Completely OUT DONE! I read the negative views, but I thought I would be different! NOPE! Y'all better RUN! They put me through hell! I make 5 times the rent and I have a decent savings. They requested documents they I got to them right away! It's too much to post...I'm literally 5 seconds from having a heart attack after dealing with yhem...then they gave the house away after telling me things will be fine. They think they can just put me in any house if I'm approved! Not understanding, I work 3 jobs. It took alot to find this one! SHM...I had to leave work for the rest of the day! Take notice to all the negative comments here as well as on other sites!

This is the worst place I have ever dealt with. I could go on and on like everyone else about maintance issues, rude customer service if you do get to speak with someone, the increase in fees for paying rent on their on-line portal (I have NEVER heard of such), how they give your private information to other companies, and on and on. But today, I just about lost my mind. They sent an email updating their privacy policy. It basically says they will give your information to who ever they want and if you do not like it, to not use their company. So, I called and said I do not like it, when I signed my lease with you this was not the way things are so you need to let me out of my lease as you stated in your email. Nope... they feel they can do what ever they want to do. So here is my question... would anyone like to file a civil suit with me? I think we all have enough information it would be very sucessful.

Slumlords
July 3, 2022

Am so irritated right now, I pay almost 3800 to move in a roach invested house. I can't even move in and on top of that the house wasn't even clean before I got the keys. Roaches in the refrigerator and stove. I ask for some more appliances and they told me they send someone to clean those. Now everybody know once roaches get in the inside of a stove and refrigerator there in the body and once I put food and start cooking they coming out. And on top of that they want me to pay for the cleaning service and they will reimburse me, so mad right now. Yesterday I have to clean the kitchen cabinets and bathrooms because they was full of roaches and coming out as I was cleaning. I have movers coming tomorrow to move me. Why the hell I got pay for guest I didn't invite.

I issued prior notification to First Key's office on 3/1/24 that my lease would not be renewed and terminated on the lease ending date and that the move out would commence and complete on 5/14/24. I did my due diligence and issued that notice more than 60 days before the lease termination. I am legally bound to give only one notice in the state of Georgia. On May 1st, 2024 I called in because their office neglected to adjust my account accordingly with the prorated rent for the month of May 2024. I never received any calls from their office scheduling a move out inspection as stated would be done in the lease agreement, so I will have to assume that they did not update the termination date on my account. I have since received notification that First Key has charged me for the full month of May 2024 rent, some sort of insufficient notice fee, and the month of June 2024 rent. I requested to receive, in writing, from their office that they have cleared those balances from my account immediately. I requested to receive this notice by 6/7/2024, or I would have no choice but to go to court where I will sue for Declaratory Relief and ask the court to make a judgement that I am not liable for any money due after the rightful termination of my lease with your company. I submitted a BBB complaint to help enforce my request and resolution with First Key. To date, I have not received a resolution. Be wary of First Key and their move out tactics.

I rented from Firstkey for 3 years and had nothing but problems. They are very nice until you are moved in and then garbage. No matter how spotless you leave the property they will keep most of your deposit. They are very slow to respond to issues like trees falling and destroying neighbors fences. They will charge you for issues that are not your fault, like a toilet not working properly. I had a roof leaking throughout my entire living room that ruined many large items and they took months to decide to let me move to a different house because they couldn't figure it out. We couldn't breath from the mold that it was producing everywhere. And then I see that the moldy house was back up for rent within days of us moving out. Garbage company that no one should ever give a cent to.

They are stealing from residents. Report them to HUD with documents to support your claim. Also FREC and the DBPR if they hold a real estate license which I know all of them do.These ppl need to be out of business. Those living condition HUD is going to make them pay!

First Key Homes has a huge problem in their maintenance department. I have requested numerous times for them to fix the gate and have only had them come out and half patch it up. We're going into hurricane season and the wind recently blew the gate open from the back corner. This isn't the first time this has happened yet they come out and do a half job or report to the main office that nothing is wrong with the fence. The maintenance request process is asinine! You have to call, give them the issue, and be booked for a tentative appointment. Only for someone else to call later to actually schedule! I have missed so much work it's not funny. Then, if they come out and look at the issue and there's more work to be done. They mark the work order as COMPLETE and then you have to call again to request another work order for the follow up. I recently requested the sliding glass door be fixed. The worker came out and said this is a two man job, so submit another work order requesting two people come out! Over a month of time will have been spent before the issue will be fixed! There's so much more I could say, but I'll end with DO NOT RENT from them. They're not going to listen to your concerns and a property manager doesn't even call or respond to emails! Now I have to figure out what to do with my dogs because they keep escaping out of this raggedy gate! AND I PAY PET RENT!

I've never encountered anything this bad
September 2, 2022

The application process is an unmitigated disaster. The web page barely functions, not allowing input in many areas and kicking you back to the beginning repeatedly. After finally getting through that and paying the application fees, the demand for an unbelievable amount of additional documentation is sent. Documentation that is needlessly intrusive and well beyond anything reasonable or customary. Send them all emails and email threads from my company relating to my transfer? Really? Like I'm going to send them privileged internal communication from my company? Provide copies of 1040's for my wife who doesn't work, and my son who is a student and doesn't work? Provide "2 BS"? I don't even know what that is. Emails from 5 different people requesting that I send them the exact same information I already uploaded on the website? Multiple telephone calls from me, messages left, and not a single return call. Had I known that the substantial amount of information entered and the documents uploaded through the application were just a start, I would have stopped right then and never would have paid the application fees. But I suppose that's exactly what they want. The lack of coordination, communication, and ridiculous requests for unnecessary and unneeded documentation to simply rent a house makes me seriously wonder if this isn't a fraud or identity theft operation. Trust me... look elsewhere.

Their homes are not taking care of. Due to their not maintaining the property, I had to call the fire department due to fire in attic. On top of paying an arm and a leg for a home that could have burnt to the ground, they nickel and dime you to death. Have you ever heard of paying service fees for "security" to use a credit card to pay rent and utilities? Almost 30.00 a month extra, which they do not tell you about until AFTER the lease is signed. FIRSTKEY HOMES ARE CROOKS.

The absolute WORST COMPANY I'VE EVER DEALT WITH. Please don't make the mistake of renting from them. They don't care about their properties or people or anything. If anything goes wrong in the home, you will just sit and wait and call useless customer service robots who won't help you. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!

This is by far the worst rental company I have ever leased from. No AC which is considered an emergency, yet you want your rent on the 1st. Its 86 degrees in my two-story home. I hate this company.

According to Jeff Hancock it appears that there was an undercharging error in the previous months where my electric bill was significantly lower than the average. He stated that charges of $55 in the past was unusually low, and unfortunately, this was not reflective of the actual usage. To correct this discrepancy, the recent bill has been adjusted to include the amounts that were undercharged previously. According to the bills received, there should only be an increase of $30 per month. This will reflect an electric bill of $86.00. From the time my lease began in August- to now with an added $30 will be a total of $270. According to the bill I received from Firstkey, I currently owe $701.04 and my ELECTRIC BILL ALONE will at least $250. A monthly increase that is 5x more than the original price is unfair renting practices. This coupled with an increase in my rent by $180 makes this practically impossible to pay.
I am a teacher and I am not in my home from 7:30am to 4:30 pm therefore it is impossible my electric bill should have an increase of over $200 a month. I am requesting a bill adjustment and a rate increase that reflect the meter readings as noted on my bill.
I would also like to bring to light that this increase comes within 60 days of my lease expiration. This makes it almost impossible to find another home in time.

Rats in the home
August 12, 2023

We have had rats in our attic since June 9. Pest control has been here at least 6 times trying all different things to catch them. Most of the problem is because they can't get to the area the rats are running around because there is no attic access. 5 days ago a pungent smell of dead animal throughout the house. Call FKH to get approval to go to hotel, left a message, noone called back so we left and went to a hotel. Called 3 days in a row and left messages, no call back. Finally talked to FKH property manager and was told I may not get reimbursed because I didn't get approval first. She said she would talk to the maintenance Mgr. About the access and call me back. Still no call. Not only do we have a dead rat in the house, we have a live one running around and there are live maggots showing up on the floor because of the dead animal. FKH needs to take this as a serious emergency and provide immediate action. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE to have anyone live this way. FKH, you know how to contact me.

I rented from First Key Homes for…8 years
I rented from First Key Homes for little over eight years was never late with the rent always took care of the property. When I moved, I could not get them to respond to anything prior to the 60 days of moving. All they did was give me the runaround of what to do who do contact and I never heard anything back from them. They are the worst management company I have ever experienced. Do not rent from this company. They tell you that they're offices in a location and when you go to return things or collect paperwork, you find out that they had moved two years prior. Then you, do not rent from this company. They tell you that their office is in a location and when you go to return things or you collect paperwork you find out that they had moved two years prior. Then you were able to track them down and you can't get in. Because they have no one working. You cannot get a work order completed. They keep sending the same individuals out to look at an issue and they keep telling you that there's nothing wrong with it. Really consider other alternatives other than First Key home.

I am a current First Key home resident in the Clayton, NC area. Let me just say, the company is horrible when it comes to maintenance. My home has had heating/AC issues 3 times in the last year, current issue being now. I have no heat or air. Submitted a request on February 28, didn't get a technician to come look at it until March 1. Technician could not fix the issue so they assigned a vendor on that day. The vendor declined the order on March 2 because they said they were "too busy" to come fix it. Another vendor came March 3 but stated it was an electrical issue, not an HVAC issue. They notified First Key immediately, as did I via the useless call center that can resolve absolutely NOTHING! The call center stated they cannot assign a vendor only the local manager/office can and they ultimately can't assist me any further. I even spoke with a call center supervisor, POINTLESS!

I've requested a call from my local office since Wednesday, I've heard from no one. Even reached out to the property manager located in the Charlotte area (which controls the area I reside in), I've heard nothing from her. I've tried emailing and calling, no response. I've literally been texting the initial Maintenance technician that responded initially to ask him to get in contact with his manager. The manager still has not approved an electrician to come service my home. Day 5, still no heat or AC and not a call, text or email from the local manager to assist with resolving. WORST COMPANY EVER! I will be considering breaking my lease due to the failure to repair my heat/AC within a reasonable time.

Stay Away!
May 29, 2023

Do not rent from this management company. They do not communicate. Emails and voice mails are unanswered. My move out was a joke. They sent a single email about an inspection. I responded, but they never showed or confirmed. I ended up moving out at the end of my lease without an inspection -- I left 3 emails and 3 voicemails. Then, they send me a check for about 25% of my deposit 2 weeks after my last day. They charged me for things I'd already paid and had done -- clean house, cover nail holes, trash. I spent $500+ on getting the carpet professionally cleaned, professional house cleaners, etc. I should have just saved my money since they were going to charge me for it again anyway. I'm just one of those people who thinks they should leave it as good or better than when they got it. FirstKey obviously thinks they should milk you for every dime. They even noted outside painting that they charged me for that was on my move in inventory -- meaning it was there two years ago and noted. Didn't matter. I was not allowed to be involved with the inspection, so they could do what they wanted. In short, they cheat you. Stay away.
