“Awful service”

Nicole B.

I created a service request to have my AC fixed. A month and four visits later and nothing has been done to fix my issue. It is currently summer in California. The inside of my home is over 100 degrees. Once the temperature exceeds 100 degrees the thermostat just reads "HI." There is no sense of urgency, nor does there seem to be an understanding of how critical the issue is. Customer service representatives are useless and provide no real resolutions. Worst insurance company I've ever dealt with. Completely unacceptable.

I placed a service call for a plumbing issue on June 9. On June 11 they charged me my $75 service fee. But the technician, the only one in my area willing to work with them, could not come out to my house until June 28. I can't go with a plumbing issue that long, and after multiple phone calls and request to have a supervisor call me, I ended up canceling my service request on June 20. July 8,18 days later, and I am still waiting for my $75 service fee to be refunded to me. I've called them four times for my refund. And I keep getting the same runaround, the prior rep didn't process it correctly. I filed a better business bureau claim, but now I am letting everyone else know to be aware of this company. I've been with them for five years, they started out excellent! But now that everything is outsourced, you can't get any help. None!

Do NOT waste your money. This company is a joke. They will cover small inexpensive things, but if it's an AC they're going to tell you a dog pissed on it and it's not covered. Then they won't even service it because they say a dog pissed on it. I don't have a dog!

I had an AC unit that needed to be repaired. Their service provider couldn't come out for over a month. It's summer in Arizona, so that is not a viable option. They did send a technician to give us a quote. The part (evaporator coil) is fully covered; parts and labor. The service provider quoted an additional $5,700 for modifications to make the part fit! I have coverage for up to $1,000 in modifications, as I have the booster (Platinum Shield). I pay extra for this every month. Since their technician was 1. Going to take too long and 2. Too expensive, I called and got permission to hire my own contractor and submit for reimbursement after the repairs. Somehow, they are only offering $890 as the "amount of the check is based on the full value that we would've paid for the covered repair". This is mathematically impossible, since there is coverage of the entire part and labor PLUS $1,000 for modifications. After multiple calls, I am no closer to getting this resolved.

AHS is a scam. Help yourself by staying away from this company. I paid them for 2 years and when I called them for a service the technician came after 15 days and he said he can not perform the plumbing service as it needs another contractor to remove the wash basin and he need to cut open the wall. AHS charged me the service charge and said that it is not covered. Another time I called for a leak and the technician cut open the ceiling, I feel that it would have been so easy to figure out that the leak is from toilet up. I had to pay 500$ to fix my ceiling. Also they charge you for cancellation. So much money wasted and time to get hold of representative whom you can talk.

Waste of time and money! They partner with crooks and then expect you to pay the contractor 1865 bucks for a 474 repair to get things "up to code". The house was built 5 years ago and is fully up to code, which I had verified by a licensed HVAC tech. Waste of time and money!

I only have AHS because the warranty came with my newly purchased home. In the ten months having the warranty, I've had to setup six contractor visits to service my HVAC. With one exception, the contractors that came out had no clue what they were doing and pretty much just said "that will get you through to the next season" when they were done. Today, I had to schedule another contractor to come out (first time turning on A/C this spring and of course it didn't work). They can't come out to service the HVAC for a week, so I call AHS and have to wait an hour to get someone on the phone. I'm told there is only one contractor to service the area and "that's just the facts". So I'm forced to wait a week with no other option than hiring someone out of pocket. I will definitely not be throwing my money away renewing my account with this thieving company!

This company will tell one thing and do another! As a senior citizen they doubled billed me for a home warranty and since June I am still waiting for my money. This companies employees DO NOT care about their customers at all. DO NOT get involved with these people, and I really regret ever pursing a home warranty from them. DO NOT make the same mistake that I made. I have even sent over 50 emails to a customer service rep and she keeps saying it is being processed again, how many times does it take.

Verified purchase

I made a service request on August 10 today is September 18. I had a technician come on September 1, look at the electrical issues and say they to get the invoice approved. I look on the portal and it says my service has been completed even thought no work was ever done. I call AHS and ask if I can get a different technician and the response from AHS is their protocol is wait for the technician. It is almost winter and I cannot get my issue

They take your money then have no one to provide service so when you request a refund it takes over 30 days to be refunded you have to stay on them! When a service request is placed if they don't put it in right they refuse to pay.

I contacted AHS April 26 for my dryer. Today June 17th still no dryer. Sears cannot get parts. It has been 21 days for them to get parts. 21 days up May 27 th and no response on getting my dryer fixed or an alternative. I have called 10 times talked to supervisors managers and still no resolution. AHE has had my $100.00 since April plus my monthly payments. Do not go with this company DO NOT use AHS.
How would you like to be without a dryer for 8 weeks! This could be you!

My washer broke and they agreed to replace it. I asked if I could purchase the matching dryer through their appliance discount program. First it was no discount. They took my money over the phone and gave me the name of the company who would receive and install. When I didn't hear from them I called them. They said they never receive or install. That was a week ago. I have spent 46 hours on hold in the past week and still they can't tell me where my washer and dryer are, or even if they were ordered. They won't call me back, but they have my 914.60$

My microwave failed. The tech could not fix, was internal. It Took AHS 2 weeks To tell me they would not replace it. After calling them everyday. They said I could pay for another Tech but they would choice the company. The company wanted travel pay. 2 hour trip from bay area. Had to argue with rep. To cancel contract.

Horrible company! NEVER purchase a home warranty from these people. They hire subpar contractors to come into your home and find ways to get AHS out of paying and/or fixing problems. Worst company I have ever dealt with and I have filed a formal complaint with my State Attorney Generals office. This company is a rip off and the process and procedures are set up to scam you out of money and them out of responsibility. Stay away from this company they have no concern for their paying customers.

Tip for consumers:
Love site jabber good place to get the real truth out about these type of rip off companies.

I am so disappointed at AHS. I so far know 15 contracts that will cancel with AHS as I write this review. I am 10,000,000,000.00% sure I am NOT the only one that agrees with the poor, bad, frustrating AHS. They tell you they will follow up with you and they never do. A company shows its values when the customer service is right. Why am I paying for a service that I end up buying the new appliance?
From 2019, Family-had washer and dryer that needs to be repair and they waited 2 months. Nothing was fixed. At the end AHS did nothing and Family A ended up buying a new washer & dryer. Very disappointing!
From 2018 Family B- had dishwasher broken. AHS said they do not have the part and replace with a broken part. Family B end up buying a new dishwasher, because after 3 months, nothing was fixed.
The list can go on, AHS as of today has not improve their services. I can understand why people are starting to leave this company. I hope no more customers end up with this bad service.

We have been a customer with AHS for many years. I have been very unhappy with their services for a while. Contacting a service request on the phone is a nightmare. Decided to cancel. It took over 20 minutes to cancel and the women was so rude. I wanted to take the survey but she would not disconnect the phone. She told me that I would not let her talk. I said I want is to cancel and she telling me I would come back. I would not recommend this company based on this one person I had to deal with. AHS needs to train their employees better. There is not need keep trying to get my business when I was clear that I wanted to cancel. Also. They will continue to send out repair after repair to try and fix the problem. Took months to get my washing machine working. They claim they will replace an item but they will not. We ended up purchasing a new machine on our own because they wanted was to continue to put a patch on the problem. I would never recommend AHS to anyone.

AHS is a complete scam. They keep you on hold for over an hour and have no one to speak to regarding service. They will charge t you the service fee $75 upfront before they will dispatch h a worker and then if the worker does not do the work they will not refund at all. No one American to speak to I think it is likely outsourced associates who don't communicate well. Don't waste your money

I was a member of AHS for over 3 years and was very satisfied with the company until my contract renewed in year number 3. They more than doubled my price going from about $48 a month to $100 per month. Amazon Home Warranty contacted me and they are about half the price and have a larger network of subcontractors. I moved to them. I tried to cancel my service with AHS and could not get through before the end of the month. Today they charged my September payment and when I cancelled charged me an administrative cancellation fee in the same amount. This is why I will never return to them and why I will not refer them to anyone. Very disappointing. I am sure the cancellation fee was in my agreement but they never verbally mentioned it to me.

Tip for consumers:
Do not use this company. They will get you in on low pricing and then double it.

They even do not deserve a star. This insurance company is nothing to but rip you off. They are nothing but punch of crooks. They are useless and do not use them.

Uses vague words in the contract "modification" to get out of paying for repairs. For my AC UNIT, that is covered per the contract, I was asked to cover $3800 of the repair because they were deemed "modifications" required to do the repair: These modifications included $422 for a labor and evaporative.

Please do not use these crooks

I have been enrolled in the Platinum plan for 2 years now. Went to schedule an HVAC tune-up as one is included annually in my plan. Was told that this is only available during promotional periods and that the period is ended. Have been given different dates on when it ends, 5/17 on the phone and 5/7 via social media.

When I asked where these dates are posted, I was told they are only shared via promotional emails at the beginning and end of the periods, which I was never told when signing up and have not received, despite the fact that I receive marketing emails and newsletters. No one can tell me WHY I didn't receive these emails to make sure I get them in the future, but everyone has told me to watch for them in the fall when the fall promotion begins.

Additionally, my renewal contract came in. Despite only one service call in the last two years, my monthly price is increasing by almost 25% AND my service fee is increasing $25 per request.

I had an attic fan that was not working. I called these guys stated they were going to fix it. Took $100 from me under two contracts. Never got it fixed. Refuse to refund the money. On top of that they automatically renewed the contract with out my permission. When I asked for a refund on that they refused also. When I requested to speak to a manager I was told Managed will not speak to any customers. The customer service sucks.

In August 2022, I contacted AHS to request information about getting home coverage insurance. We never received a contract to sign nor gave any indication we had chosen a plan. Not only did they start taking money out of my bank account, but they also set up TWO contracts and took out double the money every month. Now they refuse to cancel and refund three months' worth of taking money out for TWO contracts we never signed.

Avoid this company

A few weeks ago our 9 year old hot water heater's electrical panel caught fire. American Home Shield Warranty is falsifying the claim submitted by their approved service company. AIn the claim report to submitted by the service company they simply stated "Hot water heater caught fire needs to be replaced." However, when they denied the claim AHS stated that "a power surge" caused the dire and therefore not covered. The service provider did not state it was a power surge and in fact we have a whole home surge protector.

AHS is even lying to the BBB despite my submission of the report showing that a power surge was ot deemed to be the cause.

Be warned: AHS will not willingly pay out on legitimate claims and is even willing to make up lies to deny your claim.

I was with American Home Shield for 5 years. We had them since we first purchased our home. The last few times the company sent a contractor that was substandard! The last time we worked with them was over a year ago and it took 4 different contractors to fix the issue. Their prices went up 30% for this latest go around and I wanted to cancel. The contract was updated and I'm obligated to a year, even though I didn't sign the contract. So I had to pay an admin fee. I paid it since I didn't want it to hit my credit. Please know that when you work with AHS you are obligated to a year and the contractors are very substandard. Might want to consider another alternative.

Please do not waste your money. I have had to have service twice now. What I notice is they have contractors that you have never heard of. When you do a Google review of who they assign to your claim, the contractor always has a 1 or 2 star review and are terrible. I just had a water leak on Oct 21. AHS told me I would receive a call from "All Hours Plumbing" or some crappy name like that, within 24 hours. 5 days later they still hadn't called me and I had to call another plumber myself and just pay out of pocket. The cherry on the top... AHS still charged me a 100.oo deductible.
