Only giving 1 start since it's required because they deserve no stars.
My dog was no being watched by the sitter and ingested 2 large items. If he was being watched and not left alone this could've been prevented. Now I am stuck with a 10k vet bill. Rover stated it was a pre existing condition but 4 different veterinarians stated it was not. Will not recommend this company or app to anyone.
We had booked online thru rover a sitter for out dogs. We made arrangements and paid for the booking thru rover, we met the sitter the week prior to make sure we we were comfortable. When the day came that we were leaving, Arlene from Nanaimo messaged is at 6am and said her truck broke down and we would need to drop the dogs off(which wasn't a problem). When we tried to message her no response when we called her no response, she didn't respond and ignored our calls! We had booked and paid for a this service and were stood up at the last minute. We would advise to be very very careful and to make sure you have a back up plan as this service is so unreliable and we are now out $230 dollars. We are dissapointed and will never use again.
In July as a result of the Rover Pet sitter, my home was broken into by her friend while caring for my dog. He then emptied the contents of my refrigerator covering my kitchen floor & expensive antique rug (ruined). He destroyed my son's room, broke my printer, urinated and defecated (#2) on my kitchen floor. The trauma is still impacting my dog and terrified my son. The sitter's friend was recently arrested for this and assault on a female. Rover settled a portion of my claim but refused to settle the balance. I strongly recommend against ever using Rover, and they did not do everything needed to remedy the terror and destruction on my home.
I was at the Mayo Clinic for cancer surgery. I used Rover for one night. The sitter drugged my dog. When I got him back, he was lethargic. She had great ratings too. Don't ever trust that app!
I left for our camping trip a day earlier than my wife. My wife dropped our dog off at the sitters home, everything was fine. My wife was 1.5 hours into her drive to start our camping trip. She got a call from the sitter who said our dog had bit her. She said he had to come get him. So my wife turned around drove back her home where she explained that she was giving treats to the dogs and that our dog bit her while going for the treat. I was promised a refund which I never received. I'm not placing blame, just remember your vacation is one call from being ruined.
I probably should have read the reviews before using the services of Rover.com. Their website claims 24 hour support if any issues come up. That is simply not true. They have an automated system that loops you back around with automated responses. I had to wait more than 20 hours for an email response that did not even get my issue correct. The pet sitter I hired through their site cancelled on short notice and I was left up in the air with NO sitter. Their customer service could not have cared less. No referrals to back up options, no empathy for me or my pet, and no direct human contact. Only vague emails directing me to use their website. This company does not give a $#*! about the people or animals they claim to care so much about. Simply put, way too many other options out there to put your pet's health and safety into Rovers hands. Please do not utilize any of their misrepresented services.
I have has the worst luck with most of the petsitters that I have used. Two of the lockked my little dog (now gone) is a small room or hallway. Antother must have medicated my bloodhound -shepard mix because when I picked him up he could barely walk I had to lift him into my truck and he did not seem to recognize me. I was going to bring him to the emergency room but he came out of it in a few hours. She must have sedated him with something. He was the biggest dog in her house but he never bothers another dog. I now bring him to a professional facility and he is always the same dog when I pick him up.Another dog walker let him off leash in my neighborhood This is a 92 lb dog. She had absolutely no common sense. So beware when you leave a pet at someones house you don't know what they are going to do with the pet. Very scary.
This sitter made two attempts for me to contact him outside of River. The first attempt I ignored and the second attempt I agreed upon after he changed his pricing. I had to contact him over and over again to see if he was even there with my dogs. No updates were given. We have a puppy cam which thankfully captured how he really treated our dogs. The second day we were out of town I reached out to him to see if he was at our home and informed me that his tired had blown. This meant he had not been to my house in 8 hours. We booked him for house/dog sitting.
More Info below of what we sent him/what happened…
1. You did not go by the schedule we provided and agreed upon. Instead you came and went as you pleased without updating us of your arrival unless I messaged you first.
2. Yes the pup cam did work and I am home looking at the footage of you using my husbands game system without permission, going into our bedroom without permission, picking baby doll up backwards and basically dropping her when she wanted to get down.
3. The times you said you were there with them you were not.
4. We had to drive 9 hours back home rushed because you did not provide a service even prior to your tire supposedly blowing.
5. You did not take Ben for walks and you did not give them treats (we were very surprised at the unopened bag of carrots left for them in the fridge).
We would definitely like the full refund we agreed upon.
Even though we cannot provide a review on your account because you persuaded us to book outside of the app, something I had second thoughts about when you suggested, we will be contacting Rover and reviewing your service on the entire Rover app.
Hopefully you provide EXCEPTIONAL service to the next family who hires you and the 5 stars you consistently received never had to see how you truly treat their four legged family members.
Dealing with Rovers Trust and safety team is neither of those things. My dog was injured because of the sitter's incompetence. She never apologized and actually said it's not her fault. Over 6 phone calls and both the sitter are refusing to help pay the vet bill they caused. Rover said since this is under $250 it's my responsibility unless the sitter decides to help. Please use a better option than this!also they are refusing to refund the actual visit which is even more frustrating.
Rover did NOT value me or protect me after a crazy woman threatened me. This woman lied to me. She added a dog without telling me. She added two cats without telling me. She didn't pay for any of the extra pets. She then asked me to take care of her CHICKENS!
She left simple feeding instructions and I followed them to a T! She has had no notes about the pets on her page. She has a dog door and allowed the dogs to go in and out as they pleased. There was standing water all over the backyard. There was dog and chicken poop all over the backyard.
The extra dog was aggressive and scary. I was afraid of it. I thought it was going to bite me. I didn't feel safe with this dog. This is the same dog that apparently ate something outside that made him sick. It has NOTHING to with me. This woman verbally abused me. She threatened me. She yelled at me. I was afraid for my safety.
I blocked her and reached out to you for help. Then she was allowed to post a review that tarnishes my name and was completely false.
I am not looking for special treatment but this woman blatantly lied about me. This is NOT acceptable!

This was the second time we used Rover.
First Time: The woman gave my pet the wrong food, and he passed away 3 months later. He was a medical cat. My lessons learned were that I went with a cheap sitter and probably did not look for reviews as much as I should have.
Second Time: This was just last week while we were on the other side of the nation. I had three walkthroughs with this person, he had plenty of great reviews. I come back to a house where my window sill was broken, my pets did not have water, my dog was crated most of the time, and worst of all: There was evidence of drug usage in my home. My car also seemed like it had been driven, and my pets were not very happy.
I am very sad about this service. I have spent both times really doing my due dilligence with trying to provide proof of these incidents, and they always come back with a generic message saying they essentially will do nothing and do not care. How can a pet service be this way? I trusted this for the last time. Thanks for making my financial status and home status worse with trusting your service. You are bad people.
I hired a cat sitter to feed, water, play with and empty my cats litter.
The slotted time was 30 minutes and she was there TWO minutes.
I reached out to Rover and initially they were responsive asking for details. Once provided they have completely ghosted me. I've emailed twice in response asking for what they're going to do to correct the situation and I created an entirely new case a week ago. No response to any of them. They could obviously care less about their customers.
Due to foot pain, I looked into hiring a dog walker to walk my dog. I ended up trying 3 different walkers. One was fine. One went to the wrong house initially (!), and one never even showed up, and didn't even have the courtesy to contact me. I left a bad review and don't even see my review under his profile. So people are going to book him despite his unprofessionalism! I booked him because he had good reviews and repeat clients, but who knows how many bad reviews there are that rover isn't showing! I also don't think either of the other 2 dog walkers picked up dog poop as they didn't have poop bags to dispose of in my garbage bin after the walks.
As for rover, will not be using them again! First of all, you are charged when you make a booking. So if the walker/sitter does not show up, you were still charged and will have to wait to be refunded! You should only be charged upon completion of the service.
Customer support is horrible. The help system makes you jump through hoops with generic questions, and good luck if none of them applies to your issue. They really want you to click on their canned answers no matter what, before you can actually describe your problem.
I'm 29, good with tech, use tech in my job etc. and this website was IMPOSSIBLE to navigate. Things are placed in such odd places and I can barely even sign in half the time. When you click on "sign in" on one of the pages it keeps promoting you to find a sitter. Not everything can be done on the app so FIX THE WEBSITE.
Although I didn't use them weekly, service was not consistent. My dog would meet a walker once and the next time that person was no longer working there. If I book someone for a vacation (to walk my dog once a day from home) and two weeks before and they cancel. Really sucks. Canceled my ABB and lost a lot of money. Not good.
I have been a Rover for 3.5 years. Recently my cat was attacked by a dog I was sitting. The owner indicated their dog gets along with cats however it clearly didn't. Rover refused to honor the guarantee until AFTER I had taken my cat to the vet and racked up hundreds. They then choose to pay or not pay. They reached out to the owner to get them to pay. That is clearly NOT what they they state in writing.
I would rate negative stars but that's not an option. The day before our vacation the sitter, Terry, called to say there is a problem with one of the days. When we told her that was not acceptable she tried to charge us more. We said we could not afford that and she said then we should cancel. Because it is the day before rover won't refund the full amount unless she approves it. There site is set up for these people to extort money or leave you high and dry with your pets.
I booked a dog/house sitter I had used once before, and she was great. This time the sitter had a massive drunken rager at my house. My hot tub had some unknown content and had to be drained and cleaned. My dining room chair destroyed, stains on my couch, custom mounted TV had wires falling out, vomit in my driveway. She ate my food and drank all of the drinks in my refrigerator. The house was filthy and disgusting. My poor dogs water hadn't been changed. I have tape from 1:59 am of them partying. Overall, $1,000 worth of damage.
I apparently booked through the rover phone assigned to this person, so was it was not through there platform. They refused any liability.
I was looking after a dog that became extremely agitated, so I called the customer service to get some help and she suggested to turn on the TV. I am full of bruises and scratches. What is the point of having a customer service if she's just going to Google any random thing.
This is the second time. The first time I used them I had a lady come to my house specifically to make sure my dog was walked many times a day. I paid three times the other sitters, hoping I would get good service. I think she maybe took him out once a day, and arrived at my house with a cold.
I thought I'd try again. Just booked Destiney D...to take care of our 5 mo old puppy...OMG...she was hired and paid well to come at noon and at 5. Well, we had a camera. She took the check and she came only at 5. The puppy had an accident. I told her I knew she never showed up earlier. She said oh sorry she had a flat tire. I said so you don't call the owners and tell them? So we could get backup for the poor puppy alone? You work for a company and say because you care about dogs so much. But you would act like you came and never did and I caught you. DONT USE ROVER. They hire anybody! AND just because they do a BK check, doesn't mean these are good honest people, with integrity. Our poor puppy! Probably traumatized forever. DONT USE ROVER!

Answer: Call 18887271140 and even though it seems it is only for their sitters, don't be fooled, go ahead with the process and keep track of who you talk to. Make sure you have an email on file with them, that's usually what they ask for first.
Answer: 888-727-1140 is the main numbe to call. Hang out until you talk to the right person.
