Sorry to hear you feel mislead, Peter. The blades last 7-10 shaves on average, and at $2 per cartridge you should be saving quite a bit of money as compared to the market leader's equivalent five-blade cartridge.
So far I'm digiin the quality of the shave and the convenience of the auto ship. Greatly appreciate the price point.

Sometimes it just takes a little time to adjust to the differences in a new system: it often really helps to experiment with the angle at which you're holding the blade and the amount of pressure you're using (too much or too little). With that in mind, we're glad to hear you'll be giving it another few tries.
Also, we're wondering if the single precision Trimmer Blade on top of the cartridge may have been a part of your poor experience. It was designed to help you reach those hard to reach areas, such as under your nose and the lines of your side burns. To use it, simply turn the razor around so that the 5 blades are facing away from you, and bring the trimmer (which is a single blade on top of the cartridge) up to your hair. You should notice as soon as the blade reaches your hair. We just thought we'd mention it just in case.
