I have had a very positive experience with orders from Athleta. The items are always as described and of good quality. Customer service personnel are always pleasant, and accommodating. Just because one thing might go wrong with an order does not mean the company is dishonest and insensitive toward customer's needs. After all, nothing ever runs 100% all the time. So I am giving a review that is fair. And well deserved, in my opinion. And hope others will be fair as well, about the merchandise and overall shopping experience with Athleta.
I have been shopping at Athleta for years. They always had an excellent return policy, even if a garment got damaged. No longer. You get 30 days to return or exchange an item, even for store credit. If you buy on line and want to exchange in the store, the item has to be returned and then purchase what you want. So if you got in on sale on line and you need a different size, you lose the sale price. I will never shop here again. They have lost a good customer.
I was so excited to receive my first purchase after seeing amazing products via Athleta's marketing campaign on Facebook. What I received was vastly different and disappointing. I ordered bathing suit bottoms and two bathing suit tops. One doubled as a sports shirt.
The bathing suit bottoms had two hairs stuck to a sticker in the crotch of the bathing suit. One of the tops had what looked like deodorant all over the armpit and cup area. The third top was completely wrinkled up twisted. All the items looked like they were thrown into a bag. This is a huge disconnect with management/leadership.
During Athleta's Labor Day sale I spent a lot of time on their site, placed an order, and was thrilled with the discount. Over a week of waiting, I finally received an email saying my order was cancelled. I called to ask why - and was told that PayPal had rejected payment. This didn't make sense to me (I had an approval code from PayPal) so I verified with PayPal that they had accepted the order a d Athlete had placed the refund. Obviously, Athlete cancelled my order for other reason, but was not honest with me. I wanted to reorder with Athleta but was told all of my items were sold out. I am not happy. They offered a 25% coupon and never sent it. I called back and now they are offering me only 20%...
I bought some pants from Athleta and tried to return them three days after the "shipped by" date had passed (I didn't actually receive them until several days after that date). It turns out that Athleta will not take anything back if it is even one day over their deadline. I tried calling their customer service line and got the same response. I have never dealt with a retailer that has been this rigid. They suggested I send the clothes to a used clothing outfit and try for a gift card. But of course I don't want a gift card. I want my money back and I never want to shop at Athleta again. Honestly, their clothes are just OK, and their policies are ridiculous.
Not only did it take nearly a month for it to arrive, alongside that it took 2 weeks for someone to even respond when I'm asking for follow up.
But when it finally does arrive its scribbled all over?! How is this acceptable?!
Literally got leggings with marker all over them! ₩
My experience other than buying these item has been the absolute worst amongst any companies I've ordered through before.

Ordered two two-piece bathing suits. One suit came but with only one of the tops. Didn't get the other bottom. Had to email them to find out where it was. Turns out they don't have it. Now I have a top with no bottom. I have to take the time out and return it. But they will give me 20% off my next purchase? Ah... no thanks. Never ordering from here again.
I ordered some dresses on a Tuesday night. I paid an extra $25 to receive it on Thursday. Athleta did not send dresses overnight as it said it would. They used some company called LaserShip delivery service, not FedEx or UPS. I didn't get the dresses till Saturday after I left on my trip. They are totally unreliable.
I am beyond disappointed in the customer service I have received from Athleta. I made the mistake of sending a pair of leggings in the mail to be returned that I had purchased in the store. I found out you cannot return items through the mail that you purchased in the store (which is completely stupid). Athleta DID NOT credit my card for the return nor send the item back to me. This company literally stole $100 from me. I have called 3x and spent approximately 1.5 hours on the phone with customer service, which provided absolutely no help. I will never shop at Athleta, Gap or Banana Republic again! Don't waste your hard earned money on these companies, as they don't give a sh*+ about customer service!
For years, there were only for smaller ladies and now all of a sudden they want to be inclusive? The brand does not listen to their customers. If you go into any of their NY stores, hordes of customers have asked for them to bring back their low rise/ low waisted leggings that would always sell out and the store managers confirm this fact but the powers that be, just follow their own tune and watch these customers go to No Bull and others. If you want great low rise leggings you have good choices since Athleta feels those customers do not matter any longer! Other companies are seeing the need except fir Athleta who was the leader in great tights until the change

Do not order a gift card from Athleta. I ordered a hefty one as a gift for my daughter-in-law. The confirmation for it arrived and I assumed the card was on its way. Three weeks later (3 weeks!) I learned that indeed no card had been sent and when I called I was given 4 explanations, none of which made sense. I was NEVER notified that the card was not sent, so their records showed. A very weak apology was all I was offered. That company is off my list forever.
After I received an email like my visa card "looks like fraud to them" which is totally nonsense; I had to call them to verify my info and they switch me from one agent to another to verify my info again. Why? It was an annoying experience with an unprofessional customer team. I decided not to continue with this order and spend my $300 with Spanx. Much better experience! Goodbye atleta, never again!
I've tried repeatedly to use my rewards in store and online and the experience is AWFUL! The customer service response from anyone has been non-existent. I had one employee in Banana Republic go above and beyond but the party line I normally get in store at Athleta is "sorry..."
My brother sent me a $250 gift card. I do not have a local store. I needed to return 2 tops for a smaller size. Now remember... a gift card means they already have the cash... I was told I needed to send it back, wait 15 days to process, then WAIT for a new gift card to be issued and snail mailed back to me. Of course the tops are now out of stock. This is piracy. I should have been able to do an exchange at time of return like every other high end online store. NEVER give a gift card from this outfit.
This is the most ridiculous experience I ever had with Athleta. Not for the first time, I received an item that was dirty (oily stain on Hoodie). I returned it right away and now over 2 month later I am still fighting to get a refund. At first I was told 10 business days after I sent it; then it was 10 business days after they received it; now it's well over the given timeframe and I am supposed to again waiting 24-76 hours until I hear from them (for the second time they were supposedly starting an "investigation" into this). Customer service used to be more helpful and were able to issue a refund right away. When did this change that their customer service people seem to only be able to copy/paste standard replies and are not able to help one bit with any issues?
I ordered a set of masks and never received them. They canceled my order and never told me. I found out when I checked the tracking number. First and last time ordering. I called the number the lady on the phone was polite but did not know what I was talking about. She offered to help me reorder with 3-5 business days when the web site says back order til 8/23... needless to say I ordered from under armor. I won't recommend athleta to anyone!
Ordered online for curbside pickup. Received an email stating items were ready for pick up. Arrived at 4:30 pm to fetch order only to find that the store was closed. Further investigation online revealed that curbside pick up hours were from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. I don't understand why my "ready for pick up"" email did not state the pick up hours. Unfortunately, I was on my way to my niece's drive-by birthday party, and I arrived without a gift. When I finally arrived home, I attempted to contact Athleta - phone and chat were closed, leaving mail a letter' as my only means left of communication, which is why I am writing a review instead of mailing a letter - really, who mails a letter?
I just purchased a pair of sweatpants and a jersey sweater. To Athleta's credit, the material was super soft and comfy, BUT that's were the positivity ends... I ordered a size S per Athleta's guidelines and both garments were huge on me! The waist description was "mid-rise"... now folks, I have a long torso, but these lounge pants are ridiculous! The waist came completely over my stomach and up under my ribs! (Yes, that is my bra just above the waist of these pants!) Both of these garments are going back. SO disappointed. Too bad the descriptions weren't accurate. Enough of the "high waist" already!

Spent 29 minutes on the phone for an incorrect charge on my account and was then disconnected after 2 transfers. This is the second mistake I had with athleta account. The service person hung up and actually seemed like she didn't know how to resolve my issue. Terrible service. I am now an Alo and Lululemon customer.
Athleta is unbeatable: their products and customer service is unparalleled. I buy stuff and see how it works. If it doesn't, I take it back for free--and no questions asked. For workout gear and cute casual lounging about wear, this is my go to shop!
Bought a sports bra. It wasn't even packaged with a shipping invoice. It wasn't packaged at all. Probably a previous return. This bra is cheaply made with fabric that sticks to your clothes so you can't wear it under anything. It is for little girls trying out big girl stuff. Not for grown up women needing a real bra with real support. You can see the outline of the bra under anything. The fabric bunches up in the middle. Just the fact that it wasn't packaged turned me off. First time with Athleta and the last. Would add proof of purchase but they didn't send a shipping invoice.
Tip for consumers:
It would have been helpful to know this bra is not for anyone larger than a B cup. They offer all sizes even though the design doesn’t allow for the support needed for a grown up. You don’t find that out until you buy it and put it on.

I bought the Trekkie North Jogger to wear on a trip to Kentucky's Bourbon Trail. I liked the color, and the fit was close enough. I am very hard to fit because I am 5'1, weigh 113, and have straight hips, but I don't have the small waist of my youth. Anyway, these pants stretched out after a couple of hours, and they wrinkled. I don't know why these pants get such good reviews.
I bought several t-shirts and within a few weeks all of them had little holes in the front. I brought them back to the store with my receipt but they wouldn't accept the return because I'd cut out the little tags inside (they were itchy). And the salesperson acted like a total jerk about it, like I was trying to return stolen goods even though I had the receipt. Never buying from them again.
No thanks and no way, to further sale. Took forever to reach my home mail. Returns? Fifteenth plus. I should get interest. Oh, worse, brand redid loyalty program. I lost 560 dollars with their rebrand and answer? Despite their assurance my points would travel over, did not. Called CS. Personnel said I would have a supervisor to return my call. Yup. Guessed it. No call back.
They stole money from me. Done. Absolutely the worse design and colors. Once again, who wears nor wants this unsatisfactory line that is unattractive plus stealing from customers? Not me.
I recently placed an order in December. I waited for the item for 2 months on backorder. When I went to check if it had shipped the order said cancelled. I called and they said my card was declined and they transferred me to synchrony. Synchrony Visa Athleta card company said that wasn't true. No charges were attempted or declined and they are sorry I was told that, my card is in excellent status. Don't waste your time. Apparently if they can't fulfill your order, they just make something up! I think I'll spend my money at an honest company with some integrity.

Bottom line - they only care about money and not customer satisfaction. They screwed up my order and refused to fix it. They have a color labeled on their site which is a light blue color, they sent me a navy instead. I brought it to their attention and included pictures of the colors they have listed and the color they sent me. They asked me to call them (on Superbowl Sunday). I have to say one of my biggest pet peves is when a company can fix something via email and ask that you call. Why? So you can wait on hold forever and have someone verbally give you the run around. They sent me another tank again, the wrong color came again. Several emails later and they still refuse to send me the correct color. I am done with Athleta and their horrible customer service. They also have a brand new person answering your emails, these people do not read your previous emails so you have to explain each and every time the same story. Lord help me they are the WORST!
I ordered a sports bra and chose the shipping option for 5-7 days. When the item finally shipped, I received an email saying that the item would arrive well past the estimated time. Of course I will have already needed the item by that time! Needs to have accurate shipping information.
