Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
Recently bought a BluRay set on this site that turned out to be counterfeit - When I contacted the company about this it turned into a comedy routine in which every picture or detail I sent them via email was answered with... requests for more pictures and more details. I've never experienced anything like it - You think that when you tell a major online retailer that someone on their site is violating copyright law they'd be eager to take the bogus merch back and give you a refund? Not Mercari. And despite their supposedly having offices in the U.S., I don't think their customer service offices are based here. In fact, I suspect that the email customer service system is actually an AI program designed to exasperate anyone who has a complaint. I've never experienced anything like it before and hopefully never will again - I haven't gotten my money back, but I did use PayPal when ordering and they're usually good about refunds when it comes to stuff like this. Let's hope. I'll close with a warning: no matter how desperate you might be for a good deal, Mercari should be avoided at all costs. I'll never order from them again. PERIOD.

I have been on Mercari since mid July of this year (2018) I have had many sales and am very satisfied with the customer service from Mercari. I have done very well selling lots of different items. I have made several purchases as well, and am very satisfied from my experiences from purchasing on Mercari as well. I know a lot of people criticize Mercari for various reasons, but overall, I find it better than ebay since the fees are so reasonable, and I can sell my stuff that I don't need anymore much easier than other websites or apps. I LOVE MERCARI, and hopefully I can continue to use this site for selling and buying. THANKS MERCARI!

I was a seller on Mercari and was the recipient of unsubstantiated, one sided accusations from the company. I was messaged that they were cancelling my account because I was selling inauthentic merchandise. This was completely false, I am a busy professional with way too many new handbags in my closet and decided to thin out my collection. All of my bags were purchased by me and still had price tags on them. I sold one handbag and received an immediate five star review from my buyer. The next thing I knew this bizarre, unwarranted message came through accusing me of carrying inauthentic merchandise - the company was unwilling to give any explanation for their accusation - despite many requests by me for more information.
To add insult to injury Mercari would not pay me for my single sale. First they claimed I had given them an incorrect bank account number then they changed their story and said that I hadn't complied with their verification process. They would send responses to my numerous requests for payment written in incoherent word soup.
My hands are tied, I'm up against a multimillion dollar company who doesn't care about honesty, integrity or customer service. I'm going to file complaints with the FTC and BBB and any online platform I can find but I know it's not going to get me personal closure from this corrupt company.
Tip for consumers:
Do not sign up as a seller. There are much better, more honest and accessible resale platforms. I’ve had solid experiences with EBay, Vestiaire, Poshmark and Fashionphile.

Where do I begin. The fees are insane, and both the seller and buyer are charged a ridiculous fee, the whole app and site are designed to trap users into their platform so they can get their money. They don't care about customer safety. Bots actively monitor chats and flag anything they think could potentially cost them money. All other markets warn you that you won't be protected should you venture outside the safety of their market but they understand if users feel safe they will shy away from fees simply to make a few extra dollars and accept the risk that comes with that, and that's on the user. Mercari will ban you for even mentioning going somewhere else with less fees or even for requesting more pictures of the product before purchase. Sellers have to overcharge for their products simply to make ends meet on this platform, I constantly see things sold that when I check on amazon, you can buy for 10-15$ less than the Mercari pricing, but they have to overcharge or they lose out. It's a sad market and they deploy tricks and tactics to keep users coming back. Coupons, credits, deals, etc... None of the other marketplaces need these shady tactics because they are solid platforms and are reasonable and respect their users. If I could leave zero stars I would.

Stay away

I have been selling on this app for almost 2 years with over 2400 (that's right. 2 thousand and 4 hundred) positive ratings. I worked very hard. My response time is less than 60 seconds and I ship daily. However, with the recent March 2017 update, this changed entirely. New listings will NOT show up on the general search page or home page. I listed something for sale and checked it a few hours later, I couldn't find it. I used my friend's phone to search it and nothing. Even after I filtered down to the specific model, color, size, brand, and etc, NOTHING. I contacted customer service via email (they don't have a number for people to call) to find out why. They told me that they recently implemented something new "to prevent crowding" as they call it. This really sucks. No one will buy from me if they can't see my listings. This feature reduced my sales by 90%. This is one huge step backward. Mercari had A LOT OF issues, I didn't complain because it was FREE to sell. Now, they charge sellers 10% selling fee. Hopefully, enough people will complain about it and they will go back to the way it was or something different. Because if enough sellers leave, it will effect them as well. If you are thinking about selling on this platform, just beware of this feature. IT'S SO BAD. I have already moved on to other selling platforms because I need to move products everyday. A large chunk of my income is depended on it. Until they change this feature, I'm probably not gonna go back to them.

Love this site for selling or buying. I have sold over 100 items in two months, much more than I ever would on eBay. Mercari also has the lowest fee for selling out of all online selling stores. I had an issue with a scammer buyer and they actually got me my money! The buyers are Mercari are awesome as well not like the buyers from eBay. Though Mercari does have flaws they are a growing company that I think blew up too fast for them to keep up with at the time. It is getting much better and I never once had a problem with customer service. Calling may take a little longer than most but as I said they're a fast growing company this issue will be fixed sooner or later, but you can always email them as well. They respond quickly with an issues you have. Overall my favorite selling app, wish this site didn't get such a bad rep give them a chance to correct their mistakes and keep it moving. I got scammed on eBay for 350 dollars a month ago and I'm still in the process of getting that money returned. Not hating on eBay but to act like it is a much better selling site you're crazy. Mercari will keep improving if more have known about this site I probably would have sold over 200 items. So if you're a buyer looking for cheap goods download Mercari and give it a chance you won't be disappointed! All small independent sellers should try selling on this site, you won't get out sold by larger companies.

I purchased an Electric Ice Shaver from a Wall- - -, Researched ice shaver extensively prior to purchasing knew make and model right for me... Post said "New in box, never used - - supporting little people before a corporation I purchased this Upon receipt, the box had an orange upc sticker, particularly removed and many others on and removed. These stickers are on return items that go to pallet sale/auctions, I have seen many. Now I questioned "new" or "used". Did not want used concern's: germs, contaminants, health issue. I Immediately requested a return with all required pics, "had to open the box" and take the item out anyways for pic., "to many" emails later and about 16 pics of the item and box I was finally issued a return label. 24hours after shipping, I checked the status, to find a message from the seller, "calling me a liar, accusations about making a hasty purchase and making it difficult for his business"! I had to follow the policy not to message/ email the seller per customer service. "But the sellers can intimidate the buyers"! Per "his" message, "he has pics also" told me how I should return the item", which I had gotten from Customer Service already. I expect that he will dispute the return... beware Mercari does not have requirement on pallet items or how sellers treat buyers, get all
Details before any purchase. (I shortened sellers name to protect myself from retaliation and respect)

If purchasing a product make sure to get all facts, ask questions, check sellers rating

I'd give zero if I could. Been buying and selling on this platform (and other similar platforms) for years with little issue. But recently bought an item that stated it was a signed item by a specific person. Received the item but is signed by a different person. I have authentic items with signatures of both, so I submitted a side by side comparison adding specific notes detailing exactly why it was not the signature the lister claimed and return denied (like, within minutes). Mercari closed the transaction with no possiblity of recourse- didn't ask for more information, didn't allow me to supply additional evidence. So even if you continue to dispute, which I did, it becomes "not possible" for mercari to authorize return because funds are released to the seller and they refuse to refund. Customer service gave canned answers over and over and over, refused to escalate my dispute or offer any specificity for the denial. Basically threatened me when I said I would report their lack of adhering to their own guidelines and refusing to address my issue. This item isn't even that valuable, but dang it's the principle of the thing. I was defrauded by a seller and mercari refuses to thoroughly address it. At this point, my only option is probably just to chargeback and get a lifetime ban. It's literally pathetic. Don't buy anything you could have authenticity concerns over from this site, ever unless you personally know and trust the seller. You have no protection as a buyer.

Like many people, the pandemic has put a hurt on my finances - so I decided to clean out my closet full of luxury handbags, some shoes and jewelry. Everything was going great - real great. But, they make you pay $20.00 to authenticate handbags - and if you decline (because you know it's real) they will do everything in their power to nit-pick you off the site. For example: suddenly making your posts inactive or deciding something is lost in the mail and refunding a customer without talking to me! So rude! I was tracking the package in question - and it would have arrived late - but just how the USPS works at the moment - not at all. It was wonderful UNTIL it wasn't. At the moment I hope everyone stops selling there. As a seller can't reach out & speak to anyone - so you're left with a dictator-style situation. Sorry. I like a democratic company where I can at least reach out and talk and see what we can do together to warrant whatever problems arise - but no. It's Hitler - or nothing at all. Good riddance! I used to love this app - now I detest it.

I have been selling on Mercari for several months now, having earned over 120 five star reviews, 100% customer satisfaction. I also made many purchases. Mercari decided to change their shipping policy, and listings automatically defaulted to seller paying shipping. I had an item on sale for $25.00 and my original posting was buyer pays shipping ($15.00, it was a large object). Because of the default I ended up making $7.50, having to pay the $15.00 myself. I have been in contact with Mercari multiple times, and have written negative reviews on other sites. I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Mercari's response has always been they were sorry but unable to do anything, not taking responsibility and blaming me. I truly loved Mercari (was fed up with selling on eBay), but any company that refuses to resolve such a simple issue doesn't deserve my business. I pulled my remaining listings (dozens of them), and will no longer buy or sell on Mercari. If I can just steer one person away I'll feel better about it. They are greedy, do not care about sellers and any company willing to throw away many years of potential profits over a mere $15.00 refund seems on the road to self-destruct. I do not wish to hear a response from them, but their practice is to try and act like a caring company (they are not). It's tempting, but if you sell they will get you eventually.
Tip for consumers:
Don't sell here, they will not back you up if there is any problem at all.

I'm disabled, which is why I used Mercari. I purchased an item for less than 10.00. It arrived broken. The Seller used almost no bubble wrap to wrap breakables and then mailed them in a thin plastic mailer. I documented everything to Mercari with pictures. Their decision was that I had to return the item in 3 days before getting my money back. I explained repeatedly this was punishing me as I do not drive, have a life threatening illness, do not own a printer and was a new resident of the state I'm currently in and know no one yet. Mercari kept telling me to find a friend, a neighbor, etc. I don't know about you but I don't typically appreciate a new person moving in contacting me to do me a favor before they even know me and I them. The world can be dangerous! Mercari said it was a "rule" and if not returned, they would release funds to the Seller who should have known how to mail something properly and didn't. She didn't have to do anything! And no amount of asking Mercari to look at people's circumstances mattered. Stock answer-- it's the rule. Sick or dying, too bad. They care not! I thought they could at least make some decisions based on intelligent thought and reasoning. They treat handicapped customers atrociously!
Tip for consumers:
Mercari is a big gamble. You're on your own because Mercari Support does not exist. If you choose to buy an item and it's as described, and the Seller ships quickly and packages carefully etc etc, then you might have a successful transaction. If you need help, you're on your own, no matter if the fault does not lie with you and you have all 5 star reviews due to being a good customer!

I made a purchase and the seller only sent part of my order which was for $450 when I complained Mercari went ahead and automatically give the seller a positive rating then completed the transaction with no resolution by the seller to complete my order, then closed it all down as if it was all good. They do not protect the interest of the seller in any way at all and have arbitrary timelines that progress a sale even if there is a need for resolution by the seller. DO NOT USE THEM!

WARNING ALL OTHERS.
Seller named: beeautyinlife
Stupid seller cancelled my purchase without notice. Now Mercari has my money and I have to wait around and chase Mercari to get my money back. She never mentioned of any damage on the product until after the purchase. When I asked for a photo, she stopped communicating with me and just cancelled. Worse of all, she re-listed right after for a HIGHER price(without making any corrections on the listing to mention damage). Wtf? When I looked at her records, she had dozens of cancelled transactions.
The app doesn't allow buyers to leave negative reviews after a cancelled order which is stupid you can't warn others.
Seller should be banned from the app. Flag her account! Why is Mercari still allowing her to sell on their platform? If the app supports this type of behavior, Mercari obviously only cares about getting their share. They'll side with whatever is beneficial to them. They don't give a $#*! about BOTH buyers and sellers. Their response is always general answers that doesn't do $#*! to solve your problem.
Don't buy anything from this horrible seller. This is the worse app I have ever used. PERIOD. Run. Save your the headache. Trust me, not worth it.

I purchased a so call "Saffiana leather Furla bag" I went to request a refund as the bag is fake. The material feels like a sort of PVC material, parts of the bag are glued and not sewn, the stitching is off, there is no tag or I.D. number, all of these things scream "knock off." However, it was listed as it was a "Furla Saffiano leather bag." The site will not allow you to complain at all. I go through all of the steps and it will not let you submit any type of criticism. The only box it will allow you to check is the "I received the package and accept the item." If you do Not submit a review, it will submit it for you and you can Not complain or get a refund. "SCAM!" This site is a scam, I am out money, Mecari sit has no human contact. The site will not even allow me to email them. No phone number to call them either. Do Not use this site to buy anything!

I'm reviewing as a seller. I found this and figured it'd be a good way to sell my items faster since I have them listed on eBay and Poshmark. Unlike the two other platforms, Mercari doesn't allow listing items from the desktop computer. I don't get why. I would have to transfer images to my phone just to upload on the app. It also won't let me copy and paste product titles or descriptions. Then the app refreshes too quickly, that when I upload images and leave the app to get more information, the app closes the "listing" window. Plus, this would just encourage sellers to make errors since it's hard to work with the small device, at least in my opinion.
You can only upload FOUR images of your item! FOUR is not enough. I would say the low fees and shipping options are the only reason why it's better than Poshmark. Only allowing four images is definitely going to encourage problems with potential buyers. They won't get the idea of an item just from four measly pictures. Sorry, but I rather not risk having every other problem everyone else here seems to have. Mercari has potentials but some of these things need to change.

Today was my first time using Mercari, and it'll be the very last time too. I tried to buy an item that I found listed on Mercari through Google, and in order to buy it I opened a Mercari account for the first time. Mercari has a make offer function and I thought the listing price was high so I made an offer that was $10 lower than listing. The seller accepted my offer, but after the seller accepted the offer, the transaction actually failed. The seller wrote me and told me this has happened to her multiple times; when people made offers and she accepted, the transaction would for some weird reason fall through. So I just decided to try again. But when I was trying to make the offer again, I saw that it had been advertised on the items page that an offer had been made and that it failed, and suddenly this item was in two other people's carts. (Mercari must've notified these people who were watching this item about this failed transaction of mine, so suddenly everyone was trying to buy it.) So instead of trying to submit the offer again and losing it while waiting for the seller to respond, I just paid full price. This whole experience was STUPID! It sounds to me like there's a giant flaw in the system. Why would you provide a make offer function if it doesn't work? Are you intentionally trying to sabotage the buyers' success so you can create opportunities for the item to sell better? Well good job, you may have made this item sell at full price, Mercari, but you lost me as a customer FOREVER! I'm definitely going back to eBay and NEVER coming back to Mercari again!

I was just told by Mercari, that I am not allowed to sell genuine US minted silver eagle coins, minted in the United States, and they are also certified as genuine by reputable coin certification agencies like PCGS and NGC. I do not know why any US American would continue to use Mercari, knowing that it's banning the sale of genuine US minted coins. American silver eagles are as American as baseball and apple pie. I was shocked.

Mercari is great when it comes to refunds. And there app is very easy. But I was shocked that I am being banned from Mercari for selling US minted coins.

Using Mercari is a nightmare. Many of the things you need to do can only be done on the app, which is not intuitive at all. After cycling through the same screens over and over for at least 8 cycles under the guise of security measures, I was finally able to log on and place an order. After two weeks the order had not shipped, even though I was charged immediately. I tried to contact the seller, but I couldn't receive my authentication text because my phone number had been tied to the wrong account. When I finally got that fixed, I contacted the seller to find out when my item would ship. Nothing. No contact. Crickets for a week. I finally tried again to get into my account and cancel the order only to be directed to use the app. You can't do anything on a regular web browser, it seems. Even when Mercari sends an email with a link to take some action, it can't be done because the web version has almost no useful features. That may be fine for those born in the 21st century who live on their phones and tablets, but I'm much more comfortable using my laptop, so when it comes to using Mercari in general, I'm forced onto a tiny screen with a poor user interface. I've now gotten through the hoops to request a cancellation for my unshipped item, and so I wait. No help so far from Mercari's so-called support, so I don't think there is any actual buyer protection. Even if I find a killer price on an item, I won't try to use Mercari to purchase it. The platform simply isn't worth the headaches, and I don't appreciate paying for items that I will never receive.

Of all the orders I have ordered I typically have not had too many issues but over the course of 8 months 3 of the orders I have purchased have been frustrating. One order from June of 22 the seller sent wrong Item, I know what I bought and what description section says, I tried to message seller and no response… then in November of 22 I offered an amount for a set of hair products the seller accepted offer and then never sent order, now am dealing with another order that the seller only sent one correct item, description section says one thing and never sent part of the order. When I messaged her she says sorry for the mistake and has the item but never offered to send, then when I ask her if she plans to send that item she says she needs my address and typically can't create a shipping label without my purchasing something else, are you kidding me? It's your problem seller not mine, figure it out…. It's not hard go to the post office or UPS, write my address on the envelope and they will print label…. So over this app…. Will not be using anymore… too many issues and stress just to get the items you order.

This sight is a complete joke. Ordered some headphones for my son's bday as they were $90 here and I wanted to get them fast as they claimed to be new and only had one pair available. Well I didn't open the box as they were a gift. Gave to my son this weekend and they were scratched, full of dirt around padding on ear part w/ hair on them and surprise they don't work. Here's the best! You have 3 days to return and if you don't they even write a review for you. So the reviews you see are fake read message below to verifying this. Here's another thing. Had to get a new pair from Wal-Mart. Look at the difference. They are not even real! If you have money to waste order here. Shame on them! Scammers! Watch this guy will change his profile cause I'm calling him out. Karma is ugly. You do dirty. You get dirty. Hope it hits him in his pocket book like it did mine. I'm not adding my proof of purchase info. There's your proof I ordered. Hope my bank handles it and he never gets away with it again. I will be going to the BBB. I'm not stopping. This is wrong!

Purchased an $80 dollar item. Due to mercari's policy, you aren't allowed to see or request tracking info for 3 days after items ship. But if you dont contact them to get tracking then you can't get a refund when item arrives. Once the item arrives you have 2 days to rate the seller to complete the transaction, OR THEY RATE THEM FOR YOU. There was no update on the shipping, no tracking. I asked the seller, no response, then this morning, I got 5 emails in a row, just minutes apart minute apart"order delivered" "rder shipped" "c"plete transaction" "tr"saction complete" In that order. I was scammed. Item never arrived and Mercari said "we "n give you 5% off a $20 purchase for your $80 + tax and shipping loss.
