"A Place for mom" was a huge asset in helping my sisters and I, when it came time for our mom to move to an assisted living home. Our representative was knowledgeable, understanding, empathetic and showed great patience. Having never been down this road before the whole process would have been agony without their guidance and knowledge. From helpful and educational emails on various topics to supplying us with a list of properties to tour, and following up questions about decisions or additional information.
Please don't trust these people. They are all in it together. They stole all my mother's money and promised she'd always have a place to stay. They threw her in the hospital and refused to take her back into their facility when she finally got to another facility, they starved her to death. She went from 124 pounds down to 86 pounds in one month during Covid. I wasn't allowed to visit, they killed her Do not trust them they are all in it together. They act like they want to help you and they're so sympathetic soon as they get your money you can't get in touch with them.
These very kind people helped me find a palace for my Mom who has dementia and Alzheimer's. She had been living in a very expensive unit in Hermosa beach at 12,000 a month. She always smelled like pee in the other place. It took one week to find the kindest place with the most wonderful caretakers (Agnes & Ron) my mom ran out of money which means I have to work extra to pay for her expenses. At 3300 a month she is getting better care. Doesn't smell and is gaining weight on her frail frame. If I had done this 9 years ago, all that money could still be available to her and eventually to me. Instead I'm using my retirement money to pay for her. I wish I had listened to those commercials a long time ago. Debra
I am so happy that I decided to reach out to A Place for Mom, the advisor for our area called me within 10 minutes after reaching out to "A Place for Mom." She was very knowledgeable and helped our family make the best decision for our aged Mother. She is so happy at Avanti in Covington and actually has a life there which we could not personally provide for her at home. I would highly recommend this company for anyone who loves their elderly parents and wants the best of care for them.
My children were steered to an assisted living place for me that turned out to be a disaster. The place was obviously on its last legs when I got here five months ago and now the state has shut it down. All residents must vacate. They should carefully vet a place before recommending it. I have had a horrible experience at great expense. Check things carefully before making any commitment. Demand proof for all claims about the services and amenties. I witnessed abuse here. That I was not a victim is due to the fact that I am neither disabled nor demented.
Tip for consumers:
A referral service is not like a manufacturer. You need a different review form for services.

Only complaint was it would have been great to coordinate one caregiver on a daily basis.
Some where better than others, I know staffing was tough at the time.
Quick and available
This outfit simply preys on vulnerable family members to cash in on the difficult decisions they face. In my case, they provided my contact info to numerous facilities and I was immediately buried with unwanted phone calls. One was from a place my brother had already contacted, and when my mom moved there later, these scammers fraudulently claimed a "referral" fee from them. The BBB gives them an "A+" rating despite a pile of complaints. Don't make the same mistake I did. Heed the warnings.
We were told Mom could no longer live independently and had a week to find an assisted living place for her. I work fulltime so my research was done at night. Several places I called had no openings. I spoke with A Place for Mom at 9:30 p.m. and by 8:30 a.m. the next morning I had 3 messages from facilities with openings. I set up several interviews and decided on The Waterford at Fitchburg. It's a wonderful facility and they were very accommodating to help us get Mom's things moved in quickly. A Place for Mom saved me time and wasted phone calls. It's an amazing service and I am so grateful! They truly are my guardian angel!
Thank you for sharing, Vikki! Your feedback made our day!
This place is horrible. A few hours after they said they would send me a list of providers to research I got a call. Sarah Ellis who works there is terrible. The only way they even got my number is by pulling it off their caller ID. I never told gave them permission to send it to facilities.
Thank you for this opportunity to explain how we operate and how we reach out to people in their search for senior living options. This consumer called us for assistance, and we verified her phone number during the initial conversation. As part of connecting those seeking senior living options, we connect them to a senior living advisor who works with the family to select a number of senior living communities to visit as part of a referral process. Once the communities are identified, we share the contact information, including phone number, to the referred communities so that the communities can assist those consumers in scheduling a tour and visit. This is expressed in our Privacy Policy as well. We have not called this consumer since she reached out to us. And we have since told the communities that she does not want to be called by them.
I filled out a form online to get information. I got a call at 7:22 on a Sunday morning! When my phone rings at this time my first thought is bad news about my elderly mother or my son who is overseas. What kind of organization thinks that sales calls before dawn on a Sunday morning is a respectful business practice?! NOT an organization that I want to be affiliated with!

Staff asked questions to determine exactly what I needed and what would be a "good fit" for me. They completed the entire process from arranging tours to follow-up in excellent time.
Referred by a friend who had success with "A Place for Mom."
We found a place that was perfect for her needs at this time, with the options of adding more care chosen by us as she ages and needs more help. She adapted to her new home quickly and tells us how nice the people are and that the food is good. Such a relief to have her in a safe environment with lots of opportunities to be social again.
Thank you for sharing!
It was a great experience to work with this company. They were very helpful, I told them what I wanted in a senior facility and they gave me a list of places that fit my criteria and helped me arrange tours.
We appreciate you sharing this with us and we are so happy to hear you had a great experience with us!
After my experience today I've learned they will help only if you have money. My senior advisor sent me a link which basically still put the work on me... she said they don't work with medicaid so there you have it.
I started the process of looking for a place for my wife. She has early onset dementia. I filled out the questionnaire and did receive a phone call from initial screener. Call was pleasant enough. She understood what I wanted and how I was going to pay for her care. She assigned me a "case worker" (don't remember exact term used) by name and said I should expect a call within 24 hours. Well, seven months later I am still waiting.
Being a caregiver is stressful enough without the incompetence of other services.
I have placed my wife in a super facility where she is quite happy, the food is incredible and the staff is unbelievable.
I couldn't find a place that accepted social security. There were no affordable nursing homes in Carlisle and Mechanicsburg and I was wasting my time looking. I remembered how I got the help I needed for my Mom, so I called and got the help I needed for my friend Ray who needed a home in 2 weeks.
I needed the bottom line cost for rent quickly. Researching facilities individually was out of the question when I had 2 weeks to find a facility for Ray. They know their stuff and their facts were accurate.
I really want to thank you for all the information, advice and guidance. It was extremely helpful at a time our heads were spinning and getting ready to explode. Dealing with a elderly parent is bad enough but one that has dementia makes it 10X harder. We love our Dad but could not continue to provide the care he needed. Your expertise was perfect timing. You guided us through the entire experience not only with step by step instructions for immediate placement but with advice on financial assistance that is available out there for him. I cannot thank you enough Sheyna!
We are so happy to hear this and we love the photo! Thanks for sharing.
If you have $1,000 plus per month to pay, I suppose they might have a listing that you couldn't find elsewhere on your own. I am a senior and disabled. My income is Social Security, period. I got sent to a recording telling me what I already know about subsidized housing. Not even worth the phone call.
The place for mom have been working to fulfill my mother in law needs for a quite long time. The offered me many choices according with my location preferences and budget. Always they follow up with a call or an email to make sure that they were able to help.
We finally selected a senior community apartment in downtown Baltimore. Just recent remodeled, excellent price with utilities included and close to all the downtown Baltimore amenities and public transportation.
Thank you very much!
I am writing this review as an owner of a small assisted living facility that contracted with APFM. I urge anyone looking for assisted living not to go near APFM. Their business practices are horrendous and they simply put you on their list then blast your contact information to as many facilities as they can so they can claim a "referral fee" if you move into any of them. You will get harassed by their "elder care advisors" who most often do not understand assisted living and state regulations about who is appropriate. You will get badgered by facilites for months on end with phone calls and emails.
Our mom was able to get assistance she needed with her age and medical-related issues. Move in and associated paperwork was handled smoothly and promptly. Caregivers and other professionals were always attentive and caring in taking care of their duties. Staff coordinated well with the family and outside medical staff.
I was simply looking around online for options for living for my father and me. My father is 86 years old and unable to drive. I'm looking for a 55 and over Community where we can both live, and he might be able to have some kind of social life, while he still can. I'm 54 but will be 55 in October. I got a phone call out of the blue from A Place for Mom. I'm sure that they connect people to the right place. But I was very turned off because the first thing they grilled me about was how much we could afford. In other words if you make more money, then you get a better place, eventually get better care. We live in a country that doesn't care for its people. My father is from Sweden. Over there you don't have to worry about how you're going to be taken care of, when you get to be his age. We really need to get it together in this country. In A Place for Mom, you need to be a little bit more sensitive about how you make people feel when you grill them about their financial capabilities.
We are sorry to hear about your experience and thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We share a common vision with our customers: we all want what’s best for seniors and we aim to provide families with the knowledge and confidence to allow them to move forward with good choices for aging family members. Asking for financial information is a key part of understanding a senior’s situation and needs, and helps us identify a list of viable options. In addition, A Place for Mom is paid by our participating providers and communities, which enables us to offer families a cost-free service with no hidden fees. Thank you again for your feedback.
I can't express my thanks enough for the incredible support and assistance I received from Natalie. I have been working on and off with her for over two years. Every so often, Natalie would check back in to see if she could offer assistance, but I never found her pushy. The road to find a good place for my mother has been windy and rocky. At each point she provided a listening ear and advice that was spot on. We had a "false start" with two different placement situations, and thankfully feel that we have found the right solution for mom right now. I consider natalie an invaluable resource and would never have found this memory care facility if it hadn't been for her. So grateful!
Thank you for sharing! We are so grateful we could help you and your family out during this difficult time!
This company words things in ways to screw everyone over but them selves. They will harrass you, sale your phone number to all the assisted livings within the area. You will be called and hounded for months. In the beginning they will even call you up to 14 times in one day. They will use intimidation factors to pressure you into making a decision that will line their pockets with money... NOT to mention... they don't care about the elderly. Once they get your information they move onto the next suckers who they can scam. They also only work with the most expense Assisted Livings in the area, they state that they pull information on each community such as Public Records and Survey Results, however when survey results come out, they rarely act on any of the issues. Your Personal Health Information is shared with numerous people a s well. Save yourself the stress and stay away from this company! I hope to see this company fall on their face!
Hi Nick - We are sorry to hear about your experience. Consumer privacy is important to A Place For Mom. We tell our families how we use and disclose their information. I would like to thank the helpful people with "A Place for Mom". They helped us to find a great assisted living situation for our Dad. He is very happy. Thank you again for your hard work and patience with us during the process.
Reached out to the Phoenix area place for mom representative just wanting some general information and I was bombarded by sales calls. I only wanted some basic information and recieved home based health care and every facility within 20 miles called me. I recently emailed the staff and asked a basic question regarding two rehabilitation facilities and she promptly told me they don't work with Medicare and to advise me to ask the facilities myself. It was rude with no concern for my mother. My advise is don't bother unless you like sales people calling every 5 minutes.
We apologize that our follow-up calls were annoying. Many times the families that contact us for help are in an urgent situation, so we try to be proactive and responsive. This is good information to help us improve our service and we appreciate your feedback.
Please email us at privacy@aplaceformom.com to be removed from our call and email lists.
I am an administrator for two Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly. We no longer accept referrals from A Place for Mom because they charge us a very steep price of 120% of the first month of the residents rent. You can do your won research by going on the internet and evaluating the facilities yourself.
