I have been using rover for several years. First off, the app itself has a lot of glitches. Then they have changed the payout method multiple times which also has caused me multiple problems and lack of access to funds. I have had to open new bank accounts and use new paymebt platforms just to get my funds. I currently am out $600 of work that I did because they changed their policies and won't accept a joint or business bank account, so gotta go open a new account. The security precautions don't seem to be geared towards protecting sitters or owners. I got bit by a dog that I was sitting and they wouldn't pay out—it only applies to owners and their pets/homes. The fees they charge don't equate to what you get out of the site, not to mention that is the cap of the deduction for taxes. I've found more clients off site and I can claim all deductions without the high rover fees. Stay away from rover, it's a scam and it won't protect owners or especially sitters. There are so many articles about problems with rover. All these changes seem to protect rover from liability but owners and sitters carry the full liability.
We felt that we had been taking advantage of friends by leaving our dogs with them on a couple of recent trips so we tried to use Rover.com. We found two five star sitters (highly recommended individuals. We set up interviews with both. The first a woman of about 25 came over to OUR home, and we gave her the information regarding our 3 day trip. Her fee was going to be $330, but at the end of her visit she said that she would advise Rover that the fee would be $75 and we should pay the difference to her in cash. The result was if she was going to cheat Rover, what could we expect in terms of the care she would offer our dogs. Remember she now has our address and knows when we will be gone. The back up was scheduled for an interview 5 days later which was only four days before our departure. She did not have transportation on the scheduled day but suggested she could Uber over the following day. It occurred to us that she may not be able to get to our home on our day of departure. We said not to bother. I called the Rover support line and told them what the issues were. The representative named Alyssa said my name was not registered as the client so I could not file complaints. My significant other is the potential client so this is true. I cannot recommend Rover as a legitimate option for house or dog sitting. They cannot be trusted
I hired a Rover to watch my dogs while my family went out of the country. She was supposed to be able to give injections as well as other medications. When I came back she had totally rearranged my kitchen without my permission, the dogs were stressed out and uncared for. She took my house key and didn't return it. I had to change my locks. She threw away generational recipes and when I asked where the dogs medicine was and other things she I was an EVIL INGRATE and blocked me.
Their services totally suck, keep looking don't trust your beloved pet with them, completely unreliable.
I cannot believe most of these reviews, sorry. I have built up a nice clientele through Rover due to my genuine love of animals, and my professional approach. Sitting for pets is very therapeutic for me since I have lost the last of mine 2 years ago. I treat each and every one of them like my own. I would never do anything to put one in harm's way. I only take 2 at a time to ensure their safety and to properly care for them. I have had owners lie to me about their pets, and have had my house destroyed a few times, but I put that on people being inconsiderate. Not the animals. I take precautions now, stock diapers and make sure I have lots of toys for them to chew on. Rover does take 15% of the fees, and I haven't had any issues where I had to deal with them yet. I hope I never do. But it is a great resource for people who do their homework, take advantage of the Meet and Greets, and be selective WHO you leave your precious furbaby with. I scroll the other sitters from time to time, and I can tell you there are some I wouldn't trust at all. It's a scary world out there, but protect yourself, go with your gut.
You are warned. Rover does NOT I repeat NOT IN ANY WAY takes any responsibility or liability if anything happens to you! If you agree to walk or watch a dog and it attacks you, you are on your own! It's in their rules and agreement. It is NOT WORTH THE RISK for the money you make! You are warned! I had to learn the hard way.
Do not leave your dog with rover, I guarantee they will lose your dog, not pay for vet bills or the loss of your dog.
Their sitter closed the door to my cat's litter box and left for 12 hours, the cats then peed on my bed, and rover not only would not assist with damages but would not even refund the check in.
After my two dogs passed away due to an old age I was ready to help other dogs's owners. Set up my profile, and nothing… contacted Rover several times since my friends could not find me on Rover. Rover staff wrote back that they put dog sitters in clusters and can't do anything about it. If my neighbor would like to use my help and look for me on Rover he will not be able to find me but will get dog sitters miles away from our location. Absolutely disappointing…Don't recommend Rover at all, poor customer service and manipulative search engine.
I booked with Janessa then she slaps on extra fees and insurance which is not mentioned anywhere in the ad, Just 35,00 per hour it went from 280 to 430. Was not impressed then she tells me I am not a fit for her services...REALLY! Would not call her again be cautious when booking deceptive add ons.
They stole my informationand charged by credit card. They refused to help. They claimed their fraud department "doesn't do phone calls." They are the least honest and least reliable company in America. Please go somewhere else! Anywhere!
Please be aware of this sitter( diann Colton)
She will give you her number then agree on a price last day try to scan you for more //negligence on how she takes care of your pet and when it was time to get my service dog back she dropped him off the humane society very unprofessional not qualify if I could give a -10 stars I would
We had an issue with both our pet sitter and Rover. When we confronted our pet sitter because they took actions that made us seriously worry about the safety of our pets and home, they became defensive and accusatory toward us. When we stood our ground, the pet sitter quit and made a false claim to Rover, so we would be unable to find a replacement sitter, and Rover closed our account. We were only refunded for the days the pet sitter did not work.
I had two "Meet & Greets" with different dog sitters for my dog. I started the search in January for my vacation in May. I liked both & told them I would be making a decision within two weeks of my meeting with them. They both said not to worry. The one I met on 1/21/23 told me "Don't worry about making your decision I'll hold your spot". I told her I would get back to her the next weekend. I reached out on 1/29 & she gave my spot to someone else & lied telling me that she told me that she never said that. So I reached out to the other one, my second choice. It took 5 emails to get her to respond. When she finally did, she says "Sorry I've decided to start working so I won't be able to watch your dog". She should have updated her profile to say that! If they aren't going to keep their word or be available, then this site is worthless. The sitters aren't trustworthy & who cares if they have to do a background check. If I could give them Zero stars I would! BOO to Rover!
I've had a few horrible experiences dog sitting for rover but my most recent has literally made me delete my account! I dealt with an awful poorly behaved aggressive dog and the owners were even worse! They were so mad that I told them they need to come get their dog that they left me a awful disgusting false review and harrassed me through rover! I had proof of this and that they had lied! I deleted my rover account because rover did NOTHING they refused to help and actually got mad that I asked them to look into this! HORRIBLE COMPANY! *

I have had multiple issues with Rover. I had one instance where a walker had a physical altercation with someone in my building which had multiple witnesses. I reached out to Rover and they recommended that I reach out to talk with him when I told them that I was afraid for my safety to do so. The final straw was that there was an emergency situation with my dog and a dog sitter and their emergency line did NOT work. No one answered and I had to resolve the emergency myself from states away.
I've been using Rover for daily drop-in visits for my puppy for the past 9 months. In that time, I've had 5 different sitters, all who have eventually flaked out for various reasons. Most failed to follow basic instructions, left doors open and unlocked, and/or filled my garbage can with fast food wrappers daily.
Countless other sitters who show up as "available" when I search tell me they are not, in fact, available for the type of visit I searched for.
People who sign up to work through Rover typically can't hold any other type of job, so don't expect quality or reliability.
It's been over 2 months since signing up and my acct still hasn't been approved. Would like to care for folks pets/ walk them as a pt gig. Took my money and nothing. No update... Nothing
If you want an unreliable business who cancels last minute and then refuses to give you your money back when the sitter cancelled on you then I would use this company. But for your sanity and bank account find someone somewhere else to help with your pets
