My experience with Upwork has been fascinating and it just keeps getting better. I love the exposure you get and the variety of people looking for services on Upwork. Their payment procedures are the safest, and how cool is a team that supports you by warning you of any fishy attempts of the opposite party (aka the clients) trying to move the conversation or payment outside of Upwork. It is like working but under the supervision of a dear friend or a wellwisher. Upwork has got your back every time. They have their own messaging, video call, and screen share options that you do not need to take your conversation elsewhere. And the time tracking software, fro pc., is the best. It achieves the same purpose as CCTV cams do in workspaces.
Yes, Upwork might charge a big commission on all my earnings, but the protection and ease I get in return are worth it. Also, the necessity of linking a bank account to the Upwork profile, makes it classified, keeping all the unprofessional filtered out, already ensuring good quality service, thus attracting Sophisticated clients.
I recommend all my peers to get signed up with Upwork, even the ones with full-time real-world jobs because those are not certain.

Your Upwork account has been suspended
Avatar Dom L 05/03/2017
Hello Ivan,
We are contacting you to let you know we have suspended your access to Upwork indefinitely.
Our decision is based on a careful review and the fact that you have submitted a high number of proposals for jobs on our site without many contracts or earnings. Unfortunately, this means the jobs posted by clients are not a good match for your skills.
I know this news is likely disappointing to you. But our goal at Upwork is to enable freelancers to successfully connect and collaborate with clients who need their skills and expertise. Unfortunately, this means we must part ways with freelancers whose skills are not in demand in our marketplace.
If you want to appeal this decision, you can email us at *******@upwork.com. Please note each case will be manually reviewed by our Trust & Safety team to decide if your account can be reinstated.
Please know we dont make decisions like these lightly and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
Regards,
Upwork Trust & Safety
I have 4 successful jobs with 5 stars rating but lately I couldn't get any job and I received this notice... A greedy group of unprofessional flock
Upwork is the best place for freelancing. I'll always prefer working on upwork no matter what. If you got your first project on upwork then you'll keep going to your way to success.
It is the best platform where you can find jobs with good rates and get some cash also your money won't get lost it is easily to transfer your money from upwork to your bank account or through paypal
I am very happy with upwork and how it has brought me more opportunities of working with various brands/companies/and clients that are very good. It also assures me of my weekly salaries smoothly
I have lost my job due to the pandemic. Then I tried to learn new skills and enrolled in Upwork. Not long after, I got a job from there. Thank you very much Upwork, you gave me new hope,
Working as a translator on Upwork was a remarkable and great experience. During my first job, the process was very clear and smooth thanks to the Upwork notification. I really like this website.
If I had one company to take off the face of this Earth, it would be Upwork. Downright, worst service I have ever experienced, both on the client side and freelancer side (and I have been with Upwork since 2009 when it was still Elance) so yeah I have a right to this ACCURATE opinion. They absolutely hate when you form a team of your own on the platform because they see it as competition and a liability to their bottom line (considering teams try to take jobs out of the platform to avoid the fees). Furthermore, there's terrible talent on there - my grandma can perform services better than most the foreign thirsty freelancers on there who can barely speak English and worst of all, there is no AUTOMATION to the service! Luckily, I'm fixing that. Have fun with your new competition, Upwork AKA Hellwork.
Never in my professional experience have I experienced worse. This 'company'
Needs to be held accountable for ineptitude, incompetence and a complete inability to deal with the customer. I spent last Monday on the phone trying to get an agent - any agent on the phone. The phone rang out several times, eventually when the number ran out again the message indicated that this number was no longer in service. We called a different number within the system and same end result. This time we were told to leave a message and we would be called back in 24 hours! I tried the following day again and immediately a young employee picked up the phone. She was totally incapable of solving the problem this company was having with UpWork. In the meantime, we continued to get these inane e mails with a donotreply address that were completely at cross purposes with our attempt to problem solve. In short, if I as the CEO of a company billed this entity for my time trying to make contact with them -my bill would far outweigh the bill I owed them. Close them down is my recommendation. Dreadful, dreadful and dreadful. Also... they employ people in foreign lands to answer phones! How about forcing them to employ people in the USA.
I am making living out of the Upwork service. It is more than 4 years, I have started freelancing in college. I am bit of not happy with the job success score and the review system.
Are you looking for a job? Long term, short term. Do you need to work for money, meet people, offer the little/major skill you have got? Try upwork! You would never be disappointed. See you soon.
My head spins when I try to list the multitude of reasons why UpWork just does not, well, WORK. The most glaring issue of all, though, is that they do little to nothing about clients violating the TOS and will allow a client to walk off with your work without paying for it, even though you fulfilled all the requirements and well... did your job. Some people will tell you that's the risk you take. They're full of bull. When you work independently, you do have the option of suing a client that does not pay for services rendered. You do not get that option with UpWork. And unless a straight-up client talks pornographically to you or something, UpWork will also overlook even the most severe forms of verbal abuse and harassment. They also don't mind one bit if the client demands extra work for free. I cannot believe this business model is even still alive in this kind of format in 2020. Well, I'm turning over a new leaf in my life where I will no longer accept less than I deserve. Sorry, UpWork, but you do not qualify. It's a shame you're missing out on my big contracts because I do those through PayPal... I can't trust you to have my back in a dispute the way I can trust PayPal to.
I know getting 20% off from your actual salary is kinda hard to take in, but still, the platform gives us the avenue to earn in the first place. So I still think it's a win-win.
I've been using Upwork for a decent amount of time. I was using it when it before it became Upwork. I've had a wonderful experience using it to connect to others looking to hire a ghostwriter, or are looking to hire a freelancer to do editing/proofreading of their works. Employers have been polite and great with communication, from my experience. I'm not the biggest name on the site so I'm sure, much like in person, there are those who aren't so good at communication or might exhibit bad business conduct. When that happens, Upwork is very helpful in acting on any reports so both freelancers and employers can feel safe during a contracts duration. I highly recommend Upwork for anyone looking to set their own working price, and for employers looking to hire a person or a few for a project, setting your own price for what you're willing to pay for the work if done successfully. The payment can be done via milestones, set by the employer for how much money is released from escrow per milestone for the entire project's lifespan, or the project can be paid for in full upon completion to the satisfaction of the employer.
In 2019, I signed up to try my hand at upwork. I had no idea how much I could get into work using the upwork service. It seems to me that only thanks to upwork I managed to integrate into the world economy and become a part of the world labor market. I work every day and improve my qualifications every day. Now I don't even know how I could do without this service that upwork provides. Every day I am more and more interested in working with upwork. I am an engineer by profession and with great joy I can realize my engineering potential. I can easily assess the trends and requirements of the market in relation to IT technology and engineering. The Upwork service is changing the world for the better before our eyes and gives everyone a chance to try their hand. Without a doubt, I recommend that everyone, both freelancers and clients, turn to innovative recruiting technologies. And everyone, thanks to innovative recruitment technologies, will be able to integrate into the global economy and, in a place with an upwork, change the world for the better.
Many thanks.
They just suspend your account without any reason and then tell you that you violets their policy but which policy, they even don't know.
$#*!ing money makers from freelancers and clients. There are thousands of page in their policy and if you ask them which you violets then they have no answer.
STAY AWAY FROM UPWORK, THEY ARE CHEATERS...
Never worked there. Did not know who they were, Somehow they got my Paypal account information and made several hundred dollars of withdrawals. BEWARE of this company... they are NOT legit!
Upwork has allowed me to find amazing clients and jump-start my career as an active freelancer. They have taken many measures to protect and empower freelancers and clients alike.
When you apply for work on Upwork, they have "Connects" which you purchase to bid higher on a job. I was able to PURCHASE several Connects in order to do so.
HOWEVER, on the flip side, the site wouldn't allow me to link my Paypal or Debit Card or Direct Deposit to get paid. This makes no sense. I spent four hours trying to contact them for help. Their "Chat" gave me a runaround. I put in several tickets. No one got back to me. I have a client that I only did half the job for and I might miss the deadline because I refuse to work if I'm not getting paid. This puts both me and my client in a bad spot. Hopefully they will Google me and we can continue to work together.
All that said, I DO NOT recommend Upwork! Plus the fact you have to sift though hundreds of low balling jobs to find at least one that pays you what your worth is -- IF you'll even get paid. My expectations for this site is extremely low. I'm better off using Craig's List where I found many clients who pay well above average.
Thanks to Upwork I have been able to pivot my business model from self-employed face-to-face consultant to virtual freelancer - and continue to pay my bills through the pandemic nightmare.
Answer: They are horrible. Every freelancer I've gotten from Upwork has cost me more to fix the small job they have done. There's absolutely no customer service! I would stay away
Answer: This is not the place to inquire.
Answer: No, just 20% of your job when we talk about fixed price, and same for hourly but after some week it's been 10%
Answer: Go to Settings › Contact Info › Click the Close my account link. If you meet the requirements, click the button to confirm that you want to close your account.
Answer: I am a customer and have had a really horrible experience. Upwork claims a 100% guarantee before you pay anything. That is not true. The process is actually quite horrible. You put money in escrow. You only get your money back after a bad contract if the freelancer agrees to release the money. If the freelancer refuses, you get a bargain offer to still pay them something but still you are paying for a bad job you can't use. Then, if you refuse to bargain over a bad job, you are told that it will cost you an additional $389 to arbitrate with a 3rd party affiliate that the customer (me), the freelancer (scammer) and Upwork (ripoff enabler) has to pay. I took it all the way to arbitration with the end result being that Upwork decided that I was just too uninformed to know their policy and that they would give me a one time only refund of my original amount. What they didn't tell me what that they just gave me a "credit" of my original amount and that was the end. So I am still out the original amount and can't get my money back. This sight is a ripoff. Plain and simple.
Answer: Because of their policy changes which are geared towards the client rather than the freelancer. They have dug their own grave with their policy changes of late.
Answer: Go to Get Paid on PC or Mobile, you will see 3 dots in front of your payment method, tap to select edit/remove to change them. Go to Billing Method on PC under Billing Section and tap three dots to change (edit/remove). Thanks
Answer: Be part and see, dont look at the sold mine reviews people, upwork can bush you to reach.
Answer: I agree with Sam. This place is a scam. They have bad reviews everywhere. Katrina is probably working for them!
Upwork has a rating of 2.4 stars from 2,122 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Upwork most frequently mention customer service, credit card and job success. Upwork ranks 7th among Freelancing sites.
