I called in to get some assistance with portal lockout. Elena, my agent on the other end, quickly found the root of the problem, asked me what my goals were; signed me up for premium (which led to a successful match in less than 10 days); and made sure that I knew best how to navigate the portal! I really appreciate all the support!
Affordablehousing.com should prioritize making their platform more accessible instead of focusing on filling it with ads for financial gain. While it's a clever strategy given the site's high traffic, they've lost sight of the real people who genuinely need their services. It would be beneficial if ALL landlords and realtors were verified or, at the very least, provided their realtor's license numbers or even have a verified badge for clients to verify, ensuring our safety. Unfortunately, it seems that affordablehousing.com is more concerned with profit than with the well-being of its users. With scams at an all-time high, why not make the platform more private and secure? PS: Affordablehousing.com should consider turning their platform into an 'all-in-one portal.' We shouldn't have to communicate with landlords or realtors off-site until it's time to view a listing. If potential clients like us need to be verified as well, I'd gladly go through the process for the sake of safety on the platform.

Rental
There were many, at least a few hundreds, potential renters that affordable housing website matched with my property. I painstakingly went through trying to connect with each of these potential renters. More than 90% of the renters did not respond. It is unclear whether these are active tenants looking for tenancy or simply legacy information that are not real prospects.
The cost is obviously high with almost $80 for monthly subscription. But it would be well worth it if you actually connect with the potential tenants. In my case, with two listings, I did not receive any real prospect through the website.
Interestingly, I received many more potential section 8 tenant directly contacting me through my free zillow listing of the property.
It's a complete scam. They want to start you off at a dollar. Then 2 dollars. Then 1 more dollar to get your credit report. Then you say you're not falling for it when hanging up on them. Then they use caller ID spoofing your own name and number making it look.like you are calling yourself.
If I could give 0 or negative stars, I would. For almost a YEAR - with multiple attempts to resolve this, they have been ignoring MAJOR issues like the inability to update a listing. They either say "everything looks good on their end" OR acknowledge many technical issues but do nothing about it! Keep charging. They are a scam because section 8 voucher holders are stuck using just this website, no other choice is available. This website charges landlords a lot of money and does NOT serve the public. The customer service denies the problems - ridiculous. The worst website I ever used, and the sad thing is that we are FORCED to use it. Give us gosection8.com back!
Tip for consumers:
Don't use it. Lobby your government agencies to STOP this scam. It's a shame that section 8 participants and those who serve them are being forced to use this terrible, glitchy, non-working website.

Hello Anastasia, I am sorry to hear that that you had a negative experience. AffordableHousing.com does not force anyone to use our website nor to do we require property owners to pay to use our services, we provide our property listing services to property owners and renters completely free of cost. We do provide a Premium membership to property owners who choose to purchase it and utilize the many additional features that are included. Also, AffordableHousing.com do not force section 8 voucher holders to use our services, using our property listing website is not a requirement to be a part of the section 8 program.
I would like to speak with you about the specifics of the issues you were having. Could you please send a message to me directly so we can better understand your experience and resolve any issues?
I am in an emergency situation for voucher housing, and they're search engine doesn't even work. I can't set a min or max price, or any other information. What is the point of this trash site? It's not to help disabled people like me.
Tip for consumers:
Don't waist your time.

I couldn't even get the search engine to work, on multiple computers.
It seems as though you are getting several interested renters however most of the contact info you are sent by the site are dead ends. Out of 200 or so potential renters I may have made contact with 3. It seems to be a collection of empty email addresses and phone numbers. On top of that they run the recurring charge scam. They will just keep charging you into perpetuity whether or not you log in or engage with them. I wasted my time and money with them hopefully those that read this review do not do the same.
Tip for consumers:
I really hate this type of business practice. If you have to scam people to make your business work you should be shut down.

I don't understand how this helps low income families when they want the credit score to be 600 and 700 nobody's perfect I have a good rental history. And nobody still want to rent... so nothing should be advertising on this section 8 list if it's not gonna help needing families

Elena went above and beyond the call of duty to help me with my rental listing after I found a tenant. She recommended how best to communicate this in the system, helped me calculate fair rental value of my unit using the web site and other things which made my experience easy.
This website fraudulently charged my account $79 although i didn't purchase/subscribe anything from them. I called a few times but couldn't reach anyone at their office. So i left voice mail messages.

Today I called Affordable Housing to discuss an administrative matter and Elena, the person who helped me knew exactly what to do, it was amazing. Elena is incredibly professional and efficient. Thanks again! Vbr, eric
They are giving scammers your information. They have a pre screen feature to apply. I just found the place I wanted with a different address same pictures on a distressed property rehabbed by the state. Beware!
Loved when this website was GoSection8.com but of course something wasn't broken and someone tried to fix it. It is hosted on a server that has to be from like 1949 with 28k dial up speeds. Ive spent almost 5 solid minutes waiting for one tab to open. We waste more time trying to navigate this convoluted mess than finding people and half the time they are not even on the program anymore.

HI,
I was very stresses out when I called at first luckily I got Ms. Elena Amado, she truly helped me! Elena was extremely patient with me and step by step showed me what do. I am not a computer savvy person and she had to guide me every step of the way. She did that with smile and great attitude! It was my first time doing Section8 and she explained all the benefits to me. Elena had great suggestions and we set up the account and she even helped me write a nice description email of my condo and send out to bunch of candidates right then. The next morning I woke up to many many messages! I did not even know which one to answer first! Sure enough I found a suitable tenant... I called Elena to thank her and she screamed of happiness when I told her I have found someone! It is rare to find people like her to be genuinely happy for you. I have never met her, I am not sure if I ever will but she is a breath of a fresh air! We need more of Elena in this world.
