“Freaking liars,and worst customer service of anyone I've ever dealt with”

This is the worst busness I've ever dealt with. If you can even get them on the phone. I waited over 2 hours the other day on hold just to be dropped when they tried to transfer me.Since starting SS disability I received 2 payments on 2 different cards. So instead of putting it all on one card they gave me 2 which just confused everything. For over 2 years I asked them to put all my miney on just 1 card. They agreed and said that it was not right having 2 cards,said they'd change it. 2 years later they changed only because I was receiving only 1 check as of recent. So many fraudulent charges every month and trying to get refunded is just a joke. I loose so much money every month because of this. I truly don't know how there still in business.,PS,they also have no problem lieing and have to me many times.

Their platform promises attractive returns, but it's all smoke and mirrors. I strongly advise against getting involved with Direct Express, as my experience suggests they are operating as a scam. Be cautious, as engaging with them could lead to financial loss and other negative outcomes. I was able to recover my money, but it was only possible through external assistance. (I used their website URL as my display name and profile picture on this review in case anyone needs help or wants to reach out for support). Note: Due to the strict policy here, I'm sharing this purely to help others recover their funds.

4 Hours On Hold And I Got Cut Off A Total Disgrace To Treat People This Way. They Put A Security Issue On My Card And There Wasn't Any And Nobody Fixed The Problem Because Real People Never Answer The Phone.

Horrible customer service. I would not even give them one star. As of January 3rd 2023 I have still not received my new card or my social security payment.

What a joke. My wife has them and also regular bank accounts. She has excellent credit 800's. I have been trying for a couple years to get her to use her regular bank for SSI payments. She finally gets it now that she was scammed by a local gym. We were told that they didn't have contracts. So she paid for 6... 30 minute sessions with a personal trainer for 180.00. But we found out they were debiting her Direct Express card 140.00 ever 2 weeks. I cought the 1st one and contacted Direct Express by phone because you can't do anything through the website not even transferring money to your real bank. (They said that service is no longer available). So we filed a complaint and was told we'd receive a letter and fill out the paperwork. The letter said if returned within 10 day's money would be credited immediately. Problem was it took 14 days to receive letter. The next day I was mailing the forms back to them and received a new letter stating that their investigation is completed and sorry sucker you lose... We did go to the SSI office and change the direct deposit to her bank and the lady at social security rolled her eyes and nodded when we told her how much Direct Express sucks...

Direct Express will block access to your Social Security account arbitrarily without warning, claiming suspicion of fraudulent activity -- but will not specify the reason for the suspicion, nor will they issue anything in writing about the action or the policy behind it. You will thus be subject to embarrassment and inconvenience or worse when your card is declined everywhere. Calls to customer service always requires hold time of 1/2-hour-plus. Customer service gives runaround with attitude -- will pretend not to hear you and hang up, etc. Each rep will give different excuse as to why they block your account. They will not tell you when or how access to your account will be restored. Elderly and disabled status means absolutely nothing to these sociopaths -- they are in the business of defrauding the powerless. Smells like a criminal fraud scam to tie up your money in currency speculation, denying you and millions of other Social Security recipients access to accounts in the meantime. Direct Express is a national disgrace. Calls to Comerica Bank which issues the card elicits complete denial of any responsibility.

This is definitely the worst company however I should not be surprised giving that it is affiliated with the government. I was assisting a client with activating their replacement card only to be put on hold for more than 3 hours and no one EVER came to the phone. How is this helpful? How is this convenient for anyone? There is no way to activate the card online either. How is this helpful? When you call, they ask for the card number and your last 4 of your SS#, then you are put on eternal hold. Hey Direct Express, not sure if you are aware but most cards are activated over the telephone or online as alternate options. Not sure if this is a way to justify your need for employees but this whole set up is sad and is not conducive to your average consumer. Also, you cannot email customer service which is why any complaint has to be on sites like this. Overall, this is a government 3rd party entity and they operate just as crappy as all of the other government or "government-affiliated" entities.

Tip for consumers:
Avoid using this if you can. Go open a credit union account, it is much better

I been trying for 5 days to get block off. Have been told 10 times. My card would be working in 2 hours. I have been id verify. Still block or direcr express not correct the problem.

This the worst debit card ever comerica bank is a complete scam they will be ok at first and then out of no where beat out of your money. This place had issues with there website. There was a so called computer glitch. I made a ach transfer for 300 bucks and it was taken off my card however the money never arrived and when i contacted them about this issue they gave me the run around and told me to file a dispute so i do that. About a week later i called customer service to find out the status and a rep says oh the SUPERVISOR yes SUPERVISOR did not do my dispute correctly and she says oh i will credit your account for 300 bucks but this is where the slick lie comes in they debited my external account for 300 bucks and overdrew my account and the money was never found and i was out of 300 bucks do not fool with cormerica bank they are crooks

avoid them at all cost get a bank account or another debit card company

I continuously had problems with Direct Express complaining that somebody was making purchases from Walmart on gift cards. In June of this year another $300 and gift cards one for $100 the other one for $200 we're supposedly purchased I called Walmart Walmart tonight any purchases were made in my name for Walmart gift cards but yet Direct Express says purchases were made I asked them to call Walmart they said they would not call Walmart they denied my claim two times they mailed expedited debit cards to me they failed to put my space number down they charged me the $17.50 for the expedited service I was told I would be refunded the first two because Direct Express failed to put my space number once again I was denied that $35 for both of those Direct Express is a fraud they do not help the people they only take from the people

Completely unacceptable I have used Direct Express for more than 3 years and I have never experienced such a headache it has never been this hard to activate a Direct Express Card and then they keep you on hold for 3 to 8 hours they never answer their phones and after what I heard of them frauding people and taking people's money this card is not worth the headache whoever is reading this review please do not use this card they need to fix their customer service and their system compete waste of time shame on them.

You can not get a record of your transactions unless you request it. Supposedly you can get it online but good luck with that. I set up an account and the second time it said I was using an incorrect password and sent a temp one to my email I had to go back and sue the temporary password to set up a new one. Then after doing that it said it was sending me an email to retrieve it. But even though they had just sent something to my email, that password never arrived. This happened on half a dozen attempts. So you cannot use the web site. If you call the number you get an endless voicemail loop, ultimately-- if you are lucky to get that far, they say due to high call volume you are out of luck. Hey use the web site it says or call back. Click. You can also request a mailed print out of your transactions, but only at the end of the month. It costs extra and ho btw you have to get a person on the phone to request it or right the useless web site. I swear they do all this on purpose. The better to take a few bucks out of your account and you cannot monitor it. I am missing money I am sure and this has happened several times. One time a few years ago I finally got a customer service rep and a print out and yes somebody bought several hundred dollars worth of tires on my card 3,000 miles away.

On November 7th 2023, my brother was at the gymnasium and his locker got broken into. They took only his wallet which had his debit card social security card identification card and about $30 in cash. It took me 1 hour and some minutes to get through to customer service at Direct Express so that we could stop the card from being used. As we were seeing the transactions pile up while we're filing the police at the gymnasium where it took place. While we're on the phone with Direct Express trying to stop the card. As they ran their investigation they found that because a pin was introduced that they were not at fault and the provisional funds were reversed. Making my brother a two-time victim of fraudulent activity they did not follow regulation E protocols that states that customers that report fraud within the same day of the fraud transactions are only responsible for up to $50 of the amount charged which was $240 total. For some reason there is no number for the dispute Department there is no way to get in contact with them directly and their decision is final making my brother the victim in the end. As I've been reading this company is notorious for doing such things and siding on the side of the crime committer instead of the victim. I strongly suggest for everyone to seek other means for direct deposits ask for a direct express they do not care about their consumers

I am on SSDI my information on my direct express card was stolen and used to purchase items online 3 times with the same amount, I am having a very hard time getting my money back from direct express as I have no money for food,rent and medication I keep calling direct Express but they don't care,don't sign up with them as they are no good.

I have been trying to get a new card they told me it would be 7 to 10 i waited then i called them they told me they did send it so i had to pay for 2 day shipping that was 5 days ago

As power of attorney for an elderly Spanish-speaking gentleman who is illiterate and has cognitive difficulties, I called on his behalf to ask why a replacement card for his recently expired card had not arrived by mail. Months previously, I was assured a replacement card would be mailed automatically before the card expired. When I called, the Direct Express rep said the company does not recognize power of attorney, does not allow 3-way calls with someone assisting the client, and only deals with clients who can answer security questions themselves. When, after at least 5 hours of hold time over 3 calls and 2 days, the gentleman was finally able to verify his identity to their satisfaction, he was told that he would have to pay $50 for an expedited card. This man on a very modest fixed income had had no access to his own money for a week because of an ERROR BY DIRECT EXPRESS in not sending the replacement card. Without outside assistance, he would not have been able to buy food during that time. Direct Express´s policies are exclusionary, inefficient, infuriating, and utterly unjustifiable, given that many elderly and vulnerable people receive monthly government support distributed to a Direct Express card. Direct Express needs to review and revise its policies. Entities that contract with Direct Express should hold them accountable or move their business elsewhere.

Direct Express Card service, has terrible services.MY MOTHER CARD EXPIRED 1/31/23 and applied for a new card last year and still have not received her card. Her funds are on the new card and she can't get any of it to pay her bills for this month.From the looks of it she's going to be paying a lot of late fees this month.ITS SEEM TO BE IMPOSSIBLE TO CONNECT WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE 2 WEEKS OF CALLING CS AND ALL YOU GET IS NOTHING! POOR POOR POOR SERVICE! I wouldn't recommend this card to my worst enemy...

Direct Express customer service I waited on hold for 4 hours before somebody answered and the person that answered didn't know what his job was or how to do it so he put me through the supervisor well the supervisor him hard him hog and trying to tell me this tried to tell me that I jumped through there hopes that they wanted me to do deactivating my card I sent him a photocopy of my ID and color and they got it then the next day my card still not working I had to send them my certificate another copy of my photo ID and still my card don't work direct Express employees pull your head out of your $#*! do your job

They do NOTHING TO HELP FURTHERMORE THEY SAY SINCE MY CARD IS A DEBIT CARD IT IS NOT FDIC INSURED INSTEAD IT GOES LIKE THIS
IF YOU CALL IMMEDIATELY NO CHARGE AFTER 2 days you have to pay $50 after a few more it goes to $500 after that you have to pay ALL OF IT! So to be CLEAR YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR A THIEF TAKING YOUR MONEY!
Efff all that! THIS IS THE GOVERNMENT PUTING THE SCREWS TO US IN EVERY WAY CLEARLY THEY HELP THIEVES IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE THIS MONTH ALONE I HAVE OVER $900 FRAUD CHARGES FOR HEALTH AND FITNESS I DO NOT NEED ANY OF THAT NOW I CANT BUY FOOD GAS OR MEDS! Direct Express reports my I June Davis I lost my card pin number and who ever got my card took off card 216 I only had0 36 cent my account stolen they direct Express should give back to me in account 120 days waiting for results I really need that moneynow

THERE IS NO ONE TO SPEAK WITH TO CLOSE MY ACCOUNT
I'VE BEEN TRYING TO CLOSE THIS ACCOUNT FOR OVER 2 YEARS
AND THERE IS NO ONE AVAILABLE TO TALK TO

You can't use your card for purchases, they LOCK YOU OUT OF YOUR OWN ACCOUNT and you have to CALL THEM TO TAKE THE LOCK OFF! If you're shopping and find out that you have to CALL THEM TO UNLOCK YOUR MONEY you have a LONGGGGG WAIT TO GET TO NOBODY!

When you call the customer service number you're put on hold FOREVER! They are rude and unprofessional. The recording says look on back of your card for the minuscule customer service number! I couldn't READ! I turned binoculars upside down and I finally read the number just to be kept on hold for now 1/2 an hour. They don't have a gue for them to call you back. They have never helped me before and it's almost impossible to find this number online. Even if you report a fraudulent activity they do NOTHING! I just read they are being sued by US Veterans and Disabled People! I am going to try to join the law suit and I hope they close this crap down and they pay especially our Veterans a TON OF MONEY BASED ON DX Card FRAUDULENT ACTIVITIES! Please Retweet, Post this on a social media because we deserve better treatment!

Tip for consumers:
Don’t take this card from US Treasury! Choose a reputable financial institution and find one that allows you to have a checking account and be able to pay your bills with your VA benefits or Disability benefits! Direct Express is the worst way to have government benefits deposited!

I have 10yrs of exp with DX, have re-ordered many cards in the past. I rcvd my new card & attempted to activate it as I have done for yrs. DX refused to activate my card stating I need to email a copy of me ID. Info provided on their website states DX will never provide email addresses to customers, email ID verification has never been a requirement to activate a replacement card, if they changed this policy, I was never given any notice of this change. All the info & directives state the requirements are to call CS #, they ask me the questions needed to verify who I am, I provided that info but they keep refusing to activate my card. If they didn't believe it was me why are they providing me with my personal info to include in an email to them along with a copy of my ID? This is a contradiction to their own policies addressed on their own website. Their customer service reps are not helpful, have no compassion for locking up my last 3 ss payments, leaving without any means of providing for myself.

I recently contacted D.EX. Customer service after making a purchase from harbor frieght when i got home the there was a receipt for my purchase as well as another charge for $5.99, I then contacted the store an was told that it was a scam DirectExpress customer service told me if i wanted to dispute this I had to pay for another card. My advice is find a banking institution *****DO NOT USE DIRECT EXPRESS!

All I can literally say is this place is hoooorrriibbbllleeee! If you can get a real bank get it, this place is a complete headache. You will call and consistently be hung up on by the system being told "we have a extreme number of calls, visit out website. Go to the website and 19/20 times you can't access it as you're prompted with "can't connect to host server" so you have to call back and deliberately go to wrong department which is the only way to get a person, sit waiting for an hour to an hour and a half then get transfered and be on hold another 2 hours. For me my card keeps locking up repeatedly any time I try to make a online purchase such as pay my cell phone or buy a $20 headset. I've had to call now for the 3rd time today alone if had to call since my card refuses to stay unlocked. I've spent over 9 hours today on hold and now I'm on hold again for the 4th time with same exact issue they say they fixed the last 3 times I've called today and this isn't a rare event here! This place is god awful!

Tip for consumers:
Don't, just use a normal bank and save yourself half a day of calling them repeatedly for the same issue

Every time I had a dispute about money they don't do nothing they're the worst of the worst telling you I've never seen a card and it's even back by MasterCard I'm going to try them I don't know if it's leaving work but I already went to the BBB on some of the places that I got robbed from too yeah Direct express is terrible hands down people put your money in a bank or on another card chime or something believe me I went through 12 years of this crap and they've never done nothing I've had like maybe three or four disputes when cameras were all around they didn't care they just turned it down so don't keep your money on that card.dIRRECT eXPRESS are abunch of DEARLICKS

Don't leave your money on direct express's card it's arip off they won't help you recover your monoes.

The store charged me$ 11.00 2 days later I wasn't in the store at all and My card was charged $21.47 and I never went in the store I put an complaint with Direct express and the B.B.B.
