Stay far away unless you are local! I've been shopping at ross auction buying/reselling for several years, and now since covid-19 has pushed most of the auction to online thru proxibid. I just purchased a complete set of Bowers And Wilkins - DM603 S3 pair of Tower Speakers/pair of bookshelf speaker/ center speaker/and sub on 11/14 2020 lot Number #555 you can check it out thru finished auctions. I paid $625.00 + 18% buyers internet premium $112.00 Plus local tax $56.00 for a total 0f 792.65 Since I'm local I went down to pay and pick up my items I inspected the speakers and found that corners were cracked like the where dropped multiple screw holes on the sides and on the back of the bookshelf speakers these speakers where abused! And the pictures they took showed none of the damage like they where """"Deliberately hiding the damage and nothing in the description"""""" And today 11/18/2020 the owner Thomas contacted me and gave me an option pay for the speakers or you're banned from shopping here " I guess you can decide what I choose "I understand that this a business but i. M in the business of selling good to excellent used merchandise. I can give you soon other examples I purchased a set of marantz 5.1 speaker set back in 2019 brand new in the box ( box was distressed) I couldn't sell them locally or on the internet so took them back to ross and hope they would sell in the next auction. Well they sold for half of what I paid for half is better than nothing ( but the customer that purchased them said they did not work so they refunded his money back and donated the speaker that's what my seller invoice stated) and this was a live auction."""" and I did nothing to these speakers. ****I TOOK THERE WORD THAT THEY WORK******. Another example I purchase a used 2011 imac 27" 1 Tb with 8Gb of ram with keyboard and mouse for a good price And during their live-action they stated they have the password so I can reset it back to factory default setting's *****WELL AS YOU CAN GUESS THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PASSWORD"BUT AT THE END OF THE ACTION THEY DID REDUCE THE PRICE FOR WHAT I PAID. And after getting the new software and installing it I made $40.00 bucks was not worth my time and energy. This is a double standard. Give my money away and force me to purchase damaged goods. If you are an internet buyer thru proxibid stay far far far away from electronics's they due not test the items for functionality or even if it works they just assume from the person that brought the item in?. If your local test the item there to the best of your ability! Or unless you're selling it for parts or for yourself. ***********And one last thing I took about 30 items to sell they put them in a different lot of a month over a long period of time and it took 8 months to receive a check this is no lie***********
Participated in an online auction. Bid on a vehicle which was shown on screen but was not the actual vehicle being auctioned.
I was an online bidder, paddle #*****, on the 3-11-17 Tampa Machinery auction. I bid on and was high bidder for a vehicle shown on the screen to be lot #*****. Two minutes later the same vehicle was on screen up for bid. Thinking they didn't get my bid I bid again and again was high bidder on lot #*****. Looking at the messages on screen I was notified I won a different vehicle, lot #***** which was never shown on my screen and I did not bid on. I immediately contacted the message operator at the auction so they could put the vehicle I DID NOT BID ON back up for auction. I was told to contact the auction company which was facilitating the online service, Proxibid, Inc., which I immediately did. I was told by them to call the auction house directly which I, again, immediately did. I spoke to Theresa, explained the situation and asked her to notify the auctioneer to re-auction lot #***** since that lot was NOT on my screen when I bid. I also told her I DID want to purchase lot #***** which I was winning bidder on. She told me they would have to do a "no sale" at the end of the auction on lot #***** and would discuss if I would be allowed to purchase lot #*****. I told her to go ahead and do a "no sale" on both lot #'s ***** and ***** if that would make it easier. She replied "fine" and hung up. Later that evening I received an invoice from Tampa Machinery for both lot numbers! The following business day I contacted Tampa Machinery, spoke to the owner and explained the situation. I also stated I wanted to take the offer a no sale given to me by his employee, Theresa. He replied all sales are final and I would be banned from bidding in any future Tampa Machinery auctions to which I agreed! I contacted Proxibid to complain and investigate. They stated they could do a metadata search of the auction but COULD NOT determine what was actually on my screen at the time I was bidding.
Subsequently Tampa Machinery filed a complaint with Proxibid. After speaking with Proxibid several times they sided with Tampa Machinery and I have been banned from participating in ALL future online Proxibid sponsored auctions even though I have had NO previous incident in all my years bidding on their website.
I have a time stamped copy of the ongoing on screen messages of this incident. It clearly shows Tampa Machinery going out of numerical sequence which could explain the incorrect vehicle being on screen at the time I was bidding. It also clearly shows my attempt to notify Tampa Machinery and Proxibid, in a timely manner, of their error and adequate time to correct it and re-auction lot #*****.
Instead, Tampa Machinery is being allowed to bully and strong arm me by filing an unfounded complaint with Proxibid for THEIR mistake and lack of policy to re-auction items due to their error.
I know Proxibid has many favorable ratings and that's because most auctioneers are honest. However, issues can arised very simply and for sizable dollars and when they do its buyer beware, you are on your own. As per the following simple and not unordinary transaction via Proxibid, when an issue arose, Proxibid was unwilling to intervene or even attempt to assist on my behalf. I purchased several items for over $800. During the auction via live chat I questioned the specific auctioneer (Omega Auctions) regarding the authenticity. They replied that if they were not as represented they were returnable but shipping was on me. I was good with that. The items arrived and all were fake. For example, while they appeared to have petina, according to a local jeweler the watches all supposedly from late 1800's were cheap reproductions. Then the three supposedly authentic Nazi knives all had "China" stamped on the blades and the supposedly authentic vintage posters were all done via a modern inkjet printer. I called ahead to Omega, was told to return them, did so as advised, then via email and recorded voicemails (proof retained) confirmed that Omega received the items, returned them to the owner and got the money returned to them. Omega, advised me the money would be in my account within days. I have this via e-mail and voicemail. It's thee weeks later and I have yet to see a penny returned to me. The auctioneer (Omega) don't answer their phones any longer. I reached out to Proxibid for help and was told... sorry, you're on your own! My position with Proxibid is that they have direct phone numbers to Omega and have greater influence and leverage over Omega as well as organizations they allow on their site, but they won't even try to help me. They simply state, they only provbider the site or auction platform as the vehicle for buying and selling. It is my opinion that like other similar sites and administrators involved in such transactions by which they receive funds, Proxibid needs to vet these orginzations better to protect their buyers. Additionally that they need to make a good faith effort to try to hold the auctioneers they allow on their site responsible to honor their commitment to the buyers. Like eBay, PayPal, Amazon etc. they need to have recourse built into their agreements with these organizations when such circumstances exist and they will get involved to help both buyers and sellers when a dispute arises. Based on my experience none of this is the case with Proxibid. In fact, according to Proxibid directly, they do not. At this point, I haven't the merchandise nor the refund... I'm on my own!
I'm a user of Proxibid both as a buyer and seller and was compelled to write a review after stumbling upon this page. As with any auction, retail store, business, the buyer or anything else on the internet, the buyer must take precautions. We love Proxibid, so I will give the reader a few tips that I hope you might find useful. First, I would use companies that have the APN logo. This is Auction Payment Network. It's the most secure way that the auction company will hold and process your financial information. I would not use an auction house that doesn't have it. Second, if buying a car or truck do not make a large purchase without a VIN number. If it is not in the description, call and ask for one. Sometimes we don't have one if the entry is late or the consignor hasn't provided all the details yet, and we want to get it online at least, but even (we) recommend that you get that VIN number so you can do a CARFAX before you buy. If you have someone local, send them over to inspect it for you. Ask ask ask questions before bidding. If you don't get answers, do not bid. Need more pictures of something? Ask for them. Another tip, save the photos of the item you are bidding on. Or right after the auction, the items you win. Many auctions like us remove the catalogs after invoicing. We have so many auctions that there are just too many to keep them all up there. This way you have the pictures. Delete them later. Anything seem too good to be true? It might be. Proxibid has a great reputation, so if you see anything that doesn't seem right, give them a call or send them an email. Believe me, the folks there would want to know. Never use the live application on a mobile device. As for pre-bidding, bid with confidence. I can only speak for our auction company, but many times, the online bidder is OUTBID as far as pre-bids go, so winning at your max bid would not be a surprise. Items bring what they are worth. Sometimes great deals, but mostly when you have lots of people online and onsite, the item will bring what it is worth. We like to send out a live message that reads "PreBid is OUT" letting you know each time those max pre-bids are extinguished. Sorry to read all about the lousy experiences. If at anytime we can assist with an online question just check us out, or email us. Even if it isn't about our auction, perhaps we can lend some friendly advice. Just remember, online auctions are not retail. Things (unless announced otherwise) usually do not have a warranty, and are sold as-is where is. If this is not something you are comfortable with, do not bid, or go and bid onsite only where you can see, touch, and inspect the item and feel more confident about the purchase. Again, very sorry to read the horror stories online. The internet should be a better marketplace than that for buyers and sellers. Check out Proxibid again, and look for all those bidder badges. APN, Top Seller, Preferred Partner. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!
Fields Auction-Lake Park, Florida
I think a lot of people misunderstand what Proxibid is. I have only used it twice now but I only used it the first time because I couldn't make it to the local auction Crawfordfamilyauctions.com. There were a couple of rings I wanted to bid on so I used Proxibid and I won, I didn't even pay through Proxibid, I went down to Crawfords and payed and picked up the items.
The second auction was online only from an auction held in California. I bid on two rings and and payed through paypal. Everything went fine.
What I am noticing is that many people are treating Proxibid like it is ebay which it is not. Anyone who has gone into a live auction in person knows how auctions work, that is exactly how this site is. Proxibid is only a host site for the auctions, that is it. The ABC Auction house is having an auction today and they want it available online so they place it on Proxibid.com. If this type of auctioning makes you nervous what I suggest is looking up in the yellowpages auction houses in your local area and go to a few auctions, get the experience of a real auction, not ebay style auctions.
At real auctions some items are consigned and have a minimum price, if it doesn't reach that price it doesn't sell, or the time gets extended based on a request from the owner. When you do purchase an item don't waste your time calling Proxibid, call the auction house and deal with them directly.
Most importantly you need to remember you are bidding against people that are there physically at the auction house.
Good luck people and have fun.
