Highly knowledgeable of this industry. Within 30 minutes after contacting APFM, I had 5 confirmed appointments, complete with contact names, addresses, phone numbers and a description of services available. Highly, highly recommended!

“Poor food maintenance and moral”

Davina L.
12/23/24

Elison of Lake Worth. FL is getting bad, The food is mediocre at best, maintenance is poor.and Sagora Corp.,the owners, does not seem to want to invest a penny to remedy the situation. Moral is at an all time low with staff and residents. I would think twice about placing a loved one here.

They are paid by facilities to steer your loved ones into their facility. Once you give them your email and phone, they hound you constantly. Don't do it...

Why are dads not mentioned in advertising. Where are statistics and benefits for men; isn't "a place for mom" sexist? That advertisement should not allowed to be aired!

I began the process by trying to contact facilities on my own, including A Place For Mom. I didn't realize the full service one call could offer through APFM. Liz made this much easier and even helped to get a call back for me to one place I had already contacted

If you know nothing about this process and know nothing about affordability options and how long term care is within reach, call APFM.

This company never met with me in person
I finally found a lady who had purchased her own franchise to assist personally assisting in finding a assisted living home

She worked days and hours with me
She met with me & asst living facility

Yet because I had spoken to A Place for Mom over the phone a year before they claimed they assisted me in finding this facility

Upsetting totally unprofessional

I was desperate to find low income senior housing for my mother and requested information from APFM. They require a phone number and email to send the info (that was a red flag, but i was desperate) so I put in my number even though I did not want to speak with anyone, just wanted them to email me information. They have called me over 10 times in two day. I decline the call but they just keep calling over and over. Luckily I gave them my Google Voice number and can easily block their calls. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR REAL PHONE NUMBER! They will harass you nonstop.

This place was a real blessing for us. My mother-in-law and her sister had been living in their home for many years. But now that they're almost 90, it got to the point that they really needed to move to a retirement community. But we didn't know one from another and there are too many in our area to figure out. I had spent hours and hours online and then decided to try A Place for Mom. A godsend! I was contacted by their local rep, Bev Stricklin, and told her how much we had and she went to work. She gave us 3 places to start with and then went from there. For each, she gave us the monthly cost and the contact info of the facility's representative. After each visit she called me and discussed each experience so that she could refine her recommendations. After just three visits, we had it whittled down to a favorite and she kept in touch with us throughout the process of finalizing everything. She communicated to the rep with any concerns we had as well. Ultimately we got the perfect spot for the two sisters. They love the place and I must say we would have never found the right place without the help of Bev!

Thank you, thank you! Bev!

The day after I wrote this review (11/2), I received, but did not see right away, an email from my APFM agent. By Friday 11/3 I started to receive calls from facilities that clearly understood what I was looking for based on the criteria I had given APFM. I'm giving 5 stars now just to offset the 1 from before. I won't really know how great it is/was until I find the facility we need, but 1) it would have been really useful for my agent to call to tell me the email had been sent; and 2) if she wasn't going to make the schedule she promised for the email, to let me know she was on it and still going to get it to me.

Super responsive and efficient until I said we had adequate budget for independent living facilities but not for memory care down the road - where we'd probably need Elderly Waiver support. I wanted a list of facilities in the relevant geographic area where the transition from self-financed independent -> to assisted with Elderly Waiver would be accepted. She did not follow up with the promised email and never returned my subsequent calls. Wish I'd have looked at these reviews first so I didn't waste my time. Why do I keep having to learn this lesson over and over?! > :(

No Stars for A Place for Mom!
2 years ago I called to inquire how A Place for Mom operated and was given a couple of suggestions of retirement homes in the area. None were visited. I did call Brookdale Springs Mesa and ask a couple of questions, no tour, that was it.

Two years later, my accountant Rena, told me that her father recently moved to Brookdale Springs Mesa and enjoyed it. Rena told me all about the place and suggested that when my mom was ready, I should take her there. Shortly after tha, t my mother decided to check things out so I took her to tour 4 different places, one being Brookdale Springs Mesa. She liked it and decided to move there. When signing mom up, we mentioned that Rena's dad should get the referral. Jamie at Brookdale said, "Sorry, looks like you talked to A Place for Mom in 2017, they get the referral".
It seems to me that when ever anyone who calls A Place for Mom to inquire about their services, their name gets put out to every retirement home in the area, so if, by chance, that person signs up with any of the retirement homes in the area, A Place for Mom receives the referral commission.
I find this disappointing and a bit crooked. Is there a statue of limitation for their "claim" to the referral? Two years is quite long to lay claim to a referral. Especially in this case where we did not receive any help from A Place For Mom.

NOT AS ADVERTISED! THEY CAPITALIZE ON THE DEMISE OF SENIOR CITIZENS! THIS SITE IS NOT FREE TO USE! Use your common sense and review the facilities in person. Do not schedule a tour just show up and go to the various buildings in the complex. Pay special attention to drug passes and talk to random staff members and residents. Everything is negotiable! Verify staff drug usage and check if their are any convicted fellow on staff or residing in the facility. Make sure they have plans for emergencies and hard-wired phone lines. Try a meal or two and make sure you have access to a nurse 24/7. I would record all conversations during their sales process and READ THE CARE CONTRACT AND AGREEMENT. Add all your needs to the CARE AGREEMENT and make sure they are in compliance with the state and federal laws! Make sure you check on your loved ones often. Questions, contact me, please. Thx

As a home agency, we had worked with APFM for 6 years receiving referrals from them for people who are looking in home care. After this company was purchased by Senior Advisor, it become almost like a distortion. They changed from charging $375 per referral to 9% of revenues monthly for all referrals. As if this was not bad enough, they revamped their contract to state that if you don't meet their monthly quotas, your contract will be terminated. In order to meet their quota, it means you would need a certain number of people they refer to sign up for home care services within a certain time frame. This was very disheartening being that our home care agency works with families at their pace and our goal is to help families without adding any pressure to their decision making. We simply care and want to help families. Well, after 6 years of being in a contract with APFM, they followed through with their new quota terms and terminated our home care contract with them because we didn't close on the deals fast enough. Our home care agency knew we were at risk of losing the contract with APFM, but was willing to take that risk to give families their needed time to make decisions. I wish that APFM would go back to the way they used to run their business where home care agencies were not pressured to meet a quota, but rather could focus more on catering to families needs. APFM advertises that they want to help families, but the truth is all they care about is making money.

A Place for Mom helped guide us to the best care options for my mother-in-law. They saved us lots of time wandering aimlessly in the wilderness when it came time to find a memory care/assisted living facility for her. We interviewed and visited the five sites that were recommended and settled on what seems to be a great fit. They were conscientious and helpful throughout the process, following up frequently to make sure we were making progress.

Some reviews seem to mistakenly confuse the finding process with the care facility. And of course they have a network of facilities. That's what a networking agency does. In fact, APFM was very interested in feedback regarding our experience with the facilities. We did not receive unsolicited calls from anyone not on our list and the calls we did receive were helpful, full of good advice, and respectful of our time. Exactly what we needed when we needed it. The recommended facilities also followed up diligently, something that some might consider intrusive but, again, we needed them to be proactive while our world was so chaotic and demanding.

All in all, while it may not be the best resource for everyone, it is a well-intentioned organization that provided a good experience for us and that is something we desperately needed during a time when so many things were difficult and challenging. MIL is now in a superb facility, stress is decreasing, and we feel confident things are going to be better from here out.

My adviser Amanda was wonderful. She was a counselor in every sense of the word. I was so distressed when I called. I had been trying to locate assisted living facilities on my own. I felt I had limited options for meeting my father's financial needs. Everywhere I looked was beyond my financial means. In minutes, Amanda gave me so many options, I never considered. I'd forgotten my father was a veteran, that he had an additional life insurance policy, that his pension allowed for a hardship benefit. Amanda scheduled all my tours for me, and discussed what things I might want to ask questions about. Amanda followed up with me, and gave me encouragement, when I procrastinated. When I was too busy starting a new job and attending to my dad in the hospital, Amanda called the assisted living facility I'd chosen, to let them know to hold a unit for us. And after all the paperwork was signed, Amanda called to congratulate us. She was wonderful and this service was invaluable. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you!

The deceptive practices employed by APFM are absurd, and definitely not helpful when someone is seeking professional help in deciding on the best senior housing option. How can a "senior advisor" that lives in another state and has never visited any of the 12 "best option facilities" in my city that she emailed me, have any credibility or knowledge about the facilities? Answer… SHE CAN'T! Once you click on to unlock different places, the phone calls from the 12+ facilities they contract with to get paid immediately start, and they don't stop! All the rep from APFM cares about is getting paid. 10 of the 12 facilities she sent didn't even provide the care I was looking for! Thes sites; APFM, senioradvisor.com, caring.com, et al, need to be avoided at all costs. It's hard enough making this decision, but they make it even harder! I wish I would've known about a local, personalized advisor in my area before I clicked on their website. Oh, and another thing… once you click with them, they own the rights to your loved one's information, and can collect referral fees FOR LIFE! Absolutely atrocious business practices!

Tip for consumers:
Stay away!!!
