I posted my job with its particular needs and within hours, I received two qualified candidates. This is after being told by higher ups that no one in the area could accommodate the time frame and jobs. Also very impressed with follow-up! Next time we have work to be done, I'm contacting BuildZoom first!
A lady posted a false review on their website and they do not verify or require any evidence! They will not remove after asking many times and even providing evidence myself of the false claim! Now I have to pay for an attorney to have review removed because it is tied to a Google search with my name! Worthless company if you ask me!

Hi Leigh, we requested more information and your contact so we could take a look at your request. Will you email customerrelations@buildzoom.com so we can assist? Thanks!
We signed a contact with BuildZoom over a year ago with the promise they could find a builder at $217 per square foot but the closest they got was $325 to $500 per square foot. When we cancel the contract the billed our credit card additional $800. So we spend $2400 to talk with 3 builders to learn we can't build our cabin.

Hi Andrew,
We're sorry to hear that this has been your experience with BuildZoom.
Upon reviewing our calls and communications with you, it was definitively clear that there was never a promise of premium achieving your goal budget. In the initial call, our rep let you know a range of costs that the cost of the build could be in. When our reps speak with you about potential costs, we use our internal cost estimating tool, which considers multiple factors such as project type and budget to come up with a rough estimate on what cost could look like for any given project. BuildZoom does not host a suite of contractors that provide us the cost to build. None of the contractors are associated with BuildZoom, and we do not have any leverage in pricing for your project, as well as time frame for the project. The cost to build is heavily reliant on type of materials, land (if it is sloped vs flat), proximity to job site, and other criteria that need to be added into the total cost equation.
During our sourcing for you, we reached out to 41 contractors in the surrounding area to get preliminary estimates before moving forward with the project to ensure there was transparency with the desired scope and budget. From the ones who responded, a couple said the project was too far or out of budget, and 2 opted-in as interested. All in all, throughout the entire time we worked with you, we were transparent to you with the information we had on hand, and we continued to update you throughout the journey once our team had done research into your project specifications at greater length. BuildZoom's Premium service is helpful for property owners because it can help save money throughout the course of a project, mainly in the respect of reducing the change orders that you would typically face if you continued to go with a contractor with a low budget (This is typical from our professional experience). The value you received from your premium service was that you did find that the project is unfeasible (which is not a bad thing), and saved you the time to figure this out by other means and potentially spending much more than the $2400.
Additionally, we billed you only for what was in line with your Premium contract. The contract clearly states that you will be billed for all incomplete work. As a good faith measure and understanding that you wished to cancel your project, we provided you a 50% refund on your second invoice.
I hope that this clarifies your reservations about the Premium service.

Thank you for your fantastic review! We're thrilled to hear that you received qualified candidates quickly and that our follow-up impressed you. We're glad we could meet your needs when others couldn't. We look forward to assisting you with your future projects!
We hired a contractor off Buildzoom mainly due to their high score. That contractor was hit & miss about showing up, did work they were not licensed or permitted to do which resulted in extensive repairs on our behalf to fix shoddy work & bring our remodel up to code. The company received multiple L&I citations but denied any wrongdoing. I subsequently left a negative review on Buildzoom for the company & they took it down, they state that "customer feedback" is an important component of their rating criteria but they must be referring to positive feedback. I believe it is common practice to remove negative reviews which doesn't reflect all customers experiences but it benefits both Buildzoom & the contractor as the absence of negative reviews hides issues that real customers report & doesn't lower the company's rating: win-win for both Buildzoom & the company. If they are removing negative reviews it is also likely that many of the glowing reviews are fake. Buildzoom is good about responding to customer complaints that appear on different sites but they are quick to reject any responsibility for issues & they are all smoke & mirrors. Nearly 100 complaints on BBB cannot be all wrong. Totally shady company!
Hi Laura,
We're sorry that this was your experience with a contractor that you found on BuildZoom. We hold the contractors who choose to be on BuildZoom highly accountable to perform great work. It's good to hear that you've taken the time to leave a review for this contractor.
BuildZoom does not suppress reviews. Just like any other platform that hosts reviews, there are specific and mandatory checks that are put in place as safeguards against bots spamming. Our review verification team reviews each review in its entirety to ensure that the review meets our eligibility requirements for posting. If one of the requirements are not met, we will not approve the review for safety measure.
One of BuildZoom's main goals is to find the best contractor for the job. Leaving negative reviews about a contractor helps other Property Owners learn more about the contractor. Your experience and review is important for us to post on the contractor's BuildZoom page to inform other Property Owner's of previous project complications. Additionally, if a contractor gets a lot of bad feedback or we learn of foul play, we can suspend or completely remove a contractor from our website. Our mission is to help Property Owners navigate the pre-construction process, which starts with finding and learning about local Pros for their job. An important part of that journey is seeing customer testimonials about that Pro which will help them make the best decision for their project. Additionally, for Pros who are encouraging clients to leave reviews or testimonials, getting good reviews helps boost their business. On the flip side, if clients have poor experiences, they also have the opportunity to share that.
All in all, as a platform that hosts reviews, we do not act any differently from other review platforms, such as Trustpilot or Sitejabber. As an active contractor who cares about their reputation on BuildZoom, we see that they disputed the review, in which case we take it offline until our investigation process is complete. I can assure you that it is not deleted. You can expect to receive some email shortly regarding the dispute.
The job was very well completed. The staff were very respectful and clean and the job was even nicer than expected
James kept me up to speed with every step of the project and I could not have had a nicer experience with Vinny Home Improvement.
I will use Vinny Home Improvements for future projects
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear that you were pleased with the quality of our work and the professionalism of our staff. It's great to know that James kept you informed throughout the project and that your experience with Vinny Home Improvement exceeded your expectations. We look forward to working with you on future projects!
BuildZoom was incredibly helpful in connecting us to the right people for our project. We've made life long friends thru this platform and we're very thankful.
Thank you for the amazing review. We appreciate your business, Peter!
We had a small emergency with our small (6 station) lawn sprinkler system. It was the last of the stations to go on the previous evening, and when we awoke, realized Station 6 had never Shut OFF~!~! We ended up having to shut off the main water valve in order to get the water to stop flowing. As it turns out, the sprinkler master valve had deteriorated and needed replacing. We called this business, and within an hour had a call back with over the phone diagnosis, and a scheduled repair of the next morning. They arrived as scheduled, provided the necessary repairs and further diagnosis (a 2nd valve needed attention as well), and also suggested a few items to look at for future reference. The 24 hour turn around was very much appreciated, and the professional level of expertise and customer service was exemplary. Great communication, and they "walked the walk", following through with services matching their initial suggested repairs. Highly recommended.
Thank you for your detailed and wonderful review! We're glad we could quickly respond to your sprinkler emergency and provide a timely and professional repair. It's great to hear that our communication and service met your expectations. Your recommendation means a lot to us!
I found BuildZoom to be easy to use and helpful in leaving a review for a couple businesses that use this site. It is important to share positive and negative experiences, but we so often only hear negative. I believe in sharing positive experiences and hope others will follow. Thank you for making BuildZoom so easy to use.
Thank you for your fantastic review! We're delighted to hear that you found BuildZoom easy to use and helpful for leaving reviews. Sharing positive experiences is so important, and we appreciate your encouragement for others to do the same. Thank you for your support!

Thank you for the awesome review. We appreciate the kind words, Rudy-Lin!
I made a call to what I thought was a flooring contractor. He told me that he would give my info to a person that does flooring. I waited a few days, no call, so I made calls and let the contract. I'm sorry it went that way. Cause a couple days later I started getting calls from several fine contractors. I didn't know "BuildZoom" exsisted till the responses started coming in.
Hey David! It looks like you may have submitted your inquiry on our BuildZoom website - it can sometimes take 24-48 hours for contractors to get your request and start reaching out to you. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the initial delay in communication. We're glad to hear that you eventually connected with several fine contractors through BuildZoom. Your feedback is valuable, and we will work on improving our processes to ensure timely responses in the future. If you have any further concerns or need assistance with future projects, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Royal Construction was a pleasure to work with. The project manager Yotam went above and beyond to make sure that the project was done in a timely manner and that there were no issues. The property went from having the worst lawn on the block to the best looking lawn on the block. Highly recommend using them, make sure to ask for Yotam.
Thank you for your review! We're glad to hear that Royal Construction was a pleasure to work with and that Yotam provided a fantastic experience.
I'm writing to recommend GR Brothers Construction who buried a coaxial cable for our internet and TV service. My wife and I are delighted with their work. The team was efficient, hard working, courteous, and very respectful of our property. They swiftly completed their task without disturbing the garden pavers or the Dahlias. GR Brothers did a thorough job of restoring the areas in which they worked. We are delighted with GR Construction!

Very easy way to build your own website with Build Zoom!
Happy to hear you had a good experience building your page with BuildZoom, Ronald! We enjoy working with you.
I recently used BuildZoom to leave a review of work performed by a roofing/gutter contractor I have used several times over the past two years. I found the site easy to navigate and left the review in the hope that people in need of roof and other contracting services would see it and consider using Hoffman Contracting for their project(s).
Thank you for your review! We're glad you found BuildZoom easy to use and that you were able to share your positive experience with Hoffman Contracting. Your feedback helps others find reliable contractors for their projects.
BuildZoom was very helpful. Quick and easy. They provided us with several contractors to call and we went through with the project because of them. Shape Up Renovation did a fantastic job.
Thank you for your review! We're glad BuildZoom was helpful and made the process quick and easy. It's great to hear that Shape Up Renovation did a fantastic job on your project!
I can't say enough about how great this company has been to work with from the local salesman Julian, the install crew to my final turn it on and explain how to monitor my solar panels man Alex. Every step of the way they kept me informed with what was happening and were able to get the system installed before the end of 2023 so I can get my tax credit I was needing.
The contractor took our money and then abandoned the project. It has taken us 8 months to save the money to finish said job. They demolished our outside wall to kitchen for addition in November then abandoned the job pretty much after mid December. We have had to live with no kitchen, huge electric bills, and exposure to outdoor elements ( extreme cold, heat, bees and wasps) our granddaughter is allergic to these insects and the contractor was aware. They also left a large tunnel under home, we were turned into the city for code violations. My husband and his brother had to fill hole, it was very difficult and hard on them. If this is a premium contractor on your list, I would be horrified to think how bad a non premium contractor is. I would not even give 1 star if that was possible. The images are the state our house was in when they abandoned the job.
Hi Barbara,
We're sorry to hear that this was your experience with a contractor you found on BuildZoom.
BuildZoom works directly with state licensing boards and building departments to create a list of contractors in the the U.S. to help property owners find local contractors.
The contractors in our database are not employed by BuildZoom, nor does BuildZoom have its own network. We evaluate contractors based on a lot of different criteria to determine if the contractor is the best fit for your project and how reliable they are. Things such as (but not limited to) the number of permits they’ve filed in their lifetime (and in the last 12 months), the number of jobs they’ve completed, the types of jobs they completed, the reviews they receive on different review platforms, the number of years they’ve been in business, their bid-to-hire rate, their licenses, and how responsive & engaged they are with both their clients and BuildZoom. All of these factors, and more, go into their BuildZoom score that ranks them among other contractors in their local area.
If and when we discover that a contractor is conducting themselves in a manner that’s bad, we do suspend or ban them from our website. While their profile remains online, we assure you that they are blocked from receiving additional leads from us. As far as your situation, here are some actions you can take:
File a formal complaint to your State Attorney General
Reach out to your State.gov's Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, where their license is listed and open up a complaint - request for the contractor to be investigated
Simultaneously, ask for their contractor's bond information (if you don't have it already) to file a formal claim against their bond, which would compensate you for misperformance
Review the requirements for your State’s Recovery Fund (if they have one)
If you would like, leave a review on their BuildZoom profile so that others are aware of your experience (we've come to learn that some regulators will visit our site during their own research)
Again, we are very sorry that you encountered this situation and we hope you’re able to figure something out. If you need help researching any of the above options in your state, reach out to us at customersupport@buildzoom.com.
I subscribed to buildzoom's "Premium" membership. It sounded good; I get a building professional to find me appropriate contractors and help me to review their proposals and estimates. Out of the gate, buildzoom learned a lot about my project, and set about finding contractors.
In this market, contractors don't really need to be responsive, so you have to keep pestering them to get an estimate. I was hoping that buildzoom would help me with that. Instead, I just had one more agent I had to pester - buildzoom themselves! Over the course of two months, buildzoom managed to get zero estimates, even though four different contractors came to review the project. It isn't a surprise; buildzoom never followed up with the contractors, even after I pestered them. The "Premium membership" cost me over $1000, which I consider to be money lost to a scam. They did some posing and posturing as if they were doing work, but they did no work and delivered nothing. Don't waste your time and money.
Tip for consumers:
Don't use it; they take your money and deliver nothing.

Hi Dean, I'm sorry to hear you had a poor experience with our Premium Service. If you would like to email us at customersupport@buildzoom.com with your full name and the email address associated with your account, I'd be happy to get you in contact with the appropriate manager to discuss the situation.
After being promised three contractor quotes by BuildZoom, I never received any. Only one contractor, Neal the Builder and Family LLC, was provided by BuildZoom. Without an official quote or a contract, the builder asked for $18,000 to be put on a credit card upfront for him to accomplish clearing and excavation. Then when I suggested a local excavator at a much cheaper price we sent me a text message that he is quitting the project. Glad I found this out early instead of in the middle of the project.
Not surprisingly, BuildZoom has not followed up with me and it's been nearly a month. Therefore, complete failure on their part. Contractors are hard to find but I would steer clear of BuildZoom. Prefer zero stars and finding a contractor on my own.
Tip for consumers:
Stay away.

Hi Frank,
I am sorry that this has been your experience.
BuildZoom partners with over 2000 building departments and contractor license boards across the United States to maintain a database of almost 4 million contractors. Similarly, we receive permit data from city or county building departments. We pull this permit data every day to ensure we have the most updated information for all of our contractors. Contractors on buildzoom.com are not employees nor affiliates of BuildZoom. Contractors on our website do not pay us a subscription to be a part of our marketplace, they only pay us a referral fee for jobs that they win.
I would like to try and clarify that we can promise to source at least three contractors for each job. The number of quotes are more dependent on the availabilities for different contractors in your area to have bandwidth to take on another project. In general, the Project Consultants at BuildZoom source contractors in the project area based on availability, budget, and in some cases, specialty licenses. After looking into your case, it seems like your Project Consultant reached out to 15 different contractors in your area. However, we were able to get in touch with one contractor who was a great fit for your job, with over 30+ years of experience and had worked and completed multiple successful projects beforehand with BuildZoom.
After the contractor left the job, we gathered the bid that the contractor provided for your project, closed your case, and did not follow up due to those reasons.
I hope this helps clarify your concerns.
I left a review, but i was told they would send me a email to verify before my review was shared. I have not gotten an email and I dont see my review. The questions on the review were great and on target, I just dont think review is up and in the end if feels like a waste of time. Tried doing something nice since the company asked me to leave a review good or bad, just figured it would be a little less tedious.
* BuildZoom attempted to help this customer through the Sitejabber Resolution Center, but the customer did not respond
Hi Meredith,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for this feedback. On behalf of the company, I do apologize for the lack of communication.
We have a review moderation team to ensure that all of the reviews are truthful and come from real people. The review process can definitely feel tedious solely due to the nature and rigor of our moderation team. However, this sort of nature is necessary as we want to ensure that our customers get the best experience possible while looking for a contractor (mainly because some property owners hire contractors using our profiles and we want to clearly separate the good from the bad)!
If you'd like me to, I can definitely look into where your review is currently and provide you with an update. Please leave your email associated with your project and I can get back to you shortly with further understanding of where your review stands.
**My experience getting my house remodeled with MNJ contracting was excellent as a homeowner. The owner Mr. Juan made sure that every detail work I wanted was done. I made a lot of changes to the drawings which required different permits and building coding but he was patient enough to make sure I get the work order and got his crew to get the job right and do the right thing. It was not an easy project but MNJ has managed to accommodate my needs and has put up with the list of my demands. I know I can be pretty hard because of my experiences with other Construction companies and having everyone on the $#*! list in Long Island. MNJ proved me wrong.

Someone followed up 3 to 4 time a a week. If not by phone it through email. At some point it felt like they thought I was lying about the constant back and forth with the insurance. Nevertheless, I I did not use the company that I chose through them because the claim was denied by the insurance company.
BuildZoom recommended a contractor to me and I chose his company New Day Construction Company LLC. The owner Carlos Zumara came out to my house and out of about 8 contractors that I interviewed I chose New Day Construction. From the start everything seemed to go well but then Carlos started bringing on his family members who were not experienced enough to do construction in my opinion at all. His brother-in-Law put up tile in my kitchen that didn't line up in the corners that is highly noticeable with one wall tiles looking higher then the other wall where they meet in the corners. Also the tiles are waving in and out on the walls as you look down. Then they did a vaulted ceiling project in the living and dining room where if you look up at the south end of the ceiling they constructed it's narrow on one end but as your eyes follow the wall down the room the ceiling starts to come out wider as you look down! Just unsightly waving. Carlos did a job in my bathroom also he went in and broke my whale tale fin pedestal to my pedestal sink which I can't find a replacement to. Lastly my husband had him build for my birthday in October a She Shed loft bed overlooking the living room and he charged him a nice price that included carpeting that I never got nor did he finish the work on the she shed! He's just made what was supposed to be a total home remodel to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and my birthday present a huge nightmare not to mention that he got started in June of 2022 and here it is November 2022 and he's still not done used up all the up front moneys that contract called for minus the last $4,000 that I owe him cause he's not supposed to get till the job is done but he's been constantly begging for but won't get because I feel that he has abandoned the job now that he has another job working elsewhere. BuildZoom let me down epically!
Hi Justin, thank you for your feedback. We built our platform to maintain a transparent contractor database where anyone can leave reviews. We noticed you’ve responded to the review in question, which is the right approach. To clarify, contractors are not required to pay to maintain a profile or manage reviews, and at no point have you been asked to pay for our services. We do not charge for posting or removing reviews. We are sorry to hear that you disagree with the review left by the property owner, however, it’s not BuildZoom’s judgement to understand what did or did not happen from a project back in 2014.
