I have had no issues at this school. I do not always like my teachers, as many of them dock points for grammatical errors while their lessons are FULL of misspellings, missing words, etc. Many instructors are inactive, but I do not care about that. I am taking online classes to quickly earn a degree that will help me get more job opportunities. I'm not looking to become a doctor or something. Where I live, a Bachelors is necessary for almost any job paying above minimum wage. This school will help me achieve that. I absolutely hate having to write 10 page papers for every class, every eight weeks. Especially since I take multiple classes at once and have a full life outside of school. I can't wait to be out of school so I never have to write another paper again.
While the education here is good, it isn't worth the headache with their financial aid. They deliberately take longer than necessary to refund money owed to you. They take an excessive amount of time doing so. Also they ruin students financial aid package. You would be better served elsewhere.

Did my bachelors at APU and had an avg experience, mostly just taught myself with little direct instruction from the instructors. Stayed at APU for my masters since I was familiar with the format. Horrible experience! Had some personal emergencies pop up with a 2-month premature baby arrival, wife needing surgery that took her off her feet for a month, and my live in 70-yr mom had two heart surgeries. This all happened within a 30 day span. I appealed to the instructors, but they just kept marking my stuff late without any regard to my new time limitations. I had to do an official extension and even a special extension, with one special extension being denied. When I got some of the assignments in before the extension deadlines, the instructors refused to even grade them saying that they needed them on certain dates within the extension window. Screwed up my GPA & had to pay back my job for 1 course. I'm transferring to another college and I'm done with merciless robots as teachers.

I found most courses to be pretty easy to get through but when I ran into issues with how quizzes were graded from a Mr. William Whitley who is an instructor that won't allow anyone to see what they get incorrect or correct for that matter on their tests. I complained and absolutely no one would help find a solution. I was treated like a student and with no regard. I followed all the procedures to make my complaint but heard nothing back. I know from personal experience that seeing incorrect answers on homework and tests helps me to understand where I went wrong and what I need to either review again or change. Sometimes, most of the time, it's an error due to how the system wants to see the number vs an actual incorrect answer. I would recommend finding a school that is much more focused on teaching their students rather than just whizzing them through the courses, good, bad or indifferent.
What a joke. Never looked at a textbook, studied, or put more effort than a simple google search of a question into getting a degree. The learned website put even less effort into teaching. Made it through all of my classes without being taught a thing. How they can call themselves a college or university of higher education is beyond me. If you're looking to just pay for the degree and don't care to learn then you found the place for you. Chat GPT will get you through the entirety of the 120 credits needed to leave with a degree fully inserted in your anus. Get *******@ckd APUS!
It took me about 2 weeks to figure out this place is a complete scam. Financial aid fraud, anyone with a pulse gets in, the professors are complete morons, the administration doesn't care about anything but enrollment and money. If you want an education, a real education, look elsewhere. If you want a job in education, keep looking. APUS is a diploma mill, not an educational institution. I hope they are investigated for fraud, they need to have their weak accreditation revoked and this "college" needs to be closed for good. STAY AWAY.
Most professors ignore you. They will not answer your questions or help in any way which tells me they are there for the money only and do not care about the students.
Too bad there is no way to give one third or less of a star.
I am a current student, but this would be my last course. They are selling illiteracy. You will get A for not even opening a book. The financial aid dept loves to torture students and to find any way to cut your federal financial aid down, and pay you a month after the start of the semester. I been two years with them, my GPA is 3.8, but still quitting.
One warning- the school is regionally but not ABET accredited.
Second issue- when requesting document such as diplomas expect 8 weeks for them to just get it out of their office. Expect another 2 months to receive it by mail if you live out of country. All of my other universities can get documents to me in 2 weeks and not 4 months. Severe lack of professionalism.
Instructors teach their opinion. If you want a paper mill degree this is the place to get one. One had an obvious hatred for President Trump. The fact that all he did was bash the president without offering a way to critical think with an objective opinion is immature, especially for a masters program. I don't need to be enrolled in AMU to learn how to blame the world for my problems. The American Military University is just a title its a company.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree with honours from APU/American Military University. I do not like the sad and bitter reviews. When you are an adult you take responsibility for your own actions and not call names like a child. If you go here APU or AMU you will WORK for your degree and there are no easy rides. I have taken courses distance from Harvard Extension that were far less challenging than AMU. The instructors at AMU are exceptional and difficult. They are here to work you not give you a mental diaper so keep that in mind. It is tough. The work is rigorous and intense. If you cannot handle such work on your own distance then no this is not the school for you. If you attended and simply could not cope under pressure that is something else so please do not attempt to degrade my school over it as such actions are unfair to this great institution and those of us who succeeded by going here.
Tip for consumers:
Be prepared to work hard, and learn a lot in the process. If you are looking for a mental diaper I suggest going elsewhere.
One of the most well respected online universities - they have received awards from the prestigious Sloan Consortium and are very well respected in the fields of homeland security, intelligence and public safety (to name a few). Staff is extremely helpful and there is a great support network for students. Highly recommended...
I have attended online and hybrid classes in the past from a real school and never had any problems as I have at this place. I can say it was the worse experience ever. The course material did not match the lesson and I had a different textbook that did not go along with the class, I emailed the instructor to inform him and he did not respond in a timely fashion, and when they did it was two words. WTH. If you are willing to teach yourself and write 10-15 page papers with no direction, then this is the right place for you.
This has the potential to be a great program. There are numerous professor who clearly love what they do and have a passion for their discipline. However, there are far too many that are clearly there for a pay check. Ive personally researched many who are teaching too many classes both at APUS and other online schools. And it shows in the lack of participation in class discussion, duplication of feedback to students, long response times to emails, and subpar and confusing feedback on assignments. The Staff is unprofessional and dismissive of legitimate concerns. They utter lack of concern regarding students education makes this University not worth the investment for those wo truly desire a meaningful academic experience
Hard work and self-discipline are required when taking online courses. I worked my butt off and had earned both a BA and an MA in History at APUS. I found the majority of Professors I had to be very helpful and did not experience anywhere near the issue's others have posted on this site with my classes, and or for that matter, Financial Aid either. Over the years I have attended brick and mortar schools, both traditional and expedited, and can tell you I never had to work as hard to accomplish my goals. It took self-discipline and determination to achieve what I did not expect others to hand over.
Honestly, if you want to attend a reputable college and receive your funding on time, stay far away from this university! The financial aid department is horrible! No one seems to care that they are playing with your money and that you are depending on those funds. You will continuously have problems with the financial aid department. Your funds will not be disbursed on time and you will not receive the amount you anticipated (that is stated on your ledger). You will experience great stress dealing with individuals who are supposed to be professional in this department. Please, do yourself a favor, and stay far away from all the hassles that the financial aid department hands out. Oh, one last thing, do not expect any reply back from the school, especially the financial aid department, if you email them. Your efforts are worthy and justified, but the response back is nonexistent.
First I did not use financial aid, so I cannot comment on most of the comments here. What I did do is apply myself to my classes and I got a very worthwhile education. The faculty was very accessible and quick to respond when I had questions. My firm readily recognized my fully accredited degree.
When you have to do a quality review on your class while taking the class, it makes it hard. Military people know how to deal with bumps in the road and will find a way to succeed. When you do not have much help from the "Professor" that does not want to do their job, that is a different problem. When you have to go and fix quizzes and make sure the grades are correct after every single assignment on top of everything, it is time to find a new school. They do not care about a class or student, just the money that keeps rolling in, find a better school.
Please if you register with this school pay attention to your loans. They change fees without notice, Financial aid will not tell you to register for all your classes at each term. Financial aid is the most unprofessional here. They are for the military and the money. As of this month, they are still under investigation with my loan services. They screwed me and 2 other students out of their degree. Also when loan or disbursements come to you make sure that you check and make sure they have not left you with a balance! I wouldn't recommend this bs school to anyone. Also keep records of who you talk to..
If you had an issue handle it like an adult. I took my first class at AMU right after 9/11 via dial-up. It was exceptional. Ten years later returned and I graduated with a science degree at AMU with honours. So I see no valid excuses here. I am sick and tired of the babies on here crying they they could not succeed at APUS. If there was an issue in my experience APUS and the instructors handled it immediately. As for the work the instructors are not there to do your work for you. They are teaching you not the other way around. You are either willing and able to do the work in a timely fashion on your own or you do need to attend elsewhere. There is no hand holding. The instructors are top in their field.
After earning my first master's degree with APUS a few years ago, I have returned to earn another in an adjacent discipline. The real-world knowledge I gained in my studies had a monumentally positive impact on my career. As for any naysayers about this institution (all universities have them), I say that as with any venture, your benefit is dependent upon the effort you put in!
Instructor FiFi selects students to elevate and others to suppress. Even though my assigned APA style essays and papers were correct, this instructor choose the grades she thought each student should receive. She showed favoritism to the students with European names and scam points of students without European names. This school and its instructors are biased towards students. This is not only insulting it is illegal and requires legal action.
I did my research before attending this school and verified that it is an accredited institution. I finished my undergraduate degree here after having my previous credits transferred over. In 2022, I received my bachelor degree and I am in the Master's program now. I have had zero issues. (It's recommended that you get a counselor to help you through the process. I did.)
Tip for consumers:
Ask for a guidance counselor to help you along through the process and ensure you are taking the right courses for your program.

I received my MPA in 2012 from APU and found the experience to be very rewarding. Rec'd a raise and have since moved into another career on the strength of that degree!
Apus is definitely not a scam but the quality of courses is very erratic. I first enrolled in the MPH program and was shocked to see that several courses such as Public Health Ethics had nothing to do with population-based health but were obviously re-purposed from the Nursing program because they addressed individual patient care situations. You are left on your own to find a practicum - good luck with that if you live in small cities or rural areas. I then transferred to another degree program and teacher involvement is very erratic. Most will respond reactively, a few get very involved - and a minority not at all. I had one instructor who made not one comment and on the final 15 page paper, wrote "Looks great! You had a bibliography" and then attached the name of a different course. I personally found the Forums to be unhelpful - most students just regurgitate what the text said with no insights. But if you are self-motivated and aggressively seek out resources, you can turn it to your advantage.
