Highly knowledgeable of this industry. Within 30 minutes after contacting APFM, I had 5 confirmed appointments, complete with contact names, addresses, phone numbers and a description of services available. Highly, highly recommended!
Elison of Lake Worth. FL is getting bad, The food is mediocre at best, maintenance is poor.and Sagora Corp.,the owners, does not seem to want to invest a penny to remedy the situation. Moral is at an all time low with staff and residents. I would think twice about placing a loved one here.
It was helpful to me that appointments were made and
Communication was done through APFM. Thank you.

We had an immediate need to find a place for our mom. The staff of A Place for Mom was incredibly helpful in guiding us through the process. We are very appreciative.

I contacted A Place for Mom and received so many phone calls I could not get my work done. This service does not understand that no one wants this many phone calls.

My Dad is 91 and a WW2 hero, and a retired Sr. Vice President of Nike. He was living at Good Samaritan in Kissimmee Florida for over 2 years. Then he was bullied by some of the maintenance guys because he was feeding the birds. However, instead of firing the guys, he was asked to leave. So we took my Dad home. Now, he forgets things and walks out the door at all hours of the night. So we decided it was time to place him in a home where he could be taken care of 24/7. I saw a commercial with Joan Lundon advocating for "a place for mom". So I contacted them. Then the 'time share' type pitch came. I kept telling them that we had a budget of $2500. 00 per month., They sent us to various places. Before we took time off from work, we stated our budget. When we arrived, they told us that the lowest price was $3200. 00 for basic care. Food was extra, activities were extra and so on. We were really upset as they would not tell us the price on the phone, telling us that they could work within our budget. When we arrived at the facility, they tried to up sell sell us, like a time share. They said stuff like "Isn't your father worth the extra money" Cant you sell something to afford the cost. Wow really bad. Now they keep calling me from all over the USA. Still trying to sell for Joan. Joan, you should be ashamed of yourself. No longer a fan.

You are NOT honest that you charge the residential homes an EXTREMELY LARGE FEE for the referral for a place that you have NOT previewed. FRAUDULENT REPRESENTATION just so you can get a fee from the homes. MORE than the monthly rent that a family pays.

Hi Margaret,
Thank you for your feedback. A Place for Mom is paid by our participating providers and communities, which enables us to offer families a cost-free service with no hidden fees.
Unfortunately, Americans are in a crisis when it comes to senior care. Senior living is expensive and it’s usually one of the most difficult decisions a family has to make. To help educate families on the costs associated with care, we created the Senior Care Price Index http://www.aplaceformom.com/senior-living-price-index which is a great resource to learn more about the costs associated with senior living.
Federal law prevents us from referring families directly to senior housing communities if the family desires to use public funds like Medicaid for housing costs. We have compiled tools to assist families with conducting their own independent search for their public funding needs. There are government resources available to help with the search for options. A few are listed below:
• Administration on Aging (www.aoa.gov): The “Elders and Families” section of the AoA is particularly useful for accessing links to information regarding state and local services for older adults and their families; public and private benefits programs; Medicare; and long-term care planning
• Eldercare.gov (www.eldercare.gov): This helpful website offers fact sheets, booklets and links to federal websites.
• U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (www.hud.gov/): Here you can find information on affordable housing for seniors and rental assistance, among other things.
• The National Council on Aging (www.ncoa.org): Provides a list of federal and state assistance programs.
• Department of Veterans Affairs (www.va.gov): Veteran’s benefits provide those who have served their country (some benefits extend to their spouses as well) financial assistance during their retirement years. To learn if you are eligible, visit this website and review the information under “Veteran Services.”
• Disability.gov (www.disabilityinfo.gov): A comprehensive guide on disability programs and services, including Social Security benefits and affordable, accessible housing. The website provides links to more than 14,000 resources from federal, state and local government agencies; academic institutions; and nonprofit organizations.
We also disclose on our website, in our advertisements, and in our communications that A Place for Mom is paid by our participating providers and communities. Because we are paid by our participating providers and communities, we are able to offer you a completely cost-free service. Families are welcome to do their own research to explore communities and services outside of our network, and use that information to make educated comparisons.
A Place for Mom was extremely helpful recommending senior communities for me to look at for my mom to live in. My mom is very happy in her new home. We are grateful for the service.

I mistakenly called a "Senior Advisor" number for information about Alizheimers facilities but I was sent to "A Place for Mom". I spoke with Carol Kalmanoff who asked all kinds of personal questions which I refused to answer. She then said she would send me a list of properties in my area if I would give her my home address and I could call if I wanted to make an appointment. In actuality, she sent ALL OF MY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO OVER 20 SALES PEOPLE. I have been inundated with cell phone calls and emails. It's disgusting what people will do to make money. I have called her twice and she refuses to return my calls--what a surprise. Run when you hear this name.

Utilizing a place for mom made finding a place for mom a lot easier.
Through their process, they help whittle down my choices to the most relevant facilities.
And the app put them all in one place.

It offered guidance for a situation I had no experience with.

If you have the capabilities to go on sitejabber, you have the ability to do what a place for mom does. They are like ambulance chasers. They will be your best friend, and the nicest people. UNTIL they find out where you loved one is. Then they turn and right away they are going after their money. If they don't get paid they threaten the care facility with collections, and then court. They will never follow up with about how your loved one is doing. They don't care! They want their money. Take the time and do your own research (On Line) don't be "STUPID" and let them get away with SCAMMING anyone else. If I could I would keep writing these reviews. I have contacted a place for mom, to all their different departments, from the CEO down for a couple of months now. They will not answer me or contact me. I will continue to write these reviews every where I can. Don't use this company. I see Charlie S. Company rep. Used to respond to these reviews, and even get in contact with some of the reviewers, maybe they will try to respond to me. Please do.

Don't use a place for mom to decide on an assisted living facility. Riverbend in Indiana looks good but is not when actually living there. They want you to use their nurse practioner and she is awful but will make a lot of money billing medicare and insurance. They make it difficult to use an outside doctor. They also allow a lot of outside people to come in to sell services to the residents without notifying family. These people are vulnerable and they prey on that.
After 6 months they wanted my mom to move to their "cottage" for memory care. When I checked it out, everyone is drugged in that facility. I had to move my mom in a hurry because they insisted she move to the cottage. I lost money because I had to move her in the middle of the month due to their behavior. She is actually a high functioning memory care patient. I had continuing problems with them not communicating with family when changing prescriptions when she first was there. Then when I changed to an outside doctor they continually told my mother that her doctor was not good. These people are awful. Like I said, the building looks good but the care is not there. Beware. They are also being sued by others (at least two that I know of) Capital owns this facility.

Hi Linda,
I'm so sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with Riverbend in Indiana. I think others searching for senior living will benefit from hearing your story. If you have a few minutes, please leave a review on our site dedicated to consumer-generated ratings and reviews: https://www.senioradvisor.com/
My experience was very negative with this person. I am sure there are people who do a good job but they seem to be in other parts of the country. And that is why I did not give one star. The places that called me were not really suitable other than they had the bedroom configuration I asked for. The first one sounded very nice for assisted living or independent living but once dementia sets in MOVE. Ratings on line said their facility was terrible for Memory Care. The next one did not charge extra for extra care-very suspicious. One place the ratio was 1:8 for moderate to severe dementia care-too low.
I leared also from looking with my sisters that you cannot visit a new facility in Washington DC and apply it to an older Facility run by the same company in the Bay Area. Each facility has it's own Managers and flavor. One needs to visit in person. Also, I would narrow down and then revisit the facilities at different times of day, Morning and afternoon. Are the redidents dressed in the am and clean. Is ther an odor to the facility? Are there activities going on and is the staff interacting. Your Mother or Father will probably complain about moving no matter where they go so you have to be the detective and figure out if the place you chose is working out. Many very nice assisted living locations do not have good care for dementia patients.

Hi Carla,
I'm sorry to hear this and I'm sorry we could not help you.
We agree, in order to make an informed decision, we strongly encourage that you and your loved one(s) tour the communities that interest you. This allows you to see firsthand the environment you or your loved one might experience on a day-to-day basis. You'll have the opportunity to meet the staff, engage with other residents, taste the food and enjoy activities of interest. It's truly a necessary step before you make a decision.
I also think others searching for senior living will benefit from hearing your story and the communities you visited. If you have a few minutes, please leave a review on our site dedicated to consumer-generated ratings and reviews: https://www.senioradvisor.com/
Thank you for your feedback.
This Company has a lot to learn for dealing with people that are disabled and are in need of assistance, they keep interupting when you are just asking questions on your current living abilties, the person I spoke with was Laura Paul and she was so rude I couldn't see anybody using this service for any kind of living environment, Take my advise and look else where!

I found that the prices that Place for Mom quote are much higher than when I called and asked. So, yes they do get a kick back and I think that is what is the real issue here. Instead of A Place for Mom going to the care place and evaluate whether it should be something they would recommend, they only recommend a place that will pay them to recommend them. For example, one place that was recommended, was not anyplace I would put my mom as it was on a busy street with a dirt lot for a back yard. Then the marketing phone calls began. Right after I gave A Place for Mom my house phone number, I began receiving marketing calls the following day which I never received before. A Place for Mom should change their strategy and do what the auto club does, they personally go to hotels and rate them to advise their clients. No one at A Place for Mom does that, so they could be sending you to a care place with a busy street and a dirt lot for a back yard and they don't know the difference. I would suggest A Place for Mom start considering going to the places they recommend instead of only recommending the places that will pay them. That is what is basically wrong with this whole company.

And you are correct; we do refer only to the senior living providers in our network. I have used a place for mom twice. The first time they did help get my mother in law placed and I really liked the representative we worked with. However I did get bombarded with soooo many calls and emails from places even after we picked a place. I also got a lot of phone calls from the representative, so much so that I ended up saving her number in my phone. The second time, we needed a higher level of care for my mother-in-law and their selection of places was limited, I didn't really like the representative I worked with, and still got annoying spam communication. My mother-in-law ended up passing away about a month ago and I let the representative know. They gave me a very quick oh sorry to hear that and no further communication. I asked them to let places know so that we would not continue to get communication. I continue to get e-mails from places a month later. The only thing a place for mom offers is the pricing for places which otherwise they don't often post on their websites but it comes at the cost of lots and lots of people calling and e-mailing you.

A Place for mom is not there to help you, they are there to help their network of facilities.
I had a horrible experience with the agency and ended up having to do everything they claimed to be willing to help with on my own.
Upon contacting them, they released all of my personal contact information to scores of facilities.
I was inundated with hundreds of email, phone calls and mail adverts. My contact only contacted me after our initial conversation long after I had figured it out myself.
This service is not there to do anything other than feed their network of facilities. They did not provide what they claimed to offer and left me and my family to handle it on our own.
They are a "free" service and they should be because they offer nothing. Do not waste your time with these people.
They prey on people in their most vulnerable moments to feed their corporate facility networks, who are in fact who funds their "Free Service".
