INCOMPETENT! Three people stuck me 8 times in one visit
December 7, 2023

I went to the 1510 Central Ave Glendale Labcorp 12.6.23.
After Vera, Vicki, and Helan tried to get a vein, I had been jabbed 8 times. I have many bruises from my veins blowing up.
These ladies are incompetent and lack confidence in getting a small vein in an adult. I am very disappointed and will change my insurance so I will not have to use labcorp for my medical needs in the future. There is only ONE phlebotomist at this location, or ANY location who can get my blood samples on the first and only stick. That person is Mirium. She was not in yesterday. This is all so stressful and feels abusive.

Please see attached photos of some of my injuries.

I had made an appointment on line for the 1510 Central Ave Glendale location and had to wait longer with an appointment than I would have as a "walk in." I live in Toluca Lake and can never go to the Labcorp in Burbank because the incompetence in getting a vein is worse there so I drive to Glendale. Further, a woman in the Burbank office named Barbara was so horrific to me that I was in tears. Yesterday, I heard that the Burbank office had closed and Barbara is now at the Glendale office and is the person who checked me in. I was there over an hour and was stuck 8 times by 3 people before my blood could be drawn.

I am bruised to high heaven and I don't take blood thinners that would cause such bruising. I don't take any medications in fact. There is NO excuse for the treatment I endured yesterday. NONE.

When it came to getting my blood samples, they were ALL Extremely incompetent and unprofessional. I do wonder if Barbara has something to do with my wait time and with the treatment I received. While this thinking may seem paranoid, a thought like that should never be a thought in a patients mind. Being I have small veins, it is stressful enough to get a blood draw as it is. Also, when I am hospitalized, not one time has a phlebotomist been UNABLE to get a vein on a first and only stick. Labcorp has some of the most inadequately trained employees I have ever seen. You need people who have experience working in an ER.

Quest is 100% better than Labcorp. I stopped going to Quest because my insurance changed. As I mentioned in my previous note. I plan to change my insurance so I can go back to Quest, where they actually know what they are doing. I wanted this to work out, and I refuse to be abused one more time by the Labcorp staff.

A visit to LabCorp ended up with a visit to the ER. I'm not joking.
September 5, 2023

Today (9/5/2023), I had a scheduled appointment with LabCorp (Glen Allen, VA) for a employment drug screen at 14:15. Thi s was my second scheduled appointment in two weeks. Today, I arrived at 13:55. To prep I had about 24 oz of water so that I'd be able to provide a sample. When I to the LabCorp inside Wahlgreens, I was met with a lot of unhappy looking people. One young woman (about 20 years old) stated that she has been waiting since 11:00 and had already gone to the toilet 4x waiting on a drug screen. When I arrived she was doing the pee pee dance and stated that she was in pain. Another lady said she had a 13:15 appointment and it was now 14:10 and she still has been seen. Another lady pointed out that she had been waiting for several hours as well. They all stated the lady doing the drug screen had left for lunch at 13:10 and had not returned as of 14:15. Sadly, I knew it wasn't looking for me. Last week, when I came I couldn't provide a sample and was told to drink some water, which I did. Shortly after i drank the water, the woman doing the test said she was going to lunch and would be back in an hour. I had to go within 10 minutes of her leaving. I was also told I couldn't leave the area. Long story short when someone got around to seeing me, my bladder felt like a tightly stretched drum. No matter what I did, I couldn't urinate. I ended up going to the ER for a good old fashioned straight cath. I'm not joking. I was completely miserable. The full bladder was way worse than the straight cath. I can't stress the pain I felt. Days later, when I finally started to urinate in a somewhat normal way, I wondered how waterboarding could be a worse torture than a full bladder and not being able to urinate. Today, I waited until 14:15. I knew there was no way I could wait an hour. I went to the bathroom. By this time, the young woman was writing in pain. The lady returned from her lunch break at 14:10, and she finally opened the door for service at 14:23, after the young woman bangged on the door and pleaded with the technician to see her before something bad happened. Two of the ladies didn't have appointments, but had been waiting for along time. Finally, at 14:55, she called my name. Now, I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to urinate since I had already gone about 45 minutes ago. Well, it took another 15 minutes before I had access to the bathroom. Fortunately, I was able to provide a sample and leave LabCorp where I've had the worst customer service ever. Once I was in the service area I told her that people cannot wait hours to go to the bathroom. Giving blood is way different than providing a urine sample. I didn't really get a response. Again, I thought how could waterboarding be a worse torture than a full bladder and not being able to urinate.

LabCorp Bothell - never
June 10, 2022

I moved from California to Washington about a month ago. I have been using LabCorp throughout my time in California and with the move I suggested to my doctor that we keep it that way. So, my doctor forwarded the test order to the LabCorp in Bothell.
FACTS:
On the 4th of June I was at Bothell's laboratory and presented myself for the exams. My blood and urine were collected, and I received a bag with a bottle to collect the feces and I was told that I should put my name and date of birth on the bottles.
Today on the 6th when I returned, I couldn't leave my samples because the order could not be found. After a long time, I discovered that inside the bag I received with the bottles and other objects to do the collection, there should be a paper describing my exam. I simply discarded it because I was not instructed to bring it back. But it certainly shouldn't be a problem finding my order.
After more than an hour with no solution for my case, I asked to speak with the Supervisor/Manager and then I was directed inside the lab. It was clear that they didn't want the people in the lobby to know that my test order had been lost.
Upon entering, an employee named Brooklyn asked me to see my samples and I showed her inside a plastic bag, and she tried to take it out of my hand, which I obviously stopped her.
It was then that this woman started screaming saying that I would have assaulted her and that she would call the police.
Calmly I decided to sit and wait for the police, as I had nothing to fear if Brooklynn called the police, but the receptionist (Josephine) kept trying to resolve the issue of losing my exam order. That's when Brooklyn, seeing that I hadn't been intimidated by the threat of calling the police, gave up. She lost control even more and become a hysterical person, getting totally out of control, red, gasping and walking in circles and repeating insults nonstop to my person. Several times I was forced to be blunt with Brooklyn and even rude to her, in order to try to continue the conversation with the receptionist.
After an hour and a half, I was already afraid that my samples would no longer serve for analysis, I decided to leave, leaving my phone number with the receptionist and leaving Brooklynn even more hysterical.
CONSIDERATIONS:
1. I had to discard the samples because I was told they shouldn't be refrigerated, and I already had them out of the fridge for over an hour.
2. My appointment to review my exams will be on Monday and due to the total disorganization of the laboratory, I will not be able to present all the results that my doctor expects.
3. My doctor sent the exam request (several) to LabCorp, how can LabCorp not find this request, in the past two days before I received instructions to do that exam?
4. Could it be that such disorganization only happens in the order area? Or can it also happen in other areas? Could it be that my samples were lost, and, in their place, others were analyzed? Will my results be my own or will they be someone else's?
5. Will this disorganization be in all LabCorp units in the Seattle Area or is it specific to this unit?
6. Should a person as unbalanced as Brooklyn be working with people in a health facility?
After two operations and 6 months of chemotherapy, during the next 5 years I will have to do several tests from time to time and the least I hope is that this happens in a place that I trust and that I don't need to stress more.
Unfortunately, due to all the facts described, LabCorp is neither a trustworthy nor a friendly place in my current understanding.
I hope LabCorp will review its procedures preventing more people from having the same feeling as I do today.

First Time Visiting Labcorp with Telemedicine Direct Access Lab Testing
February 13, 2021

So, as a millennial I am of the opinion that standard doctor appointments are utterly useless and have started using telemedicine platforms. I use Wisp (or HelloWisp.com), a telehealth platform and EverlyWell.

I received a Lab Request from my telehealth doctor for annual STI testing. I was told to:

"Please choose the Quest Diagnostics or LabCorp of your choice (you may walk in or schedule an appointment) and present the attached Lab Request to the be tested. Your lab may require you to print this Lab Request out."

Of course, I wasn't going to "walk-in" during a pandemic so I scheduled an appointment online with Labcorp. I received a printout and the instructions were very clear. Given a ton of negative reviews about Labcorp, I expected to run into issues.

After booking the Labcorp appointment online, I received a detailed follow-up email that confirmed how to prepare for my visit (including Covid precautions such as waiting in my car until I received a text to come in, scanning my Driver's License to speed up check in with LabCorp | Express, etc).

I arrived 15 minutes early as suggested and waited in my car until I received a text to come inside. I went inside scanned my DL and then was ushered in for a standard Urinalysis test which took less than 10 minutes. I was told I would receive a bill in the mail and results within 2-3 days (this does not include weekends).

To expedite results receipt, I signed up for their patient portal to manage my account and review results online. I think not doing this is why so many people have issues with LabCorp. It's clear that's how they are set up and without portal access, you're left waiting on your doctor to confirm or calling regularly. As a millennial, I'm tech savvy, so it's no problem and preferred.

So, I received my bill 4 days later (via the online portal). And the portal confirmed lab results would be ready the next business day (Monday). So, on the 6th day following my lab visit, I received my results online. This includes the weekend (2 days longer wait).

The bill was in the portal and I paid it online as well.

I'll say this, Labcorp is expensive. After researching other telehealth and lab options I will not use them again because a standard STI test (includes 3 tests) via Urinalysis cost $384 - out of pocket (no insurance).

This is steep considering you can use other telehealth platforms and get the same test for 1/2 the price with their preferred labs.

The visit was perfect, the online portal is also set up well. I waited 6 days for my results. I can't compare this to any other experience because prior I'd go through a doctor and wait for results from him/her. But overall, I like going direct with lab access and cutting out the middleman (a non-essential doctor's visit) for standard health screenings.

The experience was fine. No issues. The only reason I docked 2 stars was because of the cost. Nearly $400 for an STI urinalysis seems a bit absurd. Otherwise, I'd use them again if needed.

After reading all of the negative reviews I really do think LabCorp experiences vary by market and demographic area. I live in an affluent suburb and as such the level of service is probably indicative of that. So I'd recommend reading Google Reviews of the LabCorp location you choose before making an appointment.

WORST CAREER CHOICE OF MY LIFE
July 11, 2020

I began working at LabCorp right as COVID-19 began. I was hired for a Massachusetts site for second shift. Instead of company delaying my start they had me driving to a different site, in a different state, different shift everyday. This made scheduling any appointment impossible. Still, I hung in there. I was placed for 3 weeks at a location where Spanish was the first language of coworkers. I am not Spanish, I don't speak Spanish. Since COVID-19 was at its peak we just sat there for hours. Two Spanish women had bluetooth device on their ears, and were FACETIMINING their friends, speaking loudly in Spanish all day. Any sort of VIDEO Chat, video recording is strictly prohibited by HIPPA. When patients would come in they could be seen and heard discussing personal medical info by whomever was on the phone. All this occurring while I was taking an online course about work ethics, and workplace harassment. The main topic of the course was "It is considered unethical or harassment to continously speak to one employee in a language that is not understood or spoken by another employee. " when i was finally placed at my location I had to take my 1 and only break 1hour into shift because the first shift ends an hour after my start time. I was not only drawing blood, I was centrifuging, aliquoting, poring off urines, entering orders, chasing down a team of 7 Medical Assistants for specimens that i had to enter before end of my shift. Every single night I had to stay anywhere from 35 minutes to 2 and a half hours late because I was the only Phlebotomist. At beginning of my employment LabCorb did not have Phlebotomist testing people with COVID-19 symptoms. Patients were stabbed and drawn outside by another company. But when that company wasn't available I started noticing COVID-19 NASAL SWAB ordered on requisitions. When I inquired about this I was told " They only were showing 2 symptoms, so it is ok." I knew it was because drive-thru testing was not available that day so doctors would swab, then send patients who may be infected to me to draw. In the evening there wasnt social distancing, patients would be 15 deep waiting for me 1 Phlebotomist to enter orders, draw, spin, aliquot, etc. Daytime limit was 3 patients in only. When i would ask for help because I was staying too late, social distancing wasnt occurring, I was told to not sanitize after each patient, do not enter orders till after all patients left etc. So, basically cut corners so patients don't have to wait so long, but also patients wouldn't be able to see what their insurance may not cover, and what they would have to pay as patient responsibility. Extremely unethical, and dangerous. I was expected to do the work of 4 people and stay until every sample was finished regardless of only being a 30 hour employee. So I worked 39 hours, or 42, hours even though I was told " Once and awhile you might have to stay 25 mins to half hour late." LABCORP IS A HUGE COMPANY WHO TREATS EMPLOYEES AWFUL, and HAS ZERO INTEREST IN PATIENTS QUALITY OF TREATMENT. LABCORP CARES ABOUT MAKING MONEY ONLY. I finally quit after a 350 pound man came barging in my draw room while I had a needle in a patients arm complaining he had been waiting 15 minutes, and it doesn't take that long to draw blood. Of course he didn't understand or know that i had to lookup, enter, print out and explain to current patient imperative instructions on 12 stool samples she was doing later that night, before I took her blood, and had the doctor, or 1 of the 6 Medical Assistants taking the time to find correct codes for tests the blood draw would have taken only 5 minutes
And if Labacorp had replaced scanner for medical cards and credit cards as i asked many times, my computer wod not have wasted 2 minutes SEARCHING FOR SCANNER, that didn't exist.

Unethical
October 3, 2019

The initial problem was that I was strolling on my phone QUIETLY as she gathered her things. She became rude when she told me to let her see my right arm and I switched the phone to my left hand. She told me I should be a good little girl and put my phone away or she wouldn't draw my blood. After I told her I was a grown woman she told me "you're acting like a 2 year old because your strolling on the phone on whatever app while you're in the dr office. " I responded by telling her again that I was grown and she needed to go ahead and draw my blood. She replied that I didn't tell her how to do her job and that I could come another day or go to the hospital and get it done. I told her I wasn't leaving and to draw my blood. She told me I was very rude and trifling. She began to thump my veins instead of using the palpate method and when I told her too stop she responded by saying "you don't tell me how to do my job. If you're a Phlebotomist then you draw your own blood." I got out of the chair and she continued with her insults. I walked into the hallway and ended up meeting the office manager. She came in to defuse the situation and Theresa and I continued back and forth because she continued to say smart things. She told the manager that she didn't say any of those things and I told her she was a liar. She ended up to admitting that she had said SOME of the things and that she was sorry. I know I'm not the only person she has been nasty too. I understand we all have bad days but that was TOTALLY unacceptable I hope that you don't just sweep my complaint under the rug. Being a fellow medical professional I know that that's is not how you are supposed to treat your patients and that type of Behavior is not accepted by the ASCP or AMT.
