Highly knowledgeable of this industry. Within 30 minutes after contacting APFM, I had 5 confirmed appointments, complete with contact names, addresses, phone numbers and a description of services available. Highly, highly recommended!

“Poor food maintenance and moral”

Davina L.
12/23/24

Elison of Lake Worth. FL is getting bad, The food is mediocre at best, maintenance is poor.and Sagora Corp.,the owners, does not seem to want to invest a penny to remedy the situation. Moral is at an all time low with staff and residents. I would think twice about placing a loved one here.

The Brookdale Care Center is a clean and inviting place to live. The staff is very friendly and caring to all residents. There are plenty of activties for all residents to participate in. The rooms are like their own apartments. Our mom looks forward to her meals in the dining room. A very nice place. Would recommend to anyone looking for special care for their loved ones.

I was referred to a Place for Mom from a friend, and I started out really liking the rep I was working with. I felt she was helpful in sending me places based on the specifications I gave her. But I was clear from the start that this could be a long process and we didn't have an exact timeline to move on anything. There were a few times she sent more places to me outside of the area I said we were looking, without asking me, which opened up the floodgates of phone calls and emails. This was extremely frustrating. I had to ask her several times to stop sending me places unless she checked with me first. If you need to find a place quickly, this might be the service for you, but if you aren't in a rush and just want to start looking at places, I'm not sure this is the service to use.

And the terms and conditions clearly state that you will be called. If you do not want this, do not proceed. Please read the terms and conditions---carefully because ticking that states that you agree to be called.

A 60 year old woman I know called to inquire about "a place for her!" The young man who answered her call asked her for the amount she had to spend for housing each month. When she told him $1200, he said, "Is there someone else who can help?" She said, "Help with what?" He responded "with raising the amount she could spend for her monthly housing." She told him that she didn't, and asked about how much she needed each month to qualify for APFM's help and he told her about $3,000. WOW! It appears that APFM caters to rich mothers only and does nothing for mother's who live on limited incomes. They should add to their commercials that they only assist well-off mothers with $3k or more per month to spend on their housing, so they can avoid getting the hopes up of all mothers with housing needs.

My mom has significant dementia. I have reached out to A Place for Mom a few times as she needs more help with her progression of her dementia. Unless the family member or the family has money they will not help. My mom is not rich, nor are her children, so she does not qualify for help by this company due to not bein $$$$.

Lindy Culbertson was my advisor when I was searching for assisted living and later for Memory Care for my mother. Lindy was extremely informative, knowledgeable and an absolute joy to work with. She understood my parents' needs and was very helpful in finding the most suitable community. Very easy to talk to, Lindy made the whole experience much easier to navigate.

I worked with an advisor from A Place for Mom at the beginning of looking for Memory Care for my mom. They did send my contact info to a bunch of places that were out of my price range, but it wasn't hard to stop the calls. I chose a place they did not refer to, and worked with a company the hospital recommended to me, called Oasis who were genuinely helpful. Because my situation involves a second step, which is now to get Mom to a memory care facility in my state, I chose to use Oasis again. However, I also do my own research. When I had a question about one of the places I found on my own, I landed on the phone with A Place for Mom without evening realizing it (lack of transparency). Despite my protests, they put me on the phone with an "advisor", saying they could answer my question about a particular care home. Instead, they tried to railroad me into working with them, even after I explained I was already working with Oasis. They were extremely pushy, and when it was clear that I wasn't going to get them what they wanted, they pretended to have helped me by sending a list of the places I had told them were on my list already! I am now signing the form Oasis gave me that enables me to remove my name and my mom's name and info from their contact list. I would recommend to avoid A Place for Mom.

We didn't know where to turn to. Our sister, who is a senior, needed a place to go to after hospitalization for mental health issues so, I called A Place for Mom to see if they could help. They had helped us find an assisted living residence for my mother in the past so I was hoping they could help here too.

At first they were not sure if they would be able to meet our needs. But, Alyse Engle was amazing and even with our difficult situation/requests, she was able to find the perfect place for my sister and they were able to accept her immediately. I was so impressed with her compassion and diligence in trying to find some place for us. She really understood how stressed I was about the situation and how I felt like no one was there to help us. She was my angel. I don't know what we would have done without her assistance.

Within 30 seconds of hitting submit I began getting phone calls up to 6 a day. After 2 weeks I got an email promising not to call unless I inquire again HOWEVER I'm now getting phone calls related to the inquiry. I'm just going to do my own research. I advise everyone to do the same.

Lisa Rane with A Place for Mom was so helpful and supportive while researching communities for my mom.

Reason I chose this business:

I have heard of A place for mom from tv commercials. I was online, answered some questions while looking for senior communities for my mom and received a phone call from the agency.

After my sister and mom visited me near the end of December, I wanted to help some way because my sister was so overwhelmed. We knew we had to find some place for mom because she was very unhappy staying with my sister and she couldn't be alone. Mom is very social. I called A Place for Mom and within hours I had a couple of places calling. My sister took Mom to check out one and even though it seemed she didn't want to do it, she did. She loves it although she wants her cat and stuff but she is adjusting. It came right at the right time. Thank you so much. She is safe and they love her. She may not love us right now but we are okay with that.

Filled out a web form on Senior Advisor and barely hit the "submit" button before APFM was calling me. 1st phone call they left a voicemail with a name and number to call back for more information. They proceeded to call me EIGHT more times in less than 24 hrs, up to 9pm at night. The next day the "If you don't want to talk to us, how about we do it by email" emails started. Each one more pushy than the next. "We're concerned we haven't heard from you... blah blah". Finally read the fine print on the emails and realized they are salesmen pushing for their commission. WORST hard sales experience of my life! I've emailed them to lose my phone number and email, cease & desist, and that I would be finding a place to leave a review.

I came across APFM while looking for assisted living facilities. Foolishly, I typed in my telephone number. Big mistake! Within twenty minutes the phone rang. It was an overly friendly rep from APFM. That was in 2015. They are still calling me five or six times a week. I have told them my circumstances had changed; do not call me again. They are still at it----early am or late pm--they do not care. Have reported them to BBB and AARP; told there really wasn't anything they could do. Do not give out your telephone number---they will hound you to death! Terrible, terrible place.

I work on a daily basis with many of the APFM Advisors. They are wonderful to work with and always have the best interest of their families in mind. They are quick to respond and stay in touch with me to see if they need to reach out. Dorothy Walsh is a very collaborative and on a monthly basis, we discuss how to help our families...

If you have begun a process, do NOT use these folks. They get paid by taking the first month or 2 of rent from the facility where your loved one gets placed. YOU pay nothing, but the facility makes nothing for several weeks. I had applied, and got A Place for Mom when I called the 800 number listed for the facility instead of the facility. I had been working with the facility, and once A Place for Mom got involved, the facility backed out and all my efforts were worthless. I had to start over. Trying to get A Place for Mom OUT of my way and off the case was nearly impossible.

I called A Place for Mom not knowing that they were a referral service. I naively gave out all our information early in the call. When I told them that I had already done some looking, they wanted to know where, and I figured out that it was because they couldn't get commissions on those places. I got a bad vibe and told them I wasn't interested. The next week, when following up with one of the places we were considering, they said they were surprised that I was calling because A Place for Mom had sent them an email telling them I had selected another provider! Weird, untrue, and unhelpful. I had only begun my search and was NOT using their services.

I called & spoke to Claudia Keckler, a Senior Living Advisor. She was so helpful. She took down all the important information & within minutes I was getting the answers I was seeking. Their service is so helpful & within a very short time I was being contacted by a number of prominent and highly reviewed facilities that best suited our criteria. It was so nice for them to contact us because we had already been mind boggled by so many computer searches. How nice it was to have facilities already weeded out & be given a short list of quality places in the part of town we requested. Thank you for helping us quickly and caring enough to follow through to make sure we landed in a place that we were happy with. A++ Service & Satisfaction

APFM stands in the middle of prospects and senior living communities. They fraudulently bill for leads that they did not provide. If you refuse to pay they cut off all new leads. They should be ashamed of the "service" they provide.

I agree with the majority of reviews that A Place for Mom is not the altruistic organization that Joan Lunden makes it out to be. I called when I needed a place for my mom (duh!). I received a return call from a APFM rep who is based 3 states away from me and had no idea about senior living in my area. She was able to come up with 3 listings that turned out to have nothing near the requirements I outlined for her. I did better researching, investigating resources, and navigating "the system" on my own. After numerous follow up calls from her, I finally emailed and told her I no longer needed her help. She is still calling me a year later. Had to block her number. Do not recommend.

We were given at least 4 different places to interview for my mother and brother. They instantly fell in love with Country Club Village in Hot Springs. Rose with A Place for Mom kept in touch throughout the transitions and moves and was there all the way making sure we had all the help we needed. Can't say enough good things about A Place for Mom or Country Club Village with all the help each offered and gave to make our family's transition very smooth.
