“Awful service”

Nicole B.
7/2/24

I created a service request to have my AC fixed. A month and four visits later and nothing has been done to fix my issue. It is currently summer in California. The inside of my home is over 100 degrees. Once the temperature exceeds 100 degrees the thermostat just reads "HI." There is no sense of urgency, nor does there seem to be an understanding of how critical the issue is. Customer service representatives are useless and provide no real resolutions. Worst insurance company I've ever dealt with. Completely unacceptable.

First I was told in order to get a sooner appt they would have to cancel my initial appt. However, initially I was told by ahs.com American Home Shield would refund my account of 100.00 co pay within 24-72 hours. Then they said they only charged me 1 time for the service but I discovered that the service fee/co pay was double billed. Now, I was told up to 14-21 days for a refund. Service reps tell you something differenct each time. Service Reps are inept. And inconsistent. I will be contacting my bank, the insurance commissioner, BBB. They Will not let consumer talk with billing department.

They left me a whole week waiting for a plumbing emergency, thanks and o my husband that fix it, cause AHS never called me back until a week later to check if the service got schedule. And with a poker face they tell me they cannot fix the wholes made to fix the leaking cause it wasn't them.

I've been also with FixdRepair. Same crappy service but at least the service fee is half.

Don't buy AHS

Verified purchase

I had a leaking water heater, the send a tech out. He looked at it and opened the heater and said I need a new water heater. AHS rejected my claim say the tech advised it was missing parts Not sure how he would say as it only took him 10 min to look at it. I asked for a 2nd review. It was set up they came in and reviewed and asked about a filtration system I showed the I had one (Lifesource) I got another email that my claim was rejected because of missing parts.
I sent to aberration and they reach out and said the fliteration was disconnected, there plumber lied and I had to buy the new water heater. They don't stand behind their word and look o way they do t have to pay.

I would never recommend them for their dishonesty. They are fine taking you money but not wanting to pay when it is needed

They take your $$ & can't & won't provide service. They charge fees without getting a authorization or even sending any kind of renewal reminder. Even going through & trying to deal with via BBB does NOT help. I have NEVER had to deal with a company so unethical. I paid some idiot AHS sent to check out the central A/C in one my properties. This the company AHS sent who said it needs to be replaced. They would NOT authorize it instead they wanted us to pay $4000 & that they would pay the balance. I had to buy 4 room A/C units so my tenants wouldn't have to suffer. Well I will make AHS suffer in the worst possible way they can imagine. Hit them where it hurts as they say. Once I'm done they will be begging for mercy. My advice to ALL stay AWAY from AHS. Pay a little more & get some other company. Enough is enough.

They don't cover anything an incentivize their vendors to find things wrong so it's not covered by the warranty! You can always count on them lying about their warranty products and policies. I will never recommend them to anyone else. Budget Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing was horrible. Then the second opinion came out and was honest but did his own thing. This caused issues with the warranty company. How do you ignore a service order and go with your gut instinct instead of following the protocol? I'm not a plumber but I can read well. TJ would have been the best if he would have gone through the house. He wanted $200 to pull out something that belongs to MSD. How can I be held liable for a sewer vent? It's not the mainline! Arnon… come on now. Do better. American Home Shield refuses to give me a refund for the contract I have. They said I will only get $79 back after spending $475 to purchase it. Who the hell do they think they are?
Do we have any power? Are we to blame for allowing the companies to continue to rape us financially? I call BS on the system! I demand my refund. This is my first attempt to get attention. See the next one…

If you have a HW Heater 58in or less they won't do much for you. Their HW heaters are over 60inches so if you have a short they try and get you to take the cash payment that is less than the cost of the appliance, without installation. They also have a policy where they will not tell the actual measurements or capacity. Very misleading!

They are not covering anything, you pay for 90% of the cost if you repair through them if you hire contractors you pay less.
They are collecting the money and each time you call to take about the issues, you have to have wait for ours no matter which department you call, the only department would answer you is the sale department, you call, it's not because of COVID-19 all the time anytime.

There are lots of uncovered costs.
Don't waste your time and money.

Worst company to deal with. Beware of the fine print. Bought the warranty to cover my pool. In the warranty it specifies pool filter, pump, electricity and plumbing. The company refused to cover my sand filter. I offered to cover the sand in order for the serviceman to check the laterals inside the filter, but they told me they would not do it. They could not even show me in the contract where it said so. After calling them for almost 4 months I decided to cancel but they told me they would charge a 50 dollar fee and that i would get 30 dollas back. That after paying 250 dollars additional for pool coverage for only those 4 months. They are thieves and criminals

We've been a customer of AHS since 2013. I made the call yesterday to cancel the policy after the most horrible experience we got trying to fix our broken AC. The AC dies in July, we did not get it replaced and fixed until November after MANY calls, MANY contractor visits, MANY broken promises... absolutely the WORST! This company was once great under ServiceMaster being the owner. It went down the drain once ServiceMaster spun it off in 2018. I would never work with these clowns again. Shopping for a new home warranty company.

Stay away from this company. They are unethical and double dip when it comes to repairs of non warrantied items. Homeowner called them for the repair of his well pump. He had to pay the $125.00 service fee up front to AHS. The contractor came out and said the part that broke was not a covered item. The homeowner paid the contractor his regular rate to repair the well pump but would not deduct the $125.00 the homeowner paid to AHS. The homeowner ended up paying $125.00 more for the repair than if they would have just called the contractor directly. AHS refused to refund the homeowner the $125.00. They are also giving the homeowner a hard time about canceling this bogus policy. Next call is to the Florida Attorney General.

I had a crack in a 35 y/o toilet that leaked and they wouldn't replace saying it was NOT normal wear and tear. Really! I spoke to the contractor and he told me that was NOT what he reported but when the local contractor submits their reports, AHS will twist the report to fit their narrative so they can deny the claim. I asked to speak to a Supervisor and I was told one would contact me and that didn't happen.

My AC unit went out the 1st of Oct 2019 and they replaced a coil on the second visit. AC went out again in 2 days. Ordered parts. 3rd visit installed those parts. Still did not work. Ordered more parts. 4th visit installed parts. Still did not work. Ordered a compressor. 5th visit installed compressor. Still needed another part. 6th visit AC was finally fixed. I live in a 16 unit condo that was built in 1998 and 14 of the other AC units had been replaced. I was told by AHS and the service company that they will only REPLACE a unit if no parts can be found.
Communication with AHS is the worst I have ever had with ANY company!
I would advise everyone to go with another company and as a retired real estate I would advise R E Agents to suggest another company if they want to retain their customer.

Please do not trust AHS and never go with them They are very bad service. Its waste of your money, time and they don't care if you are in trouble. The reviews in their site are not true. I really faced lot of issues with AHS warrenty. Please do not get spammed.

Made an appointment for the time period 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and scheduled my day around their commIntent which came in email and text. I waited until 4:00 pm and no one came and no one called. I called the number they gave and the response was " oh he is an hour or so late." The person on the phone from ahs.com customer service virtually said it was not their responsibility to make sure their vendors show up. WHY WOULD ANYONE USE THESE PEOPLE.

I cancelled. Never again.

Recently March 3 had a microwave problem.the guy came out never showed up again. Called ahs when I finally got through 2 days 8hrs of trying they sent a reputable guy out. June 3rd still no microwave. You talk to anyone there. A few years ago my ac needed work.the guy they sent tried to charge me 100 a lb for r22 which would come to 1400. 00 could have used a substitute like mo 99 at 20a lb. Said they would not do it ran him off the property got a local guy who brazed the pin hole and loaded it for 450.00 bucks. I have had as for 10 years and going to choice. Ahs has went to hell. I filed (and paid for) a claim in October of 2019 when I purchased my home. Its is now June 2020 and my stove and refrigerator still don't work properly. The original contractor came out and said that the refrigerator needed to be fixed and the stove replaced. AHS tried to dispatch another contractor a few days later for a second opinion because they THINK BLACK BUSINESSES ARE INCOMPETENT. AHS hasn't done anything but give me the run-around for 10 months. These "parts" have been in the mail for 10 months. AHS is HORRIBLE! Don't do business with them. Spend your money elsewhere. Look at this old crap they've been trying to fix...

I was highly disappointed with their response time, and ability to answer basic questions. After 12 months with them, I had my first incident and felt assured that the problem would be fixed promptly by AHS. Instead, they send a "technician" fairly quick only to later dismiss their own estimate and asked ME to schedule another appointment with another provider. Mind you this is for an A/C unit in the middle of the Summer. After 3 weeks in the heat, the second provider provided a "non-covered" estimate of $1315 based on bogus (they were not able to explain them) charges not covered in the plan.

To make matter worst, their so-called "Customer Service" responded that I would be better off to fix it on my own and then claim for a refund as it "was usually cheaper and faster". Almost laughable, they were not able to indicate how much the estimate for the work was (and if different than the non-covered portion); nor whether there was any portion covered, nor what the hypothetical refund be. Because of their self-renewal policies and charges per visit, fixing my A/C will end up costing me about $2400 for having their services. About the same of not having any coverage and buying an entirely new unit.

Learn from my my mistake of contracting them and run. In My case I guess I'm stuck for another 11 months of "coverage."

Tip for consumers:
Look into other providers. AHS gives Home Warranties a bad name, they are not all this bad.

The charges have gone up but the service and the providers have gone down considerably in ability and professionalism. Many times over the past year or two I've had to resort to calling my own repairman after those sent by AHS have failed or bungled the job. It has grown to be common knowledge that the only providers who work with AHS are those in desperate need of work because on their own merit they cannot get work. I've hired HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and appliance repair people on my own out of pocket because I could not depend on AHS.

Tip for consumers:
There were a few times that it was worth the money, but overall I had to pay out of my own pocket to get credible professional people.

They do not honor their own contract. I need $2100 in HVAC work, and AHS is only paying $235. The "contractor" wants to charge me $1800 for the refrigerant only (10 lbs of R410a), thats not even the labor to install it or fix th issue! Call AHS and all i get is robot/scripted customer service. They should be paying me $1500, but are paying basically nothing. My regular HVAC said repair (without warranty) is $2100, and of that, only $200-$300 is the refrigerant itself. Got work done locally, who has R410a refrigerant at $65/LB! I did speak with AHS executive offices, who says price can vary a bit like fixing a car; Well $1800 vs $450 is a lot more than a BIT! Do not use AHS ever. Always an argument and you will get no where with customer no-service, the Live people are robots with scrips who can't do anything, or won't. They are all owned by Frontdoor, so best to avoid all their subsidiaries which also include Candu Home Solutions, Frontdoor Cayman, Frontdoor Global Holdings, Frontdoor India, Home Security Association (AHS), Landmark Home Warranty, OneGuard in AZ, TX, NV, Selerio Ltd., Stewared of TX, Streem LLC, and US Hazard Disclosure.

Tip for consumers:
Run from AHS and all affiliated companies. All Crooks.

Products used:
Nothing, paid for all repairs myself. Why pay contractor $1800 for R410a refrigerant when its local value from reputable repair place is only $65/LB.

Customer service is the worst I have ever seen in my 74 years. Was told by a AHC agent my contract did not cover our hot water heater. Which was strange since I had my policy in front of me that clearly states Hot Water Heater is part of the contract. I question the integrity of American Home Shield.
