“Great Value. No problems”

Mike M.

Rented a pickup truck at McCarran Airport in Vegas for our bike trip to Utah. Booked through Hotwire and I was worried that Thrifty would not have a truck for us. I called to confirm the week before and was told "yes, pickup truck" Whe we got to the pickup counter, they said they didn't have trucks, but the office manager came down with keys to a full-sized Dodge 1500 that had been specially brought in for us. Great price, perfect truck. Excellent service.

“Insurance dispute”

I have an insurance dispute. I asked for a call back three times. No one will call me back. They just wante to do it through email. If I can't talk to person, I will never rent from this company again. Once they get your money they don't want to deal with you

Pre-paid for a rental through WiseCars plus an extra $60 for a damage waiver through their affiliate Rentalcars, in early May for the Memorial Day weekend in Boston. A few weeks later I spotted a charge of $139.96 from Thrifty for a "Damage Waiver." I did not accept nor did I approve of a Damage Waiver charge of $139.96. Why would I? I had already purchased protection through Wisecars (receipt attached). When my son and I showed up at the Rental Centre at Logan hundreds were lined up. We waited 20' or so to get to the desk. I presented my voucher from Wisecars to the Thrifty woman. All seemed well. She rattled off the types of cars we might get and I queried that because I understood from the original booking process it was to be a VW. She replied it could be a VW (turned out to be a Nissan). She did explain the gas replenishment options -- i.e. Fill up yourself or fill up at their pump. She explained the fee for the toll booths. All good. She did NOT offer a damage waiver. And if she had done, I would have truthfully and firmly informed her we'd already bought and paid for it through Rentalcars. Complaining to Thrifty later they finally presented the signed rental agreement which did have the Damage Waiver as an item (it was a very long, very detailed on "store-receipt" type flimsy paper with 5 or 6 separate items which I should have read carefully -- I just never imagined they'd add something I didn't agree to). So the Thrifty woman had added it without my knowledge -- essentially my word against hers. But again -- why would I agree to a DW charge when I'd already paid for it! This was sharp practice on the part of Thrifty. Thanks to Rentalcars for refunding the original $60 DW.

Tip for consumers:
$310.09 extra costs on top of $279.85 booking fee from Wisecars (reasonable in itself) does seem a bit steep for a 72hr car rental. So almost 600 bucks. Especially since $140 of it was NOT approved. Beware the upselling at the counter.

I **PRE-PAID** for a rental. I was REFUSED the rental due to not having a card from a "brick and mortar" bank. I use Chime. I offered to have someone at home give them their card info, I had cash, I had my cards which had money on them, and again THE RENTAL WAS PAID FOR BY ME ALREADY IN FULL. BEWARE they DO NOT care about the customer. They will GLADLY take your money, but then refuse to give the car. Still waiting to hear if I even get a refund.

#1 DO NOT RENT WITH THRIFTY USE LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE #2 If you must rent with Thrifty when you pick up your car DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING! ( also record any and all interactions with their employees) When picking up my car at PDX I was asked by the clerk if I would like to add insurance which I declined. I was then told my card would be charged a deposit that would be held until the car was returned and then it would be released. I was told to sign here to acknowledge the deposit being held until return. According to Thrifty I was actually signing for the insurance which I had just previously declined. Now I have a $277 charge they refuse to refund. Apparently this is common practice for the crooks. https://community.clark.com/t/thrifty-car-rental-scam/922

PAID $56.64 MORE THAN WHAT WAS SHOWN DURING BOOKING. We booked through Thrifty for one day and paid $39.93 at the time of reservation and was due $19.6 at time of rental. We extended the rental for one more day and paid &16.71 and was due $59.76 at time of rental. So total was $136. But they charged us $136,$39.93 and $16.71 which would be total of $192.64. I called customer service and said that they told me that $56.64 was tax but how can they overcharge me $56.64 when on receipt it is shown $136 and when reserving, it is shown that total would be of $136? Can someone SUE THRIFTY for overcharging than what was shown during reservation and claim later that it was tax?

When I initially checked in at the NO airport location, I was told there was a 30 minute wait for a car because they were being cleaned, but that didn't stop Thrifty from putting a hold on my credit card. I asked the clerk how long I would have to continue waiting, and she said really had no answer, very non-responsive and looked like she did not want to be bothered. I know it's a holiday, but you chose your profession, not me. And Thrifty, you need to do better. Your rentals are not cheap and from the way this long line is looking, you can afford to hire more workers to wash cars. OR, stop taking reservations. It's just that simple. NOW, I've been waiting almost 90 minutes.

I would give no stars for dishonest and outright corrupt customer service, if possible. While at the counter, discussing rental package options, I erroneously expected honesty. I had just gotten off a terrible and delayed flight with two children in tow. I said NO to extra charges such as "Premium road side service" and was charged anyway. I did not see this when I signed at the end. Vehicle engine light lit up during our trip, mileage only 67,000 miles. I will never use this dishonest company again. I hope customer loss was worth $60

Literally the most repugnant vehicle I have ever rented in my life.
No one available at pick up for pre-inspection (10am).
Vehicle was filthy, germ ridden, like a builders vehicle it was so dusty!
Would not recommend & will NEVER use thrift store rental again!

I wish there was an option for 0 star. They even don't deserve one star. I have rented more than 100 cars from different car rental companies during the last 10 years. For new year holidays I had to rent a car with thrifty because all other companies didn't have anything available and it was the worst experience ever. Just can say avoid this corrupt company.

Do not! I repeat do not rent from Thrifty Car Rental. They rip you off. Did business with them May 26 - June 2 2019 Orlando Florida Airport terminal. They not only dont give you car or equivalent, they downsize you as well. Car is filthy and gas tank isn't on full. Complain to customer service area manager nasty as well. Tells you this is all we got. Add insult to injury they bill you for each toll administrative cost of $9.99 plus the nominal toll. Your told they can do this 9 times on the invoice in the mail. Never a word about it in person. All this and they make you wait on a line due to lack of help to bilk you out of your hard earned money.

I booked this on Priceline and Thrifty would not honor their price despite the fact I had a receipt. Lets review... cost more, get less, poor customer service and the bills keep on coming once your home. Feels more like a divorce than a good marriage here.

Waited in line over an hour for a car and when we got one, it reeked of smoke! It had 57,000 miles on it and for 57,000 miles there was a smoker in that car and then Thrifty chose to
Give it to a mother and her young son! Thrifty should be ashamed! Our clothes and hair reeked of smoke, my son got sick half way through the trip and no one wanted to go anywhere because we would have to ride in that awful smelling car!

I booked a package through Travelocity, which included a rental car with Thrifty Car Rental. This included a damage waiver. When I got to the counter, I thought the agent was reviewing my package with me, but instead he signed me up for roadside assistance and another damage waiver at double the original price. This added an extra $115 to my 2-day compact car rental which was already $200. When I found out after the trip that this had happened.
The car was filthy and dented when I got it, and no one bothered to look at it with me before we left the lot. It also smelled, so we stuck a clip-on air freshener in the vent.
The company has ignored my requests for a refund. I even went through Travelocity, and they were denied. This is unacceptable.

First off they didn't have the car I requested, then when we had to extend the car rental they did not reimburse us for the tank of gas they said they would give us. Then the stupid lady that helped us extend the contract was so busy telling us about her stupid daughter's wedding that she never bothered to ask us if we would be going on any toll roads which I would have said yes. We got charged $15 every time we went through a toll booth on the Sam Houston parkway so basically it cost 99.75 to get out of Houston. They did a very poor job of extending the contract and explaining everything to us. If I had known all of this we would have left the car there and gotten a ride to the Enterprise rental car company instead. I have a feeling that this company has screwed over a lot of people. Their staff is the most incompetent people I have ever seen. Please I implore you to stay away from Thrifty/Dollar car rental.

I had a rental agreement with Thrifty including all taxes and fees. When I arrived at Dulles in Washington DC at night with my family we were shuttled out to the rental office. They told me I could not use my credit card insurance which I have used for decades in many countries and states. They forced me to accept an additional $700 for insurance and fees. Such a con, and I had no options at that point. I wish the government or someone would do something about this company and industry. A person should be able to know what they are going to be charged before making an agreement.

Rented a luxury car in Phoenix for my father's funeral to drive family around when I came down from Alaska. Car was dirty with used tissues in the console, but the only one they had. A/C went out at 117 degrees. Drove for two hours to return it. They said they would have another luxury car ready. They put me in a Ford Escape saying it was comparable. They had upgrades from a luxury car, but refused anything better than a ford escape. Won't use them again, or any partner. Lots of options out there. Would not recommend anyone use.

I rented the car in my name not knowing that means I am principle driver to Thrifty. My husband does the driving so he was added when we got to Phoenix. Not once did the agent say that to do this it was another 13. Per day plus a 48. Charge to add. My ticket he gave us does not indicate these charges or I would have questioned immediately. He then asked us to top up upon return saying that gas prices around Phoenix airport were around 4.50 a gallon. Not knowing what prices were and Thrifty price was 3.10 so thought it was a bargain. It was only 2.95 we found out so topped up before dropped off. They charged us 49. Extra. Eventually got that removed since they did see it was full but if did not question the charge it would have stayed. They insist they cannot remove the extra driver charge. I believe this company unethical and do not explain charges they add after the fact.

So we rented a SUV for my friend who has MS. Her mother died after she cared for in her home for three years despite her own MS condition. I take her to Utah for the trip she dreamed of and Thrifty threw a $300 service fee on there. They saw we had a service dog but said nothing when we picked up the vehicle. Then when we drop if off they said "didn't you read the terms and conditions?" When the line is backed up for hours who take the time to read that horrendously long list? It's like a bait & switch... never Thrifty again for us. And if they had given us a heads upI would have swept it prior to returning. But upon rental return I had not options. Bad Bad business!

The worst rental car company in the world! Had a reservation booked for over a month got to the airport with reservation and they told us it was a minimum of 2 1/2 hour wait before we could get our car! And there were also 20 to 30 other people who had to wait 2 1/2 to 3 hours to get their car! Unacceptable

Boston Airport 2/17 10:30 pm arrival, had a reservation with Thrifty. We stood in line for 2 hours for our car. 25 people in front of us and 25 behind us and two rental agents, one of which had to find the keys on the keyboard and the other was a social butterfly. I will rent from anywhere other than Thrifty in my future travels. Also, this is a reflection on Hertz Rent a car, they own Thrifty.

Went through Expedia for travel arrangements to my daughter's wedding in Palm Springs, CA. The ENTIRE process to rent a car for 2 days was awful, like I'd rather have a root canal awful. I prepaid, purchased travel insurance, and I was still charged over $650.00 for what should have been easy and convenient. The customer service was deplorable, unfriendly and rude. Will never use this copy again, I'd rather get better service since I'm going to pay for either way.

Pls do not rent from this company they are scammers. They scam you into taking additional fees that are hidden and did not know you are signing for. My bill was 160 and they took 287 from my account because of this additional fees that I was not told about. They are the worst customer service that could not do anything to help. Bought gas still took gas money from my account and they are making you pay rent for where they park their cars at the airport. Don't go there.

I booked a car from Thrifty for July at the Keflavik airport in Iceland. I was quoted a rate of $798 for an automatic van. The agent on the phone confirmed the price and vehicle type. When I got the email confirmation, it was for a manual car at 798 EUROS! I called the Customer Service (pathetic) and waited almost two hours on hold including transfers to three different people. The supervisor confirmed that the agent made two mistakes in the rental. When I asked what they could do to make it right the supervisor said, and I quote, "We'll be sure to reprimand the agent". How do companies like this even stay in business? My advice, look elsewhere for a car...

Rental number *******. We rented a Ford Mustang Convertible for a month. It broke down two weeks later in the middle of the track, even though it had only run 7,000 miles. The transmission has broken down. Thrifty on the website says that help within 90 minutes. We couldn't get through for 3 hours. They charged me $ 200 for the call. When we got through, they sent us a tow truck, but it did not come. I had to call a tow truck myself and go for $ 200 to the nearest hotel, which also cost about $ 200. More than 10 hours have passed. Nobody came. They are going to give me some kind of Nissan as a replacement. A completely different category. The rest is ruined. I incurred losses comparable to the cost of the car. Never rent a car here

BE AWARE: Thrifty Car Rental, without informing its customers, charges them an administrative fee of $ 15 for each toll they pass. I feel very hurt, because their employee (brooklyn-NYC) did not inform me about this extraordinary charge. I am a frequent car renter, and in my entire life this has never happened to me before. I do not recommend this company at all. I called them to report the problem and their SAC laughed at me and refused to help me.
