"A Place for mom" was a huge asset in helping my sisters and I, when it came time for our mom to move to an assisted living home. Our representative was knowledgeable, understanding, empathetic and showed great patience. Having never been down this road before the whole process would have been agony without their guidance and knowledge. From helpful and educational emails on various topics to supplying us with a list of properties to tour, and following up questions about decisions or additional information.
Please don't trust these people. They are all in it together. They stole all my mother's money and promised she'd always have a place to stay. They threw her in the hospital and refused to take her back into their facility when she finally got to another facility, they starved her to death. She went from 124 pounds down to 86 pounds in one month during Covid. I wasn't allowed to visit, they killed her Do not trust them they are all in it together. They act like they want to help you and they're so sympathetic soon as they get your money you can't get in touch with them.
Worst con job around! Super useless! Called at beginning of April. Told no partners in town I live. Advised I wanted closest city, i. E. Asheville. No one called back. Called again 05/04/17: Told someone had already spoken with me in April and they could not help me. Period! Don't waste your time with these useless middlemen and nothing but a damn con job.
My sister called A Place for Mom to help me locate places to consider for our mom. I think she had a decent phone experience with a rep and the rep emailed her places I'd seen on the web. We chose Senior Home Choice 6 in Gahanna, Ohio. This place was not a warm environment and the supervising owners were rarely there -- living out of town. I only met one of the two in a few months' time my mom was there. My mom suffered a bad fall there due to no fault of her own, and the two in charge NEVER called me to see how my mom was doing. And they NEVER apologized. Tried to blame the aide on duty and my mom for trying to go to the bathroom. Unacceptable in a place you trust to care for an elderly parent. She died three weeks later.
I called them a couple of years ago for information on assisted living facilities in Mooresville, NC area in which my mom (95) lived.
After that one call to a nice lady, I received at least 50 more calls at home in NH. Over the next 18 months many different people called; day and night. I told them to stop calling and they did not. I finally called corporate and told them to stop calling and they finally stopped. Do you know they are paid by only the living facilities that will pay them there fee. What this means, What about the best or safest facilities. They won't mention them? Make your own visits to assisted living facilities.
I would rate them negative if I could. Yes I went to the site. Yes I gave them my information. They were recommended by someone at my MiL's church. However, they immediately started calling me FIVE or more times a day. Finally on about the third day I spoke with someone and asked them to stop calling me. I needed to compile information from family members before I could have anything like an intelligent conversation. Well, they are back to calling me five times a day. No one even bothers to leave a VM. I only know it's them by looking up this second number on the internet. I'm now blocking these numbers, and I wouldn't use their service if someone paid me.
David Albert was a perfect guide thru the maze of options and facilities. He was very knowledgeable, but NEVER pushy. Available, but NEVER even close to nagging. I'm extremely thankful for the assistance I received. Mom is now 10 minutes away and HAPPY! Thank you, David!
This "service" is a true disaster! You are in such a vulnerable position when you call these "help" providers and all they do is take advantage of the situation! I was horrified to find out by calling them some of the Senior Home care place would not consider taking my family member because A place for mom would hit them with a HUGE Commission! Do not call them! HORRIBLE service!
I contacted them on a weekend and really didn't expect a reply right away, but was contacted that same day and was given information on the ones in my area. I found a great place for my Dad in an assisted living facility near me.
Thank you for sharing!
I was assigned Tara Luck and all she did was send me a link that I could put my zip code in to find places close to me. Which I could of done that myself. When I asked for more help she never returned my email. I thought you were supposed to help people find place to stay.
Same here. I found A Place for Mom to be pretty useful but I don't know how much I trust them. They are probably just trying to get me to place my loved one in an Alzheimer's home or some lousy nursing home they get paid for. But I still used them for leads.
I contacted a place for mom a couple of years before I needed to place her in an assisted living facility. A place for mom gave me a list based on my mom's physical and financial needs. I took my time to review each facility and am very happy with the one I selected which happened to be the last one I visited. My mom has been there for 8 months and it was a perfect fit for her.
Thank you for sharing, Marlene! We are so happy to hear your mom found the perfect fit!
Working with 'A Place for Mom' was easy and straight forward. Using the references and suggestion sites, we were able to identify a place and begin the process of the move. Unfortunately, our Parent passed-away the day she was suppose to move into the new residence.
Everyone was very understanding and kind during our difficult time.
I had success finding a place for my mom but felt that this time I didn't get as much guidance. I did most of the work myself but appreciated a list to go by.
It’s easier to have all of options in one area and they did that for me twice now. I recommend others use it because it’s so difficult to stay organized during the process of finding the right place.
I was desperate to quickly find a great place for my Mom and "A place for Mom" was a God Send! They listened carefully to what I needed for my Mom and responded immediately with places that would meet her needs. Within a week I had my Mom in her new assisted living home and she has never been happier! Thank You for your help and guidance during this process. You all are Fantastic!
We appreciate you sharing this with us!
They helped me find the right place for my mother, but it took some time, they do not always start with the best cost effective places, but will help hunt it down. Very helpful and easy way to find the right place.
Great to hear!
The moment I contacted them they were very helpful in helping me make an informed decision as to where my dad was going for his needs at this time. The articles they provided me were very helpful in dealing with my loved one going to an assisted living facility.
They will tell you all the wonderful places that are available in the area you are searching, quoting prices, but when it comes down to actually researching those places you find out that they are either not available or are charging much more than what they initially tell you. Find a Place for Mom is a scam.
Hi Kenneth,
Thank you for your feedback and I’m sorry you had a bad experience. We endeavor to have up to date information from our partner providers. Some partners are better at providing us updated information and some partners are lax in providing us updated information. Availability in particular can change by the day and week. We are constantly working on making sure the information our providers have given to us is up to date.
A Place for Mom was very helpful narrowing my search when I was looking for assisted living for my mother. They took my requirements and then I had a list to work from to find the right choice. They would follow up and make sure I had what I needed. Thanks for helping. Laura F
Thank you and we are so happy we could help you out!
Mt Alverna is the worse place for a loved one if they can't speak for themselves. A nurse was supposed to give my parent medication & did not. She proceeded to lie & then after filling a complaint she verbally attacked me in front of my mother along with her supervisor who was screaming in front of my parent. I asked her to stop she was scaring my mother. I then filed a complaint the next day with administration & everyone turned again me saying it was hard to believe. I removed my mother. If the entire staff has each other's backs in this capacity you have to ask yourself what do they hide from everyone's family regarding their loved ones. I find this to be a very dangerous place & wouldn't leave a dog in their care. The religious aspect is a facade they lure faithful people in with. The higher ups are the worse humans I've ever dealt with. If you love someone do not leave them here. Listen to your gut instinct & look passed the fake smiles.
They only do placements for homes that don't accept Medicaid.
If you can sell your parents home and pay $30,000 - $75,000 a year for care, go for it. If you need help locating a facility and don't have the cash, too bad for you.
A Place for Mom is the most helpful organization I have ever dealt with for this type of situation.
Used this service before
Before my mother passed away, I tried to get her into A Place for Mom here in Victorville, California. She had dementia. Unfortunately, they would not take her because she was too poor. I could not afford to pay for her costly private care they wanted. She ended up going to a public facility in Redlands, which was also horrible.
When I first contacted A Place for Mom it turned out that I didn't need them. However, they didn't forget about us and would contact me every so often. Then they contacted me when I was looking for an assisted living facility for my mom, and they helped me find a really nice assisted living facility for mom. Extremely happy!
We are so happy to hear this!
Continuous calling. Anybody that desperate can't be doing anything right, in my opinion. These people labeled a place for Mom call day and night. I don't think that anyone wants to be bullied by these people. I refuse to answer my phone when a place for mom is calling day and night. Thank God for phone monitoring. In my opinion this place is the worst. If anyone is in need of assistance, they certainly do not want to be harassed. In my opinion these people need to get a grip and stop harassing sick and elderly people.
A Place for Mom led us to housing and care opportunities for my mother that we didn't even know existed. During a time of real stress, it was everything to have someone helping to identify options. Our advisor was calm and certain; his demeanor was a welcomed light during what felt like a dark time.
I don't know what to do to get them to stop. I told them I can only work with them by email, I have gotten 10 calls in 2 days form different names. At this point I will never use them. I don't blame the callers, they are doing what the company tells them--read up they are now owned by investment group for-profit. No thank you.
We are sorry to hear about your experience. Please email us at privacy@aplaceformom.com so we can add you to our do not contact list.
