on 8/9/15The reason why i gave a bad review was because i ordered a phone for my wife, An I-phone 5 and NewEgg.com only sent a box with the manual and a charger for the phone. I called NewEgg.com and explained to them and they stated i needed to wait while they investigate, they never got back to me so i called them again. The person i talked to put me on hold then came back to me and stated she was checking this what was going on and kept putting me on hold for a total of 45 minutes to only come back and tell me that i need to send them a picture of the box and contents. I have no clue what my wife or children did with the box now i am screwed. 219.00 down the drain. This was the first and last purchase i will make until the get this straight.
Buying something like a TV online is a dicey risk.If you need to return it the shipping costs will kill you, you cant exactly drop it off at the local store for a replacement, if it needs repair, same problem. Newegg will drag out a refund till the last moment. They have control not you.To earn as low a rating as they have, they have very much deserved it. Who says they wont pull a stunt like claiming its another seller selling through them so its not their responsibility, and too bad the seller wont help? They did that to me.
I have bought many computer related items from Newegg.ca without any issues and all great quality (although I know computers and only buy top grade parts). I have never had to return anything. However, I have not bought large electronics items such as TVs and the only reservation I have is packaging. Specifically, if the item is packaged well enough so that the TV is undamaged during shipment if the shipper treats it rough. I do not think that it would be an issue and even if it is damaged, the return policies at Newegg are great. You should not have any issues. Read some of the reviews from people that have bought TVs there and call customer support for further assurance. Cheers!
I cannot speak for why others are providing negative reviews for NewEgg. I judge that people who have unfavorable experiences may be more likely to write a review than those who neutral or positive experiences. Perhaps that is why. Regardless, If the ratio or percentage of reviews is better for one online provider than another, that may be a fair comparison. That's said, I'd recommend that you shop around. I think it likely that you will find other cost-competitive online providers with more favorable ratings. I wish you good luck!
I stopped ordering from Newegg altogether because of my experience trying to order a TV from them. If you feel like you have to order something from them, I would suggest not attempting anything that cost more than you're willing to lose or anything that is larger than a small box. (It still makes me mad just to think about my experience).
Their customer service is very slow to respond to many issues. Saying "I am sorry" is NOT customer service. They seem to have no mechanism to distinguish between different types of problems and what issues might need to be expedited/escalated. If things work smoothly people tend to be happy, when they do not their solutions are hollow, too late and ineffective.
Long story short, I bought an ROG751 gaming laptop from them that was defective out of the box. I had to fight with their customer service for nearly a month to even be able to return it. I had to go back and forth between them and Asus. Asus would fix it under warranty, but I had to pay more money. Newegg said is wasn't their fault it was defective and I had to talk to Asus. After they finally agreed to do a refund, they didn't want to do a full purchase amount. I had to pay shipping fees and re-stocking fees. Restocking is what concerned me most, as this implies they are going to re-sell broken merchandise. I disputed the charge with my bank and they put the money back into my account the same day. Newegg actually threatened to close my account with them because of this. I don't buy from them anymore. There are so many better and more reliable options for electronics and parts now, I can't believe they treat so many people like they have no other options.
IMO, the answer to your question is that Newegg seems to have issues other e-tailers do not. (And, yes, people that have BAD experiences WILL post more often than those that do not.) That certainly does NOT diminish the facts that caused the post in the first place. Most posts try to prevent the same thing from happening to others (like you) more than to just "vent" their frustrations. So, the judgement on whether to believe or not is ultimately up to you, the reader. Just ask yourself, why do SO MANY not like Newegg? I purchase technology products daily for companies and have had more problems with NE than the others combined. Shipping times are terrible. NO GUARANTEE of exchanges for anything, even though their ads clearly state they will "exchange, or refund", if needed. Receiving anything purchased from Newegg within a few days is impossible. It WILL take 2-3 days just to "process" your order. Do NOT be swayed by their daily "specials" either. There is good reason they have them! BUYER BEWARE from Newegg!
I think a lot of the negative customer experiences are related more to buying from third party sellers on their marketplace, rather than Newegg themselves. Just like Amazon or eBay, not all third party sellers are going to be good and/or legit. You just have to be cautious and do a little bit more "digging" on the seller(s), if you are unsure. All of my personal experiences purchasing from Newegg have been great. Of course, I am not trying to speak for everyone else. Just throwing in my 2 cents.
I've had my own businesses for about two decades. I've found the the measure of a retailer is not whether or not they make mistakes, but, how they handle them. Newegg has zero, and I do mean, zero customer service. With "chat" you start out #500 to #1,000 in the queue. With telephone you wait on hold for at least 30 minutes to one full hour, to connect to a service(?) representative that has no access to the basic information necessary to provide decent customer service. I even spoke to a supervisor that had no more access to relevant information than the rep and no power to offer anything but platitudes. That has been my experience and I will never spend one thin dime with that company ever again.
Hi Jeffrey, I'll venture a guess here: newegg's service has gone into the toilet... I left the USA in 2007 so my last purchase from them would have been in 2006. Then, you would NEVER see so many 1-star reviews. I'd say that the numbers speak for themselves. It was not like this before. What a shame to hear... smh
