Kahuti has a rating of 3.9 stars from 25 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally satisfied with their purchases. Reviewers satisfied with Kahuti most frequently mention next door, and privacy issues. Kahuti ranks 32nd among Social Network sites.
No privacy issues, lots of categories. As had been said you choose your distances. Made extra special by the owners open communications and wanting to know what users actually want. Free ads for local businesses, + users can post real reviews, which are kept all in one place. In less than two weeks numbers have really grown and already made some new friends. Totally recommended.
I went over to Kahuti almost immediately as streetlife closed and at first it seemed a viable alternative with responsive owners and friendly members. Then, after a year the owners ignored us and the bullying and back biting got completely out of hand. So did the lack of privacy as people's personal details were plastered online and private messages were published. When it reached its peak the owner finally stepped in and managed to make it worse. The site now states No new members accepted! What a way to run a social forum.

Unlike Next door that limits your range and risks your security by exposing address details Kahuti is secure allowing you to use an alias and supply only the minimum details you feel comfortable with. Conversations are not limited to any geographical area but you can limit your area of interest down to 1 mile, so you can easily see local discussions, or from a much wider range to see what's going on around you.
It's a young site with growing user numbers mainly because so far the users have all been friendly and welcoming and the developers have been very attentive to user requests, enhancing the site to do what we want.
I really like Kahuti... seems to be growing day by day. I find it easy to navigate on my mobile. Owners rapidly offer support if you encounter problems and are are responsive to constructive criticism. Range of topics is becoming more varied. Quite a lot of people in my local area but have learnt a lot from those further afield. Give it a try
I joined Kahuti when street life closed and I did not like the privacy issues on Next door nor the attitude of the people running it. It is still in it's infancy and is developing everyday. The developers are very responsive, answering all questions promptly and changing things as quickly as they can. It is getting a real sense of community and I have already had some success with questions I have raised. If more people join I am confident that it will eventually be even better than street life.
When Streetlife was closed down, I like many others, joined the advertised alternative - Nextdoor. Very quickly I discovered that there were many serious privacy issues and promptly left but fortunately, not before being told about Kahuti which, although still being developed, is much better in every way. The developers are friendly and responsive and privacy is maintained. As far as I am concerned, this will now be my local social media vehicle of choice.
Was on Streetlife and loved it, but quickly discovered that NextDoor were nowhere near as careful with your privacy and provided very poor customer feedback, preferring to block comments that were negative about them, or promoting of other community sites. KAHUTI is an oasis by comparison. Friendly, helpful, local and the developers are on there checking what is needed or wanted and responding to any support issues very quickly indeed. Tell all your Streetlife friends and your community will quickly bounce back (ours has). Just Brilliant!

What a way to run a social forum.
Kahuti has filled the void left by the demise of Streetlife. It is also without the safety and security issues which Nextdoor places all of its members in by default.
Kahuti are actually a hard working group for people attempting to make a (so far) brilliant website even better. They listen, they respond and where possible implement changes proposed by the members. The area you set for yourself determines what you see and who you communicate with. I was sad when Streetlife closed, I'm now happy they closed, Kahuti is far superior.
Kahuti has recently opened its doors in the UK and is growing in leaps and bounds. Privacy is assured, as you need give no personal details, just a rough idea of your location. Neighbourhood size can be set to between 1mile and 25 miles, so if your own area is quiet you should still be able to connect with someone a bit further away. Give it ago, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain
Like everyone else I mourned the loss of Streetlife and was so happy to find Kahuti because I didn't like Nextdoor showing my details to the world but wanted to keep chatting to people in my area. As someone who isn't that knowledgeable of social web sites I find Kahuti easy to use and everyone on there is so helpful if I get stuck. I really like that it's run by a family not a big company and that it has free postings for our local charities and businesses. I hope lots more people join in.
From Streetlife to Next Door and finally to Kahuti.com. A really sense of community can be found on Kahuti and anybody who enjoyed Streetlife will love this site. In it's infancy but the team behind the scenes are happy to listen to feedback and ideas and the site is ever evolving to please it's customers (us). No privacy issues, and you can enjoy conversations with members up to 25 miles away. Give it a try!
The site is excellent and there is a lot of nice people but lately we have had a cache of sock puppets who have tried to spoil the site. There is one review on here that starts with a lie as the person in question joined just a couple of weeks ago not from the beginning. Sad as rival sites are trying to spoil it.
It claims to be a site for local people but the location range is huge. I know you can narrow it down but it doesn't stop other people from up to 25miles away from you reading and commenting on your post. It isn't local at all. Not many of the posts are regarding local issues either, it is actually more of a forum for people to discuss whatever pops into their head. I know the site is new but I'm quite disappointed - not what it claims to be.
I think Kahuti is a great place to chat to people and to find out information about your local area.
I can chat about the days news and find out about local road closures.
Very good functionality.
The last few weeks have had an influx of people from a rival site causing problems on fake accounts but this has been dealt with now and the site continues to flourish.
I thought all was lost when I lost my friends on Streetlife. Nextdoor certainly wasn't for me! Too intrusive and unsafe. The Founders of Kahuti are hands on and accessible. They listen to what the community need and act on it. If you haven't joined then please, do yourself a favour. Go to www.kahuti.com and join an old fashioned community to ask about local trades or where to buy something or how to do something. Or just to meet new people. Organise a get-together and put the pics up. Enjoy.
This so called social forum is a disgrace and an insult to the intelligence of those trying to join it. It now allows
No new members?
What type of social forum is that Mr Sterling Jackson: owner of this site.
What a mess. He has a few argumentative admins. The worst being a guy called Brian and his sidekick Catherine and instead of removing them he closes the membership. Is this a fairy story?
Kahuti is a brilliant replacement for Streetlife.
The site is user friendly and has great potential to enhance communication in the community.
I like Kahuti for its clarity. The most important thing is that it protects personal data and also allows you to connect with others in a safe and meaningful way.
What a waste of time, mumsnet recommendation and actually a bunch of kids insulting each other.
Stay well clear as any "real" site would have a management who would get involved and stop these sort of childish antics and one up manship / womanship

I joined Kahuti hoping it will replace the excellent Streetlife. So far so good. It needs more members to really flourish. Hoping the word will be spread far and wide, as it is easy to use and has great potential.
Kahuti is a US business so you have no privacy assurances and no UK Data Protection laws covering you. Nothing is ever free, so watch out what data you have provided to this business as there's nothing to stop them selling it to whoever they want.
By doing business in the UK we are bound by UK data governance laws. Our business model is outlined in our About Us section which revolves around providing local businesses with advertising in a separate marketplace in a manner that doesn't need or use personal data.
For all displaced Streetlifers not ok with Next Door which has recently taken it over or anyone wanting to be more connected on their community. I joined Next Door and due to it's lack of regard to safety and privacy I promptly left and then found Kahuti. It is early days yet as only just started in UK and so far I am the only member in my area (Portslade, Brighton) but it will soon grow and I hope will become as useful as Streetlife was. The privacy is good and the owners do seem to want to listen to customers (unlike Next Door).
Joined here after the sale of streetlife and am so pleased with everything.
Website support is second to none and would highly recommend. Even better than streetlife in my opinion...
The developers are very responsive and are working hard to improve Kahuti in line with feedback from users. There is no requirement to enter a full name and Kahuti will accept pseudonyms and a general location, so the privacy concerns with Nextdoor do not arise and there is no pressure from the site.
There are no Community Leaders so any conversations are open and uncensored. Everyone has been respectful in my community, so it hasnt been a problem. Areas viewed can be customised and easily changed between 1 and 25 miles and different areas can be viewed. Users are not bombarded with e-mails every time there is a post; there is the option of a daily summary (requested by users) and thats it. Users are not constantly badgered by the site to recruit neighbours. Free business listings are encouraged as are recommendations for reliable tradesmen.
Kahuti is being developed rapidly and has the potential to be even better than Streetlife. It has been warmly received, numbers are increasing daily and Kahuti communities are starting to spring up all over the country.
Kahuti appears to be the most suitable and popular of the replacements for Streetlife. The speed of development and response times show the founders are fully engaged with the site and they are now talking about mail shots to increase the number of users. This appears to be a serious site with the intention of remaining for the long term. I use Kahuti daily and look forward to it growing.
If you were on Streetlife and are looking for an alternative to Nextdoor, this looks like the best option. If not, it is still worth having a look.
Tip for consumers:
Tell your friends.
This site is a dead end. No one can join. Its a closed shop. Why is it still there at all. Get rid of it. The owner must have a screw loose.
Stay in the loop about what's happening in your community. Local news, crime & safety, recommendations, lost & found, jobs, local deals, classifieds, local events and more!
Sorry to hear that you were disappointed. The distance options are meant to give people control over what area they see based on what they feel is 'local' to them as some areas are denser and some are more spread out.
We have many categories and are constantly refining our approach to help people see what they're interested in whether it's strictly local issues or they are interested in general banter with people nearby.
Here's what our home page says. I feel that it accurately encompasses what we are doing but I'd love to hear suggestions if you feel that it needs more clarity!
"Kahuti is about discovering what's happening near where you live or work, not just in your neighborhood but your surrounding community. Everything you'll see on Kahuti is based on location. You can choose the distance (between 1 and 25 miles) where you want to see alerts, events, conversations, deals and more in that area and if you're working, traveling or planning a trip, Kahuti can instantly switch to another location to see what's happening there."
