"A Place for mom" was a huge asset in helping my sisters and I, when it came time for our mom to move to an assisted living home. Our representative was knowledgeable, understanding, empathetic and showed great patience. Having never been down this road before the whole process would have been agony without their guidance and knowledge. From helpful and educational emails on various topics to supplying us with a list of properties to tour, and following up questions about decisions or additional information.
Please don't trust these people. They are all in it together. They stole all my mother's money and promised she'd always have a place to stay. They threw her in the hospital and refused to take her back into their facility when she finally got to another facility, they starved her to death. She went from 124 pounds down to 86 pounds in one month during Covid. I wasn't allowed to visit, they killed her Do not trust them they are all in it together. They act like they want to help you and they're so sympathetic soon as they get your money you can't get in touch with them.
I am now getting over 25 spam calls a day because they clearly sold my contact information. I will probably have to change my cell number. Unacceptable!
Referral….mistake

My aunt's resources were limited, yet she needed to move into a senior living apartment. I had no idea where to start. A Place for Mom put me in touch with several places and we were able to find a nice place my aunt can afford.
Saved our family so much stress and worry. I am so appreciative of the help they gave and the information. We did find a facility that is perfect for my MIL. Thank you again!
I used them recently, with in 90 days. They sent referrals out to 6 different facilities. 1/2 of them was not a fit at all. Actually only 2 fit the bill for my mother. We selected one of them. Brookdale North Tucson. After 3 months I am pulling my mother out. What I believe this company does is they have the facilities that pay them. Rather it is a good or bad facility doesn't really matter to them. It's a "I scratch your back, you scratch mine kind of company in my opinion. I reach out to them to let them know what a horrible facility Brookdale was. And no response from them. But why should they respond, they got paid. It's better for you to do the research yourself. Using them you just think they are looking out for your best interest, and the best fit. They are not. Stay away from big corporate facilities. It's just a money game for them.
Our contact was Missy. I am my mom's only remaining relative. She has dementia, and has fought leaving her home for too long. Missy helped me through this difficult decision from the very first decision, throughout the ups and downs, and stayed with me to the end. I could not have gotten through this extremely stressful situation without her help. Thank you, Missy, and thank you for A Place for Mom. This program is invaluable.
When needed to find a good fit for my dad, I called A Place for Mom. The service I received was both professional and caring. They listen. They are faithful to follow up. You can't go wrong by giving them a call.
Rapid response, appropriate filters to target facilities, some appointments set up, then used the app to set up more. We found a great place which was exactly what we were looking for. The first advisor changed jobs, but her replacement emailed very soon after and checked on our progress. She sent a notification to the places we visited to tell them of our final choice and thank them for the tours.
I used this service for my Mom about 4 years ago, good service, but I found a place on my own due to need for a specific location.
My only frustration is the continued contact after the decision was made (emails).
Put through to a "specialist" Annemarie. She was abrupt and cut me off and said "A Place for Mom offers service only for Assisted Living facilities and private pay, we do not work with Mass Health. I thought all assisted living in MA had to make available some low income units? What a scam.
Kelly was terrific. We needed a place right away and she was able to set up a visit with two facilities that same day and two the next day. We found a perfect place for Mom and she is very happy there. I would highly recommend making the call and letting them help with this process and relieving the stress of having to do it on your own.
Products used:
Their product was a service so there was no shipping and their service is free. They help you find a Assisted Living Facility for a senior.
The employee at A Place for Mom will continually call you - just to check up on you. I'm not sure what the point was - even after I told her repeated we were good and didn't need anything else from them.
The care homes will also call you- repeatedly. I recommend just finding a place on your own - the repeated calls were pointless and a waste of my time.

I wish this could be a non profit organization. In future will be unrealistic to dream about a peaceful retirement. Mother's deserve to be placed on a affordable, caring environment.
Staff was very organized, informative and professional. I appreciated their time, experience, encouragement and assistance.
I was afraid using This service would be inviting sales people to pester me but it was anything but that. The service was so helpful educating me about what my expectations should be. They even had a check sheet to evaluate different facilities. I can't recom A Place For Mom enough
Our retirement community used to be a partner with A Place For Mom. Many of the criticisms I am seeing are sadly true. We decided to eliminate our agreement for many of the reasons I see in other reviews. The straw that broke the camels back was when I was hearing from persons who found us on the internet, unrelated to looking through A Place for Mom, that while on our web site a pop up asked if they wanted pricing. When they clicked on it, they were then directed to A Place fro Mom website and instructed to complete information. I would had not known about this except for a few families I had already been working with when they were trying to show a short video to other family. When I questioned this with the representative from A Place for Mom, I was told this is not possible. I then went to our web site with my personal phone and showed them. Sadly any lead we had with them we are obligated to pay a referral fee if they happen to move in over the next 3 years. Does not seem fair...
Tip for consumers:
Families and Communities beware!
My father was reluctant to move out of his home of 50 years. The minute we visited Blue Water Lodge he felt as ease. His fear of moving was gone. We went for lunch and we sat with some wonderful residents. By the time we left he was smiling and enjoying himself. The place was very clean and the staff were friendly.
My father moved in 2 weeks later and loves his new apartment.
Karen has been excellent in helping set up tours, having someone from each facility call me to explain what they offer in care and especially doing fall ups.
The commercials since this is a first time needing assisted living.
I was kept in contact. She gave me different places to look at and other info I'd need about the area.
Shed always respond when I would call her or text.
Jennifer called me & knew her info.
I have found a nice place because of being contacted
Placed my mom in a home recommended by APFM. Staff was inadequately trained... made med errors the first two days. Meals were substandard... could not approach staff with concerns bc they would avoid me. Could not get out of there fast enough and that establishment has since sued us for not paying the full month's payment... looked great from the outside but not what it seemed.
Contacted these folks- received an instant phone call-
Explained I needed a place for 3,000 a month for pretty rough situation.
Received an internet search copy of every place in DFW and none were less than 4,500 for the care needed.
Told L Hawley to go away in clear language.
The woman will not go away.
The local rep assigned to me kept following up, asking inappropriate questions about my parent. Shared my contact information against my consent with agencies who in turn contacted me via phone and email long before I needed them to do so. The local rep hung up on me after I didn't go for her bullish badgering. It seems she is just after a commission. Frankly, a very discouraging interaction.
I think this is a questionable business. Basically a real estate broker for nursing homes and assisted living facilities. I highly recommend avoiding APlaceForMom.com. It's a profit-oriented business that could care less about your loved ones.
As the other reviews said, worse than a waste of time. I accidently got on their radar by call a number for a site that sounded alright. When I called, APFM said they could not find it in their system. Then the calls and emails started. The facilities did not meet our minimum needs. If we need memory care for our relative, why try to set us up with assisted living only sites? I have asked them to cease... we will see.
Tip for consumers:
Don't and if they trick you into getting on their list, stop them immediately.
Not only did I have to jump through hoops because they couldnt get information right (it nearly caused an even bigger rift in my family because a mix up on their end had us thinking someone had massively overstepped boundaries), but I have also been fielding calls from communities that arent applicable to our situation because my grandmother required skilled nursing, not assisted living. The rep from the company that called me to assure satisfaction after months of getting calls from facilities that are of no use wasnt listening to a word I said about my grandmothers insurance or needs, and skewed what I said about needing skilled care (a facility I just spoke with said their notes read to avoid skilled nursing, but that what we need). Dont waste your time, these people dont know their $#*! from a hole in the ground.
A Place For Mom is a great first stopping place in the search for Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing care. Their representative will help educate you about the process and give a starting list on centers with prices based on your loved one's needs. Usually about 5 centers. Then the centers will call you to take a tour or answer questions. This will save time and in a couple of hours the search process becomes routine and you quickly home in on what you want. Use the agents to get more info for you or even to contact centers for pricing or capabilities. They have an app which I found helpful. They followup a lot to check your progress, which if you have a loved one soon to be discharged from the hospital is a blessing, but I could see how it could be annoying if you are not under a time constraint. They serve a coaching roll and a counseling roll and will guide you through the process for free. Kim works North Florida and did a great job getting us started.
I was simply looking on a website of a care center, hoping for a little info, services, prices, etc.
Made the mistake of putting in my phone #. Within ten seconds my phone rang, A place for mom calling. I talked to them the first couple of times explaining I only wanted a little information at that time. They called again and again over the course of aprox. Five months, hung-up, ignored it, finally blew up on one of their reps, (new # i didn't recognize so I answered) hopefully they will leave us alone now. These people are simply vultures trying to get a piece of elderly persons estates, in my opinion.
Hi Ken,
We apologize that our follow-up calls were annoying. Many times the families that contact us for help are in an urgent situation, so we try to be proactive and responsive. This is good information to help us improve our service and we appreciate your feedback.
Please email us at Content@aplaceformom.com to be removed from our call and email lists.
Also, if you simply want to do an initial online search for communities you can do so by clicking on the care type tabs of our website – Senior Housing, Assisted Living, Memory Care and following the search options: http://www.aplaceformom.com/search
Don't use them, after paying thousands of dollars to this outfit our mother in law passed away before any benefits were paid. No refund of any kind. You can go to a Veterans representative and he well give you the paperwork and guide you on what to do. It's FREE!
Sorry we didn't do this and wish that a place for mom would investigate their places they advertise, or get paid by.

Hi Mike, we do not charge families for providing referrals for senior living options. A Place For Mom is paid by our participating providers and communities, which enables us to offer families a cost-free service with no hidden fees. We were blessed. Susie provided us with real valuable information for what was available in our area. It was not a hard sell nor did we feel like we're under pressure. All of the ancillary information we got other than care facilities was reasonable, very helpful and timely.
If I had another mom, I wouldn't hesitate to work with these folks.
Thank you for sharing, Nick!
