Badly designed website will waste your time and money
November 14, 2023

Web interface design for mobile is horrible; constant pop-ups interrupt and cover-up important sections of profiles you are trying to read and click on; I set my filters for local matches (within 20 miles) age 55-60, got 100+ matches (not) of 27-70 y/o guys 900 miles away; as soon as I removed matches that weren't a fit they just popped right back up requiring me to continously cull and cull again the list of matches - I am very average-looking and not putting a hot profile out there, but the algorithms are so bad it quickly got to the point of needing hours to manually, repetitively sort and remove profiles. You have to click on every profile that shows up in your inbox and it takes a few minutes to read a decent profile as the info requires multiple clicks to access photos in one tab, age + location in another tab, the person's story in another, meanwhile you have popups obscuring half the screen. It's like bushwhacking thru a popup jungle!. Thumbnail images are micrsxopic so you can't identify anyone in the lists of messages (not actual messages - just guys sending a thumbs up or hearts) so it's back to dozens of clicks just to view one person and then no way to pin or efficiently remove profiles.

Overall, your preferences will be ignored you spend more time repetitively trying to remove people you aren't interested in and can't spend time on the ones you do like. I gave the website three weeks more effort than it deserved and should have been able to get at least a few good connections going but I couldn't pin my top picks and they got buried alive by new messages (which were just guys hitting like on my profile, not true messages) every time I logged in. I feel duped.

If you are a voyeur who isn't interested meeting people IRL you can make Zoosk web work. Otherwise, save your heart, time and money - hard pass.

Tip for consumers:

Didn't ask for a refund, but am cancelling my account a week before the next billing hope and pray they don't keep billing me.

ZOOSK IS UNETHICAL- HORRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICES
September 7, 2022

I have made 7 attempts to contact them by phone, email and online contact, yet they refuse to respond or do anything to correct this situation! They have taken my money, but will not give me access to my account! Here is the situation (and what I sent to them MANY TIMES, yet they have continued to blow me off!

MESSAGE SENT TO THEIR LEGAL DEPARTMENT 7 TIMES- NO RESPONSE
*******
I've been a Zoosk subscriber for years, with no problems. All of a sudden, approximately three weeks ago, I was not able to get into my account and a notice when I tried to login said that my account was blocked, with no further information or explanation!

I have sent numerous emails and request for information as to why Zoosk has done this, but have yet to receive any answer, Except to re-create my profile, which is completely unacceptable!

Due to the fact Zoosk refuses to give me any justification or information as to why they blocked me, I suspect they screwed up on their end, and just saying that its a problem with my account to cover up their error

Additionally, to exasperate this situation, I am continuing to get email notifications that I have received another message, and have 10+ messages waiting for me in my inbox THAT I CANNOT READ BECAUSE THEY WONT ALLOW ME ACCESS TO MY ACCOUNT, WHICH I PAY FOR!

I even tried calling customer service, they also have no information or explanation, the only thing that I was told, is to contact Zoosk legal help!

This is absolutely absurd! At any time, Zoosk can decide they want to block the account YOU PAY FOR, not provide any information explaining the reason for their action. The only thing I'm told is to recreate my profile and use a different email address!

What makes this more suspicious, is why can't I just change my password, or use some different email for the profile I already have?

Again, they refuse to tell me th specific reasons ("security issue") In addition to being unethical, This is not legal to not allow me to use something I PAY FOR!

FURTHERMORE, HOW ENTIRELY RIDICULOUS AND ILLOGICAL IS IT THAT OTHER MEMBERS ARE ALLOWED TO SEND ME EMAILS TO MY ONLINE PROFILE, WHICH I HAVE HAD FOR YEARS... BUT I CANNOT READ THEM BECAUSE ZOOSK WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO LOG INTO MY ACCOUNT FOR SOME ALLEGED SECURITY ISSUE, WHICH THEY WILL NOT GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION ABOUT!
I AM DEMANDING A REFUND FOR A SUBSCRIPTION I PAID FOR BUT AM PREVENTED FROM USING!

I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO RECREATE A WHOLE NEW PROFILE FOR UNKNOWN REASONS (ALLEDGED SECURITY ISSUE) WHICH THEY REFUSE TO GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION ABOUT.
MY PASSWORD IS NOT EASY AND NO ONE ELSE HAS ACCESS TO MY ACCOUNT!

UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES!

I WANT MY ACCOUNT UNBLOCKED

USE A DIFFERENT SITE!!!!!!!!!!
They are horrible if you have any problems

Complete Scam
June 17, 2022

Zoosk is a complete scam. In fact, it is an ongoing give us more money scam. This is how it works - you sign up for free, they show you fake profiles, you get a lot of interest really quick - you cannot see who is interested UNTIL YOU PAY. Now, you pay for a subscription but what they don't tell you is that the other members, (those that are real at least) whom you can now see and message, cannot see your message unless they are paying members - or you upgrade to the next level where anyone can respond to you (this upgrade cost more than the basic membership BTW).

But that is not all - even if you pay and she pays (or you buy the super membership), the system will only allow you 2 messages each. After that, the messages are not delivered so the other person does not know you have responded - unless you pay for an upgrade to get read receipts which, you guessed it, cost more than the basic membership (BTW - we are far beyond the Freemium thing now).

Next, you the system starts begging you to "send gifts" which are little emojis that cost "coins" which you must buy and add to your membership and they are non-refundable, use them or loose them (caveat emptor).

As you can see, Zoosk is an elaborate scheme to rip you off in steps. DO NOT BE MISLEAD by all the positive "paid for reviews" posted by the owners of the site. The "freemium" gets you a glimpse of the system, that is the only thing it does, a glimpse designed to drag you in. You may even get contacted by cute women who are premium members you can contact "for free". THESE ARE THE FAKE PROFILES. Once you pay, those cute women stop responding to you. Then the system sends you email after email telling you someone "viewed your profile". If you click the link to see who, it takes you to the carousel (sort of a deck of profiles, not the profile of the person who allegedly looked at you, she is nowhere to be found). If you click the "X" i. E. "not interested" (swipe left, whatever you want to call it) it sends that person a message that you viewed their profile. DID YOU, REALLY? But to add insult to injury, if you click on the "Heart Emoji (Swipe Right) the other person does NOT get a message. But you can buy coins to fix that!

Finally, if you and the person you like manage to find one another (both of you are now extra double secret probation super ninja members) you can only exchange 2 messages (back to the problem above) The system will not let the other person see you third communication unless you spend coins to see if they have read it. When you buy and spend those coins, the message is forwarded and you get a receipt if it is opened (supposedly).

Basic membership = $30/month ($9.99 if you buy six months in advance so they can bolster the numbers - unfortunately, after a week, most people cancel and delete the app so while the site claims to have millions of profiles, the real and active ones are far less.) Read receipts cost $14.95 per month, to allow others to respond to you is another $11/month, and then there are the coins you will need to purchase so the real price is higher than ever other dating site out there.

Zoosk claims to be the least expensive, in reality, it is the most expensive. DON'T WAISTE YOUR MONEY.

Tip for consumers:

Rip Off Alert. And they store your credit card information too, so you will have to go cancel that at the bank.

Fake Profiles and Click Bait to Get You
June 10, 2022

I started off browsing for free, living in a suburb about 30m outside Seattle. It seemed great how many men 'popped up' in under a 10 mile radius. Majority of profiles seemed real - multiple photos and not in a manufactured way, content free of typical grammar issue red flags. So, not having the ability to message without joining, I paid for a one-year subscription. With a promo code, it was under $100. Once I did "convert" to a paying member, nearly ALL the profiles I saw near me were gone. This was so confusing as the timeframe was literally days. It doesn't seem practical that in such a short window, all these nearby profiles just disappeared. I'd message men, get a cut/paste response nearly identical and then nothing more. What's interesting is that reply always received, was NOT one of the Zoosk "prompts" when you go to contact another. I've got a male friend who used the site, similar timing as me. He had the exact same experience when going from free to paid, all of the sudden, no local matches. Full disclosure, I did get annoyed enough to kind of ignore for awhile. Below is the response from Customer Service when I aired my frustrations and questioned how many profiles are real/fake. So, best advice, stay away. There are so many free sites/apps. Yes, they too have fake profiles to sift through... but at least you're not paying for it!

We appreciate the fact that you are a Subscriber, however, we are unable to issue refunds for purchases over 60 days old. The major financial channels have provided a 60-day window for Merchants to perform any action. After this time period, the Merchant's access to the transaction is either restricted or fully denied. If you are unable to find the member or the messages anywhere on the site, it is possible that this member's account is on pause status or already deactivated. The Pause feature allows you to temporarily suspend your account, removing it from Search, SmartPick, and Carousel, without cancelling your Subscriber benefits. When a paused account is reactivated, the profile and the messages will be visible again. Conversely, if a user chooses to leave the site and deactivates their account, their profile and all of their sent messages are removed. This is to respect people's privacy and to ensure a safe online dating experience for everybody.

Tip for consumers:

They will only provide a PARTIAL refund if requested before 60 days

Zoosk.com and other dating sites
February 14, 2022

I am a paid member at Zoosk and eHarmony and have a free membership with Match.com, POF.com, OkCupid and Tinder and also was a paid member at Flirt.com. Here is what is the biggest common problem with all of them - way too many fake profiles. Zoosk, to me, does the best job of other sites eliminating fake profiles because they ask members to verify their pictures using their phone camera but unfortunately it is not mandatory. So, because that meeting someone REAL on ALL these sites is pretty much a lottery, with just a little bigger chance of 'winning' than the actual lottery. And, unfortunately, same as with the lottery, you need to actually buy one to have any hope of winning. All those 'I Found My Love' reviews are either lies or the lucky ones who were able to 'win' this dating lottery.
There are also too many who lie about their age and looks. They either post pictures from 20-30 years ago or, for example, say they are 45 years old but person on the pictures is more like a grandparent in their 70s or 80s.
The 'Catfishing' is the worst! And those people have perfected their scams. They sound (in writing) very realistic and even send very real pictures, probably stolen from a valid profile or a person. EVERYONE PLEASE DO NOT REVEAL ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION VIA CHAT OR EMAIL! At least not until you're 100% sure it is a 'real' person.
Another problem is that after you saw a profile you liked and you reached out to them, there is no way of knowing WHY you did not get a response. Were they fake, did they not have a paid account and could not respond, or they just simply did not like you -- there is no way of knowing why you did not get a response. Even the ones that DID 'like' you back, do not send any response after you actually reach out to them. Unless it's a Catfisher of course.
I am a 50 years old male. And I am looking for a female. So, this is to all the women out there around my age range who are on these dating sites:
Please stop expecting the likes of Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Chris Hemsworth, etc. on these dating sites! Men like that do NOT need to be on those sites to find a woman. So, if you see a profile with a 45-50 old man like that, that is most likely fake. Or you need to go a quickly buy a lottery ticket
Also, all my life I've been taught that "A man falls in love through his eyes, a woman through her ears". I do not know if/what changed in these past years but if that is still true women need to look 'presentable' to men. Luckily, we men have all kinds of different tastes and views on what 'presentable' means to us. So, please try your best and PLEASE give men a chance and at least communicate with them and hear what they have to say. No one on these sites is obligated to anyone, so if you do not like what you hear it is OK to just say Goodbye.

A Joke That Most Men Should Run Quickly Away From...
July 5, 2020

As you can see by these reviews, women seem to at least be able to talk to and meet actual people and generally (though certainly not always) post more favorable reviews. Some may have some complaints more along the lines of how lame some guys were. At least they talked with real guys. But if you are a man, apart from a very few who can probably get action anywhere, the chances of ever actually talking to a human female are extremely low. The site seems stacked with:
1) FAKE profiles
2) FAKE views
3) FAKE notifications that someone wants to chat with you
4) FAKE notifications that someone wants to meet you, etc...
Then you try to chat with someone after receiving a notification that the person wants to chat with you, and you NEVER receive a response. It's like being told by a bully in school, "Hey, that girl said she likes you; go talk to her!" Then, of course, you go and the girl has absolutely no interest in you.
I received an e-mail notification that someone wanted to meet me; the pic in the email looked 1-2 decades off of the stated age, and she was listed as being local, but the picture had an out-of-state telephone number written over the face of the lady (which I've heard means the chance is high of the person being a prostitute, if it's even a real person voluntarily posting a pic). Then when I logged into Zoosk, I noticed no such person ever even viewed my profile. According to reviews at Consumer Affairs, this is a very common occurence with Zoosk.
Then I played the carousel to about 50% of potential matches, most of which were not even in my same state, and within a couple minutes had 4-5 'views' from the same women, most, again, from out of state and surely wouldn't have bothered looking if they were real women. Again, another very common Zoosk failure.
Then one young lady I'd sent a message to earlier yesterday allegedly 'viewed' me again, and I saw a message pop up saying that she wanted to chat. So I clicked to her profile to begin chatting and noticed she hadn't even read the first message I'd sent (BTW, you have to pay to see if someone has read any messages sent to them each time after...) Many hours later, after midnite, my phone received a notification that my message had been read, and I noticed she had sent me a message, too. I decided to wait until the morning to view it.
I received a ONE-WORD REPLY -- 'yes' to asking if she lived in the same city with the rest of the chat completely ignored, and yet it now shows we're listed as a 'connection,' lol... I replied, 'Nice,' as it was obvious I was wasting my time. I then shortly later receive a notice that she wanted to chat. I also paid to see that she had allegedly read my last message. So I sent a message stating the app notified me that she wanted to chat, and I asked if she would like to chat a little. That was read but not replied to. Then just a bit later I get the notification again that she wants to chat, though she never does...
This is all experienced in just 2 days since I became a paying member and posted one profile pic. I've since uploaded a few more that I felt were a little better just to see if anything might happen. And I filled out all the information -- story, interests, ideal match, etc... So far, nada except for 2-3 views from the same ones that live a state away and are almost surely bots, anyway. They can't even get bots from the city I live in to play mind games? Lol. I hadn't used a dating site since I met my recent wife of 5 years on Match, but I've been able to at least talk to and meet a few women via Match, and I at least had a fairly lengthy conversation over a few days and nearly met up with one lady via Plenty of Fish ~ 6 years ago.
I sincerely doubt the same would happen on Zoosk regardless of how much time (and $) I invested. How can guys be motivated to put effort into messages they know almost certainly won't ever be seen by a real person? You'd be better off trying to make a match with a hardened political oppenent you'd have an argument with online, as at least that person exists. Hopefully Match and POF haven't gone heavily in this direction, as well.
*ALSO, I WILL MAKE SURE TO CANCEL MY DEBIT CARD BEFORE CANCELING THE SERVICE, AS MANY REVIEWS ON THE CONSUMER AFFAIRS SITE MENTION THAT THE COMPANY WILL STILL CHARGE YOU AFTER CANCELLING. YOU'RE MADE TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT WHEN USING PAYPAL THAT THEY CAN USE WHATEVER OTHER METHOD OF PAYMENT IS ON THE ACCOUNT, SO I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO DELETE MY BANK OFF THERE AROUND THAT TIME, AS WELL.
In the end, upon realizing you've paid for 3 months of what basically amounts to a horrible carnival ride full of fake garbage with nothing more to see beyond the first 1-1.5 days, it's better to accept and take the loss and to avoid wasting any more time or energy on the site. I can only say it's made me feel worse about myself in not being completely 100% confident that real women just won't respond to me, though I'm pretty sure it's all bots. It just amazes me that Zoosk is somehow in ANY measure considered one of the top dating sites. What a sham(e). I would have been far better off spending the money and time on self-improvement, which is the way to try and gain interest from women you can actually meet. Hopefully a civil lawsuit will be brought forth at some point and could help reform or even simply help lead to putting such scams out of business. I will post this same review on Consumer Affairs, where there are even far fewer positive reviews. If there were some way to give less than one star here and there, I would do so.
