This is a easy, non-complicated site. I have been looking and applying for jobs and even when the position you apply needs more experience they always respond back with the status of your application, if you weren't selected, they will tell you... Most of the sites where you apply for a job position, they just let you wait forever and never email/call back. I personally think that just the fact they let you know how everything goes with your application is a show of respect..."Respect" lately endangered..
I am a Marine Veteran, I have a bachelor's degree, I have 13 associates degrees, I've been unemployed for 6 months, I've been consistently applying to multiple positions on USAJOBs.gov, and I haven't received one job offer nor a single interview. I'm fed up with this site, how is it that there's so many jobs listed and yet getting hired seems so impossible? This is unacceptable. The system is broken and USAJOBs.gov is another broken site that wastes your energy and time. I had to search reviews to see if I was the only one going through this, but by the looks of all these 1-stars I see that the same experience is very common. No wonder we have so many homeless veterans and homelessness in general. Finding great careers these days seems almost impossible nowadays during especially during this horrible economy. I don't know what I'm going to do, but USAJOBs.gov is a disgrace to the veteran/military community.

Look at the reviews, they say it all. I'll never get the time I wasted on this site back. It's a front for government agencies that are required to post ads but will actually fill them with internal hires, incumbents and friends. Use other sites, become a contractor first, develop relationships with people in your industry, go to jobs fairs... do ANYTHING but waste HOURS for each application here which will end up a dead end.
I used to like to site for at least if you had the right words listed the computer would pass you on to the next stage. Now, it's like the hiring team has found ways to keep the friends employed even if they aren't qualified….hey just copy snd snd paste the job announcement and they will do the rest. Next up is the okey dokey job announcement… you know the one that's open for like 4 or 5 days because they are looking for a particular person….it doesn't matter that there are applicants in the hat. You will never get that job. Then hey the job gets cancelled then resubmitted once again for the same 4 to 5 days only because that guy finally was able to answer his phone and he now can app,y to that particular job. Why bother posting jobs if all you are going to do is hire your buddies to work them? No matter the fact there are several well qualified candidates who applied. Oh yeah…. Let's talk about the multiple resumes you'll need to have at the ready because the jobs that website allows to post openings requires some of the most ridiculous things to be listed within your resume…. And they all want different things listed and different formats. That website gives me anxiety at times. SMH
Absolute waste of life and any effort given... all positions besides less than minimum wage or volunteer work are already filled internally a complete joke. You will wait 6 months for a vague and udder bull$#*! response from people that just want you to go away Veteran or not
Website is a total joke! I apply for positions, only to have them cancel several times and receive requests to try again. Few of the agencies ever update your status. And, I am unsure how they get away with this. I would love to see Dateline or 20/20, do an investigation regarding the government's shady hiring practices.
The website is a joke. If you have to go through all the BS they require just to get rejected time after time, then the jobs being posted don't deserve your services. Especially when you know you meet the qualifications. Twice, I was rejected because they say I put that I would refuse a polygraph, lol. It also came back that I stated that I didn't have a drivers license. The application I filled and printed out showed otherwise. This is not by accident, they have a way of choosing the exact candidates they want for those lousy federal positions... Indeed.com, Zippy, governmentjobs.com, and your city/state job postings are the way to go. USAJobs.gov ain't all that, trust me don't waste your time and energy. You can't even plan your next move waiting on responses from them...
I did everything correctly on my application. Sat down in a workshop about how to complete this long application process. It took me about three days, 5 hours a day, work, research and writing, for two positions.
Used spouse preference.
I was found eligible, but not referred for the position because there were other highly qualified applicants.
Not sure what is more qualified for an administrative position than experience and a masters.
I am done with this website. It is a scam. They hire people the know. They only open the jobs because legally they have to.
Don't bother.
I think you're generally better off just going elsewhere for your job hunt (if online). The sign in process is not user-friendly. The two-factor authentication only provides options for calling or texting your listed number. If it fails to be received, you can click again, but after a few tries, your account will be locked (for 10min at a time). Their only solution is to delete your account and start over as the only means to "reset your preferences". I say, "absolutely useless" and "where's the 0/5 option". Unless someone else can provide me with a solution, I can't recommend USAJobs.gov. Thank you.
I somehow strongly feel that usajobs.gov is a scam funded by the govt. I have been applying foe jobs through the website for over 2 years now. I get a response back that my resume has been referred, but it never goes beyond that. It happened at least over 15 times now. I am beginning to wonder if this website is even legit. After a few months i get a response back saying 'even though you were an eligible candidate we found some one else'. This is even without an interview. How would they now even without talking to me that the other person was a better fit.
I read the comments here and am not at all surprised that people are describing USAJobs in a negative light. 13 applications deep and I arrived nowhere, except where others are describing in the comment chain. I am fully qualified, with 2 degrees, a disabled vet and still can't get a job. So, I am no longer using USAJobs as a source for employment research, nor applying through them. They should be shut down.
I can't effectively filter jobs. To get anywhere with applying, it takes applying to about 500 jobs. That means you need to be able to view and sort jobs efficiently. Instead, USAjobs makes the applicant keep selecting "more jobs" even after filtering for "status," or sorting by "date applied." It only lists a very limited number of jobs. Sometimes that filter disappears if you try to select "more jobs." Given that this system is one big "numbers game," they need to fix this. Veterans don't get a positive response without applying to many, many jobs. Also, the status of "reviewed," is not informative. They changed it to generic "reviewed," when before, it actually said "referred" or "not referee." Now, the applicant bears the burden of clicking each of, say, 100 jobs listed to see status (about three clicks or even more, when Usajobs stops responding and makes the user click three times to get a button to work, which frequently happens.
Tip for consumers:
Be prepared for it not to work
Applying for these jobs has been a complete waste of my time, even though I am qualified but I am not a veteran so if you are like me just don't even bother. Veterans get top pick over everyone else and since there are so many of them your chances are very slim.
I have applied numerous times for jobs and then only to be told you have the qualifications but we mostly hire veterans. Which don't get me wrong is not bad, but surely I have more experience than some of the veterans that apply and a college degree too boot. Don't waste your time applying unless you are a veteran.
I applied to many law enforcement positions. I have a Bachelor's and two associate degrees as well as retire from military as combat veteran. The post often say a Degree can be used if you do not have law enforcement experience. No matter if you are a vet, they will only hire police or one who already has law enforcement experience. They do not hire vets! Many of my friends have stated the same that the site runs off the good ole boy system!
USA JOBS website is a complete mess.
They only cater to military wives who don't have any job experience. You never get referred for jobs, even when you are truly qualified for the position. They need to take this misleading website down.
The majority of people who have GS jobs is through internal connections. Either they know somebody in their military chain, and beware, they're many haters from the military to see you go over them in positions to get a job. I have 2 degrees, and over 24 years experience in management and Human Resources and know all the political bull $#*! in certain people getting the job, you can trash the Equal Opportunity department since they're there to help the ones in charge of hooking up the organization. Never tell someone of your past that works HR about you applying unless you're a grease ball like them kissing up the ranks. USA Jobs is a joke, good luck in finding. Thank God, I retired and did my time, enough with the BS, and happily retired.
This website's hiring process is the worse I have ever encountered! I am a 10-year veteran with a master's degree and I keep getting told that I do not meet their qualifications when I do! This website is a joke and until the government sector gets its process of hiring fixed, I will not be applying again! Come on employers, you need to do better for your veterans!
Tip for consumers:
Don't waste your time on this website!
Very confusing, sometimes doesn't work at all and definitely not user friendly. The 'help desk' is worthless.
A job applicant must use it however, because for many federal agencies it is the only way to apply for federal employment.
As others have pointed out the vast majority of Federal jobs are filled by internal promotions. The Federal bureaucracy (especially OPM) seems to hold private sector employees in utter contempt.
Some of the jobs are ageist, ridiculous with qualifications required that don't align with the pay grade. They make you take long assessments, some want you to not submit your resume but create a completely new resume from their tool. Don't waste your time because no one ever got a well paying government job through this website. I have only ever been offered a hint of a morsel and it was a job with the TSA that I didn't apply for. No thanks. That's a high turn over, you only need a warm body to stand there type of job. I didn't go to college just so I can rummage through someone's luggage and invade their personal space with a pat down.
A time-wasting monster with poor authentication methods, obsession over security that comes at the expense of retention of federal applicant files. Constant resets, deactivations, and notices to delete accounts and rebuild federal CV usually leads people infinitely frustrated that they give up on federal jobs or advancement and just go elsewhere.
As a military veteran very dissatisfaction you can put your resume as discovery mode for recruiters to contact you. You will most likely die before they do. This website is tailored for the impossible and VRE will not help you obtain any career on this website good luck with that even with a masters degree in the stem field
I have used the USAJobs site for several years, and have yet to land a job interview or even a phone interview. I have been referred for several jobs but always get the "referred but not selected." If you are selling the site has helpful to veterans that need jobs I believe you should help them by letting them know the reasons that they were not selected for employment. Just a thought.

I have used USAJOBS in the past and was unsuccessful. I believe that was before they updated the site slightly, after the update I was able to apply easier. I also spent a little time reading the helpful information and tips regarding the site. I successfully applied, received notices and a job offer. Just takes time and patience.
I do not wish apon anyone to have to deal with this site. Uploading documents is supposed to be an easy process but freezes up all the time. The web page is cluttered there is no customer service or professionalism to help you if there is an issue with your application. USA jobs has affected more than 300,000 applicants this year alone. Don't let it be you before it's too late.
