Hello - I always wash any fabric product before using - but I use my "gentle" cycle and only cold water without any soap. This always works for me and keeps the fabric in good shape without any chemical products still there.

Bob, there is always a manufacturing finish on cloth materials. And, unfortunately, most finishes will contain chemical residue that you may be allergic to; so wash all clothing and bed linens you purchase.

Believe it or not chemicals are used in the process of making the cloth sometime formaldehyde and the dyes. I wash everything that I sleep on or wear before putting them on.

You should always wash everything before using it due to the finish and the dye in the fabric.

So many fabric items say to wash before wearing/using. I purchased 2 coverlets for my guest room and I did not wash them before using. I think the purpose of washing is too remove the finish from the fabric but since the coverlets will not be directly on the skin or into a child's mouth, I see no reason to launder prior to using. Some people are allergic to the finishing product so the company is suggesting washing to cover themselves. Go into a fabric store and you can smell the finishing product.

Hello fellow j&m customer, my thoughts about washing clothing, linens or just about anything I buy... is to clean away any kind of dyes or chemicals that can be used in manufacturing. You have a cleaner and softer garmet or linens. Your skin and nose will thank you.

I don't know unless it is shrinkage, or fading of color. Surely not. I would call and ask their customer service.
