Etrailer is my go to resource for all things for my truck and 3 trailers - Travel, boat and utility. This was a rare miss. I asked about a leaf spring replacement for a small kayak/boat trailer. I sent the measurements 33" length and 1,500 pound weight rating I needed. The recommendation was for a shorter 30" and heavier duty 2,900 pound set of springs. This simply would not fit, nor would it be good to have nearly twice the weight capacity, as the springs would not compress, making the trailer bounce like a basketball, delivering jarring to the kayaks. The front of slipper springs has an eye that is bolted to a fixed bracket on the trailer frame. The rear end slips into a bracket welded to the trailer frame. At rest, the end of the slipper spring should be fully inserted into this bracket. The 30" spring recommended would be about 1.5" short of fitting into the rear bracket. Again, a rare miss. Luckily, I know enough about this to understand that what was recommended didn't work. I took the spring to a local trailer shop and walked out with a pair of matching springs.

We were missing only a cap and the part was no longer available. We finally made one from a rubber furniture leg cover with advise from our hardware store.

Practical advice.
May 13, 2024

My question was answered with a good practical suggestion, which has been my experience in the past with this company. They are focused on answering your question rather than on making a sale, so I find them trustworthy...which has often led to my buying from then. Good business practice.

Received a quick and thorough explanation from Robin - thank you. Not the reply I was hoping for, given the etrailer does not offer what I am looking for, but so it goes. I was looking for a trailer hitch that is longer than 8 inches, that also has the sway bar tab on it. As always etrailer has been helpful and quick to reply.

Great help with tow harness
August 9, 2023

After a lot of research, I still could not find an answer to a question about compatibility of a trailer tow harness and a flat tow harness on my Jeep Wrangler. I submitted a question to etrailer.com and received and answer in less than an hour. Jerred was concise and thorough in his response and gave me the answer I needed. Great company with knowledgeable people.

As soon as I get the title for the truck. I'll be ordering the Reese Sidewinder and wedge. The Demco above bed rails have hex bolt heads on top of the rails. So I am looking at other rails to install, that have carriage bolt heads on the sides of the rails. I have trusted Etrailer for my projects and upgrades!
I tip my hat to a great company!

The hitch came promptly, instructions were easy to understand, and it fit perfectly. Had a friend help with the installation and it took about 20 minutes.

Conner's answer was just what I needed. I'm having a problem with the leaf spring suspension on a tandem goose neck trailer. It has 8K Dexter axles. Breaking springs, damage to the spring hangers and bad tire wear. We load a Bobcat track loader and drilling supplies. Not over loaded.
I'm thinking about trying the Sumo Helper springs or a shock absorber system. I like the Etrailer.com site.
Have ordered trailer parts from the site before. Thanks!
