“Poor food maintenance and moral”

Davina L.
12/23/24

Elison of Lake Worth. FL is getting bad, The food is mediocre at best, maintenance is poor.and Sagora Corp.,the owners, does not seem to want to invest a penny to remedy the situation. Moral is at an all time low with staff and residents. I would think twice about placing a loved one here.

I also inquired online & NEVER even talked to anyone yet & I'm annoyed. They called 2x day even though I never asked them to. From that I decided to look at reviews. THANK YOU to all who posted reviews. A "FREE" service isn't "FREE" necessarily. I'm not pursuing their help now.

They call constantly... 3-5 times a day. Someone calls, you answer, they connect you to a 2nd person who just gives a list of email sites. This person doesn't listen to your situation. They break FTC law calling outside telemarketing hours. BIG MISTAKE ANSWERING THEIR CALL ONE TIME. It's better to just Google search and call facilities yourself. These people are vultures.

No amount of pleading will get this place to stop calling once they have your number. My grandmother has passed 2 years now, yet this place is adamant they're going to find her a place.

A friend directed me to this site after googling the name of a facility where I am administrator. This site comes up and says you can call them for pricing and availability of our facility. In an earlier review, they responded to a complaint saying,: "When a community joins our network, we develop in-depth, "insider" knowledge about their current availability, services and amenities, pricing, activities, special events, and other factors. From time to time, our Advisors visit the communities..."

No one from this site has ever visited our "community" and has NO knowledge (let alone "insider knowledge") about current availability, pricing, activities or anything else.

THIS SITE IS A TOTAL SCAM. BUYER BEWARE.

This company is paid by senior facilities. You will not get an unbiased referral. They are protecting sub-standard communities by not posting bad reviews.

We disclose on our website, in our advertisements, and in our communications that A Place for Mom is paid by our participating providers and communities. Because we are paid by our participating providers and communities, we are able to offer you a completely cost-free service. Families are welcome to do their own research to explore communities and services outside of our network, and use that information to make educated comparisons.

The statement about the ratings and reviews program is simply not accurate. All communities, whether they are partners with A Place for Mom or not, are subject to the same review guidelines and procedures for disputing a consumer review. These guidelines have been in place since SeniorAdvisor.com began in 2014. Since this time less than 4% of submitted reviews have been removed from the site for failure to meet review guidelines (including duplicate review postings, review disputes which have not been re-verified by the reviewer, employee-written reviews and other reviews which do not adhere to our clearly stated review requirements). Our guidelines can be found here: https://www.senioradvisor.com/about/reviewer-guidelines

I will admit it wasn't an easy decision to give up my home of 24-years. It was even more difficult to keep calling on neighbors to help me get up after another fall. The last tumble helped make my choice. I did some online research, created a list of questions and began touring. It took four Centers before I found my current home. When I walked through the front door I felt welcomed, an immediate warmth. Everyone greeted me with a smile and kind word. I filled out an application form that day and I'm delighted I did.

If the responsibilities of caring for your home, cooking, shopping, fear of falling or perhaps you live alone, you don't have to. Drop by the Renaissance-Sherman on Loy Lake Rd, in Sherman, Tx. And have lunch with me. Loneliness will be a thing of the past. You'll meet and enjoy new friends almost daily. The days are filled with activities if you want to join them. Looking back I wonder what took me so long to get here. I hope you will too.

Even my Yorkie enjoys her new home. She's spotted squirrel in the treetops.
I feel I need to update my review which I wrote within days of moving in. After being there awhile I realized what a horrible mistake I had made. I fell twice within days of each fall. After reporting the incidents I wasn't asked if I was alright, did I need to see a nurse, nothing to show concern for my condition. That's when, after some research I learned the Renaissance was charging me RENT instead on Assisted Living which my insurance covers. It does not, however, cover $16,000.00 rental charges. Avoid this place. I have returned home. Do not go there!

They had great advertising, and wonderful reviews at the website (duh).

Little did I know: they're a database matching service, and not a very good one. They mass emailed our information INCLUDING MY PHONE NUMBER to multiple assisted living facilities. WITHOUT CLEARING IT FIRST.

They are so careless, they even sent notice to my mother's current facility TO WHICH WE HAD NOT GIVEN NOTICE. Fortunately, this did not damage her care, but not everybody stays at an ethical place. Want to take that risk?

Find a place that actually has someone sit down with you for a long interview, then accompanies you to the places they refer. It will cost you the same (nothing), and you'll be far happier. We fired "A Place for Mom (to get abused)" and were fortunate to find Senior Solutions.

The difference is night and day.

Daniel

My sister was EXTRAORDINARILY difficult to place (strokes AND cancer). Nick Chareas kept in touch and refused to quit. Trust me, there are a LOT of places that just go through the motions when it comes to caring for people with exceptional difficulties. Nick NEVER stopped trying to help.

We found this place on an internet search. They referred us to "Peoria assisted living". We moved my mother in there because she had the beginning of dementia. Within a month she was dead. WE ALSO FOUND OUT AT LEAST 7 OTHER PEOPLE DIED AT " PEORIA ASSISTED LIVING "Nobody dies from Dementia within the first COUPLE MONTHS JUST AFTER THEY WAKE UP ONE DAY. Before 2 months my mom was dead. This facility, "A place for mom" does not screen the company's they refer and wherever they refer you could be DETRIMENTAL TO YOUR LOVED ONE. PLEASE TAKE CAUTION WHEN SEARCHING FOR A PLACE FOR YOUR LOVED ONE.

My sister does a search for my 91 year old mother with Alzheimer's and here they come! Their little army of con men & women. They hound you with so many emails & calls. They seem so concerned. But they are not. They recommended we move our mother from TRV /Taos to Pacifica Santa Fe. They did the hook up. My sister was given the hard sell from Pacifica. Of course APFM gets a commission. Turns out that Pacifica has two wrongful death suits since 2015. I do my research. A Place For Mom does not. They have all these Google ads, hard wired to track you, call you, and generally bug you to death. In 2015 I tried working with them until I received 20 emails in one hour & 4 phone calls. Really?

Here is what I found out about Pacifica Senior Living in Santa Fe where APFM recommended. From Santa Fe New Mexican (reporter Rebecca Moss)
"A review of state health inspection records for Pacifica in 2017 found 74 violations in the previous 13 years, including failure to report patient falls and injuries, neglect of immobile residents and insufficient training of new workers."

The more you search the worse it gets.

Folks research these places yourself. You do not need A Place For Mom.

Tip for consumers:
Do your own research. Privacy issues abound.

Products used:
Used their service to find senior living. It's a call. They get a commission if you end up buying from a site they send you to.

I recently reached out to "A Place for Mom" for a place for my own mother. I received a call by a receptionist who transferred me to a representative by the name of "Bardee Johnston" when she got on the phone she immediately "Hi Liz, my name is Bardee Johnston we have places from $2500 to 5,000 is this something you're looking for?" I said actually no my mom is on SSI and doesn't make that much money do you know of any other locations that may be a little cheaper. She said "No, I'll send you a resource guide" and just HUNG UP followed by a beep. She didn't take the time to ask me about my mom or what services/amenities she was looking for, or how much my mom was looking to spend, if we had any additional financial resources or try to help out in anyway! She just hung up and sent me some generic resource list with local government agency telephone numbers. But we are not a low income family and my mom doesn't meet the criteria for the government options she sent us. But she didn't even bother to take the time out to ask those questions. It was sad to learn that a company who claims they have seniors in their best interest hire people who truly don't care about seniors or their best interests. I will be doing my own research instead.

If you want to be harassed by every Senior living Facility within 1000 miles of your home... go on "A place for Mom's Website"! Within 45 seconds of me putting my name, Email address & phone number to sign in to their website... I was already receiving calls from ever senior living facility within 5 or 6 states away! I just wanted some general information "for the future" but now have had to turn my ringer off because they apparently gave my phone number to every senior living facility on the planet! It was either turn my ringer off or lose my job! It amazes me how you can't even get general information anymore w/o being harassed 24/7 by every company whose even remotely involved in what you were trying to get information about. If they're that desperate for residents... I'm a little Leary of sending one of my loved ones there... especially when they're 1500 miles away. Maybe some kids do that on purpose, so the don't have to be bothered w/ their parents when they get older, but I want my Dad close by when the time does come. I almost wish I hadn't even inquired now. No, I definitely wish I hadn't inquired now.

OH MY THIS PLACE CALLS YOU every week; I had to block them several times; they did not assist with my parents going to an assistant living. I accessed their site while my husband was receiving chemo; I told them that I was doing research and had to put my name and number in order to review this site. It has been a nightmare since 2018. When 1 parent passed they would not let up; they still kept calling; it was down right harassment!

Hi Melissa, thanks for your review and the opportunity to respond. The goal of an APFM Advisor is to be helpful, not a nuisance. Many times the families that contact us for help are in an urgent situation. On average we respond to an inquiry in less than two minutes. We try to be proactive and responsive, but not overbearing. We honor a family’s request to stop receiving referral information and follow-up calls and to be unsubscribed in our newsletters. If you would like for A Place for Mom to stop contacting you, please write to us at privacy@aplaceformom.com.
