Do I like Pinterest? I like the idea of Pinterest. I have more pins than most humans. I use Pinterest to find a lot of good recipes and ideas for work. However, their deletion of pins has gotten ridiculous. They're threatening to take action against my account for "offensive content" pinned on private boards (I like to store things that are private in nature to me, and no, I'm not talking porn or murder…more things of a political nature). They've also threatened my account for posting things that a particular owner of the content doesn't want on Pinterest. I understand them supporting that individual's copyright, but how am I supposed to know it's copyrighted? Usually I just repin what other users have shared and would have no way of knowing the owner doesn't want it on Pinterest. They deleted a pin of Sheldon Cooper alluding to having sex once a year (totally harmless). They took down a pin about suicide from a mental health perspective (it did not encourage suicide, it promoted awareness of the importance of dialoguing about it). Their community guidelines have become over the top. It's become almost weekly that I get their surprising emails about deletion of pins (which, of course, I have a higher likelihood of because of the sheer number of boards and pins I have). Pinterest is something I do for guilty pleasure and the last thing I need is to worry about the content I post, which is pretty benign in nature. They've become more of a nuisance than the Facebook police. The interesting thing is, the content they've been taking issue with is OLD, as in its been there for years. But all of a sudden it's (fill in the blank...offensive, hurtful, sexual, etc.). They're tightening their algorithms, which clearly have no brain to use common sense in deciding if something is actually offensive. Just what any of us needs...frequent threats from the Pinterest Police, telling us to go through ALL our boards to delete offensive content. I wouldn't say the content I save is particularly offensive to others–although with political stuff there will always be about 50% of the population who disagrees (but those boards are private anyhow). Content is subjective and Pinterest has a way of deeming non-offensive things offensive. With the number of boards I've got and the thousands of pins I've saved over the years, I don't have time to read through every board trying to decide what Pinterest might find offensive. A fun hobby should never become a headache.
PINTEREST IS GUILTY OF DISCRIMINATION!
MY DISCRIMINATION ISSUE WITH PINTEREST IS NOT UNCOMMON. I URGE YOU TO CHECK THEIR BBB RECORD & OTHER SOURCES ONLINE AS WELL! I received an email from Pinterest this am stating my account is suspended due to "harassment". I've sent approx 10 emails to them today & delivery of each & every one of them was blocked by Pinterest! I've also made approx 20 ATTEMPTS to complete their online appeal process & THEY'VE BLOCKED EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM AS WELL! Upon completion of their entire appeal process, I get a reply from them stating I answered their Capitcha question incorrectly, but the process doesn't even include a Capitcha screening! I've read their community guidelines many times in the past & (although I've had some heated discussions with Liberals who routinely post rabid attacks on my pro-conservative pins) I see nothing I've done which violates Pinterest standards; however, my pins are littered with routine attacks from liberals which contain blatant violations. I'VE EXPERIENCED THIS HORRIFIC HARASSMENT ON PINTEREST FOR YEARS! Just to name a few, said harassment is based on my status as a military member & mil retiree, status as a disabled vet, religion, sex, race, political affiliation, etc. Pinterest guidelines state they're not concerned w/ conflicts based on political affiliation, but they guarantee protection from all other subjects I've mentioned. I've reported many of these incidents through the years & Pinterest did absolutely nothing for me. So imagine my surprise upon receipt of this email. Also, imagine my extreme frustration with following their lengthy appeal process to the letter more than 20 TIMES in a single day only to receive a repeated bogus reply from them referencing incorrect answer to a NONEXISTENT Capitcha screening! After filing numerous harassment reports in the past myself & having Pinterest ignore them, I became suspicious & decided to research this issue. The number of complaints just like mine posted on the BBB site, social media forums, discrimination whistleblower groups on Facebook, news articles, etc is astounding so (obviously) this is not an illegitimate complaint! Pinterest's BBB ratings & complaint history contains numerous complaints which are very similar to mine. Obviously, these sources indicate a clear pattern of Pinterest's unwarranted suspensions & failure to respond to complaints from those who have boards/pins which indicate they're conservative/Republican. I will continue to post detailed updates on this issue, because... CLEARLY, THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS/LEGIT ISSUE WHICH IS INEXCUSABLE!
Pinterest runs an extreme, intolerant and puritanical censorship regime. It deems even very mild images as"pornography"and as"inappropriate". I have found its policies on pornography and inappropriate material very hard to comply with. Their response, if you breach, is harsh and punitive. They remove pins and threaten suspension. Their judgments are subjective and nonsensical. They infringe freedom of expression and freedom of speech. I received a reply when I complained about their treatment of me. Basically it was:"YOU SIGNED UP TO OUR CONDITIONS". This misses the point. I have found it impossible to comply with their policies. I have deleted over a dozen boards. Lost over 120 followers. I am worried about EVERY pin I might choose. They say body art nudity is OK. But they removed pins of tattooed women. They say artistic nudity is OK but they removed a pin of a well known actress. The photograph was taken from an off Broadway stage show in the early 1970s. I would strongly advise anyone to avoid Pinterest. If you do go on to Pinterest, keep in mind that pins within their system are not safe. You can save a pin, to your board, from within their system and be in breach of their policies on"inappropriate"material. They will send an email notifying you that you have breached and that the pin has been removed. They may suspend your account or threaten suspension. The same goes for saving pins from other boards.Do not assume it is safe. I did and was on the receiving end of their punitive treatment. You are supposed to save pins from other boards, so this makes them even more unfair. You should also be very careful about the subject matter of your boards and even, I would say, certain individuals or celebrities you may put on your boards. Also many pins are now being blocked because they lead to"inappropriate" material. I had a pin featuring a photograph of Robert Redford blocked. Another pin of Joan Collins was blocked. Even a pin featuring a photograph of a Police Officer was blocked. I also find the concerns of Pinterest peculiar. They are very hard on images of women they deem"inappropriate". But I have seen boards, on Pinterest, that mix images of women with guns. Even mixing images of women with guns and coffins. This is all OK. But a deemed sexualised or"inappropriate"image and your account is suspended. Once I was searching Pinterest when a warning popped up. I was being warned to stop that particular search. Pinterest is authoritarian, intolerant and stupid. Just about all of my time on there now is spent worrying about their response to any pin I may choose. Trying to second guess them is impossible. Pinterest contains countless images and photographs. Many truly fascinating and interesting. Many quite beautiful. But Pinterest is run by the wrong people. A puritanical, harsh censorship regime will conflict with many of these images. There appears to be no lack of people on Pinterest reporting pins and boards. These people appear to have enormous power. A pin or board is reported and the saver of the pin or pins is punished and the pin removed and the board deleted.
(Here is a cartoon image of the illustrator. IT MAY NOT BE ACCURATE AND THIS IS PART OF THE SCAM!) Using icons of either gender, that are also misleading.
She/he, advertises on Fivrr as an illustrator. AVOID HER AT ALL COST. Fivrr is also in league with this scam artist, because she is a level 2 seller. Avoid her and that site. It promotes those scam artists that rips off people. It's an open secret. Just check the reviews about that site, here on Sitejabber and other places.
I requested that she/he, illustrate a children book for me, on that site. And to avoid getting a bad review, she had my order cancelled. All that I did was to specify what I wanted and that was not what I got. I asked for one revision and she said okay. I said fine, I'll wait for it. Next thing I know I was contacted by Fivrr, that Customer Service had cancelled my order.
First off, she sent me a vector cartoon, that has nothing to do with the story, I wanted illustrated. I tried to be patient and ask for a revision. She/he said that she would. I tried to be so nice to this seller and scam artist. I will post my conversations with this seller, to show that I was not breaking any of Fivrr's policy.
I tried to be nice to this so called illustrator and she or he, (because you can't trust the icon that they put up), sent me a vector art that she got from somewhere, and which had nothing to do with the story that I wanted illustrated. When she/he thought that I would give her a bad review, she panicked and pulled some real funny stunt and cancelled the order. Well, she is getting a bad review here.
AVOID THIS SCAM ARTISTI, ANY WHERE ON THE INTERNET, THAT SHE MAY CONDUCT HER BUSINESS. IT IS NOT WORTH IT. SHE IS A TOTAL RIP OFF.
Not beyond using unethical means to get good reviews on Fivrr, that are also undeserving.
The fact that I have a Pinterest account at all should prove that I love it because I hate social media so much. I'm a 24 year-old with no facebook, no snapchat, no twitter, no instagram etc. I just have Pinterest. Usually I don't have a problem with Pinterest's new updates. They are supposed to make the site more navigable and user family. However with the past few updates that has not been the case. Let me start with the new inbox. You used to be able to send pins in messages to your friends with relative ease. That is no longer the case. Now you can pin the image from your inbox, you have to open the whole thing, and when you open the whole thing the message icon goes away so that to write a response you have to go all the way back to your inbox. Not to mention you can't just click out of the new pin that was sent to you and go back to the page you were just looking at. It's like opening up a whole new page, and it didn't used to be that way. It makes checking messages really inconvenient. Secondly they took away the slideshow button. I don't know why you would remove this feature. It was pretty handy if you were making an aesthetics themed board. Lastly, the suggested pins. I find this especially annoying because it had the potential to be a great feature, and at first it was. The problem with suggested pins is that they really need to improve the way they find pins to suggest for you because lately they get it so wrong. The suggested pins are supposed to be based on your recent Pinterest activity and now I believe they use your browser history as well, but some of the things Pinterest has suggested for me lately are so left field I seriously have no idea why they would be suggested for me. For instance, Pinterest has been under the impression for a really long time now that I am a huge One Direction fan. I have NEVER pinned anything One Direction! I seriously have no idea where this came from! Pinterest also keeps sending me hairstyling tutorials for black women which would be great if I were black, but I am not, I'm a plain old white person and these pins are irrelevant to me. I tried tailoring my suggested pins by liking certain pins so I wouldn't have to keep pinning the same thing but then they took away the like button. Then they started suggesting pins for me that were straight up offensive. This has been happening for several months, and for several months I click on the button of the suggested pin saying this isn't my style, it's irrelevant, etc. but that seems to do nothing because it continues to suggest pins for me that I don't like, sometimes it's pins that I have already said not to send me. As of yesterday it began suggesting pins to me that criticized my faith while simultaneously suggesting pins about my faith. My homepage is currently a blend of bible verses and posts about atheism. Where did this come from? It says "inspired by your recent activity," what recent activity? I went back and looked at my pins looking for anything that I might have posted pertaining to atheism, and there was nothing! There is nothing in my browser history to give any reason to these suggested pins. This is so left field, I seriously have no idea where it came from. Now let me be clear about one thing: If it were someone else's pin that's fine, that doesn't bother me, people can pin whatever they want, it's a free country, I don't care. What bothers me is that Pinterest suggested these pins for me! Based on what? There is nothing in my browser history or recent activity to suggested that I am into these pins. When I tried to say I wasn't interested in these pins they popped right back up on my feed. Finally I had to disable the suggested pins feature. I was disappointed because as I stated before this feature had the potential to be really useful instead it was annoying. I used to get on Pinterest and be really happy because it wasn't like social media, I didn't have to deal with a bunch of negativity and white noise, but with the malfunctioning suggested pins feature I'm left feeling frustrated and upset. Oh and the first time I disabled the feature it didn't work and continued to send me the suggested pins. Also I told this to my friend and she confessed that she was experiencing a similar problem with Pinterest suggesting irrelevant pins for her. Stop with the irrelevant pin suggestions!
-Turn of the suggested pins or else Pinterest will send you completely irrelevant pins claiming that they're based on your recent activity when it has absolutely nothing to do with your recent activity. Weird example: if you absolutely loved the state of Maine or something and you pinned a bunch of stuff about loving Maine, Pinterest is going to suggest pins to you about hating the state of Maine and how it is the most awful place on the planet, that's how screwy the suggested pins are.
Pinterest as a social media site is a joke! They are far from social and here is why. For some reason after 4 years they just up and suspend my account. Nothing has changed with my posting and everything I have done is within their terms. What really ticks me off is the super jerky email they send that lumps all of the offenses into one communication that basically states that I am a scumbag, and I still don't know what the problem actually is. I then sent an appeal stating that I don't understand what happened or why this occurred. Guess what? Another canned and automated email with more abusive communication from Pinterest.com. All that I can say to anyone reading this post is to ditch Pinterest and cancel your account. Quit wasting your time with this platform because you'll end up wasting your man power hours. Once this happens to you you wish you heeded my advice. Pinterest is Anti-Social! #PinterestisAntiSocial
