Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
Do to their new policy of charging the buyer so many fees the site has become unusable, I purchased a coin for originally 399.00 after service fees and shipping and payment processing fees the total comes to 495.00. Now why you someone continue to buy from them they charge 2.9% and the payment processing fee isn't standard either its based off price of items. The site is littered with counterfeits also, you can report them but it does no good. Its a shame the greed that's came from the company, I've made arund 190 purchases from the site but no longer.

So Mercari has changed their pricing structure to now charge the buyer with ALL fees, leaving the seller to reap all the benefits! Trying to purchase a $110.00 wig m. With all the fees attached, including what the sellers percentage used to be, results in a whopping $154.00 purchase! I absolutely ludicrous! Reaching out to customer service and my response is, "we have millions of happy customers". Right, in your dreams. My last purchase was a wig that was listed as brand new. Came with tags REATTACHED AND DEFINITELY WORN. Had a horrible smell and of course it was just before they changed their return policy back to allowing returns! NEVER, EVER, EVER AGAIN!

This company astounds me with the most unhelpful, unprofessional, and complete ignorance when it comes to customer service.
I bought an item on Mercari about a week ago and the seller shipped the wrong item entirely. The price difference was very significant so I reached out to the seller and told him the issue. He immediately responded and stated it was his fault and he would refund my money to start the process through Mercari. The problem was, because of confirming with him, I started the return one day outside of the 3 day return policy. I asked Mercari to make an exception that the seller admitted the mistake and was willing to refund my money. Well 10 customer service reps and one supervisor later, they still absolutely refuse to allow me to start a refund. I showed proof of the conversation with the seller and they still would not budge on their decision.
Well Mercari, that's fine. You've forever lost a customer that incorrectly thought Mercari was a good alternative to eBay and others. I will refuse to ever use this trash company again and I will tell everyone I know and plenty of others who I don't know how horrendous they are when it comes to their customers.
DO NOT BUY OR SELL ON THIS APP!

I speak from over 20 yrs experience selling online, mercari is ghe biggest, lieing, thieving, site out there. They dint deserve the 1.2% rating they have. They deserve to be shut down, sued, and made to reimburse all the loyal sellers they have screwed over. They can take your money without your knowledge, lie about why, znd erase any evidence that they took it. You are not allowed to open a dispute about anything they do or decide, and they do not answer or even acknowledge any questions or request you have in the matter. It's what ever they want yo do. I can't believe it's even legal fir them to do what they are doing. Don't get involved with this site, you will regret it. I've no idea why or how they are allowed to do what they are doing to people. I'm just beside myself, my advice DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS SITE, BUYING OR SELLING. YOU WILL BE CHEATED AND CAST ASIDE LIKE YOUR NOTHING.

I sold and after yrs of doing so, in 2 months time they took over $100 from my acct claiming overage on postage, that's a bold face lie, I challenged them, and they would not even hear me, example: people I sold and shipped 1 drinking glass that wieghed 10 oz, they claimed it wieghed over 4 lbs, and took all the money from my ssle, and did not give ma a fair n decent chance to dispute. They done thus several times in yhe last 2 months I was with them, after yrs, what they are claiming is impossible, thus site should be shut down, I don't even know how what they are doing is even legal.
Be very careful with the Mercari platform itself when buying or selling.
The company's A.I. Bot scans ads and transactions for activity that could be 'construed' as a violation thus prohibited conduct.
The system will then simply shut-down your account and attempt to freeze your funds.
- Escalating the situation to a human/customer service has no bearing or influence at all.
- It almost seems like this is one of Mercari's revenue streams is to shut-down account and keep your funds.
I highly recommend using other well known and trustworthy platforms instead.

I bought a product that turned out to be a fake and I was told by Mercari customer service that the only way to get a refund for a seller selling counterfeit goods which is against Mercari policy is to get a letter in writing from the company that makes the product I bought verifying that what the Mercari seller sold me is counterfeit. There is not one reason to shop at Mercari.
I am appalled. I should've looked at customer service reviews before I put my order in so many unhappy people with this company. Well, I am with you. All these people must not have graduated from high school. They don't even know what the 50 states are they say they shipped to 50 states I'm in Alaska. I'm in a state in the United States this is so wild. I have never encountered so many nonsensical people in my life. They say that Alaska in Hawaii do not get USPS or FedEx deliveries. I get them all the time now I can't even contact the seller because she graded out twoblooms don't order from them because they can't figure out the United States map and where to ship to, so someone might even get your order and not you. They have me going round and round. Allen just wants to tell me that he cannot ship to me because they only ship to the 50 states laughable and rude. Do not order from this company please. It's a bad idea.

Purchased 2 speakers that were grossly mis-advertised. Seller even admitted it. I asked for a return label and never received. When I reached back out to Mercari for the label they said it was too late---- I only had 3 days to return. WHAT A SCAM MERCARI is. STAY AWAY FROM MERCARI!

Mercari and its HORRIBLE customer service are a no-go! Don't waste your time. The customer service reps do NOT have any interest in resolving any of your issues if you are a buyer, and it means they lose out on money! They are not helpful AT ALL. Fees to the buyers is a ridiculous business move. Can't believe they thought this was the best move in their playbook. They need to change fees back to sellers before their sites fails. No customer service what so ever available. Extremely limited return policy (72 hours after receipt, no exceptions). Charges extra fees of the customer without proper notice. Limits the amount you can offer for a product that will accept offers - it appears this is just to boost profits for Mercari. Under "contact" Mercari will only allow extremely specific, predetermined questions. I WILL NOT USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN AND WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.

purchased used product from a vendor on Mercuri. vendor was good, but Mercuri is NOT customer oriented and is unwilling to speak to a customer and will not allow customers to speak with vendors on their site. This site is ripe for scams and poor quality vendors. I was lucky to find a good vendor but will not take the chance again. Only even attempted the purchase because this is the only place I found this product for my disabled daughter without having to go through a medical supply company and paying hundreds of dollars or more for the same item.
I placed an order for an item. Mercari reached out twice for the seller to ship the item. Upon seeing that Mercari reached out, I did as well. Then this seller decided to get angry with me and called me ugly. I responded telling her that I merely wanted an update oh my order, and that her calling me ugly was inappropriate. I found her rude unkind. So please beware of this 'shop'. She is rude. She cancelled the order so that I could not leave her a review. I did notify Mercari, but I doubt anything will come of it.

Make sure you never end up on Mecari's hit list. I had a listing reported as not being authentic. I reported to them that it was and the verification reasons with pictures, but they said if someone reported it, it could not be undone.
I tried to list a mystery box of women's clothes with types of clothes, sizes, etc AND I even put pics of the clothes that the buyer may receive. They immediately flagged it and removed it. I went through the site and marked quite a few other mystery listings as well as took pictures of those listings. I was told that they could not target all listings and told me if I placed it again, they would withhold all my earnings without any warning or expected return. Every day I am finding more listings and reporting them as quickly as I can. It's unfair and they need to do a better job!

Beware of buying from this site as returning an item will be impossible. I bought a backgammon set, when arrived I noticed that there was a large mark on one outer side and the actual inside field was peeling. When asked for a return they asked so many irrelevant questions and images that was evident that they did not want to approve the return.
For example they asked for the images of the box that arrived which had nothing to do with the condition of the game box, or images of places that had no damage.
They never addressed the fact that the images sent showed existing damage when they declined a measly $40.00 game set.
Will NEVER buy from this site regardless of the price.
Not worth it. You buy an item that you found, get it shipped, says it's delivered yet NEVER was, as I was home, and they require you to do all the work to create a claim with USPS. This is a joke, boycott this site. Worth just buying from Amazon and/or store as they are least take responsibility if not received or damaged. This site is a joke.

Purchased something for the first time through this website, firstly if you have an issue with part of an item (of multiple items) you have to return the entire purchase, they should limit sellers to sell single items for this reason but don't. They don't encourage or support buyers for sellers improperly packaging items to prevent damage. If you return an item or have any issues you cannot rate the seller. This site is terribly run, there's no organization, there isn't any protection or support for buyer. I do not recommend and will never buy anything from here again.
Buyer beware! If you experience ANY difficulty with a purchase, it's next to impossible to get resolution! I bought a Glo Lit teeth whitening tool that simply did not work. Even tried the manufacturer's troubleshooting tips before attempting a return. First, you have only 72 HOURS! To request a return -- completely ridiculous return window -- and their return process requires 8 photos (which, in my case, proved nothing; there's no option to upload the video I took demonstrating that the device didn't work). Never again. I've deleted the app from my phone!

I bought a sculpture from Mercari. I wasn't home until more than 3 days after delivery, so Mercari says that I am SOL. Seller wants me to file claim with shipping company. Shipping company says that I can't file claim because I didn't ship the item.
I don't know how Mecari even gets 1 star. Avoid at all costs.

Email and chat responses from support are irrelevant. The seller was also perplexed by the Mercari error blaming Paypal. Paypal said no errors on their end and my cc company said they saw no transactions. Mercari support would not take ownership of their bug. Sad since ebay and facebook marketplace need competition yet Mercari is off to a bad start.
