Very deceptive and sketchy return policy! Beware of this company.

Why can't I give them a ZERO? Don't fall for their positive reviews. Their 5 star ratings are bogus because they give discounts for positive reviews (for a 5 star rating they give 25% off). The items I ordered were total crap- cheaply made and synthetic garbage fabric that fit me like a trash sack. Their sizing is all over the place, not consistent and pretty unpredictable. This wouldn't be such a big problem if exchanges and returns were easier/even possible. I'm not kidding. They make it so hard you will give up before getting a refund. My shipment arrived in three packages, therefore I was unsure if I could still return some of the items based on their stated return policy (only 15 days from receipt of items). Return shipping cost is on the buyer, so I wanted to see if the other items fit before returning so that I wasn't paying for multiple returns. But their customer service is dodgy af and, I believe, intentionally difficult so that you miss the 15 day return window. You have to email them to get permission to return items, and when I did, they responded by asking me to send my measurements. When I said I just wanted to return the items, they suggested I look at other items on their website. Then they referred me to their return policy (which I was emailing to get clarification on). Then they sent me the return address (which I already had), and which I wanted confirmation about (if my return would be refunded if I spent the considerable money to return it). FYI, you can't just send items back, it has to be sent via a very specific and costly way. When I replied asking if my return would qualify for a refund (since it had been more than 15 days), their customer service responded "we have provided you with a return address on September 5th, but you have not returned the goods, now is September 13th. At this time, your order is no longer within the return period." September 5 plus 15 days is September 20... Just saying. They have not responded to my last email, their website phone number is some poor guy who must hate getting all of their calls (it's def not Retro Stage), several of my emails have gotten an "out of office" reply and it took days to hear back. Like another reviewer who sent her items back and never got her refund, I would say, please be very careful when ordering. You may be stuck with crappy dresses that don't fit and extreme frustration from dealing with this company.

Terrible - DO NOT BUY FROM THEM

UPDATE AS OF 4/19/23 -
These crooks are ridiculous and very ballsy. If you see my post below, "Candy" had responded that I will be issued a refund. What a f****ing LIE! I got an email stating that I will NOT be receiving a refund. I responded quite angrily and then TODAY (4/19/23) I get another email message from "Candy" stating that the package was delivered and therefore there is no refund. WTF is that all about! I responded back. Now they have 'edited' their response below saying I have to come up with video of my package not being delivered or stolen and show proof that I don't have it?! Should I take pictures of my closet?! They say they are "powerless" as to what they can do?! Can't wait to see what the response is. It is so disgraceful to see a company say they will refund you on these review sites to save face and then turn around and tell you that they won't. What a dishonest company. The nerve! The item I purchased was ordered on January 3rd to hopefully get it by the end of the month, which never happened. Then told it is not in stock - but they took my money anyway. Then Waited all through February and part March for this thing to arrive and then it doesn't. I bet the information below is false as I have read other reviews of others having trouble with the same thing. They say below they are willing to work with me and have made their best effort to help me... really? This company has absolutely not made any kind of effort except blame me for this but telling me I put the wrong address, having me file a claim when the carrier says they should be the ones to do so since they sent it and all I am asking from this is my refund that totaled about $70.00. I doubt this will leave the company bankrupt. I will continue to update!

APRIL 13TH REVIEW
I ordered a jumpsuit via FB, saw that their company ships from California - lie, it's actually China. I discovered this only after I ordered. I purchased the item Jan. 3,2023 and waited a month to reach out to them to find out when I would be getting my item. They email me back telling me the the item is out of stock but will send it to me once it comes in to their warehouse...in China. I purchased the item for an event in late January but the day came and went...so did February. I reached out again and again asking for updates and all they can tell me is that the item was not in stock. I began to request for it to be cancelled and ask for a refund... Here comes the month of March... late March... they tell me that the package was delivered. I didn't receive anything. Today is April 13 and they keep going back and forth with me telling me I must have put the wrong address and that I should be going to the carrier to file a claim myself because they will not refund me. The carrier told me they were not responsible for lost or stolen items and they (RetroStage) should be the ones to file the claim. I told them this and all they can say is that I have to file the claim and they will not provide me with a refund. They did offer to send me another jumpsuit but I declined because it's now April and I have no need for it and I do not want the item anymore and all I want is a refund. I paid about or close to $70.00 for an item I never received. They still keep saying that they won't issue a refund to me. A BUNCH OF CROOKS. DON'T BUY FROM THEM.

UPDATE AS OF 4/18/23
We continue to go back and forth on this. I have continually explained that the American carrier has no responsibility for a lost or stolen item and I am not able to open a claim. Their suggestion was that I should go back and contact the company and they open a claim because they sent me the package. All this company can do is tell me to open a claim and say they cannot refund me. Some customer person service person by the name of 'Candy' was no help at all. Just saying the same thing over and over again to me as if I'm going to just go away. I'm not. I wish I could send all my correspondence of what has transpired via email because you can't get anyone on the phone because everyone is sleeping right now in China. Don't buy from them. You will be sorry.

Their response below says they will be issuing me a refund - HA! I'll believe it when I see it! And they claim it will take 3 to 5 days, faster than what the item I purchased was to arrive. I got a message this morning that will not refund me so I will update this accordingly. I have also been offered a discount on another purchase - I will never purchase anything from Retro-Stage. I have learned my lesson from shopping from a Facebook ad. The saga continues.

"Candy" stated below that I will be getting a refund, only to see a private email message from "Candy" saying I will NOT be issued a refund. So which is it? What should I believe? This is ridiculous. They are quick to take your money but no help at all. And Candy... since you respond to these messages, you should find another career. I would hate to represent such a company that does business like you do.

Tip for consumers:

Do not buy from them what so ever. They are not a company from California like their website claims. It all comes from China.

I ordered the "Black 1950s Plaid Swing Dress" - it is actually a houndstooth print, and I also bought the long black petticoat. I love it, it fits perfectly and looks just like the picture - but I think the petticoat is really necessary to properly pull of a swing dress. I also think the quality of the dress is as one should expect, no defects, looks like picture, etc.

Whenever I order clothing I alwayd look at the size chart because sizes are never the same for all makers. I never look at the ones that show US equivalent sizes (I'm from the US) - because AGAIN, clothing isnt the same for all makers.

USE your CURRENT body measurements (bust, waist, hip) - and out of those measurements go with the largest one. Example: my hips measured at their size XXL, my waist at their size L, and my bust at their size XL -- I chose the XXL because then it wiuldnt be tight in any of the areas. When I say current measurement, I mean, tae your measurements before you click on a size. Your body measurements can change over just a few months so you want recent.

Their site said it would take 10-15 business days to ship (that means you dont count weekends) - it arrived here on the 10th business day - so shipping was just as they said.

The dress and petticoat both go just below my knees (I am 5'3"). The dress material was a bit stiff, felt like they starched it - I think it'll be less stiff after I wash it a couple times. The fabric of the dress is a little bi stretchy, so I probably could have gone with the XL but I didnt want a tight fit.

I emailed them a question about proper care, they replied promptly in the next business day and answered my question.

Overall I love my dress, its just as advertised and the shipping was as expected. I will be buying more dresses in the future.

Tip for consumers:

Make sure to look at the measurement on the size chart and compare your measurements - the sizes appear to be asian sizes, so if you are typically an XL in the US, these clothes will likely not fit you.

SCAM! Worst online shopping ever! I lost money from this!

Absolutely the WORST online shopping experience I've ever had. I was really excited to order a dress from them, so I paid. It's a shopify store, and I don't know if it's a scam with dropshipped cheap products from China or not. 30 days passed, no shipping notifications. I HAD TO EMAIL Retro Stage back to remind them to ship the products to me!

Email read:

Dear customer, Thanks for your reply. This is Linda from Customer service Dept. Checked for you, we are sorry to tell you that the item "1950s Ruffles Petticoat Underskirt - One Size / Gray " what you ordered is out of stock temporary. Would you mind waiting for a few days? Please don't worry, we will arrange the shipment for you once there is in stock. Thank you. Yours Sincerely, Linda Kuang Customer Service Department

The website states that the business in California, but THIS IS NOT TRUE. I received all my emails from them at times passed 8:00pm California time, so clearly they're working out of India or China. And the emails seem like they don't speak very good English. The dress FINALLY came in, and it's the worst quality of dress I've ever gotten. I'm 120lbs 5'6 female, and I got the smallest size that was supposed to be US size 4. I'm normally a size 4, but this dress was way too big. The belt that came with it was even bigger, it didn't even stay on me. And the material was VERY CHEAP. There was frays, and the pictures shown on the website might actually be taken from third-party websites. So the I emailed them back, told them about the wrong sizing and that I wanted to return. They said I would have to pay for return shipping, and when I calculated the cost the return price was $60. So for me to get a different size, or even have a chance at getting my money back, I had to pay the full price of the dress. Then I replied with:

Return shipping is over $60CAD for me. There's no way you will pay for this? I have to say I've been extremely disappointing with the customer service at Retro Stage. When I placed my order, over a month went by and I heard nothing about the product being shipped. I had to email customer service to even get it shipped. Which means I missed the event this dress was intended for. Then when I get it in the mail, the sizing is way too big, and the quality of product is very poor. They are over 8 places on the dress where the material is already fraying and the material is very cheap. Also, I matched my sizing to the smallest size on the sizing chart (a small), and it's way too big for me and the belt is even larger. I would like more of a refund please, or I'm going to be leaving some terrible reviews on third party websites.

And "Bree" replied with:

And I replied yes. Cause getting $15 from an $80 purchase is really worth it. THANKS RETRO STAGE. Anyways, very furious about this company and I wanted to warn you before you go shopping online here. Expect to not receive your dress for many months, and difficult returns, and sketchy customer service, and cheap and incorrectly sized products!
