Highly knowledgeable of this industry. Within 30 minutes after contacting APFM, I had 5 confirmed appointments, complete with contact names, addresses, phone numbers and a description of services available. Highly, highly recommended!
Elison of Lake Worth. FL is getting bad, The food is mediocre at best, maintenance is poor.and Sagora Corp.,the owners, does not seem to want to invest a penny to remedy the situation. Moral is at an all time low with staff and residents. I would think twice about placing a loved one here.
All about the money.not very helpful, charge too much, leads does not really translate into a move in

I had to tell these vultures at least 6 times in a 2 week period that my father passed away. In the two weeks since he passed, I got at least a call a day from facilities in A DIFFERENT TOWN(!), even though I was told that my info would only be given to 3 facilities that we had discussed (in the correct location). They made an appointment for me to do a walk-through, and I had an official-looking e-mail confirmation, but the place didn't even know I was coming (from out of state!) Terrible communication and a horrible experience.
Right after I put in my online request for info, I received a call from them that I couldn't answer and a message. It was followed by THREE hang-up calls from A Place For Mom. Once I was able to answer their call, I talked with someone and she built the relationship. I felt better, but then every day I got a call from a NEW person from there asking me the same terrible questions about my dad and they seemed to have NO idea that one of their colleagues was already working with me.
The people behind the calls may seem to care and may actually have empathy and insight, but the company they work for must have terrible policies and clearly no quality control. I had asked them to remove my contact information from any distribution lists and their own, and I'm still getting calls.
YOU DO NOT NEED THIS COMPANY TO FIND QUALITY CARE! CALL YOUR OPTIONS DIRECTLY, BECAUSE THEY CAN'T EVEN SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR YOU PROPERLY. THEY WILL HARASS YOU. THEY DON'T HAVE THE CAPACITY TO REMOVE YOU FROM DISTRIBUTED LISTS. OVERMORE, THEY JUST DON'T CARE!

One of the most cold hearted, money-grabbing companies I have ever had to deal with.
If you ever call them for ANY reason of ANY kind, they now own you and everyone in your family and will legally go after any commission they can snag off your loved ones banks. Any time someone in your family moves into any senior housing or assisted living, they will claim them for literally thousands of dollars of commission each time they move until the day they die. Their entire structure is built of of 100% commission regardless of how much they have helped you or not. This is why many assisted living facilities have rejected them and dont use them anymore. They claim to care for seniors, but literally just claim a stake in their moves. I have talked to dozens of them and I'm sad to report that i have yet to find a single one of them that care about seniors more than money. Management is the worst as they are so money oriented. Each time your loved ones move they claim upwards of 95% of youd lived ones rent, which means the place thst is actually carrying for your loved one is losing money for the first 70-90 days your loved one lives at their new home.
Many people unintentionally use their services because they will Google the location of homes and not know they are clicking on A Place For Mom website. They are set up as predators. They will even claim to be the location you are seeking and not their own company.
I would advise to stay far away from them as any good and honest and reputable assisted living communities will NOT use them, which means they will steer YOU away from all the good ones unbeknownst to you.

Hi Sheridan - we're sorry to hear you feel this way. We share a common vision with our customers: we all want what’s best for seniors. We aim to provide families with the knowledge and confidence to allow them to move forward with good choices for aging family members. A Place for Mom has more than 18,500 partners that span a wide range of care types and price points. We aim to add value to our partners by helping them market their community and connect with families that are a good match. Our service helps introduce providers to families and families to providers. These interactions would likely not take place without A Place for Mom making the connections. A service like A Place for Mom (APFM) can be a valuable resource for families navigating the complexities of senior care options. APFM is paid by our participating providers and communities (not families), which enables us to offer families a cost-free service. We prohibit any participating community/provider from passing through our fees to the consumer, charging additional amounts because the consumer used our services, or withholding discounts from the consumer.
The ALF I chose, I would not have know about without A Place for Mom. They made it so much easier by having a few places call me.

It seems that many of the negative reviews come from people who do not understand that A Place FOR MOM is a referral agency. If you go to a facility that charges a fee to move in it has nothing to do with APFM. If the companies call you and don't show prices on their websites it is because typically there is no one set price for health care. The price is not solely based on private room or semi-private room rate. The level of care is also added into the pricing so there is no way to have that many different prices listed. Resident A is a male that can take care of himself, very little assistance needed. Resident B is a male that is in a wheelchair, incontinent and has dementia. Obviously Resident B will need to pay more than Resident A. Many of the facilities use an FL2 completed by a doctor to determine level of care needed. The facilities do not simply make up fees at random. APFM charges the facilities a fee if a resident moves into a location. APFM does a lot of foot work to screen potential residents and also screens the facilities to the best of their ability. APFM is not to be blamed if a facility employee calls you and is rude or dismissive. I typically do not reply to other people's opinions but I wanted to shed some light on how the referrals work because I saw APFM getting blamed for things that had nothing to do with their organization. As far as the facilities complaining about APFM and their fees you must keep in mind that you would not have gotten that resident to move into your location without APFM. The fees may seem to be expensive however you do not have to pay for the advertising and the agents screening applicants. Well, I hope this helps someone understand about APFM. Don't expect that APFM has gone to visit the locations that they give you.
Thank you,
LR

During my search for an assisted living facility for my mother I came across A Place for Mom so gave them a call to find out what they were about. After talking at length with my consultant I was excited they would help in my search and seemed to be a great resource. What was never divulged is the minute you give them your loved ones full name and the area you are looking they put you into their large database and you are 'locked in' for two years to their company. What then happens is whatever place you decide on has to pay A Place for Mom a large commission out of their operating budget. Most folks don't know this nor do they care as it's of no cost to you, just the facility. Where this backfired on me is I later found another competing company but whom are actually local and had a much better grasp on the area facilities so I wanted to work with them but A Place for Mom locked everyone else out. A Place for Mom is located across the country but does use area consultants. You may luck out with a much better one than I had. After my lengthy conversation with my consultant about being interested in only assisted living facilities he provided with a list which included appointments for mostly 'Independent Living' facilities! I explained my mothers long term care insurance would not cover, nor is she able to live independently. Followup from this consultant was practically non existent. I was back on my own. Several weeks of no contact from him I called a Place for Mom to place a complaint. The woman I spoke with was so sorry I had that experience and said she would have a new consultant call me within a day or two at most as I stated my situation was urgent. I never received a call back or email from anyone with a Place for Mom yet they received their commission from the facility my mom is now in. If you are looking for a referral service I would recommend finding one local to your area. The one who actually helped me and explained how these services actually work is called 'All About Seniors'. The owner went out of his one late evening to contact the director of the facility my mother is now in to help facilitate an in home assessment that took place the next morning. I spent considerable time talking to them all while they knew I was locked into A Place for Mom. They did this out of the goodness of their heart, not for the commission. I hope this review helps as I know first hand how difficult and stressful this process is.
Good luck to all!

Gave rep at APFM our family's brief overview.
This was not my first rodeo & was initially skeptical of any efforts they could assist in finding, 'a place for Mom'!
Skepticism proved accurate.
Rep sent many more housing needs than requested, then followed by calls daily, late at night & on weekends. Rep asked pressing personal financial questions that I would never give a stranger. Rep was pushy & argumentative, always had an answer for everything which was my first flag!
Should have known that the referral housing they sent us to pays APFM for their referral services!
Better off to do my own research!
If you need help. Ask the internet general questions, ask your Drs, community organizations, government agencies... any place but this one!
Just read the BBB reviews & that should tell you everything you need to know for, 'A Place for Mom'.
A) Never EVER give out personal information about yourself or your family to any agency/housing until you have narrowed down your search, then be very guarded about what private info you DO give out. The internet is full of methods of how to protect personal information when doing a search for a parent or family member.
B) If you give out your personal number or email, just block them! Always insist on being on a DO NOT CONTACT LIST, IF BY CHANCE YOU ACCIDENTALLY GIVE OUT YOUR PHONE #.
C) There are a lot of methods to check out housing. Do an internet search, ensure you check scams, always check Better Business Bureau, YELP, as the first line of defense this info will assist initially.
D) By all means check out the internet & search housing suggestions for lawsuits of housing that you are contemplating.
Be careful, we wise, this is your loved one that is going to live there. Good luck!

We are providers of a couple of adult care homes in Oregon. They are residential homes caring for up to 5 individuals. APFM was helpful a few years ago when referring private pay clients to us for placement. At that time, the referral fee from us to APFM was 100% of the first month charges and is now 120%. It is a reasonable fee if the placement would be long term, BUT - If the person has an uneventful death in the first week, the fee to APFM is still due.
As I read through reviews, this can range from 50 to 150 of the cost paid by the facility. This is why many are seeing an application charge on their statements.
Their business model is to send out potential client email and phone numbers to as many providers as possible to collect their fee as they want to be the 'first' in line for a referral.
We occasionally call when we have an opening to the families and often find out that they have been inundated with unwanted phone calls across the various levels of care providers from nursing homes, assisted living, specialized living and others. A 'Senior Living' advisor has never been to our home and really has no idea what it takes to provide care to each individuals needs.
The number of providers in our are who follow the residential model using APFM is declining due to their high costs and level of knowledge for providing care.
I have to give them credit for an aggressive business model in dialing for dollars but from an ethical standpoint, it is something most people would not do.
When a loved one does need care beyond what they are able to receive living at home, it can be stressful on the families. There are resources available if you turn over a few rocks and research were you can. The licensing authorities in each state can provide a list of licensed facilities (assisted living, adult foster/family care homes, residential care homes, full nursing facilities, etc) in your area.
Ask questions of the providers as no question is a dumb one, such as; When my Mothers care needs increase, will she be asked to leave? Visit at a meal time to see what is being served. Talk to other residents in the building if you can... Do you like it here? Good providers want good placements for your loved one and their family. Don't make up stories how Uncle Bob is a really nice guy when it is known he likes to grab at the boobs. It will result in a notice to move or a large rate increase. Not everyone is a good fit in a particular home, but might do better elsewhere.
Lastly, take a big whiff when you walk in the door. If it smells bad...
Do your homework, this is a parent or loved one you may be placing for the remainder of their life.

A Place For Mom needs to include in their advertisements that people should first call their State for info about recent State Surveys regarding any facility they are considering for placement. At the present time, A Place For Mom has a facility in Carmel, Indiana where an employee (possible Administrator) who has been called "unfit to practice" states she works. She was written up on the front page of The Star Press in Muncie, Indiana while being the Administrator at Lynd House. Https :// thestarpress. Newspapers. Com/image/*******/? Terms=Lynd%2BHouse She allowed a resident to administer insulin to another, on the "buddy system." My loved one entered the hospital- while being in her care with a whooping glucose level (over 1000) and the hospital staff referred to this as not only abuse but being a "comatose" level. This Administrator interfered in our family, caused division and drama and even took my loved one who had Alzheimers, somewhere to sign legal papers without my knowledge. He was not capable of giving consent. He remembered going somewhere with her and kept trying to tell me. I was his only biological relative and family member in the area. When I confronted the Administrator, wanting to know where she took him, she said she did not know what I was talking about. I later discovered the legal papers. She had her name added to his bank account and assisted in helping two people (who were 2,000 miles away) get Power of Attorney for my loved one. They did not even have to go to court... there is no national database, to my knowledge, for Power of Attorneys. There can be one in one state and one crop up in another. These two people whom the Administrator helped get Power of Attorney had an ongoing history of cruelty with our family and an axe to grind. At the hospital, they changed the family password, barred visitors (including myself) and my loved one spent his last days laying secluded in a hospital room. Then, to my horror, they ended my loved one's life without my knowledge this would happen. I hold this Administrator responsible for what happened to my loved one. I will move heaven and earth to make sure this does not happen to another family. When A Place for Mom promotes its services, they also promote this dangerous employee. She also has worked in New Castle, Indiana. I have talked with the State about her and I encourage everyone using A Place for Mom to call the State before choosing a facility. State surveys provide public info and it could save your loved one's life.

Unlike their commercials and web site claim, they are not experts knowing the options.
Tip for consumers:
This used to be a decent company decades ago. They've now become a gigantic nuisance to families and to the senior care industry.

Hi Les,
Our local Senior Living Advisors learn your needs, which helps narrow your search so you don’t have to look through thousands of listings online. Your Advisor will ask questions to get an understanding of your personal situation and will then identify and provide a list of the providers and/or communities from our network that meet your care needs and budget.
I contacted the company on Sunday. Someone got back to me right away. By Monday I had several places scheduled to visit. Those places were very welcoming and had bearing price ranges. We found a place and was able to contract in about three weeks time definitely would recommend a place for mom. Outstanding service.
Was at a loss at where to start looking. They did all the legwork upfront.

I had only just emailed 'a place for mom' when I immediately heard back from someone who assisted me daily with so many questions and options of care for my mom. David was so helpful and sent me so many highly rated ALF in my area that were all able to accommodate my situation immediately. The extra information I receive through email has also been a huge help in regards to what questions to ask when touring a facility right down to payment information. I called many state agencies and did not get any responses so this was my saving grace. I cannot sing their praises enough!
Tried all other options and my husband told me about a commercial for this one so I tried it.

The concierge service that a Place for Mom provides is tremendously helpful. I provided the concierge Natalie with my price range and my Moms needs. And distance range. She provided me five places to tour. Out of the five that I toured. Two were perfect. Great follow up on their end to see if you need any thing else. I would highly recommend this service for anyone trying to find a place for their loved one but are overwhelmed by the choices. This service saved me a tremendous amount of time and energy, which would've been otherwise spent calling around and driving. It was like having your own personal realtor.
I was feeling overwhelmed after the Hurricanes and needed to relocate Mom in a timely manner.
Having someone help narrow down the selections was a time saver.

While the agents at A Place for Mom seem wonderful, I wish nursing homes / Senior Living were more transparent about pricing. They should have basic costs on their website, explain rates of yearly increases and list potential additional care costs. During a 6 month search for a future place for my mother in law, basic rent went from $3500 to $4400 a month. Only one place was able to share additional care costs as up to another $3700 a month and that was just a verbal amount. I can only imagine all the additional costs that will rack up. What does one do for a parent with limited means? Once a parent is in assisted living, costs keep going up and then when she cant pay, she has to leave. That is crazy.
It popped up with a couple other sites. It is a good way to get pricing and recommendations on places to tour near me.

After getting a disturbing diagnosis for my mom, I had to find care options that fitted her specific situation. I did not need for assistant living, but I needed something with an independent living feel that had the services I needed. Mary got in touch with me and heard all of the things I needed for my mom. She immediately looked up resources within my budget, and that was on a Friday by Monday. We had found my mom's new home that had everything she wanted and everything I wanted to ensure a great quality of life and the security that I wanted. And all within my budget, although there were plenty other options to choose from Mary gave me the order of which would probably best fit my need and her number one was my number one. She even helped me find additional resources covered by insurance This service provided saved me from a strenuous search and an uneducated search. I was able to make a decision with my sanity and my peace of mind intact.
Originally, it was to find resources within a budget. I had no idea that I would have a personal advisor after speaking with Mary. I felt comfortable that she understood my needs and trusted her to assist me.
