Beware of purchasing anything from this company. I purchased a clock kit and when it arrived, it was missing 2 wooden items. It is impossible to build the clock without them. I called customer service and gave them the stock# and description. I was told these "parts" did not show up on their inventory list so they will find out why. Said they would call back later that day or the next day at latest. 4 days passed and no response. I called again and they told me the guy who can correct it is in a meeting and as soon as he gets out she would resolve this issue with him and she "promised" she would call me back ASAP. She never did. 3 days went by. Called again and she said the guy (Adam) in charge would call me no later than the next morning. He never did. Never did get the parts and my unfinished clock sits on my worktable. NOTE: This is a very small, family owned (50+ -) employee company. It's not like some large, public company who has policies/practices in place that would prevent this. This little company doesn't care. Don't do business with them.
My problem is the bad experience with the ordering from Klockit. First problem is I selected "two day" shipping when I ordered it as I needed it quickly to meet a deadline. 5 days later I called to ask about the order and was told my request for "two day" did not show up on their order documents. They told me at the time they had processed and packed the order and it was waiting to be shipped. I asked them to expedite shipping since it had not yet been shipped and was told "we can't do that as we have already processed the order. (Even though they had not shipped the order and I was willing to pay to expedite.) Three days later they actually shipped that order! It took over 12 days before I received the clock. Very frustrating at how incredibly poor their order management and shipping process has been.
After all this, they sent me a request to provide a review. I sent them the same thing I wrote above. They refused to publish it. In other words, the reviews you see on their site are not complete and they apparently hide reviews that aren't positive. Can you trust them?
I had a clock that I hated because it kept poor time. I replaced the movement with an atomic one from klockit.com and it is now my favorit clock. Best $14 I've spent in a long time.
I ordered Klockit's Tavern Clock kit recently. When I received it, it was packed well and came fairly quickly. Given the $70 or so price, I was pleased with the case. One should be careful choosing the finish as it doesn't take stain consistently, but a paint finish would probably do well. The movement that was included, however, was a piece of junk. Three AA batteries are required - one for the movement, two for the chime mechanism with a wire between the movement and the chime mechanism, and another wire to the speaker. The sound that comes out is tinny and sounds very fake. While the movement mounts in the center dial hole, the speaker and chime mechanism require some imagination for mounting and location. A hole must be cut somewhere close to the movement (most likely in the back) so that the chimes can be heard. The main problem seems to be that the movement stops, or keeps inconsistent time. When I reported the problem to their tech department, they suggested that I buy another movement. Let me repeat that: they want ME to buy a different movement. My view: either include a better movement or none at all and make it clear that a separate movement is required. Fortunately, I have another one purchased from a different vendor which I had intended to use elsewhere that I used in this case. I'll buy another movement from another vendor (ANY other vendor), but I won't be buying anything else from Klockit. I have bought many things in the past from Klockit, but based on their response to this customer's complaint, I have purchase my LAST thing from them.
UPDATE 11/12/2014:
Within a couple of days of my original review, Klockit contacted me and offered a 15% refund on my purchase. While they often give discounts of 10,15, or 20%, depending on the amount ordered, at least they did respond through SiteJabber. Had my original contact with their tech department been handled in the same manner, I probably would not have issued my initial one-star rating. Thus it is that I have upgraded that rating to three stars for "OK."
