Is it safe to rent? The property owner has been on since 2010 and no reviews?

That's a toss up... Kinda like eBay with sellers and no feedback... In general... I don't trust Home away anymore than I can throw em... cuz they are gonna side with their rentors and not you...

I agree that no references raise a red flag. I'm surprised people say that HomeAway doesn't allow negative references, though, since I often see them while looking through rentals. At the very least, if the property you're interested in looks great, ask why there are no references. You could also ask the owners for the names of previous renters and you can give them a call. All that's a lot of work when there may be other advertised rentals that do paint a good picture of the prospective rentals!

I wouldn't. Try housetrip.com. I have had nothing but good experiences witht this site.

I could not get my negative review onto Home Away. Nor could I get any satisfaction from them with regard to my complaint. Take this and all the overwhelming negative reviews as a warning. If no one does business with them they will have to change their policies or, hopefully, fold. Caveat emptor-let the buyer beware!

I consider it a red flag when someone has been renting for a long while and they have no reviews.

Just be aware that home away does not allow negative reviews. If it's me I would never rent from them again but that's my opinion!

The lack of reviews is a BIG tip-off. The place I rented had very few reviews and of course, they were all positive. That's because Homeaway allows only the mildest of negatives. I wouldn't rent from this person.
