I am a survivor of sexual assault. I had been making legal complaints and emailing a number of official authorities and legal attorneys. Gmail described this as spam and decided to block me out.

Gmail has the inability to change a telephone number in already existing email addrresses. When there is a 2 step verification to sign in it will only ONLY use the existing phone number with no chance to use the email address when I had chosen to get the 2 step verification and TRY ANOTHER WAY is just that there is not a chance to use another email address another number. For those who do not quite understand what I am saying: if i change my password for my email and chose to leave the 2 step verification (which is already chosen by google) YOU GET LOCKED OUT if you had changed your phone number prior to that - there is no way of getting google to acknowledge the new number for the old email address thus YOU GET LOCKED OUT

I ONLY use gmail due to not being able to find another kind that does not require a mobile phone & has free large storage (so far). I correspond with many government agencies. One of them is the US Dept of Defense. When I try to reply to one of their emails, Gmail refuses to let me reply. They have been reported to the DOD for that problem along with a screen shot.
I send large amounts of emails along the lines of tips/stories, problems & issues as well as networking types. I send these to the media, both locally & around the world, government leaders & politicians, including the President's Advisor, FEMA, FBI, DHS, OIG, USFA, etc. I have to put the standard disclaimer on every email: "Gmail is a dinosaur, forgive the unprofessional appearance!"
Forget about the so-called "draft" feature. It rarely works. I see that gmail unbelievably has a high rating on here. I can only imagine it is their own employees putting them up. When I'm composing & want to go back to a paragraph & edit something, I click where I want to go. It does NOT go, it skips all over the document. I type 140wpm & gmail is a total waste of time when I have to keep re-composing & constantly have to correct gmail's technical problems. If others are using gmail for resumes, etc., anything OTHER than actually emailing, maybe that's why they're "so happy with it". There are quite a few government agencies currently trying to make gmail work in Colorado, but that is about to change. They're griping as well & demanding a better email service. As for giving gmail a capital g, they don't deserve one.
Tip for consumers:
Use Gmail ONLY if you have NO other choice. It's a humongous waste of time for journalists, reporters & government workers.

I'm on sitejabber TO find a good email service. Gmail needs to have REAL reviews on it, not those fake ones. The FTC has recently warned large companies like Amazon, Apple, Walmart, etc. for posting these fake reviews with the consequences of fines and/or jail time. Go get them, FTC! https://www.businessinsider.com/ftc-warns-amazon-walmart-hundreds-companies-fake-reviews-face-fines-2021-10

Gmail is so easy to use and have more programs included combined. Not only can I save files to my Gmail account, I can create files and other things. Awesomeness. Would definitely recommend.

Gmail is an excellent service. It's fast and has a great interface, however everything else is questionable to me.
1. It has a tendency to get spam at certain volumes in only certain amount of times. Often, they are fake Chinese companies trying to sell fake products. I only expected this from Yahoo, not Gmail.
2. The idea of having to have a Google Account just to use Gmail is irritating. It would've been nice if it was an option to merge all Google Services to one account, instead, they force users to create a full Google Account just to use Gmail.
3. Along with the Gmail account, you're also pushed to use Google's failed G+ connected to it. And deleting the G+ account still makes it complicated to change, remove or edit your "Gmail" avatar image. It was buried all the way in Picasa Web Albums (what the heck?)
4. Google Drive is necessary for files over 25MB which is convenient but come on, really? Users are forced a Google Drive account into their Gmail "Google Account" so you have to upload your files there. Plus, 25MB is such a small number when even one PDF can exceed that limit. They're purposely luring users to use the Drive feature.
Overall, if you just want a good email service and don't care about your privacy or the additional Google Account, this is for you. If you value your privacy and only want a good email service, look elsewhere, although there really aren't many options.

A very good free mail service. I found only one down side and that it's a little slow on slow connections. POP and IMAP services work great though on slow connections.

I recall that in the early days of Google, a staff member suggested as a corporate motto, "Don't be evil". With Gmail, I fear that reasonable motto has been forgotten.
A couple of months ago I set up a Gmail account and used it for a few days to communicate with acquaintances before leaving on a trip to Italy. While attempting to send an email home to my family I got a message from Google that they had detected "suspicious activity" on my account and I must respond to a message sent to my cell phone. I didn't have cell phone access in Italy so there was no way I could comply with their request. However it really didn't make any difference because a couple of minutes later Google shut down my service, claiming I had violated unspecified terms of service. (All I had done since opening the account was send and receive perhaps 20 personally-addressed emails.) They provided an email address to which I should write if I disagreed with what they did. I wrote - three times over a space of four days - but they never responded. I scrambled to set up an account with another email provider, but how many email messages I missed in the interim I'll never know.
When I got back home I wrote a (postal) letter to Google's corporate headquarters asking for an explanation. Their response? None.
My complaint with Google is not for mistakenly determining a "terms of service" violation - they need to guard against violations and we all make mistakes. But to lure people into accepting a service, then without warning shutting it off when they most need it, *and* refusing to even acknowledge their subsequent entreaties, let alone respond to them - THAT is evil!

In comparison to other email services I've used, Gmail is convenient, pretty easy to get the hang of, but customization.

Simply, Easy to use, and powerful. I do all my email here. There are many features included that I would have to pay for else where. Love it!
