You can find some legit gigs on here, but you have to be careful because there are a lot of scams. I've started using prodigitalnetwork.com, which I like because it is solely based out of the US. You don't have to worry about being out bided by someone in a different country, plus it's just a clearer site. Less is more.
In November 2016, I heard about Upwork first time and joined. Even though, It was long way to get hired on my first project in Feb 2020, I am very grateful for everything that Upwork provides me as opportunities.
Firstly, I am getting paid higher than my local jobs by advertising myself in high-income regions of the world.
Secondly, I am very happy to work with my favorite coffee shop.
Third, I really believe that It is the most important to have experience in order to get hired and deliver great projects on Upwork. Freelancers really need to know what they organizations need related to their industry. But, at the end of everything, the only thing that will make me odd on Upwork would be my specialty, skillsets combining with my experience and motivated mindset to tackle the rigorous project.
I am very grateful that Upwork is being a part of my life.
I work as a freelancer since April 2016, and it's amazing how Upwork can help connect clients and freelancers on projects. It's not always simple to find a project as a freelancer, but it has nothing to do with Upwork, it has to do with the way we market our skills. That's where Upwork helps a lot as well - with the new catalog function and the new Upwork interface, it is done in a few clicks. The Connect system is fair compared to other platform where the membership is expensive. It is secure. The support team is always here to help if necessary. Well - give it a try, and you'll catch what I mean.
Upwork gave me hope when I had my first client. Being a full time mom who left the corporate world, I searched for wfh set up that will allow me to help my husband finance our everyday expenses without having the necessity to leave our home! A kind of relief, indeed!
When the pandemic came due to Covid lots of individuals all over the world has the experience to be jobless. Because many establishments shut down their business and can't longer manage it due to the financial effect that Covid brings in our society until even right now. Upwork is one of the main bridges to millions of talent who is believing that they can have a job despite what happened to us.
I am middle-size company director and I hired near 100 freelancers on upwork.com to do my projects. One day when I had to review job & pay, I received message from upwork that I "send too much private messages", and that I am locked to send more ones. By theirs own rules, I have to use theirs private messages and not email or Skype to communicate with freelancers, and now they say that I use too much messages... are they crazy? I could not to contact people and pay them money, so near 100 freelancers didn't receive theirs money because of upwork crazy rules. The for sure don't need big clients who honestly hire freelancers and don't propose to speak via email and pay via PayPal. They prefer actually to force me to not use theirs expensive internal payment and theirs buggy messages and to work with freelancers directly.
I have a lot to thank Upwork for. The platform gave me a great foundation to start my business. I still use the platform to receive project requests, some of which are irrelevant, some of which are exciting, and a lot in the middle.
I appreciate it doesn't work for everyone, but it certainly worked for me. After one year, I now rank as one of the most reputable freelancers in my industry.
I've been using Upwork for a few months and I'm enjoying the work I am getting through them. The set-up is great, from bidding for work, to getting paid. No issues or problems at all! I'm free to choose how many hours I want to work, so its really flexible too. I also love it that I'm connecting with people around the world through the work I'm getting.
Great Experience with upwork clients as hourly and also fixed price jobs. I advise to new freelancers to recommend Upwork it's better and
Co-operative cs dept for freelance service providers
Thanks Again
Upwork hires criminals. I discovered this when I found that one of their freelancers has 3 convictions of violent crimes. UpWork responded that they do not discriminate and what a freelancer does with their personal time is not their business. However, some freelancers meet face-to-face and could be using Upwork to cause harm or commit more crimes. UpWork has no idea if any of the freelancers they "connect" with others are violent offenders, predators, sex offenders, pedophiles, etc. because they feel they have no duty to let you know this information.
I would never recommend them.
I hire a freelancer with very good skill, i invest $5490 to get my website done for company, but suddenly the person disappear and i cant get my payment back, upwork saying the freelancer account suspended and now i m in middle of work,:(
Very bad support
Very bad company, care dont put large amount on them
This site is now charging Freelancers 3 times as much to bid on a job. I have bid on 62 jobs in the past month and the only ones that respond are scammers that want me to work for free or people who disappear before they hire you. Upwork you are scamming your customers and we have a choice. Indeed.com and Zip Recruiter, along with Linked In.
Scam site.
Want to give minus points to upwork. Tried everything. But they have created a mindset they they won't allow the new creative people to enter on upwork site. And thats really shamful... they are no one to say the freelancers that we are somewhere less from other freelancers working on upwork. You haven't even checked yet so how come u can justify anyone form by simply seeing the skills.
I started working on Upwork, starting from its oDesk days. I have worked on the site for the past 5 years mainly as a translator, but also on other projects as well. It is a very good site for freelancers, with reputable clients, comforting Escrow method and payment protection policies. The website is also easy to maneuver through unlike some others where it gets very complicated you just don't want to start working there.
I joined Upwork a few months ago and from that time I am getting continuous work. Upwrork is the best professional platform where the professionals having any skills can grow as much as they want but the only condition is that they should be consistent, professional and honest to their job.
At the end I'd say I love Upwork, since it has changed my life.
Thank you Upwork team!
Upwork is a colossal predatory business. I've been on the platform for 4 years and saw business practices and treatments that only the worst of corporate monopolies can get away with. Especially after upwork swallowed Elance which was head and shoulders better.
Contractors are screwed with high commission fees which DOUBLED last year and a rating system which forces contractors to constantly drum up new business for these corporate bastards just to keep their 5 star rating which is NOT based on actual performance but also on how much business you constantly bring in to upwork. So you can do flawless work and still get penalized.
Then there is the notoriously bad and unresponsive customer service were you deal with $1/hr robotic contractors from India who show absolute disdain and lack of care when dealing with contractor issues.
If you are a self employed freelancer or a small business offering services, unless you enjoy being a mistreated slave don't just avoid upwork RUN!
I registered with Elance since July 2014 and I only started working on April 2015. I'm thankful that since then, I get lots of transcription jobs, paid well and on-time. I never had any issues with any of my clients.
My tips are: 1) Never accept job without contracts or funded by escrow. 2) always keep an open communication with your client prior to accepting jobs.
Its a great platform for explore self into entire world. I am highly recommended, because its always check your Real time Activity, Strong Payment Term specially for Freelancer. 90% of client has satisfied of work whose giving his best on work and communication. This platform save my life and my family is so happy with this because i need work and client need satisfaction so we are stay on smoothly.
Today quote for all newbies developer: Patience when not one work comes to you, because there so many great developer on-boarding and client don't know which is the best for his/her job, So always login with joy and with positive energy.
Thanks
RJ
I am being treated horribly by Upwork on their Facebook site as well as support. No one helps me with what I need help with, especially when a client lied so they wouldn't have to pay me. And now their Facebook site keeps deleting my posts because I'm speaking the truth. Such a shame. I'm telling all my friends not to join this site for freelance.
I had joined in Upwork in hopes of learning new skills and create a career out of it. Well, it wasn't in vain because I have scored few projects and I am still working on some of them. It is really a great platform to learn, to work for companies and clients worldwide without leaving your room and to earn a good amount of money. There are over ******* jobs posted and it makes the probability of getting a project high. I'd encourage everyone to join Upwork, whether they have some extra time to work or full time, everyone is welcome there!
Answer: They are horrible. Every freelancer I've gotten from Upwork has cost me more to fix the small job they have done. There's absolutely no customer service! I would stay away
Answer: This is not the place to inquire.
Answer: No, just 20% of your job when we talk about fixed price, and same for hourly but after some week it's been 10%
Answer: Go to Settings › Contact Info › Click the Close my account link. If you meet the requirements, click the button to confirm that you want to close your account.
Answer: I am a customer and have had a really horrible experience. Upwork claims a 100% guarantee before you pay anything. That is not true. The process is actually quite horrible. You put money in escrow. You only get your money back after a bad contract if the freelancer agrees to release the money. If the freelancer refuses, you get a bargain offer to still pay them something but still you are paying for a bad job you can't use. Then, if you refuse to bargain over a bad job, you are told that it will cost you an additional $389 to arbitrate with a 3rd party affiliate that the customer (me), the freelancer (scammer) and Upwork (ripoff enabler) has to pay. I took it all the way to arbitration with the end result being that Upwork decided that I was just too uninformed to know their policy and that they would give me a one time only refund of my original amount. What they didn't tell me what that they just gave me a "credit" of my original amount and that was the end. So I am still out the original amount and can't get my money back. This sight is a ripoff. Plain and simple.
Answer: Because of their policy changes which are geared towards the client rather than the freelancer. They have dug their own grave with their policy changes of late.
Answer: Go to Get Paid on PC or Mobile, you will see 3 dots in front of your payment method, tap to select edit/remove to change them. Go to Billing Method on PC under Billing Section and tap three dots to change (edit/remove). Thanks
Answer: Be part and see, dont look at the sold mine reviews people, upwork can bush you to reach.
Answer: I agree with Sam. This place is a scam. They have bad reviews everywhere. Katrina is probably working for them!
Upwork has a rating of 2.3 stars from 2,122 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Upwork most frequently mention customer service, credit card and job success. Upwork ranks 7th among Freelancing sites.
