Their strength is probably their rental car service. You can find some great deals with Orbitz. However it appears that Orbitz/Expedia/Kayak/Travelocity have the exact same hotel prices. It's not really a bargain.
I booked a car rental through Orbitz and was quoted a price of $157.51 including "all mandatory taxes and fees". I ended up being charged $302 by Thrifty. I contacted Orbitz several times. Orbitz claimed that they contacted Thrifty and Thrifty told them the charge was correct. Orbitz refused to do anything else to resolve the issue. DO NOT TRUST THE PRICES QUOTED BY ORBITZ!

I ended up with an $800 credit due to their website downgrading my flight. They won't give a refund, only a credit. When I went to use the credit, the cost of my one-way flight jumped from $538 round trip to $664 ONE WAY. This left me with a $140 credit which they said would be forfeited because it was "small". After squawking, they relented and left me with the credit. I'll frankly never use it because I will NEVER use them again. Customer service process is awful and you'll give up out of despair. They are little more than thieves.

Flight was cancelled, getting our refund has been like pulling teeth. Will never work with Orbitz again, they act as an obstacle to talking to the airlines directly which would be so much easier in receiving our refund.
More than a month ahead, I booked premium economy tickets to NYC -- including specific seats. I have it in writing. But I don't have those seats, it turns out, because Orbitz never confirmed the seats with the airline. Instead of the window and aisle that I booked, we'll be in 2 middle seats -- obviously not together. Orbitz is very apologetic -- and agrees that it's their fault -- but they're not prepared to do anything to remedy the situation. The lesson is clear: skip Orbitz and book directly with the airline.
I used Orbitz for a number of years. It was ok only. Prices were competitive, but I'd always wondered whether they were one of those websites who would display certain airlines first before everyone else or not include very many results from certain airlines because they didn't have any sort of backroom agreement. I never had a cancellation in my plans so can't validate all of these poor reviews. However, once I found Kayak, which seems pretty equal in showing the best fares, I abandoned Orbitz.
I used Orbitz for booking flights for several years but stopped using them about a year ago. Service was going downhill. We would receive incorrect information in their updates and little satisfaction by talking with their customer service reps. Too bad, because they used to be ok, but now I'd recommend finding a different company for online reservations.
Cynically placating at best and condescending at their worst--the customer service experience through Orbitz was absolutely horrendous. They were absolutely not cooperative in assisting me with a flight cancellation, and now I am forced to contact an insurer and file a claim. Look elsewhere for booking your travel plans!
This company is an utter piece of garbage.
Twice this week I have found that cancelling a flight and getting a legitimate refund from them is an exercise of utter insulting stupidity and dishonesty. They will block you every step of the way with technical glitches on their site, robot answering machines, idiotic chat dialogues, stupid irrelevant questions, and actual agents who are worse than useless, do not even know how to cancel a flight and leave you on hold for half an hour.
I will never give this company my money again, they do not deserve our business whatsoever

Orbitz SUCKS, Booked Flight, Hotel & Car Via Orbitz. Had a four night stay in Flagstaff A. Z@ Quality Inn. Had to leave after 2 days, The room was just dirty. Front desk told me to get refund from Orbitz. Just getting run around from Orbitz. They said they paid hotel all ready. Hotel refuses to refund me. Informed manager will be back in 1 week?. What Bull $#*!. Orbitz basically told me I am screwed for the 2 days. Use Hot wire. Or Hotels. Com. Got really tired talking to third world rep from Orbitz. Who's English sucked also.

I bought at Orbitz a family trip ( 5 persons) and all flights has been cancelled.
I was out of my country and made many long distance calls to both Orbitz ans the airline company to help me to get back home.
Spent hours at the phone but they did NOT helped me and also dont offer at least a refund? Looks like a joke. I have paid, service was NOT provided and they said " Sorry, we cant do anything." See you guys at Court house.

Orbitz advertised one price for airline tickets, but was going to charge me 50% more when in the purchase process. Long story behind this short summary, but suffice to say the company is not customer friendly and consistently misleads in its advertising. Had a bad experience with Orbitz a few years ago, but decided to give them a another chance (maybe there was a genuine misunderstanding the first time). Big mistake! This company is flat out dishonest.
Our flights were delayed twice, each time by a day. Both times, Orbitz booked my mother and grandma on different flights. My grandma is old an cannot travel by herself. Orbitz spent 3 hours saying they would help me and then not arranging anything. Delta is telling us the Orbitz has to postpone the return flight because of the delay. They are refusing, saying they cannot move the return flight later as there are no economy tickets left on any days in the future. I checked on Delta and Orbitz and there are many flights available. Total scam! Avoid at all costs! Support was not given by Pamela.

Customer service is outsourced to India. Agents are difficult to understand. They obviously cant understand us either as they inadvertently cancelled my flight and would not take responsibility. I will never use them again
Its a scam ridden company run by unethical and rude people. Their agents are highly incompetent and they even dont speak proper English. I made changes to an itinerary from SFO to India, spoke with 2 of their agents and once both confirmed that the total amount would be $ 231.83, went ahead and made the changes. But in the credit card statement, I was charged $460. When I called them back, I had to spend 2 more hours going over the same story again and again with 5 different people with no resolution. Their manager was very rude. And was trying to prove that I am ignorant and dont know the rules. She said she will investigate on the incident and get back within a week, but she never came back. Will never book tickets through them again, I lost $230 because of these unethical guys.
The customer service representatives, almost by design, are trained to frustrate you. You ask a simple question and they will respond with a completely irrelevant and unrelated answer. Either they are all completely incompetent or are trained to mislead and cause confusion. Every call can eat up 45 minutes to an hour. The hotel coupon offers don't work for most of the hotels or seem to stop working well before their expiry date. Lots of gimmicks and diversions to give you the false impression that you are getting good deals. Most unpleasant experience overall!
Since the merger with Expedia it's been one terrible experience after another. Am not sure how they stay in business. I have been with Orbitz for 15 years and the past two years has been totally a nightmare when using them. Double charges, no communication with vendors and completely useless customer service. No more!
Well, seems like many have the issue I had. I purchased insurance when I booked my flight and hotel package, in the event of cancellation. I had to cancel and all orbitz will tell me is that I can schedule another trip within a year, which is the same thing delta offered without any insurance purchased. And their vacation waiver terms do not specify this policy at all, they actually imply a refund for cancellation.
So all they do is make some money off their customers for no insurance offered at all.
Keep away if possible
The worst customer service experience in my entire life. Took months to get an answer on the phone and then hours and hours of trying to work with them to ca result of nothing. They are using the pandemic to excuse refusing refunds. They sent me an email confirming the refund and then changed their minds! So sad a company has to do that to customers despite my spending countless hours on hold and back and forth with different representatives who had no authority. Finally the corporate rep simple refused to help me.

I have used Orbitz for many years without much trouble but my most recent experience was so bad I will avoid them in the future. I tried to use airline credits with them and at first they wanted to charge $500 ea more than my credits even though I found flights for $100 ea more. I ended up making a reservation to reserve a price, which I had 24 hrs to cancel. After 5 more calls I ended up paying full price for my flights with the credit never being applied. Additionally there hold times were 2-3 hrs and one time they called me back 3 hours later only to put me on hold for another 30 minutes. Absolutely horrible.

I attempted to use my airline credits to rebook a flight. The customer service agents were rude and ineffective. I talked to six agents within two days. One agent obtained my details and then proceeded to put me on hold for over 30 minutes with no explanation. Another agent insinuated I was a liar after I told them I had spoke to four previous agents.
Here is the real issue. You can't get a manager. I was told I would need to wait three hours. I waited for an hour before they hung up on me. This is a common complaint that you will read on other reviews.

This is a good website for locating prices on hotels and airlines. However, when I called them, the wait time was over 45 minutes to speak to a live representative. They basically do not want you to call them and do everything online; yet they say they provide excellent customer service. They do not.

Until you have to deal with their customer service agents everything is fine, but once you find out what an ordeal its to deal with them and how they lie to you after you talk to them you realise that this place is only good as long as you never run into a problem.
I was just booking a flight from Portland to Manila. Two months out so it is not a flight leaving soon. I selected that cheap flight and had entered my credit card and personal info but when it went to charge my card, it said the flight was no longer available. Really! I think the site posts flights that are not available so they can get your information. Be carefull.
