I signed up for ESET security and was hacked in 3 months. You can't talk to any one on the phone. They don't even give an email address. I never had problems with the free antivirus programs. Waste of money
I selected ESET when PC magazine described it as a superior security system. As a professional book editor I wanted to protect both myself and my clients from malware.
I particularly like the ability to select specific times when updates are shipped so that they don't coincide with my work hours.
I often recommend ESET and stress its flexibility and value in catching and clearing genuinely dangerous malware threats.
Because my tech knowledge is not extensive, it's important to me to have this solid backup.
Being able to have live chat help would be a great addition -- would help me understand the many tech matters, often elemental ones, that I'm not familiar with,
I got a notification of a suspicious sign in on my computer from eset rather than than blocking the sign in and now I cannot get in my own computer and they have not replied for almost a week to help me nor do they have a cost center anymore nor do they have a chat of any sort to help those affected and yet it is a known vulnerability did they have not fixed. Zero stars
Tip for consumers:
Do not use anything but Microsoft! And I hate MS but they are by far the best especially if you have window 10 but better yet 11.

Although the staff at eset done their best to help, and their customer services was second to none, they just did not have the knowledge to overcome my eset firewall problem. I have paid for 2 years for 2 computers and have nothing for my money. 1 member of staff at eset blamed my 2 computers, when the only thing they had in common was eset. I have given them plenty of time to solve this problem before writing this review. Think carefuly before buying. There are too many other companies offering security.
After having ESET for years I needed to renew my protection. Not being that technological of course I needed their help. The support was abominable. No patience at all for someone who is not computer savy. They used to be very helpful but my last experience had me almost to tears. "Jake was nasty and sarcastic telling me I can't teach you how to use your computer" when I needed help downloading an updated virus program. I was never treated like that before. He had control of my computer and I know could have done this for me. If you are not very computer savy and If you ever get Jake for support HANG UP or END THE CONVERSATION ON CHAT. He is awful. Disgusting despicable horrible support.
My experience with this business was terrible. The main issue is that I have tried & tried to uninstall it & it just doesn't happen. I contacted consumer relations. The representative sent me instructions on "how to remove the software". The info I received was "How to INSTALL ESET"!
Tip for consumers:
Don't go there!
I downloaded their Antivirus trial from their own website on my computer to see if I liked it before buying. CNET had rated it at a 4.5 out of 5. This nearly wrecked my computer. It told me of a virus and that it had disabled drivers and I had to download a program from Microsoft which I tried to do. It appeared to be a Microsoft website. It claimed I had to save it to a CD. It wouldn't save so I went out and bought a larger capacity set and it wouldn't copy. I have no problem with this normally.
This website then sent me an alert pop up message regarding a program on my computer that was reliable and they claimed the whole program was not virus. Infected but was a virus itself.
I had to do a system restore three times to remove this Antivirus. During one system restore, another pop up message appeared saying that ESET had been removed from my computer. What? I had to use CCleaner to get all the remaining registry keys and the 14 hidden files off my computer before the system restore worked.
8-3-23: This company seems to RESPECT and HONOR users needs and priorities. While they disable updates if you do not pay, the program still works but with old virus signatures, unlike many companies that try to screw up your computer because you don't pay up after the trial (unprofessional). One problem with ALL AV software is that the hackers are getting better and are forcing users to use OS images when online such that any changes made are reversed at reboot. IOW, you don't get infected in the FIRST place so there is nothing to clean. I think traditional aV programs that rely on scans using signatures are on the way out.
Give us a program that JUST WORKS out of the box. We don't have time to spend hours configuring your 1000 and one settings. Do not download updates without permission it slows the computer down to make it inoperable. A tendency to identify false positives or things to worry about that are not a problem. We don't LIVE to use your program. It's just a tool, not our life's work ok? Supposedly eset has a very good detection rate so that much is good. The system scan is too slow, takes hours on a system that is not that large, hd of 500gb. Should not have to wait 3 or more hours for a decent scan. Scanning of compressed files should be OFF by default, there is no reason to scan them.
I've used ESET and had my entire family on ESET for years. Not only is it the best AV I've used, it's got every feature you'd want and then some. One note to anyone installing ESET, ALWAYS make sure any antivirus software or demo or trial of any sort is uninstalled from your computer before you install this software. It will break Windows. You can fix it, but you at times won't even be able to log in. So install it with no previous AV software on your computer and follow the instructions. It will protect your computer from most threats on the internet, but there is no AV software on the market, and never will be, that can protect you from everything. First and best line of defense is YOU. I find ESET combined with Malwarebytes to be a formidable combination of programs to protect you, but no matter what you have to protect you program wise, if you click the wrong link you will be infected. So educate yourself, don't click on obvious ads, and always, always read the fine print.
Good Luck!
