Highly knowledgeable of this industry. Within 30 minutes after contacting APFM, I had 5 confirmed appointments, complete with contact names, addresses, phone numbers and a description of services available. Highly, highly recommended!

“Poor food maintenance and moral”

Davina L.

Elison of Lake Worth. FL is getting bad, The food is mediocre at best, maintenance is poor.and Sagora Corp.,the owners, does not seem to want to invest a penny to remedy the situation. Moral is at an all time low with staff and residents. I would think twice about placing a loved one here.

I called looking for a Nursing Home for my mother in Orlando, FL. I was transferred to a "Nurse Advocate" who said, "sorry, don't do nursing homes, but call this number for a partner", who said, "don't do nursing homes in Florida... sorry... see ya".

Hmmm... might be a niche market there for ya.

Don't bother calling these people. You can get the same advise and help for free from other agencies. They only want to help people with money so their commission for referrals to the actual facilities are greater. They don't care about the elderly, only the money that they have!

APlaceForMom C. – A Place for Mom Rep

Hi Ana,

Thank you for your feedback. A Place for Mom is paid by our participating providers and communities, which enables us to offer families a cost-free service with no hidden fees.

Unfortunately, Americans are in a crisis when it comes to senior care. Senior living is expensive and it’s usually one of the most difficult decisions a family has to make. To help educate families on the costs associated with care, we created the Senior Care Price Index http://www.aplaceformom.com/senior-living-price-index which is a great resource to learn more about the costs associated with senior living.

Federal law prevents us from referring families to certain senior housing communities if the family desires to use public funds like Medicaid for housing costs. We have compiled tools to assist families with conducting their own independent search for their public funding needs. There are government resources available to help with the search for options. A few are listed below:

• Administration for Community Living (www.acl.gov): ACL brings together the efforts and achievements of the Administration on Aging, the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and the HHS Office on Disability to serve as the Federal agency responsible for increasing access to community supports, while focusing attention and resources on the unique needs of older Americans and people with disabilities across the lifespan.
• Eldercare.gov (www.eldercare.gov): This helpful website offers fact sheets, booklets and links to federal websites.
• U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (www.hud.gov/): Here you can find information on affordable housing for seniors and rental assistance, among other things.
• The National Council on Aging (www.ncoa.org): Provides a list of federal and state assistance programs.
• Department of Veterans Affairs (www.va.gov): Veteran’s benefits provide those who have served their country (some benefits extend to their spouses as well) financial assistance during their retirement years. To learn if you are eligible, visit this website and review the information under “Veteran Services.”
• Disability.gov (www.disability.gov): A comprehensive guide on disability programs and services, including Social Security benefits and affordable, accessible housing. The website provides links to more than 14,000 resources from federal, state and local government agencies; academic institutions; and nonprofit organizations.

Using the money of companies and basically stealing! They charge companies for placements that are not place by the company. If families click their website but don't use their services they still charge the community if the family moves in.

A Place for Mom provided great resources while we were searching for the perfect place for our loved one. Lisa was a wonderful adviser who was patient and understanding about our needs and concerns. We have been blessed with a great new home for our loved one where she is cared for in a wonderful way.

Immediately after logging onto the site, I was asked for my email and phone number. I did NOT ask for a phone call. A pop up told me I was going to receive a phone call. There was no way to stop it. I was busy with errands and other things all weekend... including taking care of Mom. Everywhere I went my phone was blowing up with calls from this place. At times I answered it, just because I wanted to tell them to STOP... but there was no one on the other end. I feel it was a huge mistake entering this website and giving this company my phone number. The entire weekend including Sunday, it just never stopped. The last call a woman who barely spoke English left a message on the voicemail that it was the LAST call. Finally... Peace.

Tip for consumers:
Beware of very aggressive phone calling without asking for a phone call.

Gayla Dailey has helped find my mom an independent living place, then assisted living, and now memory care! She has guided me through this with many phone calls and arranged visits with the top facilities in Austin. I couldn't have done it without her. Many tears were shed as I had to move mom as her dementia progressed. She truly loves her job and has so much compassion! Gayla Dailey, thank you!

A Place for Mom gets paid based on referral fees from the senior living communities it recommends and provides information on, so I find it very hard to trust any of the information on the site. That means their real paying customers are the senior living companies, not the consumers who use their site. Good businesses shouldn't take referral fees. Aplaceformom's tag line "Trusted Senior Living Advisors" seems spurious. Instead, I would recommend the federal government's elder care locator site: http://www.eldercare.gov/

I called the facilities and some facilities contacted me in order to make appointment to view the facility. Everyone was nice to talk to even when I had already made my decision.

Reason I chose this business:

I needed to find a place for my Mother closer to me and didn’t know all the options in my area. I seen the commercials plus I have a friend who used them.

When my mother needed to go into an assisted living facility, I began searching for information from multiple sources. A Place for Mom showed up in my research. The consultant PUSHED me into appointments with several facilities, including those that were outside the area where my mother wanted to live. I cancelled many of them so as to not waste their time. She called so many times that I stopped answering the phone. We decided on a facility that I visited BEFORE contact with A Place for Mom. A Place for Mom harassed the facility for its finders fee, and when I wrote to the consultant about the situation, she did not have the courtesy to answer my message. She was rude on so many levels.

I was challenged with getting my father in assisted living and " A Place for Mom" helped me get virtual tours since; I was in California and he was in New York. We picked a place we liked. Flew out and saw it in person. My father is now safe and well care for!

The care my Mother in law is receiving, the friendly staff, and the nice room are all exceptional.
We have had dinner and the food is great. The upper patio is beautiful.
When it is time my Mother will be there also.

When my contact person from A Place for Mom called me, she listened to me try to explain through tears why I needed to find a place to care for my mom. She was so patient, caring while explaining to me my options. I felt like I was speaking to someone who knew me and wanted what was best for my mom. After a week, she called to check on my progress. When I told her I put it off, she offered to come with me, to ask questions, to help me make a decision. She called again two weeks later.
I had found a place and was in the process of moving my mom in. I am so grateful I called.

I called A Place for Mom as I did not know where to start finding a place for mom. The only holdback was mom not wanting to move. Someone called several times during the year to see if we were ready. It was because of this continuous contact that A Place for Mom found us a home for mom. From her apartment to hospital to her new home. Perfect timing! Large room with her own bathroom she loves. Great work ladies and thanks for all your help and understanding.

What many don't realize is A Place for Mom will recommend a community without any of their staff visiting the community. How can you recommend a community without physically visiting a place?

What are these communities sacrificing if a community can provide a deal to move in? Not profits. They are sacrificing staff.

Ask a Place for Mom how many are on staff and for how long in the community they recommend.

Ask a Place for Mom who will actually be looking out for and caring for your loved one? Don't let them include the maintenance staff.

And get ready to be bombarded with calls and emails, all promising deals. A Place for Mom does not listen to what is essential to you. They will send their paying communities your contact info.

The problem isn't so much A Place For Mom, it's their clients. I've had to look for assisted living twice for a relative and ended up at a place for Mom for one reason: These places hide their prices as if it were a state secret. So I end up with A Place For Mom or other broker because it's just too tedious to call every place in town. I can find out everything else I need online but not the prices. Hey, you prices with A Place For Mom who gives it to your customers. Why not just disclose prices right on your website? I tried emailing for prices and a salesperson called me! Aarggh..

Everyone was very helpful and kind, my only concern was the place where we ended up going into didn't exactly live up to what they said they would be doing for my mom. They misrepresented what they said they were about, so maybe making visiting they properties a priority would be good! T

Kim was helpful in directing me to facilities and knowing what to look for and what to ask. After searching 11 facilities I found a place for my parents and moved them in. I know that kim was with me every step of the way. She also helped me to get information on VA benefits to help my parents with their monthly rent.

A Place for Mom was everything portrayed in their commercials and more. Nancy found us the right place, the best place for our Mom at 3-4K a month less than places we found on our own not as good as Capitol Ridge wanted to charge us. Nancy followed through answered all outlet questions, and clearly told us what to expect. What a great supporter at a stressful and confusing time.

My experience began a few years ago. Short and to the point Out of the 6-10 places that were recommended to me there was only maybe two worth seeing. I'm only writing a review because Ms. Dinah Pearce in the MDW area was my POC. She called me often to see if I'd found a place for my sister. Thought the calls were out of concern until recently I did some research and found out if you place your loved one in a facility they recommend they will receive a big payoff! This wouldn't upset me so much if they did some research and view the places before recommending them. You can do a lot better doing your own research in finding an appropriate place for your loved one! Such a heart breaking decision to place your family member... please BEWARE!

We were looking for a specific place for my mom to stay for three months to get her out of the cold. A Place for Mom broke it down for us and we were able to connect and find the best option for her.

Reason I chose this business:

It was a starting point to find a place for respite care for my mom during the winter months.

I placed five calls to this organization and they promised to have their "advisor" get in touch with me. That NEVER HAPPENED!
I went looking on my own.
I inquired about them at the facility I found. My name had been provided to them, and even though that's ALL they did, they were receiving a fee for the work that I did!
This really should be illegal.

You might as well do it yourself. A Place For Mom did nothing. I was looking for assisted living for my mother and was told by the referring nursing home they would set up tour appts. And all kinds of things. They called once and the only thing they did was give my name out to every assisted living place in town so I was inundated with phone calls. The "advisor" was in another city and did not know neighborhoods here. I had to set up all tour appts. And find prices myself. She did not answer emails gave me a long distance phone number and finally called back after we had chosen a place. I'm sure she got a commission for doing NOTHING.

I greatly appreciate the help we received from A Place for Mom. I google searched several places on my own, then contacted A Place for Mom to see what else may be available. My mother ended up selecting one of the choices that A Place for Mom found for us and we are SO happy with the result. I also appreciated that we didn't get bombarded with calls from multiple senior facilities, just received a few calls from the facilities on the short list provided by them.
