I ordered the Veterinary Anatomy Coloring book for My daughter for Christmas on December 4th. They said that it was delivered to me on December 16th. I emailed them to tell them that I never received it. They told me to give them a couple of days to look into it. It was over a week and they never got back to me until I emailed them again. They then asked for me to be patient and to give them time to look into it and they will would get back to me. I then asked them to just refund me my money because it was now 12/31 and I never got any answers. My daughter needed this book for school and it was suppose to be a Christmas present and now she never got it. I ended up having to make a complaint with my credit card company to get my money back and then had to order it again from another retailer. I will never order anything from AbeBooks again! The bookseller was Byrd Books (Austin, TX).
Disco Abe sent a road map much older then I ordered. Instead of just credit my $12 (since they inconvenienced me) they wanted me to do all the work, first send photo, wrap it up, take it to the post office across town. I informed them not having a printer connected to computer ( to print return label)so I asked if could they send the return label by mail, I was then told to go to the local library.
Order a book, cancelled it because the seller emails and says he doesn't have it in stock. Order another book of the exact same title. Wait awhile says it shipped, I contact and they say oh sorry we don't have it in stock we will give you refund. Abe book then gives me refund for first book, but not the second book so now I have to issue a dispute through my credit card because AbeBooks can't figure out that I ordered two books, through two different sellers, and both cancelled on me. I will take my business elsewhere. Never again!
I have been using abebooks for the last 3 years and they seem to be the marketplace for a wide selection of books that you will not find on other platforms.
All the books I ordered arrived as described.
I ordered a first edition print of Redeeming Love, supposedly autographed by Francine Rivers. Instead I received a poorly packaged, low quality, low resolution print with no certificate of authenticity on the signature. This item was clearly printed on a home computer and sold as authentic. Fraud and rip-off!
I placed order 21 days ago with ABE Books from Two different sellers. One seller is ignoring my request for refund I've tried reaching out 4 times! For the most part your not saving a dime buying books through ABE Books they rip you off / take your money and disregard you! I'm turning this seller into better business bureau!
I paid extra for the priority shipping to be received 1-5 days. That timeframe has come and gone. I am still waiting for this book! Tracking just show a label was created. The funny thing is, it shows it will be delivered today and it isn't even out for delivery, very comical. I will not be a returning customer.
I was browsing for some "Phoebe and her Unicorn" books. This Abebooks.com site popped up with a six book set, seemed interesting. Then you see the price $1,000! Are you FREAKING kidding me? These are books sold on Amazon for $8-$10 each and they want WHAT PRICE!?!? Nothing noted in the description like "made out of gold" or "signed by the author on death bed" or "one of a kind edition, because there is are winning lotto numbers inside". Nope just $1,000 for a max of $60 worth of books. These books were being sold by a supposedly 5 star seller, see photos for proof of this ridiculousness!
Then I found this review site and felt the 1.5-2 star average rating was too positive so here I am adding my experience, another 1 star rating, in support of all those victims of this HORRIBLE website!
Do Not Trust!
They post inventory they don't have, find it cheaper in worse condition than you paid for, and then refuse refunds. AbeBooks does not police this at all - nothing you can do but send emails into hell that never get returned.
Lately off shore "international" or "print on demand" book copiers have been dumping books into the market place. These books have color copies of original covers ( in the ads) and under inspection I find the following: Weak non-stitched spines, poor paper quality (laser paper) Black and White reproductions (poor quality scans or photocopy) pictures that are difficult to see details, This make it impossible to read because your seeing three pages of text or pictures - or worse, no ability to put on a projector for educational purposes or loss of eye sight assistance. Trimming errors up to a 1/8 inch or more and duplication's or missing sections. ABE Books technical support said because of their volume they could not tell me if the book I was buying was the genuine or these sham books. If you don't have a policy - get one! I will not waste my time returning books after I have done your quality control.
Answer: I've not had the bad experiences of the previous reviewers. That said, choose your sellers carefully. Just as on ebay, etc., check the reviews of the seller. One of the sellers I use often on Abe is Hippo Books. They sent me an email recently that the book I ordered from them was not the advertised quality and that their packers caught the mistake. The book was not salvagable and was regrettably destroyed. They checked their stock and did not have another copy at all. They promptly refunded my money without me having to ask. They were apologetic and I have since then purchased other books from them with dependable and accurate results. Another seller I use is Owls Books. They refunded my money after one email to them when I complained that the condition of the book I received did not match the advertisement. Again, absolutely no hassle and good results since then. I like to use sellers in close proximity to my residence or at least in the same state. Your experience will, as always, will depend on your due diligence as a buyer.
Answer: Avoid this business if you can. I had been told by a Professor that they were a good site to purchase from - NOT! The "Bookseller" keeps changing the shipping date after first denying they even had an order for me from Abe's. Not worth the couple of dollars you MIGHT save.
