except give you more retakes because the online teachers failed to teach you right)
- Optimism (It feels the most bare and dead learning program, it looks depressing and makes me feel nothing but negativity when I don't do things exactly as they wish, in fact it's a huge lack of optimism)
- Perfection (the program pratically implies you to get everything right the first time, usually you can pass with a 60% or even a 50% depending where you are, but no you have to get way higher than expected to pass anything)
- atmosphere (In a room where everyone uses this one program, everything is dead silent and almost feels like detention, but more like an actual jail, but if there was almost nothing to do but torture yourself internally)

Oh? What pros do I have for this? Well this program doesn't deserve any! I legit can't thing of any good reasons for this program to exist! Sure the teachers are licensed and seem to try their best... in my class half of the studetns (sometimes including me) either drift to sleep or do other things, because the program has a lack of engagement to the students, some teachers have the quietest and most boring voices and ways of teaching that we can't stay focused enough to be good enough for their quizzes.

Also, during summer school (My first time having summer school in high school) I wasn't instructed by the teachers and had no idea what to do, they just gave us a computer and expect us to know what to do, like giving a 3-year-old an ipad and telling them to do whatever they want. Another thing is that when I fail a quiz/test/exam i feel awful, it gives you a red percentage score, tells you to retake or request for more retakes. You can't use notes during the quiz, and you aren't supposed to ask for help. Multiple times in the summer school program I failed to the point it brought tears to my eyes, not from the strained eyes I had obtained, but rather because I felt as much of a failure as the program told me. It's personal, but in hopes to get this program banned... I wanted it to end so bad, that during my summer school, during break time I literally just up and left, I wanted so badly to avoid using this program because of the way we were taught and the way I felt.

To put this essay of a review in shorter terms: So bad it makes me wanna hurt myself and my chromebook by violently hitting my face with the chromebook, Not good at teaching or engagement, and horrible gradings.

Tip for consumers:

Here's a tip: DON'T USE IT! if you're a parent... don't let your kids use it, idc if you have to go full karen on the schools, do whatever to make sure your kid doesn't have a meltdown from this cursed program

From a Teacher's Perspective
April 17, 2021

Regarding my students' experience, some kids thrive on Edgenuity, some get impatient and some want/need a human's interaction so Edgenuity does not cut it with them. I support them with online/Zoom support but that doesn't really change the equation much. Weighing more towards the fact that some students do well (so learning is happening), I would give it 3 or 3.5 stars.

Regarding my experience, the website is clunky to put it kindly. Let me count the ways. It takes a dozen clicks to get anything done, about 6 more than is necessary. Many of the buttons/menu items have similar sounding names so it makes it difficult to find things - requiring more clicks! For example, if I want to add a student to a group and I go to the Manage Students page, the 'Add to Group" buttons is not shown. Am I on the wrong page? The menu for Add to Group only shows once I click a student's name. But, once I click a second student's name the menu changes again and the Add to Group button hides underneath another button and all of the other buttons change place. Whaaaa? It is not something that is done frequently so the learning curve is painfully steep.

Another example: If I am looking at my gradebook - a common thing for a teacher to do - and I click on a student's name to look at the details of their progress, I am brought to another page. If I want to go back to the gradebook, I cannot click the "back" button. It would be great if it brought me back to the page I was on. Instead it brings me to the top level of the gradebook page and I need - guess what - 5 more clicks to get back to where I was. Every time. And, the grade book page loads waaaaay tooooo sloooowly.

I could go on. I have been using Edgenuity for 3 years. Boy, I wish Edgenuity would hold a user's workshop or focus group to hear what is going on with their teacher facing website. For this it give 2 stars.

Also, some data is easy to get. That is, Edgenuity presents is exactly as I need. In other cases, I know the data is available but Edgenuity tells me (through Customer Support) that the data is not available. The Report Creation options are too rigid. Again, I could go on. But Customer Service tries and is typically on target with answering questions, even if the answer is that they cannot help. 3 Stars for Service.

To the extent that anyone reads this, I could say more but I shall stop here. Thanks for the opportunity to vent.

Edgenuity/Pathblazer Tech Support
April 10, 2021

I am currently running our virtual elementary school, and have been working in the field of educational technology for over 20 years, including serving as a district technology director. We have been using Pathblazer at the Elementary level for the past eight months. I gave them two stars for at least trying to help with our problem last time. Earlier this year (September), tech support tickets were going into an enormous black hole with no response at all. After submitting a support ticket in September, I did finally receive an acknowledgement a month later that read:

----------------
Hi MARCUS,

We're writing today to follow up on request number [ticket #]. First, we would like to apologize for the delay in response. As you can understand, we have seen an exponential increase in our number of requests this back-to-school season, and have been unable to give every request the attention they deserve. Since you submitted your request some time ago, we hope you have already found a resolution to your issue through the Help Center or by directly contacting your school.

If your issue has not yet been resolved, please respond to this ticket, so we can get you the assistance you need. We appreciate your patience as we work through this unprecedented time, and apologize again for the delay.

Sincerely,
Edgenuity Product Support
-------------------

I responded and told them I still had the same question. Two weeks later I received the same automated response.

More recently, I had an ongoing sound issue with a specific page design on our iPads. The sound would not play on those pages (but it played fine on the other pages.) Teachers were getting frustrated and were abandoning the product in frustration, and I shared that information in the ticket. It was seemingly random, and our tech team and I had used every tool we had to resolve it on our end. I sent a lengthy ticket explaining the issue, and what we had done to solve it. I also attached a video which showed the issue and also explained what we had done. You can see the video here: https://youtu.be/qarMNiiURHo

I did get responses back this time, an ongoing conversation of sorts, which mostly consisted of their tech support asking me questions I had already answered, or cutting and pasting generic "sound" related troubleshooting steps for Windows computers and Chromebooks (I had clearly stated that we are using iPads, and we demonstrated with an iPad on the video).

After a couple of weeks of back and forth, including my making a second video with even more information showing them that the problem was still continuing, the tech referred me back to my own tech department and closed the ticket.

The bottom line is this; you're on your own. The product works okay, most of the time, but this company has been purchasing their competitors for years and integrating various code bases into their system, so products can vary wildly. Some science and social studies lessons are over 20 years old, clearly reflect this, and have not been updated. The Odysseyware/Pathblazer teacher panel is based on Microsoft's ASPX (Active Server Pages) which was cutting edge decades ago; it looks and feels like 2003. Based on my experience, I would say the company is much more about sales and market share via purchase/merger than about improving, supporting and developing what they already have. If you experience a problem, you will probably get an answer from tech support, but don't depend on them. I like to feel that when I call tech support, they are working as hard as I am to resolve the issue, and I was beginning to wonder if the tech who was answering my emails was a real person... or JavaScript...

Issues, issues, issues!
March 17, 2021

It took Edgenuity 10 days to respond? Do you realize how far behind that puts my child if he can't access his class? This a shame that when we have a technical issue it takes this long to get a response and he can't even access anything in his class. You should have an automated message that pops upsaying, "Have you included these details in your message", or maybe prepopulated boxes based off of your log in information. Thank goodness we had someone else to help from the school even though it took 6 days to figure out the technology issues. The problem was that you provide certain courses requiring certain technology requirements, but don't verify with the school or district if those requirements are availble to their students. In this case they are not. Certain restrictions have to be lifted and not all Openoffice links or Adobe links are compatible with school provided devices or personal devices so Edgenuity should provide alternative links for various devices. Let's also discuss:
-Edgenuity changing answers on quizzes/tests
-Teachers discussing one thing during the Warm up/intro then asking questions about something else not related on the assignments & quizzes
-Submitting assignments & projects only for Edgenuity to glutch and the whole thing disappears
-Requiring use of PowerPoint, Excel & Spreadsheet for 6th graders. ARE YOU SERIOUS THEY DIDN'T LEARN THAT IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL?

This program was supposed to be so much better than the remote learning the schools were providing when Covid hit, but it is a disaster. And don't say you reached out to me and I didn't respond because I did, but the school helped us out, not Edgenuity. 10 days with no response is not acceptable and I was given the customer support info from a teacher so if you needed more info then refer back to my review for suggestions.
