Mold across the top of brand new cumin. I heard from sleeker who worked there that the place is dirty and gets written up for code violations all the time. Disgusting and overpriced.

I've used Penzey spices for years. They are so fresh and flavorful. A little goes a long way which makes them economical to use, unlike the spices sold in stores which are often mixed with non-spice ingredients and require 3 times the measure to get any flavor out of them. Also love the Wisconsin connection. As a life long (69 years) resident I can categorically state that we are not known for our political reticence so why should the Penzey CEO be any different, lol. And just so you have balanced Wisconsin outspoken political opinions, we gave you Sen. Ron Johnson too. Your welcome.

I order from penzeys for most all my spices and I have yet to be disappointed. I often receive free goodies with my order as part of promotions, the depth of the spices is phenomenal, and I appreciate how they are upfront about their values, and also inclusive to marginalized communities, and not just in words, but in actions

This is the best spices money can buy. They have everything you can think of too. Every meal is gourmet when cooking with Penzeys. I lightly cover my broccoli and cheese with Penzeys sandwich sprinkle and it's the best thing I've ever tasted. The last time I used Penzeys pasta sprinkle I remember thinking the same thing THIS IS THE BEST THING I've ever tasted. My boyfriend is Russian and my grandmother happened to give me the Russian spice packet.he was very impressed by my cooking that night ;). I've bought from this company several times, my mother introduced me to one of their very quaint little stores near my hometown several years ago and I've loved them since. I understand some of the comments are put off by the politics, but it's definitely not a standalone thing by any means as so many companies do it nowadays. But I've always loved the products, I've never had any issues with anything. If I had anything negative to say it would just be that they're a little pricey, but I love the cake spice for baking and I'm willing to throw down on it.

The spices are always great and fresh. I used to go to one of their stores in Santa Monica and everyone was friendly and helpful. Phone service has always been good as well.
As for the political stuff, we are supposed to be able to voice our opinions without fear in this country. Maybe all the haters should watch Arnold Schwarzenegger's video about hate. After looking at some of the reviews, I can't help but think that they were posted by people that don't like the company's opinions rather than being about the quality of their products.

So, looking at the reviews, I see a lot of 1-star ones, mostly from people who think Bill Penzey's political views somehow translates into the quality of his products. Many are filled with outright lies such as mold on the products and dirty stores. There is no truth to any of that. I would bet that they never even bought anything from Penzey's. I have shopped in-store as well as online for years and have never had one single issue with anything. The stores are clean and smell wonderful! The online shopping was fast and the products are well-packaged and fresh. As I run out of a cheaper store brand spice, I am replacing it with the Penzey's brand. Bill has been in the spice business for a long time and travels the world to get the best products he can find. His blends are so flavorful and you won't find them anywhere else. Many of his products are salt-free for those who need to watch their intake. He is passionate about food and cooking and shares recipes, both his own and from his customers.
I urge anyone reading these reviews to take the negative ones with a grain of salt (pun intended), set the politics aside and try them for yourself. I started buying the Penzey's brand way before opposing political views were a reason to leave negative reviews instead of the product itself and I will continue to buy them well into the future.

The best quality spices that I have ever had the pleasure to use. Penzeys spices can easily outdo any ethnic shop's quality and selection of spices; their hot cocoa powder is out of this world. I would shop here and buy culinary gifts for everyone and anyone who loves spices and cooking any day.

Have been delighted with every spice I have ordered from Penzeys. And I will always stand with them because of their political bravery. Thank you I am embracing hope!

If you notice the vast majority of the negative reviews bring up Penzey's liberal politics... and has zero to do with the quality of their spices.

Here's my experience with Penzey's... their spice blends are handsdown some of the best around. Spices are fresh and flavorful.

They almost always have a crazy good special going on (buy one get one... freebies... special low prices on selected spices, etc)

Not too long ago, Penzey's sent me a free "hug" blanket just because I asked for one. I was feeling down about a friend moving across the country and I shamelessly nominated myself for one. I didn't even pay shipping on it.

Penzey's gives a lot to their customers... so much so, that I sometimes wonder how they turn a profit. But they have my loyality because I see that they actually care... about their customers, about this nation, and about this world. It's rare to see that quality in a company.

Also did I mention the spices? They are really, really good! My personal favorites? Fox Point & Arizona Dreaming. Ruth Ann's is good, too!

Takes forever to ship and their need to be belligerently political is weird…. I definitely won't purchase from them again.
